  1. @allblackraven WE DONT NEED A STRONG SAFETY WE HAVE ONE. Tired of people thinking they are the same position they are not. And only a select few can play both FS and SS and be productive. We are looking for a STARTER... NOT a player to come in and sit and learn. if we dont get a STARTING FS in the FA, just know If Ha Ha falls to us, we will draft him at 17th overall. Just like we got Elam last year with our first pick. They want a PLAYMAKER, not a sit and learn/special teams safety. We have enough of those on our damn team

QUOTED FROM NFL.COM ABOUT JIMMIE WARD.

    DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 6-7

BOTTOM LINE Wiry, active, aggressive strong safety at his best playing downhill and reacting to plays in front him. Lacks starter-caliber size, instincts, range and cover skills, but could serve as a backup and special-teams contributor.

Oh, BTW - Ward is the size of Ed Reed, had 95 tackles and 7 picks last season and is a hell of a player. Have you ever watched him play? He is projected late 2nd round but we might not even see him on the board where we pick in 2nd.

Haha is not NFL starter caliber.

  3. Guys, there's nothing wrong with drafting SS with good coverage skills this year. If we do, I bet we'll get Jimmy Ward, not Pryor. Calvin Pryor (or Haha for that matter) is not worth the 17th pick and Ward likely can be had in 2nd round. Apart from that, Ward might just be a better player than Pryor or Clinton-Dix.

I'm on the fence with this Clark thing. I'd obviously support him as a Raven but I wouldn't be too excited, that's for sure. I also won't be unhappy if we leave him to someone else to sign.

  4. Courtney is An OLB, but I doubt they'd trade all the way out of the first, that would be hard to pull off and a huge pass on lots talent. Louis Nix should still be there and there are still good guys later in the draft, like a Stephen Tuitt

Yeah I know, I just think Upshaw can be used on the edge OK and Hamilton/Simon get more OLB snaps.

  5. Any reasonable NTs, 3-4 DEs we could sign? I don't trust Ngata's health, and with Art gone, our abysmal run defense may even get worse. The only guy I see that we have currently with huge upside is Brandon Williams, and maybe KLM. We have literally no one else besides Canty.

After this deal with S. Smith, I think we keep big Cody, trade out of the 1st, select Hageman in 2nd and Pagan (Ala) late. We'll have more picks in middle rounds for double-dipping at WRs (assuming we get one with our other 2nd round pick).

Courtney Upshaw is not bad DE.

  6. I am very disappointed in this year's WR draft class.

Tim Smith            WR    95      Virginia    rSr    6-0    195
Rashard Smith    WR    128    North Carolina State    rSr    5-9    177
Jamil Smith         WR    140    Ball State    rSr    5-6    140
Devon Smith       WR    150    Marshall    rSr    5-7    155
Daniel Smith       WR    116    Notre Dame    Sr    6-3    213

Best rated Smith is only 95th.

  7. Colts sign Phil Costa. I know that they were taking a look at Alex Mack

This is great, there won't be an offer sheet for Browns to match. Thinking about that, I figure Ozzie is making a deal with Mack for next year. Realistically, we can't put up an offer that Browns won't be able to take up this year, looking at their and our cap situation. And playing with that would mean Mack stays there till he's well over 30.

  8. i see some people saying that, but i see so much of people saying "we can sign steve smith and then we dont have to worry about drafting a WR, we can just draft to fill our other holes at safety and center and ILB etc."

i dont see as much of a hole at ILB as others see(IF we can resign smith) and safety and center are just weak positions, clinton dix and pryor are just not impressive, the only reason theyre regarded so widely as first rounders is because the rest of the class is so weak. so with everyone saying lets get a safety in the first, im just scratching my head like... why? when instead we could sign a safety and stick to the original draft plan and take advantage of this amazing WR class.

I'm with you on safeties in this draft. We'll get one probably but in mid rounds. It could be any position in 1st - and it likely won't be a need but whoever is highest rated on Ozzie's board.

  9. why is this entire board SO PRESSED on signing a old WR, or a average at best WR in FA, because that will somehow make it a smart move for us to ignore WR in the draft? this is the best WR draft there has been in years, there is a ton of talent in the first 2 rounds, why ignore that to draft an incredibly weak position like safety, when safety is clearly the smarter position to address in free agency? i dont see the logic, at all, steve smith in no way, shape or form, would make us "set" at WR, he is a 1-2 year stop gap and we need a reliable, well rounded WR of the future instead of all these short term plugs and roleplaying "weapons" we have. im all for signing smith, but i dont want to sign the guy because that makes ozzie say "ok now lets ignore the best position in this entire draft to fill our other holes" . if we get a stop gap free agent, obviuously safety and center would be the positions, not WR.

Are we reading the same board? From what I see most people are content with Steve Smith signing plus 2nd round WR in a draft.

  10. "Steve Smith told WFNZ on playing against the Panthers this year: 'Put your goggles on cause there's going to be blood and guts everywhere.'" (source: Aaron Wilson on twitter)

So, he knows he's gonna play v. the Panthers next season? Sounds like he already had an idea where he would play next... doesn't it?

Nah, I listened to that interview - it was a joke.

  11. Yeah that's one of the concerns that I had. He's likely only going to play for us one or two years. It'd be a shame that we didn't take a receiver in one of the deepest drafts in a while just because we got Steve Smith as a stop gap.

I do think we still take a weapon early though but it will probably be a TE instead of a WR.

Haven't we signed our own TE weapon? We'll get TE who can block. And we'll draft WR no later than 2nd unless top prospect wideout drops to where we pick.

  12. Yes, but any receiver we get is coming in as a slot type WR to make tough. Think of it this way... they want to find a younger Boldin.

So if Boldin was on the team in 2013, what percentage of the time do you think Marlon Brown would have been on the field? Its entirely conceivable that he would have been a gameday inactive for the majority of the season.

I agree that everybody plays a role, which is why I identified Brown as a "role player". His role will be situational, and in particular, probably as a depth player with upside in the red zone.

That's not the kind of description you give to a #2 WR. That's the kind of description you give to a #3 or 4 WR.

You are probably correct re 2013 if Q stayed with us. But for next season, I don't think your assessment of Brown is accurate - he'll be way better than you think. All of our receivers will if everybody stays healthy.

  13. I can get down with that. Means we'd probably target a tackle in Round 1 then. If we lock Monroe up we'll probably draft a WR instead. So would you rather have:

    -Monroe + 1st round WR/Safety

    or

-Alex Mack + 1st round Tackle

If the first round tackle is Robinson or Matthews, I'd be tempted. But that's impossible.
