Ozzie continues to try to outsmart himself and pick players where we don't need them. This annoys me every year. We have Ngata, B Williams, Canty, Kapron Lewis, and others and yet we draft another DT so one of them sits on the bench. To me, that's wasting a pick at a position you can wait on, while the position of need is weak and vulnerable. Thumbs down on round 2.
Again. You are thinking this team is going to only address the positions it needs for this year. If you did that and went by position you would get an 8-8 team at best instead of picking the best player available. This is probably the steal of the second round for every team. Ravens can address with FA and trades before the season but if you think for a moment the Ravens didn't need a DL in the draft you are wrong. Ngata and Canty are aging and I can't count how many times both those guys were on the injury list last season.
what the heck! We pass on Moses and Amaro. Moses a T who was ranked 35th overall, and who could have started right away. And Amaro, a pass catching TE. Instead we draft a guy at a position we have guys at. I understand, Ngatas contract situation next year. But we drafted Williams last year. That's 2 picks in a row that we passed on immediate starters for guys we won't need for 2 years. And both guys we drafted are injury prone. The Jets picked right after us both times and got Pryor to play FS in round 1, and Amaro to play TE in the 2nd. Unbelievable!
They picked the best player I was actually surprised we got first round talent in the second round. He was projected as high as near top 12 a couple months ago.
That's what makes me mad about this pick. Its like they're giving up on him already after only one year of play. I know Cody's contract is up soon as is Tyson's but this is a position that could have waited until next year.
This team believes in best player available and they did a great job here when Jernigan was projected 1st round. It isn't about one year it is about several years. It isn't about winning one year it is about several. With this pick it makes it easier on everyone on the defense because there will be a fresh rotation and Ngata is getting way up there in age. Teams that pick players they need this season are the ones that never win championships. This is how Baltimore got to the play offs 5 years in a row and that is how they are going to do it again. 3 AFC championships 1 Superbowl since 2008. Go Ravens.
He was projected 1st round in many mocks. Quite the steal if you ask me. Perfect pick.
What about Kyle VanNoy? Great player. He's going to be the next Luke Kuechly.
Might as well use all eight of our draft picks on inside linebackers so no other teams have them huh? Good idea then we can trade them and get them for more! Lmao I think our linebackers are good now after Mosley. I bet in next years draft the Ravens look to a DT and OLB early because of the aging Ngata, Suggs, Dumervil, and Canty.
Id wait on RB til 3rd or later, NFL doesnt value them unless its like AP or LT. You could likely get West, Williams or Storm Johnson Comp 3 pick or later.
I to want to see Latimer, Lee, Seferian Jenkins etc in rnd 2
Landry,Allen Robinson, Federowiscz rnd 3 or
Maybe they fall far enough to use the comp3 Yankey, Gabe Jackson, Antonio Richardson
Rnd 4 West
R4 Comp Vereen//Reynolds
That would be great to get one of those receivers in the 2nd round. I also agree the Ravens an get someone of the offensive line in the third round like Antonio Richardson who will be just as affective as someone in the second round. Get that receiver now or that tight end (I do like the idea of Jenkins behind Daniels for a year and then having him be the #2 next year if he pans out). RB we better not draft until the fourth round. Safeties are rare now so I wouldn't be surprised if Baltimore just tries to trade for a safety after the draft or try to sign one. Ed Reynolds looks okay but not amazing. I still think the 49ers got the best safety in the draft. 2nd round get Joe a weapon. Round 3 get a O-lineman and look who's left at safety. Break.
I am hoping for a TE/WR in the 2nd round like ASJ or Lee/Matthews (if any of those fall) Latimer can be added to that list. Then get a tackle in the third round along with possibly a safety (Ed Reynolds if he falls he reminds me of Ed Reed)
Red zone target Austin Seferian-Jenkins gets tagged at 47. Ravens struggled mightily in the RZ last year, at 6'6" ASJ brings the vertical threat and the blocking.
I highly agree I can see him helping in the pass game. When the Ravens say they need a receiver it doesn't mean they have to be a wide receiver. The way that Kubiak will be putting Pitta in the slot and a lot of tight end sets, along with bringing Juice from the backfield as a target a third tight end behind Pitta and Daniels would be great for that red zone threat. Think of sending Pitta out wide with Daniels and ASJ in the tight end slots on the 5 yard line.
Then I believe the Ravens could get the other Tennesee tackle that no one talks about I can't remember his name I believe it is Richardson. Solid in run blocking but needs work on pass protection. He should be available in the third round when we pick and then get a WR or RB with our comp pick whatever tickles Ozzies' pleasure.
