  1. I heard so much about this guy but when i watched him play i saw a guy whom struggled against physical cornerbacks, he's not a good route runner, probably should have stayed in school to work on his craft, yes he can be physical but it seem like when the opposing cornerback is just as physical he will try stunts like pushing the cornerback down which is a penalty in the nfl, he has deceptive speed but he may have a hard time gaining separation in the nfl atleast in his rookie year, and he overall pretty raw . I think there are some risk in drafting Mike Evans in the first round because he's raw but The Ravens will have to have full faith in their receiver coach to help bring this kid up(Ozzie called him the one of the best receiver coach).

He is not polished like Lee is, but hey, Brandon Marshall and Vincent Jackson (the guys Evans iss most compared to) don't exactly run crisp routes or blow past defenders either.

  2. Just got a notification saying we have a profile in mind. That doesn't say very much, but we'll see what happens I guess.

    Here's the corresponding article: http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/John-Harbaughs-Statement-On-Offensive-Coordinator-Search/cdfa178c-f2f3-49bc-92df-f3b128727107

Actually, tells us a lot, since we interviewed Shanahan today. Pretty excited, I think whoever we decide on will make a lot of us happy

  3. Not to derail the thread anymore than it is already, but regardless of how it compares to last year's defense, let's just agree that it is dire need of improvement. The fact that it is even a somewhat debatable topic tells us we have a long way to go.

  4. One that has the athleticism and speed of Randy Moss, with the hands of Cris Carter, and the toughness of Anquan Boldin, and the route running and dedication to detail of Jerry Rice. He should also have the ability to generate multiple clone versions of himself that all operate in unison with one brain. And those clones should also be able to double their body mass and play offensive line as needed

I guess it would be asking too much if he could also get some YAC, since none of our current guys do it with any regularity. :D

  5. I'm torn. One part of me wants us to get the big, fast beast like Evans, Benjamin or even Coleman(project) who could be around in the second round. The other part wants a compact, quick, tough possession type guy that can move the chains like Beckham or Cook.

    How about both? :D

The bigger need seems to be in the slot. The OP is right. We are missing that quick possession type guy that seems to be the common thread for big passing game success.

problem is, if we had a guy like Welker, we would send him on 15 yard posts 80% of the time.

it is true that we need a guy who can move the chains, but let's say we get Evans or Benjamin. we could play him and Torrey outside, and Pitta and Marlon can be our short yardage/middle of the field guys...assuming of course, that we add a few quick passes to the offense other than dump it off to Rice

  6. You don't understand how the Franchise Tag works. It takes the top contracts going back 5 years into account, so the more recent contracts have only partial impact on the Tag.

Gronk was given an extension making close to 9M a year, Hernandez got almost 8M a year. Vernon Davis makes over 7M, Witten makes over 7M, Gonzalez makes 7M, Jared Cook makes 7M, Gates makes close to 7M, Jermichael Finely makes 7M, even Zach Miller makes almost 7M a year. Jimmy Graham is probably going to make 10M+ year.

The fact is it's a very flat market for TEs right now. The going rate is in the 6-7M range for a top 10 TE and when Dennis Pitta is healthy he fits that bill.

It doesnt matter what you or I think is fair, what matters is what some team is willing to pay him on the open market. He isn't going to take a hometown discount, because this is his one chance to cash in. He's 28 years old so he probably will only get this one chance. I wouldn't be shocked if he is Franchise Tagged, maybe for 2 years even.

My brother is a Redskins fan, and tells me that there is talk that the Skins may kick the tires on Pitta. That is the one team in the league we do not want to get into a bidding war with.

  7. I disagree, I debunked a myth(glad you don't hear it because I do) with a fact. Do you need more examples other than Jimmy Smith? There are plenty. I don't believe it's my opinion that there are average players that turn into elite players after having an average first season.

I think he means that it is an opinion to say Jimmy struggled as a rookie. He did at times, but looked great at others. Overall Jimmy played pretty well.

  8. Myth: Ozzie Newsome rarely makes big moves, we primarily build through the draft.

Fact: Ozzie is so good at what he does, that he rarely finds himself in the position to need to make big moves.

However, he has never hesitated to pull the trigger on a trade or sign a big name free agent when it was absolutely necessary. Just over the past seven or eight years alone, he has signed or traded for guys like Samari Rolle, Trevor Pryce, Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin, Matt Birk, Elvis Dumervil, Steve McNair, Willis McGahee, Eugene Monroe and Vonta Leach.

  9. Don't mess with the love.

Just watched a replay of the big game vs the Lions. On 3rd and 15 Flacco threw a high bullet that only he can throw. It was intended for Jacoby Jones, who had made himself open again. It as high and sailing. It was coming with extreme velocity. Jones went up and snagged it. It set the Ravens up for the Game winning field goal. This was after an outstanding Kick Return by Jones as well.

Jacoby returned to the huddle with a determined sneer on his face. He stalked his way quickly into the huddle. Flacco greeted Jones return with a head to head butt. It was respect, appreciation and love without a single word exchanged.

When this season is over, this front office better not tamper with this chemistry. They better have learned their lesson.

After such a horrible season, this provided some very joyful mental imagery...thank you!

  10. This is true however:

"Oher allowed a team-high eight sacks and 42 quarterback hurries this season, according to Pro Football Focus.

He had five penalties this season, but is the most frequently penalized player in the NFL since entering the NFL."

The sad thing is, those numbers are pretty dang bad for a LEFT tackle. For a right tackle, that is the kind of performance that puts you on the unemployment line....permanently. if this is what he is doing in his prime...wow.

  11. Myth: Dennis Pitta is a must sign, indispensable security blanket, outstanding TE.

Fact1: Dennis Pitta, along with the other Ravens of 2012, had a magical run to the Super Bowl and is a good friend of Joe Flacco.

Face2: Performance: in 2010 behind Todd Heap, 1 catch for 1 yard; in 2011, 40 catches for 405 yards and three touchdowns; in 2012, 61 catches, 669 yards, 7 TDs; 2013 IR (mostly).

Fact3: Dennis Pitta is an average TE, recovering from a serious injury and is replaceable.

Opinion: Not worth $7mil. (going rate for top tier TEs); Ravens should make him a right player, right price, fair offer and move on.

    neg away. :)

Pitta is no Jimmy Graham, but I can promise you one thing, with the lack of talent we already have on offense, he will be sorely missed and is not easily replaceable.
