RT, ILB, and 3/5T are all positions where the ravens can and should feel comfortable with what they already have on the roster.

You don't always need to draft a player to replace a departure. If you have young unproven guys in house already, then what's the difference between using those unprovens vs drafting another unproven? A potential waste of picks, that's the difference

To add to this, there is still a wave of free agency. I wouldn't be surprised if 2 or 3 veterans are brought in for cheap after the draft.

Colts still need a rb though. They've been squeezing every little bit of life out of frank gore that they can and to keep Andrew luck upright and to keep him from throwing picks they need to give him an easy outlet.

I actually think the best way for their offense to flourish is to upgrade the offensive line.

He'd be exciting in the saints offense but I just think they have to be focusing on defense - brees will put up yards and lead a top 10-5 offense no matter who they have on offense but their defense has consistently ruined any potential chances to progress - I don't see how they don't go defense

id like the colts to go rb because it would mean they aren't improving in the front office despite jettisoning Ryan grigson

I love Brees and I think he is a top 3 quarterback in the league but I do think his stats are really inflated from garbage time. I think defense is more of a concern but they do have 2 first round picks and both necessarily don't have to go to defense. Having a 1-2 punch on the ground will do what they want to do and will keep their defense off the field longer.

I would scratch my head if the Colts took a running back.

I heard this as well. Apparently that's why he's not doing any private workouts for teams. I'm thinking saints or colts

edit: Rossi pointed out the eagles which would make more sense than either of them.

I think it could be the Saints or Colts. The Saints have tried to run a heavy run offense and the past two years has flopped to the point Brees still throws the most in the league. McCaffery would be a good complement to Ingram in their offense. That is if they are confident in finding a top notch corner at #32.

Is the 2015 Ravens draft class the reason we did not make the playoffs last year?

I was reading the press box article of the unsuccessful 2015 Ravens draft class, and I saw some commentary from it that spoke volumes to me, here is the excerpt paragraph:

"More than once last season, first with departed Marc Trestman and then later with current offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, Flacco pleaded for the team to get more aggressive with deep throws."

I honestly think this comment speaks to where Joe is as a leader on this team.

Why can Joe not check out of plays, and call a deep route, (we know damn skippy that Rodgers would, Brady would, even Rivers, Ryan probably Stafford too),

At a certain point, if you are the highest paid player on the team, and you think a deep play call is in order, and now I am guessing this has been the case often now, why are you standing by and not doing anything about it?

This offseason has to be working on play calls that fit the offensive pieces you have, not more of square peg in round hole. The offensive straregy must improve, not CHECKDOWN EVERY PLAY,

We became very predictable last year, and rarely used the entire route tree.

It was less a Flacco issue and more of an offense issue. Didn't seem like anything in the playbook called for a deep pass. Even on a last attempt to win a game with seconds left the team checked it down to Pitta. If you are going to blame someone blame Trestman. He used to play in an offense with Forte, Marshall, and Jeffery where those players are talented and physically gifted enough to run screens and check downs 90% of the plays and win those. Little did he know he was working with no named running backs, a 37 year old coming off of an achilles tear, and a tight end who has a wish bone for a hip.

I think giving Timmy a big deal would've been a mistake, even if he was the best damn DT in the league in 2017, Timmy strikes me as the type who will be the most frustrating person on the team for 3 years and then ball out in his contract year for more money, showing he always had the ability but only put it together when he wanted to get paid. and that's not a guy I want on my team. And if he DOESNT ball out in his contract year, then he's truly unable to stay consistent. It's a lose-lose to sign Jernigan.

And keeping him here is a one year rental, something I'm definitely not fond of. If we aren't going to be winning it all this year with Timmy playing a major role, and he won't be back the following year, then get some compensation for him. This is the kind of move that makes bellichick a genius, but when we do it for a completely average player who produces more penalty yardage than he does sack/TFL yardage it's horrible? I don't get it.

I liked Jernigan personally, but im not vastly overrating him like so many are. Based on the reactions I'd say Jernigan just may have been the most overrated Ravens defender

He really was and to be honest I think a lot of us fell in love with his pass rushing ceililng rather than his actual production. He is very inconsistent. I think it is better for this team if they keep a guy who has solidified the Ravens running defense since Ngata rather than a guy who has struggled to stay on the field because of inconsistent production. The defense took a step back the day the Ravens traded him away in sack production, but in the long run it was the safer option and as of now the better option as of today. Next year we may be thinking otherwise.

The 2012 Superbowl Champion Ravens was in large part a team that was 13-3 in 2006 before Harbs and Flacco, close to winning the Division in 2008, won the division in 2011 and 2012. This is not that team.
This is a team that missed 3 out of the last 4 playoffs and have not won the division in 5 years.

What they need are playmakers : Based on chance of availability
    1. OJ Howard –BPA if he’s there at 16. I doubt it though
    2. Mike Williams – Miss match, will win ball similar to Boldin, Evans, Benjamin, can make Flacco better
    3. Barnett – loss Dummervil, Suggs is older
    4. McKinley – speed rusher
    5. Corey Davis – route runner, size, RAC
    6. Peppers – If the above guys are gone, he’s BPA IMO, will always be around football
    7. Cook – home run RB, running and catching out of backfield

Trading back is gambling when you are already behind. Yes, the Ravens can play Steelers, Patriots, and a lot of teams close, but moral victories do not win games.

This is a deep draft so the teams already ahead of the Ravens will get better too. Stay put and select BPA. No need to wheel and deal with a team that has been 3rd in the division for years.

