The way I see it, it would be

                                 Webb

                   Weddle            Jefferson

    Smith        Mosely        LB        Tavon/CB

                                 Front 4

With Weddle and Jefferson playing the hybrid role depending on the offensive lines up.

In theory if that is what they are planning I would be ecstatic. Honestly I don't want to see Webb go. A top 15 safety in his first full year at the position. He is older yes, but he still has some in the tank. Would be nice to keep him. I do like this idea.

The thing is, I don't think anyone is mad about this deal if we aren't lacking cap and have so many holes... But we do.

I know the Ravens have failed to address the offense most the years in the franchise, but Brandon Williams was more than a run stuffer whether people thought it or not. His presence made other players' jobs easier.

Every team has holes.... Again what did the Ravens really lose from last year? A fullback, as much as I miss Juice and wish he was utilized more and still here, it looks like the team may be going away from fullback sets. A decent RT who struggled against the run who can be replaced by someone else cheaper later in the offseason.

Are we really that far off from where the team was last season? Yes they need to find a wide receiver and a lineman to replace Wagner but there is still the draft and so much left of free agency. This is only the first day the season doesn't start right now.

I wonder if they signed Jefferson to play that hybrid role? Think he'd fit the role? I've never seen him play to be honest

That's actually a good idea.... If they keep Webb. I have a hard time believing Webb takes a pay cut after being a top 15 safety last year.

  4. I remember why I never come to the Raven Talk thread in the offseason.... Everyone acts like the world is crumbling down after DAY ONE of free agency. The draft hasn't happened, there are still many moves teams will make, and this team will be in position to compete.

I'm not triggered. I'm comfortable with my opinions. I don't neg ANYBODY because I can't handle what he or she said. You love every move our team makes that is your prerogative. I don't talk myself into loving every move.

I don't like every move this team makes. Actually I've been quite disappointed. I felt like Juice should've earned a contract here. He is 40 receptions if not more out of the backfield and a consistent blocker. Sure he is a tight end but he could be utilized so much more. I don't like how much Brandon Williams got paid. I feel like every year that the front office neglects the offense.

But just realize that there is still the draft and a whole new wave of free agents and several are still unsigned from today. The world is not falling down.

Well, with the signing on Williams, these positions are still needs:

    Possession WR
    C
    RT
    ILB2
    OLB
    CB

Some more than others and maybe C doesn't become a need, but still a ton of stuff to hopefully hit.

I think RT will be filled by Alex Lewis. There are a few guards on the roster that can do a decent but not fantastic job. Urschel is one I would look to or a draft pick. Plus the Ravens may cut Zuttah and fill him with another offensive lineman.

Inside linebacker I actually kind of want to see what Onwausor does with it. He was a stud last year on special teams. If worst comes to worst the team can switch to a 4-3 and not have a void there. A cheap option at 3-4 outside linebacker is Connor Barwin who just got cut.

Team still probably looking into deal with Claiborne

Do people forget this is the first day of FA and there is still time after the draft where big names become cap casualties? Also draft will fill some holes. You can't fill all of them.

I don't care how great your Defense is. You are going to have to survive a shootout at some point in the playoffs. If you can't match points your done! Ask the great seahawk, Bronco and Texans defenses. Next year will be 3 rings in 4 yrs again for patriots. Who are marking bold moves after a championship.

Jefferson is a box safety. He is going to get roasted by the athletic TE's. His responsibilities were limited in Arizona who fronted a stud defense as well. But can't beat the great offenses with their noodle Armed QB and average offensive line

    Get triggered lol

bad decision by him - he can enjoy catching passes from kirk cousins for a year and then get stuck with colt mccoy for the end of his tenure - do you know how much was guaranteed?

No idea my buddy sent that to me earlier. I'm not even sure if it is 100% confirmed yet. Easily worst signing in the league if it is true. Makes me wonder if they plan to actually use him at QB.

Running this franchise into the ground. I would prefer giving that money to Zeitler or even Osemele than a dime a dozen run stuffer. So much for that great offensive line. So practice squadders are going to protect our $30million quarter back.

They say a great defense is better than a great offense. Team definitely looks to be in the direction of strong defense.

I think The Browns have been moving a little smart this off season . They offered Pryor  8 millon a year and he turned it down because he thinks that his market value is at 9 or 10 million a year.  No team at this moment is willing to pay that much and it's telling that other receivers with less production/upside  have been signed to  long term deals and he  still a free agent. Pryor agent for some reason believes his client has shown enough to be paid like one of the top receivers in The NFl but teams are playing it smart and believe one year  for a player to play at  the wide receiver position for the first time for a season isn't enough to warrant such a big pay.

So.... I saw a report Pryor got offered a 3 year deal $65 million dollar contract via Adam Schefter........

Did anybody else see this earlier? My buddies and I were laughing.

And they apparently are paying a QB 16 mil that's going to be immediately cut. Expensive rd 2 pick.

Love the Jefferson signing. He was one of my fave players in that draft and was very surprised he went I drafted.

Not really they had over $100 million dollars in cap space and they earned a 2nd round pick. The cap rolls over and chances are they will have plenty to roll over into the next season as well.

Wow. What a blow to the run game and already shakey O line.

Well at least it saves a roster spot for Allen for a few games... West has a four game window to prove he can be a work horse. Woodhead will be the 3rd down back. Seems like the players we need to step up always get suspended.

Jeffersons deal is 4 years for $36 million. That's a hefty chunk of change. What in the hell were the Browns offering him if we got him at $9 million per?!

If they offered a guard $12 million a year probably a lot...

How is it the Browns have +100 mill to spend, and the Ravens are always against the cap? Is it purely because they don't have an expensive franchise QB?

They're spending (recklessly) hoping that something will turn around their franchise. As long as their QB carousel is in full swing it seems unlikely that they will reign in the north.

You know there's a cap right? Money is tight in Baltimore as usual. I think we'd all love to acquire Marshall, Mangold, Zeitler, Jefferson and Claiborne whilst retaining B Will, Wagner and Juice. Heck, let's add Alshon and/or Pryor while we're at it.

The Ravens always field a competitive team so they are always against the cap, while teams that have struggled for years and years have had that cap space roll onto the next year and the next year and the next year....

  15. woodhead is a headscratcher, a lot of wear and tear, if ozze wants a RB like that he could've drafted mccaffrey,

jefferys signing is actually suprising, i guess u can call it a splash for the ravens. didn't excpect the ravens to do much in early phase of FA.

Or you get a proven vet who still probably has a solid two years in the tank from being in a limited role over the years for very very cheap...

And then you can use your 1st round draft pick elsewhere that would be more beneficial for the team long term.