I came on here last night and I could not believe a lot of people didn't like Mosley. I was caught off guard because I thought he would go higher. People who think inside linebacker is not a need needs to wake up. Arthur Brown has not proven anything. Bynes is not even average. Mosley can turn into a great product. Many compare him to Kuechly (can't spell it and too lazy to search it up) from the Panthers. Of course secondary and offensive line are bigger needs but Ozzie picked the best player that is still a need. I knew Ward would go in the first round even when people said second round I wish we could have traded back and got him but Mosley is a solid pick. Now the Ravens need to draft an OT or WR in the 2nd round. I would say safety but the only safety I would be interested in is Ed Reynolds. I see more talent at WR and OT in the second round. The Ravens can pick up a safety with the rest of their cap in FA after the draft if need be. I don't think people understand what Mosley brings to the table. Can't forget Daryl Smith, Terrell Suggs, and Elvis Dumervil are all aging of course Mosley will be an inside linebacker but it was smart for Ozzie to get the middle of the defense that much younger and talented.
What's with all the hate towards Ed Reed?
He's gona get paid the minimum and is willing to sit whenever whoever we draft is ready to take over at FS.
It's just so rude hearing u guys hate on a guy that gave this team his heart without real reasons other than he's 35 or he's not as good as he was. Really? And Clark is as good as he was? Is he 28? The simple right solution is right there but unfortunately harbs is too proud to even consider bringing back ed. Simple as that
I don't think that people are hating on Ed Reed... But even a year before the Ravens super bowl win you could tell Ed Reed was on the decline. You could see the same in Ray Lewis. Of course they could of still been productive players but there is a thing called aging... Ed Reed missed a lot of tackles the last couple seasons which is exactly why Baltimore didn't overpay for him like Houston did. Baltimore offered him probably the best that they knew he would perform at because they love him. I think it would be better suited for the Ravens to find someone else besides Clark and Reed. I wouldn't be upset using our first pick on Pryor or Clinton-Dix. But I would rather sign a tight end and a center and call it good for the most part on free agency end (besides a couple back ups for depth) and then draft a tight end like Ebron or Amaro in the first round because of our receiving depth is huge.... (I do not see a lot of our younger receivers playing. Most time will go to Smith Squared, Jacoby, and Marlon)
My point is if you get Steve Smith this point in his career your saying we will win a Super Bowl this year and or next year.. because at that point he will be gone.. Lets be real here.. we are all ravens fans and have the right to dream but realistically speaking we will not go from 8-8 to Super Bowl with a 35 year old Steve Smith.. We need to think young talent and get some longetivity..not 1-2 year experiments
I said play off contenders not superbowl winners.... But who knows Steve Smith plays tough like AnQuan Boldin if you get another tight end in there and add Smith and then draft a young receiver who knows what may happen. All I can say is we will be better with Steve Smith than we were last year.
I wonder if the Ravens are taking a look at Danario Alexander. He can play with the best of them when he's healthy, but his knee hasn't held up for an entire season... He would probably come in cheap, and he's got tons of potential.
Yeah I have been preaching this for the last couple months. It's a low risk high reward. I think it would be a good chance. Just don't play him against the Steelers.... That Polomalu/Mitchell combo looks very scary for next season.
Probably not the only one, but I'm not in that camp. Of course, he's past his prime ... if he were in his prime, he'd be a clear-cut top FA who would command big money. As it stands, he could be just the right fit for us ... savvy, experienced, tough as nails and a good model for Brown and the WR to be selected in the draft (I have to assume we'll get one).
We've been considering bringing in a vet WR all along, so I don't know that moving on Smith stops us from doing anything we hadn't already planned - except picking from the list of other FA WRs that have been known to be on the market.
Of course, it will still come down to price - but I'm pretty sure Ozzie won't just start forking over stacks of cash ... that's not his style. In that regard, it is not a done deal like so may wish to think, but I think it is a great fit and I hope we strike a reasonable deal and get him in.
'Nuff said.
"The Ravens are 3-for-3with retaining their own players." Haha, that's cunning
We're 3 of 5 - we lost Corey Graham and Art Jones, right? But the three we kept are much more important than the two we lost. i agree on that.
Don't forget Ihedigbo who was signed this morning to the Lions. So 3/6 but not sure if you would count that because I do not think the Ravens even tried to retain him.
BTW, as far as I remember, this was the second time Jacoby took less to be a Raven... Two years ago the Panthers (?) offered more, if I recall that correctly. So, its one more reason to like the guy.
He wasn't kidding when he said he would take a pay cut to stay in Baltimore last season. I am happy because he makes returns exciting and when Flacco chucks up the ball to him deep you can't help but stand up off the couch.
.
