  1. It seems like Boyle is really similar to Gilmore: good blocker, needs to develop as a pass-catcher.

I always thought 1 blocking TE was enough. Now we have 2 good blockers and 1 decent blocker in Gilmore, Boyle, and Williams. Maybe they're planning on doing some different things in the redzone, like playing a lot of TEs every snap, since you not only have to defend the run but also prepare for the pass /w some big TEs. Could be interesting, especially if Gilmore and Boyle develop as pass-catchers.

I believe it was Mayock who put it best. We basically have one receiving TE (Williams), one blocking TE (Boyles), and one middle of the road guy (Gillmore). That sounds fine to me.

  2. It would be nice to get a win against Cincinnati. They are not an easy out for us and pretty much have their way of late. We haven't been able to stop them at crunch time on defense and our offense performs sluggishly.

Have to change that. Our secondary will have to be the difference this year as the bengals do a good job of keeping dalton clean, getting the ball out quickly and minimizing our pressures by doing so.

Well last year we had both games but choked them away. Even so, I enjoy the fact that they do sort of have our number and yet we get further in the postseason than them every year.

  3. I think the story will be similar to recent years. We will be good but not great in the regular season while we build up steam and the offense gels with so many new pieces and a new coordinator. But we'll be at our best when it matters most playing deep into January.

  4. For people saying that Waller will basically be redshirted or not to expect much from him this year, the biggest thing we have to remember is who the coaching staff is. Yes in years past we've clearly drafted guys like this before, but our HC and or OCs at the time weren't the type to give guys like this a shot.

But think about Harbs history and what we know about Tresman's love for taking deep shots with big WRs. Now none of these guys have developed into studs recently, but just think about what the opinion of Marlon Brown was this time 2 years ago. Who was Kamar Aiken? Both Jeremy Butler and Aaron Mellette were giving great shots to make the active roster once they proved talented enough during camp. No again none of these guys are household names outside of Baltimore or even in Baltimore in most cases, but the point is they were even a shot to show and prove.

So looking at Waller, i'm not saying he's gonna come in and be a ROY guy or even and decent contributor to the offense this season, but if he shows promise in camp, i'm willing to bet Harbs and Tresman will be looking to work him into any type of offensive rotation they can. Even if it's only to take 1 or 2 play action shots down field per game.

I agree. I think he will have a role because of Trestman. I also think any comparrison to other late round big guys we've drafted before like Tommy Streeter or Clarence Moore isn't fair. Waller had good production considering he played in a triple option offense plus he should be a good run blocker. That makes him an ideal red zone candidate not just for catching TD's but blocking as well.

  5. I enjoyed their GM Kevin Colber emphaticallly claiming Golshon was their target all along. So defensive tsk tsk...

I enjoyed that too. My question to him would have been "Then why did you take nearly all your allotted time to turn in the pick?" We know the Steelers rarely make trades so it is highly unlikely they were looking to trade down and still get their guy.

  6. Steelers take Bud Dupree from us,  we take Maxx Williams from them!

Not only that but it seems the Steelers may have panicked when we took Maxx and reached for a need.

This is a quote from the Pittsburg Post Gazette

Golson, the little cornerback, seemed surprised to be taken in the second round. “I had no idea they would pull the trigger on me this early.”

  7. Thought about this overnight, both the pros and cons. I keep coming back to the thought that if he is basically Torrey II, then I'll take that. We did pretty well most of the time with Torrey and, if Perriman is already at that level, his ceiling must be much higher. His willingness to fight for the ball already sets him ahead.

That's what I've been saying. I wasn't thrilled with the pick because of the drops but Perriman is at LEAST another Torrey but the potential is a legit #1. Michael Irvin compared him to Andre Johnson for crying out loud.

Some fans may not like it from a value perspective because we got Torrey a full round later than Perriman but think of where our offense would have been without Torrey these last 4 years. We need a deep threat for this offense to be at its best.

  8. I had my reservations about him before the draft. I can't stand drops. Having said that, he was around the 14th or 15th rated player on both Mayock and Kiper's boards and I saw an interview with Harbaugh with WBAL saying he was 14th or 15th on their board. Thats value even if it wasn't a need also.

I see Perriman being another Torrey Smith at worst but with the potential to be even better. It's hard not to like it when you think of it that way.

Here is the video of Harbaugh's interview. If our scouts had him rated this high than what's not to like? We either trust in them or we don't.

  9. Maybe with the salary cap going up so much in the past couple years we could afford both but I doubt it. Paying both guards top dollar and still being able to afford to pay other key positions is just not feasible especially when you have a franchise QB to pay. If you want an example just look at the Saints.

I'm sure the Ravens will try to keep both but at at the end of the day another team will overpay KO and he will be the next Raven to leave. That became clear to me last year watching how well Urshel played as a rookie. If the 80/20 rule applied to a player the caliber or Ngata than it will apply to KO as well. KO at around $7 million or Urshel at about $500K. The talent disparity is not THAT huge between them. Also, the $7 million figure might be low. Mike Iupati got $8 from the Cardinals this off season.

  10. 1 yr 3 mil

I wonder if there's an option for next year that helps spread the cap hit, causing Aaron Wilson to report the 2-yr deal.

I hope so. A $3 mil cap hit for someone that history suggests will never see a single meaningful snap seems a bit high especially considering the tough pill we had to swallow by trading away Ngata to get this valuable cap space.

  11. @RavensInsider: Kendrick Lewis three-year Ravens deal, $5.4 million, $1.4M bonus, salaries $800,000, $1.4 million, $1.8 million

there is Lewis's deal per Aaron Wilson

Just saw this myself. That is crazy low. Even if he is only an "average" player that is a steal. The guy has started every game in his 5 year career so far.