To be completely honest I know people say Howard is a generational talent at tight end but I have a hard time believing a tight end goes top 10. Maxx Williams was the best tight end in his draft class and everyone talked about him being a 1st round pick. I know looking back Howard is obviously more gifted and athletic, but I still think he will likely be there at #16.

I think Fournette is going to go 2nd to the 9ers, no idea why but just a hunch

I think if they are smart they go Adams. By far more talented than Fournette. I know it is a position that would impact this team more day one if they got Fournette, but I really hope they pick the better player in Adams. They should know by now it will be a 2-3 year process to turn that team around.

  9. Bold Prediction: Sidney Jones goes round 1. He was the top cornerback on a lot of peoples' list. Looking back Jaylon Smith barely made it to the second round, and secondary players are taken way higher than linebackers in today's NFL. The Cowboys knowingly knew he wouldn't play a snap in the NFL last season and still drafted him. I think a team like the Chiefs or Seahawks take the flier on him round 1. He will likely be back for the second half of the season as well.

I just don't know about a 6'4 FB if nick Boyle does make that change. Wonder if height factors much in that role or not

I think blocking as a full back is less of blocking like a lineman and more angles and reading where your plays are going and their defensive pieces are going.

I would be very surprised if Sidney Jones goes before the third round. With so many healthy quality db's available in this draft he could easily fall.

He is a top 15 pick and with how it stands now he will likely be back before the end of the season. He will miss 6-8 games but he is a top 15 talent. Definitely top 3 at the position I would say only #2 to Lattimore.

I can easily say a team that does not need a cornerback right away like the Chiefs or Seahawks can take him. They have the players to survive until he returns and would benefit greatly. I don't think he falls past 45. Especially when on the field he is a whole tier or two ahead of the round 2 cornerbacks.

I agree with what you said but to add to that he NEEDS a security blanket. Q doesn't get as much credit as he should of helping win the superbowl. Joe has the talent but he's to inconsistent. He's not on Ben's level, Cam I can see where there's a debate. As a passer Joe, what the quarterback brings Cam. Flacco really needs to work on his deep ball. He puts to much air under throws like a high school quarterback. 90% of your deep ball throws shouldn't be jumpballs when your receiver has a step. He's throwing to the player and not to a spot. Shotgun, he's a better passer playing out of shotgun than under Center. Joe can't read defenses that well. He processing the defense a little better when he's in shotgun looking over the line during pre-snap. Caldwell knew this! Kubiak run scheme help him as well. Joe seemed very comfortable because we ran first passed second. When he's on its a beautiful thing to watch. If somehow we can make him believe he's playing the Patriots every week we'll see a better Joe.

I disagree that Big Ben is on a whole higher level. He plays at a higher level because he has probably the best running back in the league, a top 3 wide receiver in the league, and a better o-line. This team has seen what Flacco can do when he has the right weapons. Not many quarterbacks will suceed in an offense that uses routes that primarily rely on YAC when their best target is a 37 year old coming off of an achilles injury, a running back who was cut by the Browns and a rookie running back that was injured almost half the year, and a guy who breaks his hips whenever he turns upfield and falls to the turf when he catches the ball.

I'm glad Marty is returning at OC that brings at least some level of continuity. With that said, they need to take more deep shots. That is Flacco's strength. Stop it with the curls and screens we do not have the personnel to do that. The offense needs some weapons and some protection.

As much as I want to hate on Flacco any level headed fan would agree that a lot is out of his control. He has played at a lower level the last couple years but you definitely cannot put most the blame on him.

Indy is going to pick oline. I don't think the GM keeps his job thru the draft if they don't build an Oline to protect the QB they gave a mega deal to.

They have holes everywhere. I don't think they pick Cam Robinson that high. I guess I could be wrong, I even had a hard time with the Redskins picking him that high.

I don't want to live in a world where we take Mike Williams over Corey Davis. It's really not even close.

I love Mike Williams' hands and how he catches the ball. He is a bully. Davis not so much but his breakaway speed is enticing.

Just wanted to point out you said Ross is the first receiver off the board despite Williams being taken a few picks before him. Maybe BC you switched him and Conley? Not that it really matters. Anyway I like all these picks for the most part. However I think we can get a better PURE corner than King- since I project him to be a better safety. Although I like his versatility. One guy I've really fallen in love with in the later rounds is Donnell Pumphrey- I know I've been pretty vocal about it too.. I just think we could get him very late in the draft and he can be a much better version of Buck Allen.

You're right I just re-read it. So I made the mock draft till like pick 23 and realized I didn't have Mike Williams on there. And I don't see him falling that far. So I had Conley at the Browns spot and then made the switch after.

My bad on that one. I have been on record saying I believe Ross has a good chance being the first WR off the board even though I see him as the #3 or #4 wide receiver in this draft.

Love Reddick. Part of me doubts we take him...would really like the pick.

Not crazy about third round. Pocic is anything but a mauler. He's athletic and smart but I wouldn't know where to play him. I don't think he's strong enough inside. He gets pancacked a lot and is not an upgrade to Zuttah....wouldn't surprise me to see the ravens take him, however.

Part of me took him because I have heard him a lot and he is decently ranked. Centers usually don't go high. I havent followed offensive line like I have in previous drafts.

I see how you've justified the Corey Davis fall but I just can't see him falling that far

I was thinking the same thing while making the mock, but looking at all other teams between the Ravens and the Chiefs how many really need a receiver? Most already have two solid receivers if not more. The Redskins take Ross which I personally think is high up but gives them that solid route runner and speed to help replace Deshaun Jackson. I wanted him to go earlier his talent is insane but I wouldn't be surprised with him being in a lower conference that it would drop him as well as not being healthy enough to participate in drills.