Id rather gamble on Kenny Britt than Steve Smith.. Im just sayin.. the guy is only 25.. if anything give him a one year deal.. If it works out this season then next year when the cap goes up another 10 mill you can lock him up for a long term deal.. the talent is definitely there.. possibility for a huge reward.. Seems like the type of player that would give his all if playing for a contender.. Just a thought.. You never know these days
I think I would rather have the best player in Panther's franchise history who has been consistent ever since his 2nd year of playing than a iffy Britt who can go either way. Remember the Ravens need a play maker to be a play off contender. If so Smith will only be signed for a 1 or 2 year deal. If Britt comes cheap as well why not get him also? He may come cheap because not many teams want him.
Am I the only one who DOESN'T want Steve Smith? Sure, he's had a great career and all, but he is past his prime. We need to use the money on picking up a FS or another TE. I think we should get Clemons at FS and Owen Daniels at TE and draft a WR in the first round. I'd rather have a 1st round rookie who is fresh than a 35 year old receiver who is past his prime.
I would agree but after what I saw on offense last season he may be a good fit. His numbers were down last season due to injuries. If he proves to be healthy he still can put up great numbers. I mean before last season he was still putting up 1000+ yards in a horrid Panthers offense... I would also like Owen Daniels but I think in the end that the Ravens will probably draft Pryor or Haha Clinton-Dix with their first round pick and then a receiver in round 2. It all depends on what he is asking for. The Ravens didn't want to lose Boldin but 6 million is a lot of cash the Ravens didn't have last season. If Smith, a quality player, asks for around 4 million I wouldn't see why not. I think he may be a spark for the Ravens receiving core.
It means every single person has a different OPINION of what a #1 WR is. Some think its the guy that puts up the most stats, and some thing its the guy that teams target when they need a conversion.
In general, I'd like to think that if a team's fans have to argue about who their #1 WR is, then they probably don't have one. I think the Ravens would fall into that mode, and have for years.
Agree agree and agree on this post.... People have major differences in beliefs for who the #1 receiver is, it really is on opinion. In my opinion, I do not see Torrey Smith as a #1 receiver just because he isn't consistent and doesn't get as many catches as another receiver can. But if we base it off stats Torrey Smith had one hell of a year last year even with the poor offensive play. It's all a matter of opinion. I just want a player who can consistently get open in the draft I do not care what type of receiver they are.
No issue Webb playing FS, has the range, and is one of the most under-rated tackling CB's in the league....
Why put a great cornerback at safety. There's a saying that says don't mess with something that isn't broken. Plus after the Graham signing that just would weaken our cornerback core...
Why isn't Bernard Pollard still there who was more productive than both Idhedigbo and Elam. Hell Ed Reed even made more plays then they did when he went to the Jets. Between Smith & Boldin, who had the more productive season? 2 million brought in to bums last year Spears and Huff.
The 49ers had a better O-line than the Ravens and I actually think Torrey got more receiving yards I could be wrong they were close. Reed is made of glass thats why the Texans dropped him. Pollard committed too many penalties and many players last offseason said that he was annoying in the locker room.
Steve Smith is 35 years old. Edelman 27.. Smith had 2 big injuries last year.. Edelman had 0.. Steve Smith was on the Panthers and up and coming super bowl contending team.. Why are they releasing him if he means so much?.. Because he doesnt.
He has proven he can still play.... Plus Edelman will probably get a lot more money than Smith which the Ravens cannot afford when they need to sign Daryl Smith and possibly a C, RT, or FS
I can't see the Ravens signing Steve Smith, even though I think he's what the Ravens need offensively (A tough as nails Anquan Boldin type player) He's to much of a fiery guy. Harbaugh doesn't want that kind of player, because he will challenge him.
What is up with you bashing Harbaugh? Nobody is challenging him. The Ravens thought Boldin was not worth the 6 million and that cap helped save the defense last season. Plus it helped get Arthur brown. If you could get Steve Smith for 4-5 million a year or Boldin for 6 million I would take Smith.... Nothing against Boldin but Smith can still also play at a high level and cap is so important you do not know how far 2 million can go to save a player.
I highly doubt that the Ravens sign Edelman but I could be wrong. But he is probably going to command a very high contract. I think Steve Smith may come around 3-4 million a year and may give the edge to a team like the Ravens because they are a play off contender almost every year. I doubt he would go to a team like the Raiders or Jacksonville
for how much because jon beason a player that is worse than daryl just got 3 years 19 million. so 3 years 25 to 28 million not happening. but i've seen crazier things.
3 years for 20 wouldn't be bad if he would agree to that. But I doubt it will happen the way this free agency is already going. Maybe he will give a discount if Jacoby gives him sweet pea's number.
