That news conference does not sound like the normal Suggs. Maybe he is debating calling it a career.... If he is winding down that is terrible news for the Ravens because their outside linebacker depth is very very thin. Very talented at the top but very thin. If Suggs doesn't produce around the 12-15 sack range like he typically does the Ravens defense may be hit very hard by opposing offenses.
I agree giving the young guys a shot but everyone should remember Crockett Gillmore is our most experienced tight end right now and he had barely over 100 yards last season. I am just as excited to see younger guys contribute, but the Ravens may lack that experience at tight end at least for the first handful of games of the 2015 season and that may hurt their play off chances with the tough schedule they face. Just pointing it out there that if Pitta is medically cleared he will play just because of his experience. Because it may backfire on Baltimore. Honestly the Ravens have the deepest roster of talent than any other team this coming season but the problem is that is relying on a lot of young guys and if they do not produce then Baltimore can easily be an 8-8 team again or they can potentially be a 13-3 team with first round bye and home field. I hope the coaching staff gets them prepared before Denver and so on.
I just want everybody to get better, every single player on the team has to take an extra step forward. I have high expectations for everyone, Lorenzo has to show he's more than a goal line back, TJ has to step up to replace Nagta and generate more interior pass-rush, Gillmore has to stand out and earn his reps over top prospect Maxx and Boyle who's was impressing in minicamp, and Urschel has to prove he can be a starter like Hurst did. Even though there are certain players we are more excited to see than other, really I just want everybody to get better and aim for bigger roles.
Urschel did prove he was starter worthy last season. He stepped in a couple games as a starter when Osemele went out for a couple games. The only thing he can really prove now is that he is better than our starter now Zuttah which we have signed for a couple years.
What is it about the Univ. of Buffalo lately that they keep producing these pass rushers? Steven Means, Za'Darius Smith and that unfortunate soul Bud Dupree. Something is in the water in Buffalo.
You could say the same thing about the wide receivers UCF produces. Seems like a lot have had careers in the NFL.
You guys are going to maul me for this but why not mathis at center? He has the right tools to dominate anywhere in the center of the line
can you imagine KO MATHIS YANDA
Mathis is the best guard in football..yes Yanda is the only guy that comes close ( take into account last year mathis was out for most of the year and when he came back in just 9 games he was a clearcut 2nd in PFF and likely at the rate he was on would have been above Yanda had he played all the games)
The Ravens offensive line was ranked 2nd in the league last year even after the injuries to KO and Wagner. The Ravens already have two solid back ups. Why waste more cap space on a player when your other option already on your roster in Zuttah has been very solid for us. I think it would be better for the Ravens to invest into a linebacker, veteran defensive lineman, or another cornerback.
"In recent memory, I haven’t seen a world champion with this much turnaround" - How about the 2012 Ravens, Tedy?
You just agreed with him. How welll did the 2013 Ravens do? Exactly the point. Outside of the 2013 and 2014 Seahawks which Super Bowl champion came back the next year to another Super bowl in recent memory? It doesn't happen much anymore because by the time a team gels and comes together contracts expire and everyone always wants the best deal they can get on the market. The Seahawks avoided that by having two talented drafts in a row so all their starters were very relatively young.
They said he would get 50 catches last season and he didn't even sniff anywhere near that number. I expect this story to be the same. I feel bad but at the same time when you have 4 tight ends that will most likely make the roster that are better at route running and catching that will keep him to blocking duties for the most part... The versatility of him could help trick some defenses out a time or two when needed but other than that I don't see him much of a factor in the vertical game.
While I don't agree with Harrison's overall assessment of putting the Ravens as a "second-tier" team in the AFC, his points are valid. We know very little about what this passing game is going to look like. New OC, massive amounts of unknown, unproven players at WR and TE. This can't be overstated. These are things we can't possibly know what to expect until we actually play games.
The Ravens are a top tier team in the AFC and are overlooked by many. I mean... Second best team in the AFC. The Ravens vs. Pats game should have been the AFC National Championship game. Pats killed the Colts proving that the Ravens losing by one score to the Pats put them in second last season. Also the Pats took a step down losing 3 of their starting cornerbacks in Arrington (now here), Revis, and Browner. Also the Colts do not understand that they need a DECENT defense to go farther in the AFC and signed only veterans really on the offensive side of the ball which they didn't need because they were already one of the best, if not the best offense last season. The only team I may rank ahead of Baltimore as of today is Denver. The Ravens biggest offseason loss was Torrey Smith who was solid but not great to begin with. That is why I think the offense continues their last season success and now they have more of a variety of receivers to work with and depth is huge when the injury bug comes around.
