No - I meant all we ever give the offense are the left over scrub picks. Not that this was a scrub pick.
The thing is this though. There are still quality receivers on the board. Look at the Seahawk's last pick. It was a "nobody", but I guarantee that they picked a quality player who's going to contribute to their team this season. Recievers are flashy picks. And yes even I wanted a receiver. But as you saw in the Superbowl defense wins championships. We already have a solid offense with our upgraded O-line, upgraded receivers, solid running game (despite Ray possibly being suspended), and solid QB. Yes we need another young wide-out and O-lineman. But it will come. Right now we are bringing our D back to elite status. An elite D and solid O is what's required to win the big game. Look at the Seahawks.
I guess all that talk about it being time to build the offense was just that - talk - and nothing more.
Â
If we wanted to go defense with our 2nd pick - we could have at least taken a FS and filled a need.
Â
If I'm Kubiak I'm already thinking which teams I want to head to next season - one that will pay some attention to offense at draft time other than scrub picks.
Lol. Do you really think that was a scrub pick? Do you know how winning teams are made? Do you know how dominant defenses are formed? We just got a nasty player who's going to dominate in the trenches. That's going to put more pressure on QB's. That's going to make our LB's Mosley/Smith more efficient. And that's going to make our secondary's job MUCH easier as a result. You sound like a rookie fan man. We are building our own defensive dynasty right in front of your eyes and you don't even realize it.
I love how all of us on here are kinda shocked, because I'll admit I expected a WR. But because defense is so rooted in Baltimore's culture and DNA. Most of us are accepting of Jernigan and this pick. He's gonna make our D-line scary. And I hate to use this word. But he also adds some swag and energy to our D-line. Look at some of his highlights. He's a crazy man.
I like our pick just now. Again it's not sexy. But it's vital. If we want our D to rival the Seahawks then we need play makers at EVERY level on the field. We need fierce, strong, relentless D-lineman in the trenches (aka Jernigan, Ngata, Suggs, Dumerville). We need smart instinctive linebackers manning our D in the middle of the field (aka Daryl Smith, Mosley). And we need a solid secondary (aka Jimmy Smith, Webb, Matt Elam). Our D is going to be freaking scary this year, I'm not even joking. Manziel is going to be chopped liver.

I think it was a wise decision on their part.
Â
We'll see.
They did that pick to protect Johnny.
Wow there might be a TON of talent at wideout come our pick. Let me not jinx it..
Cowboys traded with Skins... Demarcus Lawrence DE to Cowboys. That helps us.
Eh I dont know. That pushes the Skins back right before we pick. And by that time I guarantee some of the best talent on the board is going to be at WR. That means there is a high chance the Skins pick a Wr that we covet right before we're on the clock. Â
Su'a Filo G, gone. Hes off the list
Yea he looks like a solid pick. Didn't think he would reach us anyway by our pick. I think we should go WR though. But you never know. We will see.
Yeah, saw that Browns news almost slam dunk they will take a WR. Thats why Im saying these guys are going to fast, if Ravens dont swoop one up they will miss out like they did on safeties.
I cant say a bigger YES. We either take a WR NOW or not at all. We need real talent and the Browns are going to be drooling over a couple WR's right now...
We need to get one of these solid wideouts with our next pick. Cody Latimer, Jordan Matthews, Allen Robinson, Jarvis Landry. We have so many options to pick from it's not even funny,
Let me take the names of those complaining so when this kid turns out phenomenal I'll see riding the bandwagon
Yea. I want to take some of these names for later as well. I guarantee the people complaining about this pick are going to be the first people on the guy's bandwagon when he's producing 100 tackle seasons year in and out.
Funny. Usually the picks everyone love, the player often fails to produce. And picks that aren't as sexy and people hate, those players tend to turn into HOF All-pro caliber players. I'm not making any claims just a funny observation.
We just got our own version of Luke Kuechly. A smart, quiet, good-character, fast tackling monster. Mosley has some similar qualities found in Patrick Willis/Luke. I want somebody who's going to be a leader and spearhead our defense. That's Mosley. This dude is going to have over 100 tackles next season I guarantee it.. And then once you see the type of talent we just got, all of you people are going to be jumping on the bandwagon.
I think you meant Jensen and unless they but him in at RT or KO hasn't fully recovered, I think the line-up will go something like: Monroe, K.O., Zutta, Yanda, Wagner (or rookie)
More than likely that's exactly how our line is going to look like.
anyone thinking this guy is playing anywhere but starting at center next season is crazy.
Yea I don't see this guy playing LG and especially not RT. This is our new center guys. And that's a good thing.
Thats correct. But you fans asked for someone better than Gino, and he was.
I'm sure until 20 minutes ago, nobody had ever heard of this guy, or even cared one bit about what he had accomplished as a Buccaneer.
Remember, it was Matt Birk (who according to many fans on here was the second coming of Jesus Christ as a center) was in the mid-teens in PFF rankings for his final two seasons as a Raven. Not exactly the dominant player that so many people falsely perceive.
We don't need the best center, we just need a better one. And it appears we may have one right now.
Couldn't be said any better than that. Lets see what this guy can do. He's better than Gino and that's all that matters really. We can't have our starting center getting pushed around like a little child.
@marshal941 I don't know if you saw my earlier message, but you can quote others' messages by clicking on the time stamp underneath their name. This will bring you to the message board, where you can quote and reply.
Thank you for that info. I've been on this site for a couple years. And I never figured that out lol. Sad I know.
Some of you guys on here keep complaining that Steve Smith won't be a "long term" option. What do you mean by long term. The man is 34 years old. More likely than not he's not going to be in the league for another 5 seasons. Not as a WR. But if we can get 3 years(I know I keep using that #) out of him. I think landing him a deal would be worth it. Lets face it. We don't have any tough receivers. Steve would be a breath of fresh air. And hopefully he'll rub off on others. With an "I don't care how many times you punch me in the mouth. I'm going to punch you more" type of attitude.
Steve Smith is a tough receiver. Not afraid to go up for the ball. Doesn't drop passes. And he's PHYSICAL. He's a play maker. And despite his age he has another solid 3 seasons in him. He's the type of receiver/playmaker the Ravens need right now. Even right now he's still better than a whole lot of younger receivers in the league.
Here's the deal. We get Smith on a short contract. Nothing huge but a solid 2-3 year contract. The dude can STILL play and has a lot of gas left. He's a veteran and can teach our young WR corp a lot in a span of 2-3 years. The reason he was not as effective in Carolina is because he was literally there ONLY weapon on offense. So defenses double teamed him a lot and at his age that's rough. However that won't happen in Baltimore. We have a lot more weapons than Carolina and that's saying something. And the thing is we're still going to get a young solid receiver through the draft. I'll take Steve Smith, Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones, Marlon Brown, and Pitta ANYDAY of the week. And that doesn't even include our upcoming draft pick. Lets lock this man up tomorrow. It will help a lot!
Would love to have Mack now..And the Browns trying to be slick. Possibly getting Revis and maybe Watkins through the draft. They are building something over there. We better keep an eye on em..
Now can we PLEASE get a play making wide-out in the FIRST round.. Now all we need for our line is a new right tackle/center. We will get at least one of those in the draft with a decently high pick being second round at worst. And the other maybe through free agency..
Steve Smith on the Ravens.... I'm not even going to go there. I have no words to explain how awesome that would be.. "Ice Up Son" would instantly be my new slogan..
