  1. Yeah, I am pretty sure the part you quoted specifically has me stating what you wrote. Reading comprehension is a valid skill.

What I said, it's completely dumb to base a teams performance from year to year on their points for and against in the previous year.

But that was only part of his argument. He also went into detail about what each team did in the offseason to improve. The Bengals for example in his opinion did little to improve their biggest weakness which was pass rush and they are unlikely to get much out of their draft class this year since they drafted two OT that will be nothing more than backups as rookies.

  2. Who remembers when Steelers fans claimed that Jesse James would be better than Maxx Williams (clearly upset about us jumping them for Maxx who I'm 99% sure they intended to draft in the 2nd). Just had a chance to watch the Steelers in the HOF game, Jesse James is TERRIBLE. It's not like he just had a bad game either, you don't even see the raw skills of a TE who might amount to anything.

    - Slow as molasses running routes

    - Get's called for a hold

    - Loses a fumble on a good drive from their offense

    - Get's embarrassed on the punt team by Stefon Diggs

    - Drops a lobbed 1 yd TD catch that is literally the easiest catch that any player will ever get in an NFL game and turns the ball over on downs

This is why I can't take anything the Steelers homers say seriously, they honestly hyped him up when they drafted and said he was better than Maxx with complete and utter confidence LOL

Yeah he looked terrible but it was only the 1st preseason game and he's not expected to be anything more than the #3 TE for them this year. He might still turn into a decent player.

  3. Let's be honest though our top two Cornerbacks have NEVER played a full season. Cook would be a great backup and might honestly be superior to Webb at this point. Ozzie needs to get that deal done.

Let's not get too excited about Cook. First, I believe he is currently injured and still working his way back which is why he is still available. Even factoring in the injury, the guy has the size (6'2") and pedigree (2nd round pick) that teams covet at a very important position and yet he's still bounced around a bit. Don't the 49ers want him back? I just have a feeling he either isn't all that good or his injury is a serious concern.

  4. Tucker's aggressiveness is actually a good thing IMO. If you look at the play the Steeler kicker got hurt on it looked like he was going halfway for the tackle. What do NFL players always say? Its when you play not to get hurt is when you get hurt. Tucker won't prance around and flail like other kickers. He will square up and attacked the ball carrier.

  5. If all he's gonna be is a decent Torrey smith clone he's already a bust. He should play if he can. He's our first round pick, he needs to run the full route tree and be the exact opposite of Torrey.

In the short term Perriman needs to replace Torrey. We need that deep threat for our offense to function properly and play to Joe's strengths.

I agree Perriman should become more than that eventually but for his rookie season replacing the production of a player who just signed a $40 million contract is pretty good.

  6. I just don't understand what the reasoning would be to the Ravens keeping 7 WR's. I understand most of you want to keep the guys that are at the flashy positions. But what's the point?

This is why these coaches and player personnel guys have jobs. Because they can see past what the fans want and know how to build a team. Do you guys really want to sacrifice one of DL or OL depth? One or two injuries happen to either one and we are royally screwed. It is so much easier to replace a WR over them.

Secondly, what is the point to keeping 7 WR's? Now I am talking about on our 53 man roster, not on IR or the practice squad. The Ravens most of the time run two WR sets and on third down will run 3 WR, 1 RB and 1 TE. They never run 4 WR. So that means your best 3 WR set is on the field at that point. Do we really need 4 WR's standing on the sideline? Or even 3 for that matter?

7 WR's is just too much to keep without taking a serious hit at another position. At the end of the day, I believe they will do the right thing. That would be to keep 6, IR 1 or practice squad 1. Then on game days, they will dress 5 guys.

Seven is high but they have done it before. I think they went thin at d-line as a result that year. It goes back to what sounds like coaches speak but is really true...they try to keep the best 53 men. Sometimes that means going light at one position and heavy in another.

It's not like the 53 men that start week 1 is the final roster. There are plenty of more roster changes to come any given year. Sometimes it boils down to keeping that 7th receiver for 1 week before releasing him and trying to get him through waivers since other teams are less likely to claim him now that the season has started.

  7. i think it may be best to keep perriman out the whole pre-season

a bone bruise is serious..esp for a guy that runs like perriman.

I would be okay with that. Afterall, lets face facts. All he needs to do to adequately replace Torrey is run really fast in a straight line.

Torrey never developed much more than that. If I recall correctly Joe even more or less called him out on it sometime last year.

  8. If we carry 7 WR then I think Waller is a lock to make the team. There is just too much upside with him. It will get interesting if we only carry 6 WR though since Waller likely won't contribute much on special teams. We all should know by now how big a deal that is for Harbaugh when building the bottom of his depth chart.

  9. I think Urban is legit.  He was getting the same hype last year before he got hurt.  He was my favorite player on the field when I went to camp last year.

In terms of athletic ability he's definitely that dude.  He's a big strong kid.  I'd say drafting Dlinemen has been a big strength of ours.  Apart from Terrence Cody.  Arthur Jones, Jernigan, and Deangelo Tyson were all incredible value.