Looks as if Aiken took over Marlon Brown's #2 spot so far but I wouldn't be surprised if receivers went up and down a lot more during this process. I'm sure all will see more time on the field. Flacco is going to be known for getting multiple passes completed to several different receivers each game and look like Tom Brady next season but with a stronger arm.
Look at the numbers, 39,37,36 etc.. Flacco has another 8-10 strong years, and at this rate I said it before I'll say it again when its done he will own virtually all playoff win record, with another SB Ring or 2. Only locking up his HOF Resume even more
And at the end of the day he won't because in the media's eyes his team "carried" him then they praise Russell Wilson. It makes no sense to me but if the media does not like Flacco he won't go into the HOF unfortunately.. Sad truth.
Forsett still playing with a chip on his shoulder. Taliaferro down in body fat and is leaner. Buck Allen learning the ropes behind them. Pretty strong running back group it looks like heading into this season.
If he plays even better than last season that just makes that secondary that much more scary to throw against. This guy is a monster every where on the field.
Harbaugh and Ozzie finally got tired of all the Joe Flacco being elite questions so they went out there and drafted some talented guys up high in the draft. He has had very little to work with so far so if these guys can gain seperation its donezo for the rest of the AFC. Ravens were the 2nd best team in the AFC last season and they barely lost to the team that won the Super Bowl because of some "questionable" calls by the referees. Can't wait for the next coming season!
Hate to say it but if the coaching staff thinks the same way about Carter as Steve Smith does, Campanaro will be the odd receiver out even though I think that Carter will at least be attempted to move to the practice squad. Campanaro's injuries may be the downfall of his NFL career that just recently begun.
I love Juice, but not sure whether he won't be collateral damage of keeping too much players elsewhere, such as having 4 TEs and 6-7 WRs as well as 3 RBs if both Allen and Taliaferro are on the active roster, come beginning of season.
Ravens seem to always have a full back on the roster I bet his job is safe. I think we had 7 wide receivers on the roster last season I bet they cut it to 6 this season to make room for the 4 tight ends they will need to keep on the roster. I just bet Boyle or Pitta (depending on injury status) will be inactive for games because we won't need 4. The position people need to look at the cuts are at cornerback (we have so many now its rediculous and will be interesting to see who makes the final roster) and defensive line with all the young pieces and others they signed and moved in here. I'm surprised the Ravens have yet to sign a solid inside linebacker like Bynes was for us a couple years ago because one injury to CJ Mosley or Daryl Smith and that inside linebacker core will be exposed. Great talent at the position just depth wise the next person up would be Arthur Brown and they talk about how he hasn't played well enough to even get into even one package on the field.
For Pete's Sake! I've been one of Campanaro's biggest supporters and rooting for him just SO much, and now I read that he's sidelined again. I can't put into words how much that disappoints me. I haven't heard what the injury is, but I certainly hope it's not serious. I thought that the Only thing he had to prove this year was durability. His talent level speaks for itself. But, this is NOT good. Camp has a real and legitimate threat for his roster spot this year with Carter being such a similar receiver. Of course, Carter has to show what he can do and avoid injury himself, but this news that Camp is sidelined is just the worst news his supporters could have heard. Gosh, I hope it's just a super minor little thing. It was so easy for me to envision a Wes Welker Type receiver with him, but man, you gotta be able to stay on the field. I'm really disappointed. C'mon, Camp, toughen up, willya? You may not have too many chances left, if any at all depending on what has happened.
Does anybody know why Camp is sidelined? That's the Last thing I wanted to read about.
Tore his quadriceps but they said he could be back shortly. But with his injury past he may slip. I still don't understand why people are so high on Carter though they are saying the exact same thing about him as they did about Campanaro last year and how much did he play? I bet Carter gets signed to the practice squad I think Campanaro's job is safe for now but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets put on IR next time he gets hurt.
I'm excited for the next couple days of OTA's because Perriman, Williams, and Allen will be there this time and I want to see how they line up against the veterans that are attending. I want a sneak peak at the season. I hope Perriman catches that Steve Smith fire he would be unstoppable with his size and speed.
I hope this doesn't mean, that Trestman will be gone after 1 season. Flacco's coaching tree grows fast.
Should the Ravens allow Webb to return kicks? NO!!! That would be insane, after all the injuries our secondary went through last year.
