I was asking for teams at the top of the league and you give me Tennessee?

Dallas in the 1990s? The Walker trade has gone down as the worst trade in the history of the NFL. I don't think there is anyone else who is interested in seeing if they can top the worst trade in history.

I've no idea what we could get pick wise for Joe, but I'm not so sure they'd be juicy juicy. We won't ever know, since we're not shopping him and I doubt anyone is pounding on our door offering the family farm.

I'm pretty much done responding to this line of thinking. My advice to you is, settle in for the ride for the next couple years and wish Joe all the best.

Speaking of the cowboys. Joe Flacco will surpass Troy Aikman & Steve Young in all time passing yardage next season!

This thread is so meaningless at this point of time really. Especially when Joe's going nowhere and coming off a terrible season or 3. I'm not bashing Flacco but you don't appreciate abject mediocrity not do you felicitate a 4 yr old act! You do that when he's leaving or retiring. That's the time to appreciate what good he's done for the Ravens and that is certainly not now.

Actually it's the perfect time...Ozzie talking crazy....

"You have to have two quality quarterbacks in this league to be successful year-in and year-out," Newsome added. "We realize that Joe is one play away from being injured. We have seen that."

Look, im a staunch Joe Flacco supporter -- but this thread is silly.

While he played really well at times, he was also a problem in quite a few games.

But, I trust the ship to get righted. Just not in a celebratory mood for an 8-8 season... even though its better than the 9-7 season and non-playoffs we couldve had by winning that last game. Much rather have the better draft pick.

How much does 2016 (1yr) have to do with his overall body of work? This thread is about his overall body of success (4/8 yrs)

All I am saying is that if we miss playoffs in 17' there are no more excuses to give. Clean house. We have had talent, but then let it leave. We have had poor player development and terrible early picks in the draft. Pretty bad in game decision making and half time adjustments. Which that is directly related to coaching. Harbaugh has to get the job done and find a OC or we need a coach with an identity and commitment to winning.

Billick had a good talent development system.

When push comes to shove, Joe can show up. The problems are many.

yes, sometimes the accuracy isn't there, because he is not good under blitz pressure. He is a QB who needs time to make the play in the pocket. i still think he needs a great QB coach who he can connect with. He has had a new OC almost every year, no consistency.

dropped balls are a problem, we need some guys with great hands as well as speed. Big plays to open the field would help.

Of course bottom line is, get in the end zone. Many times I wish we could get in the red zone. But then we need to score TDs.

Joe can do it, he needs help on both sides of the game, quality players and coaches.

Joe wants to be blitzed like all top 10 QBs. Now, Pressure with a front four is deadly as everyone else is in coverage....But that applies to Tom Brady as well.

Our best bet to make the postseason next year: 1) hope Pagano gets fired AND agrees to rejoin the Ravens as DC, then 2) Hope we can convince Kubiak to return as OC.

Otherwise, I think next year won't be much different from this year. Sadly, I think it's highly unlikely that we'll see either Pagano or Kubiak with the Ravens again.

what's his cancer status.....cancer can come and go and we don't want to have a coordinator that may have to miss time or worse case scenario no longer be alive.

I have always been a big fan of Harbaugh but the Patriots game was a big eye opener in terms of how poorly coached this team is. It reminded me of those intramural sports games I used to play, where you eventually run into that one team that takes the sport seriously. The one that has a gameplan and looks like they care a whole lot more. The Harbaugh Ravens, since Ed and Ray left, have looked like a team with no ideas just hoping to hang on. The offense has been reactionary - never proactive. As if the gameplan is to work around whatever successful gameplan the opposing defense has. Nothing they do presents a challenge for defenses. Outside of Kubiak, they don't even have a strength that could be called an "identity", let alone a gameplan ahead of the curve.

The defense is the king of unnecessary roughness, like it's a complete enigma how to play the game within the rules. There are botched coverages constantly. They look utterly lost when the other team picks up the tempo or finds something that works. And for some reason, their goal each game is to let the other team score just as time runs out. It's pretty much a given that any lead will evaporate in the 4th quarter, and the game will come down to a redzone stop or a big L in the standings. Every week I wonder what they could possibly be thinking, giving up the easy 1st down into Ravens territory to prevent the difficult touchdown throw, and - if required - subsequent meager 30 yard offensive drive for a field goal to win the game.