Yeah they were moving him all over the place when we were there, really impressed me as well

I remember when they drafted him that they liked him so much they considered taking him in the 2nd round but we took Jernigan instead. To get him in the 4th was huge. Too bad he got hurt last year. As good as he might be this year he would be even further along now.

  10. This was the biggest and probably only concern i had about Marlon Brown coming into this season. I've been one of the only guys around here supporting Marlon and i think he's gonna be a big part of the offense, but if he misses a ton of time and Aiken and Butler play really well in his absence, i think that'll put Marlon down that depth chart unless Trestman just loves him and envisions a big role for him.

I wonder if Marlon does much on special teams. I'm sure he probably does. I say that because looking at the WRs on the roster and comparing them to each other Brown and Waller seem to fit the same role as big red zone guys. I don't think Brown is in danger of getting cut but if the team figures injuries will be an issue it should only help Waller's chance of making the team as the 7th WR.

  11. From Harbaugh himself.

"So, I’m pleased. I’m excited about the way we work and the way our guys practice. Joe [Flacco] has been sharp. Matt [schaub] has been sharp."

People seem overly worried about Schaub for some reason but never seemed too concerned when Tyrod was one play away from starting for us. Schaub isn't the player he once was and even then he was only slightly above average but I personally like him as our backup. He's experienced, is a proven passer which Tryod isn't, and the offense doesn't have to dramatically change everything if Joe gets hurt.

  12. They're doing their damnedest to try and implicate Baltimore...  Today on NFL Network, they made it very clear of their lack of involvement.  They do acknowledge that there was a text from our kicking coach about the kickoffs not reaching the endzone.  Which I questioned during the game itself.  How often do you see Tucker unable to get the ball to the endzone?

I noted that during the game as well so when the first reports of deflated footballs came out it all seemed to make sense until I realized the kicking balls and game balls are handled differently.

  13. Tyrod could at least run for a first down instead of gift wrapping a TD to the other team like Schaub seems to do alot.

Well we should know the answer to that by the end of the season. If he can't cut it in Buffalo with the poor QBs he's competing against and that talented offensive roster than we aren't missing anything.

  14. We still managed two pro bowl caliber players in Williams and Wagner plus another starter in Juice. Getting 3 starters in a draft is generally pretty good. Plus we'll see this year what we can finally get from KLM after two consecutive season ending injuries.

The wiffs on the first 2 picks are what everyone focuses on and rightfully so since that could have been a really good draft if Elam and Brown worked out. However, if the draft order was different and we took Wagner in the 1st, Williams in the 2nd, and Juice in the 3rd I don't think people would be complaining as much.

  15. Why is it so hard to buy into that he miraculously turned things around in this third year? Mostly every player usually starts to get  comfortable in The NFl right around their  third year and things start to click.. Some players are able to adjust faster than others. NFl Media Reporter Albert  Breer even had positive things to say about Matt Elam  in his article titled "Baltimore Ravens training camp: Marc Trestman takes the reins" and this what he had to say .

I never thought Matt Elam talent was a issue but all his issues was mental and not being comfortable because he rarely was asked to play his original positions thanks to issues in the secondary from his rookie year and from last year. I highly doubt John Harbaugh and Dean Pees would sing high praise for Matt Elam for nothing or just lie to the fans or the media like that if Elam wasn't really showing a renewed  mind and effort in practice....

I agree with this a lot. He had the misfortune of coming in just as Ed left. As if that wasn't enough pressure he was then asked to do a lot more coverage than he had ever done. He was a box safety in college. I feel like if he could have had a year or two to team with Ed in the back end things would have worked out a whole lot different. Not only would he have actually had someone to mentor him but his transition to the NFL would have been a lot more smooth with Ed handling a lot of the mental aspect of the game freeing Elam up to just play.

  16. I want to point out how much I appreciate Bobby Engram.  I don't even know if there's a real basis for this, but I get the feeling that he's really helping out these young WRs.  It's nice to have a guy with the type of career that he had out there teaching these guys how to do it.

I've reaped the Bobby Engram praise before. He has to be better than the guy he replaced. I can't remember his name but I can picture his face. I remember he got ticked off when we didn't promote him from WR coach to head coach (we chose Harbaugh obviously) so he left.

  17. And shouldn't...

I still remember the playoff games. Anything more than a being #3 will burn Melvin big time.

He played well enough all things considered. He actually reminded me of Jimmy's rookie season during that game. He was in decent position but a HOF quarterback was just too good.

Melvin jumped from #4 to #2 because he is an outside corner and can't play the slot.

  18. It's not fair because it's not the players fault but nothing annoys me more in sports than players who constantly get injured. In limited action Camp has been impressive though so I think he's basically guaranteed at least one more year. I think he really could have made a difference for us last year in a few games.

  19. I have a hard time seeing Lewis-Moore making it considering how loaded we are on the d-line. It's a shame because the guy has a ton of talent but he is also coming off 3 consecutive major injuries (2 ACL and 1 achilles... I think). He has to be rusty considering he basically hasn't played real football since college. If he starts out slow will the team really keep him around over a guy like Tyson who is proven? I'm not sure. I hope I'm wrong though.
