  1. Glad to hear they're still kicking. Although I admit I've never been a huge Mustang fan, I adore the '99 SVT Cobra. A masterpiece, in my opinion, especially for it's time period. It is one of my "must have" cars before I die! Problem is finding someone willing to part with theirs.
  2. Stop hatin'
  3. You speak in past tense when refering to SVT....I know SVT hasn't put anything out for Ford in a while, but do they still exist?
  4. Those cars are no joke. I'd just gut it, throw on some coilovers and slicks, and call it a day. Would be automatic beast status, especialy out on the twisties.
  5. Damn, playboy! That is a serious machine.
  6. I second that. New Caddies are all pimp. I just meant the Lexus' have always just been glorified Buicks (a better comparison). When I read the owner reviews, I laugh, because they get all excited about everything I dont like about cars in general....."ooooh, its like floating on a cloud!" or "Is the motor on? I cant even hear it running!" or "I'm not sure.....should I get the 21 inch or 30 inch monitor for my trunk?" I pay good money to exterminate these flaws, lol I have a M-B ML320 (suv) that I use as my daily driver, and even though I could have gotten the same model year Navigator for a couple grand less and a 99 Escalade for about the same price, I just loathe that "riding on a cloud" feeling that much. The ML320 is much sportier, and actually handles like a car when you push it. (I realize that for most normal, well balanced people, "pushing it" and "SUV" are not supposed to be in the same sentence, but no one ever accused me of being normal either.)
  7. 294 ft-lb sounds about right to me....the RSX's were a bigger 2.0L, and they respond pretty nicely to FI. But I've driven a couple turbo Integras, and they take what seems like forever to spool. The one didn't hit boost until 3700 rpm, and it wasn't even that big a turbo (a T3/T4 of some sort). Off boost, was a dog...but once you get in it, seems like you cant shift fast enough to keep up with the motor. I think you're right, it probably wont blow you away down low, but out on the highway it's a whole different ball game.
  8. Never been a Lexus fan. They're basically Japanese Cadillacs. Except not nearly as good looking and without the badass motors...they're just so....boring... I remember back in the day when only the most pimptastic cars had heated seats. A five speed auto? You must have bought a fancypants luxomobile. And so on. I think the trickle down effect has great benefits. Not just for obvious reasons, but also because it is forcing automakers to do something crazy to get back on the cutting edge -- build a better car, rather than packaging a huge bundle of gadgets and whoopdie-doos. Now it's common place to see factory turbochargers, 7 speed autos, electronic suspensions, exotic brake systems, etc. Back to the old days, when a better car was the most mechanically advanced one.
  9. Now, if you paid more for a front or roof mounted wing than you did on the turbo, then I'd call ya a ricer, lol That's actually pretty badass. 350whp + a close ratio 6 speed in your 2500lb car = win!
  10. Hey now, dont hate too hard on the hybrids! Some of the concept cars are sick. Honda had one a few years ago that put out over 400hp and still got over 40mpg. Once they figure out how to get this shiz mass produced, the tree huggers are really gonna come after us.
  11. Yup, seems that I have a broader definition of what makes a motorhead; not sure why it would exclude any particular group, since we all do the same thing... What car did Joe Dirt drive? Never watched that movie. Please tell me he either drove a late 70's Trans Am or an IROC-Z!!
  12. No offense, but if you define "true motorhead" as a being a pot-bellied slug with a mullet, missing teeth, spaghetti-o stains on his wife beater and a loud *** Trans Am, then I guess you're right; not a true motorhead. But I thought it was about making the fastest time humanly possible, not building the biggest motor and thinking that's good enough. Motorheads to me is anyone who has an interest in and a little knowledge of cars and their inner workings; whether its the slug in the Trans Am, the ricer with the airplane wing and fart can hanging off the end of their Neon, or people with style and taste who restore old Bimmers with their own blood and sweat. That's why Motorheads include Bimmers...I'm pretty sure that piecing together a homemade turbo and installing it yourself is something that would bring a tear of pride to any real motorhead. Thanks for the input though
  13. What is everyone's favorite motors of all time? If cost and availability were no object, what are the motors that get your blood going the most? Personally I've always loved low displacement V8s and high revving I6s. I'm trying hard to narrow it down to my top 3, here's what I've got so far (not necessarily in order): 1. Ferrari's 3.6L V8 found in the Modena (my dream car!) 2. BMW's 3.2L I6 from the late 90's/early 00's M3 3. Porsche's 3.8L H6 from the GT3 There are several other engines I was debating on, but if I can only limit myself to top 3 those would be it.