Every week Harbaugh talks about tough-fought games being a staple of "Ravens football". Why is the mantra of this team to be satisfied with being taken to the ropes every game? Why can't they close the door on inferior teams anymore? I'm just tired of this "We'll find a way" attitude. Whoever is going to coach this team needs ideas, not hope.

    word....Harbaugh got exposed this year!

Harbaugh got exposed this year. His specialty being special teams was a fail with Devin Hester not catching the ball often enough. shouldn't there have a been a guy telling hester if he should move, fair catch, or return it.

I feel his motivation speaking is not sustainable. I felt Harbaugh was needed in 2008 as we had HOFers that were tired of losing and he instilled/confirmed our culture. Now we need a guy to build up young guys. You have to switch your coaching style-up depending on personnel!!!!

So basically you're regurgitating what I just said.

If you give Billick great offensive personnel and/or a great defense, he will be a good coach.

That's NOT a guy I want to hire. And it appears he's not a guy ANY team has wanted to hire for the last decade.

personnel is important to every NFL coach! How many teams have an amazing development program? If anything during the Billick era you can say he was up there with Belichick in terms of homegrown players and homegrown coaches. Billick and the Ravens organization in general is a top 5 developer of talent and arguably top 3.

we just have not been good at developing certain positions like WR...but overall we develop a solid amount of talent.

So basically you agree that he's not a very good coach?

I mean what I'm hearing on this thread is that all Billick needs is a really great defense and a bunch of really good offensive talent, and he will be a great coach.

I could literally replace Billick's name with just about any coach, regardless of whether they even know anything about offense, and that statement would still be true.

Wasn't impressed with him as an "offensive guru" 10 years ago, and I certainly haven't seen anything to think I should be impressed now, especially when he's done no coaching since then.

They weren't the 90's cowboys. However, the lack of quarterback was the issue for Billick...we were just blessed with a great defense, but competent QB play as in executing his plan was important. McNair was competent and Billick got everything left of him.....if McNair was healthy no question we would have won it all in 2006.

13-3 with a broke down McNair. Yes the defense deserves credit....but harbaugh hit 12-4 a couple times with less defensive talent than the Billick era because Joe Flacco is a fairly competent quaterback compared to Boller and Joe Flacco has more arm strength compared to 2006 McNair.

1998 vikings were impressive...points record stood for 10years, period.

You want to see what an offense without talent really looks like check out some of those early 2000's teams.....seriously we went to the playoffs with Anthony Wright as the QB, kyle boller should be enough said....travis taylor the #1 receiver... lol...

seriously.....gave Billick a broke down McNair and it is spun into 13-3. Granted the 2006 defense was amazing with two shutdown corners, but I think Boller would have had mental lapses leaving them 10-6.

  11. 50% average...amazing!

2009- Rookie mistake with a middle of the field pass against the Steelers end of game to take the lead for the win.

2012- Lee Evans drops the ball

    2013- Superbowl MVP

2015- Pats cheated with eligbiles, cheated with not letting us sub and cheated with defeated balls. Flacco was out slinging Tom and the pats had to cheat to overcome two 14-point deficits.

Playoff Joe is the truth! If we can carry the man to the post season he turns into a HOFer!

Yeah I agree with you that Flacco is too inconsistent to count on every week but even with that, we still came within losing to the Jets or an Antonio Brown reach of being in it. Not a stretch to think that with one more piece we are back

true. Hell, I feel if Flacco joined the Raider tomorrow they would win it all! Flacco is a guy that can get you over the top!

And if Lee Evans caught that ball in 2012.....we beat the giants.

Should have always been here. Thanks Steve! You were a hell of a player, we will miss you.

he was a team cancer in Carolina many a times. He undermined Cam Newton and therefore was let go, lol.

Luckily we got the older Steve Smith and Flacco kept him happy with targets. Yeah, I generally like him as a Raven and respected him as a Panther....but dude was a team cancer one too many times. Way to over emotional with his teammates and damn near broke one of his teammates nose cause he couldn't handle being trashed talk.

it's like people don't know his history...this is funny to me! We got lucky on the Ravens but dude is a hot head and has been a bad teammate one too many years. Older age gave us a decent Steve Smith...Carolina Steve we definitely did not need on our team!!!!

We kept Billick post 2005 and we had missed the playoffs 3 out of 4 years fyi

Guess Harbaugh is due for 13-3 next season in that case.