Haloti Ngata in a non-Raven uniform. Awful. Why are guys posting this? It hurts so bad.
Trestman signed a 3 year deal so he is staying in purple if he either replicates last years' success or builds on it.
5 players that need big showings this Summer:
1. Matt Elam
2. Matt Elam
3. Arthur Brown
4. Matt Elam
5. Matt Elam
didnt miami have more wins than new orleans last year anyway? ellerbe might end up wishing he would have stayed- i dont see the saints doing much this year- esp after the loss of jimmy. however anything is possible in the good ol nfc south. i also think the whole afc east made signifigant strides this offseason- which is good to finally get some competetition for new england and knock them down a few notches.
I see the Saints doing better this coming season. With Drew Brees anything is possible and the Saints super bowl win a couple years back was when the Saints ran the ball. Brees is like Brady, he makes the solid at best receivers around him play well. He dishes the ball in several directions. Now the Saints have arguably one of the best running back tandems in the NFL if Spiller can stay healthy. That defense is just off and on year after year but I would have more faith in the Saints with their competition than I would the Dolphins with the Patriots always playing well and the Jets and Bills seemed to have added more additions so far this offseason than the Dolphins have.
I think Ozzie picks up another vet safety after camp cuts.
I agree I bet that is the first area they look at. I also wouldn't be surprised if they signed a running back to their practice squad for insurance.
I think we are pretty set at Safety with Levine moving back, Brooks will start on Pup, and Elam and Perry as backups...If anything we resign Miles, since he is familiar with our system...JMO....
Levine is okay but still not great. Elam has played pretty terrible his entire career. Perry is an undrafted rookie and it doesn't even sound like hes turning any heads at training camps. Brooks won't play until late in the season if at all. Levine would be the only option at safety if one were to go down in my opinion and I don't even necessarily see him as starter material yet. He was good in the slot covering the #3 receiver last season but other than that it sounds like in the safety position we are putting a lot on these young guys' plates. Would be nice to find a solid addition like we got Ihedigbo to play behind Pollard and Reed a couple years ago.
Luckily I think the Ravens are deep at almost every position, and a lot more than they were last year. The only position I would be worried about with injuries this next season is safety, if Will Hill or Kendrick Lewis go down for too long who will replace them? Also the only other position I can think of an injury making the team fall hard would be running back. If Forsett went down there is no real veteran there to help move along the young guys and these young guys will have to learn to live in the AFC North. Of course if Flacco went down it would probably end the season unless it was late in the season I could see Schuab producing some alright drives. He is probably the best back up in the league... But at that point you would need players to step up big time to even win a play off game.
His theme song that should be played at M&T Bank Stadium should be Madness by Muse. Ma ma ma ma ma Maxx Maxx Maxx ma ma ma ma ma ma Maxx Maxx Maxx.
How comfortable are you all with the RB position? I think we have solid backs that can ground and pound, but it would be nice to have that home run hitter on the roster.
I'm comfortable, you have the shifty, agile Forsett, the one cut runner in Buck Allen (hopefully he will turn out better than Pierce, and then the bruiser in Taliaferro. If you're asking about that home run guy it would probably be Buck Allen just because of the style he plays. The thing I am concerned about is if Forsett goes down how much do we trust Taliaferro and Allen to run the ball for us? Taliaferro averaged 4 yards a carry and wasn't bad in his play time. The offense has got a lot younger which means a lot more unproven guys to come in, which makes it exciting to wait and see.
My hopes are for Waller to be "one we've been waiting for". You just have to love a 6'6 240lb receiver.
Agreed and I'm more excited about Perriman. People look at the 4.20 seconds 40 yard dash time and immediately put him into the category of speedster when he is basically the same mold of another receiver in the draft in Kevin White, but faster. Kevin White got picked before because he isn't as raw but looking off of Perriman's tape he goes up and catches some tough balls which Torrey Smith and Mike Wallace never did as speedsters. Perriman made Bortles look good a lot of the times with his diving acrobatic catches.

Now that is stretching it a bit dont you think? Of course he is a veteran and has a standard being in the NFL to keep his body to a certain weight and conditioning but undisciplined and out of shape every offseason? Am I the only person recalling stories all of the last 5-6 years where they said Suggs has been in his best shape of his career? I know for a fact there was one last season. Kind of hard to call him overhyped when hes getting around 15 sacks every season. He may act like a goofball during press conferences but so does Steve Smith. It isn't a discipline thing, it is just them joking around.