  14. wow...and I thought my lifelong goal of building a 120 hp leaf blower was nuts!
  15. Yeah, actually I think the LS1 first appeared in the '98 Vettes and Camaros (I think; late nineties sometime anyway), so it's been out there for well over ten years. Easy to see why it is so popular too...easy to find, cheap as dirt (both the motor and OEM/aftermarket parts), powerful, and responds so well to mods. Pretty sick when you can get a lower mileage motor and 6 speed tranny for around $1500, throw in some cams and headers, and have more power than a TT Supra or an E46 BMW M3.
  16. Certainly not a bad choice, but if it were me, I'd save a boat load of money and build my own 600 HP Camaro. LS1 + blower ftw. I know a guy down that dropped an LS1 into his M-B C230, he's currently trying to fit an Eaton sc in it. With that and a stroke kit, he's expecting to get around 550-600HP, all for about 10k including labor and the swap. So I'm trying to beat him in the cheapskate department Want to get this turbo in my car for under $3000, and then laugh at him for spending all that money. He'd probably get me on a track; I'm keeping the boost low; 8-10psi, even though with 9:0-1 stock compression and a stout stock bottom end I can push it a bit higher. He's the Ricky Racer of the bunch, lol, I just want some more mid range power for some fun in the twisties.
  17. Go back to bed, lol..
  18. Question for everyone... Does anyone live near the Hanover PA area (located 7 miles from Maryland line, about 12 miles east of Gettysburg), and have some fabrication experience? Basically what happened is that after some rethinking of what I want to do (and the fact that the cost of aftermarket parts for BMWs are ridiculous), I got a 1993 535i and am going to get rid of the 525i asap (PM me if you're interested... 148k miles, 5 speed, forest green, fully loaded, a couple minor cosmetic issues like a quarter sized dent in rear passenger door). I am going to piece together a turbo system of my own. I still have the factory turbos from a 300zx I used to own, so I need to gather an IC, manifold, piping, etc etc. In the mean time, the 535 needs other things done that I need to take care of first. I've never taken on a project like this before (dropping a turbo into an N/A motor), and I suck with a welder. So........after I get everything together, I will need help fabricating all this.
  19. Lol, I loved the 1 new tire. I dont care who you are, we've all pulled that one before!
  20. Going to have to do some drilling and tapping to make it work, and will need some additional components as well...the heads from all the inline 6 of that era had similiar casting, which is a double edge sword for me. Great for compatibility, but the combustion chambers are the same, so that means compression ratio will be unchanged. But, I'm trying to find a thinner head gasket; that will give me a little boost in C/R if I can get hold of that. The M3 (VANOS) cams have 20* more duration, but slightly less lift. One of the advantages will be that I can advance the timing more with the VANOS setup, but I dont think that the W.A.R. chip will let me adjust when the cams kick in. But it's a trade off that I'm okay with, since I can create custom fuel maps, etc., each time I install a new add on. I really am thinking hard about going with a supercharger. Don't need (or want) a high boost setup, just want a nice kick in the rear in low- and mid- range...and thats where these things need it most. Acceleration out on the highway is nice, once at speed...downshift at 70 then floor it is a barrel of monkeys, lol...but from a stop, or pulling out of low speed turns, the motor is nothing special. Have you had any projects prior to the Xterra? I'm a Nissan guy, but don't know very much about the X's.
  21. *Edit* Just in case anyone actually gives a crap, lol.. Not getting the EAT chip anymore, just placed an order for a Miller W.A.R. unit instead. It's completely customizeable from a laptop, and you can switch between four different states of tune that you created. Good stuff!! On a bone stock 525i it can draw out an extra 18-22 HP and 13-15 ft-lb, as well as raise redline to 7k RPM and removes the top speed reglator, so I'm excited to see how this performs after some mods. Also swapping on the heads from an E36 M3. Wont gain much from flow itself, but gives me VANOS valvetrain, and more agressive cams and timing.
  22. The Hammers are still to this day absolutely gorgeous cars! Timeless is the word for them. Good choice! What have you done with the Xterra? Lifted?
  23. Try running very loose timing (6-6-6-24), then work your way up from there once your certain your CPU is stable.

Also may want to check your clock skew and MCH volts!!

  24. Nice!

Getting ready to upgrade mine as well. Right now, running a Q6600 @ 3.6GHz (450 x 8), 8 GB OCZ DDR2-1000 RAM, Nvidia 9800GT, 10k rpm Velociraptor for the boot drive, and Biostar mobo.....going to upgrade to the i7; keeping the graphics card and hard drive, and everything else will be new. Can't wait to see how they run!

  25. You're on overclock.net too, eh? Pretty cool site. I'm working on a custom computers and hardware site myself.