However, 2004 and 2005 Ray Lewis was a victim of the Madden Curse (2004 the real year he had no interceptions and then the actual year of 2005 he missed half the season!)  so you can't count that against Billick! :

While Lewis’ season following his debut as the Madden NFL 2005 cover athlete wasn’t exactly terrible, the usually reliable linebacker failed to record a single interception in the 2004 season – the first time that had ever happened in his long

career. The Ravens also failed to make the playoffs for the first time in several years, and in Week 6 of the following season, Lewis tore his right hamstring, forcing him to end his season abruptly.

I think people are missing the big picture with this team to be honest. 2012 was a magical run but it was with an aging core who either retired or left to be overpaid in free agency. We have been rebuilding for a couple years now and the young core is starting to finally provide a spark. It is very similar to what the Steelers went through a couple years back where they had a couple 8-8 seasons and people were screaming for Tomlin's head. Then that young talent took the next step and they are back where they have been in the playoffs.

I know it has been tough but that is how the NFL is unless you have Brady or Rodgers as your QB. And as much as a playoff spot would be nice, Ozzie now has another chance to work his magic with a top 20 pick to hopefully add an impact player for us.

Steelers had a proven 2X superbowl champion in Big Ben...who got better as he career progressed. he used to read one side of the field and then take off tO run his first 4 seasons.

Flacco is kinda inconsistent in terms of carrying a teams.... so it's never a wait for the right pieces type of issue like Big Ben had. Playoff time I wouldn't take anyone over Flacco...but Flacco as a guy to carry a team to the playoffs with elite play every week I he can't do thus far.

Think it depends on perspective and what constitutes a "down year". If missing the playoffs is the metric, then you could be right. If Steve looked at the roster of players (coupled with injuries) from last season and tried to convince himself that we could roster enough talent in one offseason to double our win total to 10-11 wins, that I would say perhaps he's being a bit naive.

I know it was before the draft and I believe even before FA, but I remember Ozzie saying in the offseason that he wasn't extremely confident that a playoff return was in the cards, mostly because I think he saw the 2015 roster and realized we had a long way to go.

So it really depends on whether Steve really views this as a "down" year or not. I would think confidently that most coaches who go from 5 to 9 wins in a single year wouldn't be under consideration for being fired, but I'm sure its happened before.

Billick never got a chance to recover after 5 wins....harbs stepped in.

but billick as doubled wins after a bad season before...

    BAL 2005 6 10 0 .375 3rd in AFC North - - - -
    BAL 2006 13 3 0 .813 1st in AFC North

I expect Marvin and or Rex to be let go at the end of the season. If Billick can come back....we can probably get one of those two guys backs as DC.

1/2 the pieces are in place....

Rex may sit out a season and so may Marvin if he's fired this year as well. If Harbaugh misses the playoffs next year he's more than likely gone and Billick can make his grand return. Now if Harbaugh is gone at the end of the year...I think Rex or Marvin will be back as defensive coordinator.

After 2006 I had NOTHING to do with football except my Admin duties on another site after the loss to Indy.  After that season I swore to not let football take over my life like it had, I fed into the whole media Ravens/Indy playoff game with McNair and it was just not healthy and the team lost to then SB Champion.  I did my admin/publishing duties on another site, no NFLN no ESPN the only thing that brought me back was being tapped to be a moderator on this site.

For me the loss to the Steelers 2009/2010AFCCG annoyed me and made me a true Steeler hater because of the way the fans/stadium personnel played "Renegade" as McGahee laid immobile on the field  and boarded but again the team lost to the eventual SB champs.

I will never forget the 2010/2011 playoffs going in as a 12/4 wildcard, knocked off KC then there was the Steeler game on Jan. 15 --it sorta went down like yesterday ahead 21-7 at the half scoring off 2 turnovers Mendenhall turned it over then that bizarre Suggs hitting Bens arm as it was going forward ball on the turf and Corey Redding heads up picked up the ball and walked into the end zone. Ravens had a nightmare third quarter a TD called back from a pick six, penalties and dropped passes. I will never forget this game because it my moms funeral/memorial service we had the wake until 1530 then the crock pots came out and Ravens jerseys replaced formal clothes and we suffered through the game.  I became an avid Packers fan for the SB, thankfully the Steelers lost.

2011/2012 going in as a number two seed lost again to the AFC Champ the Pats and they lost to the Giants.

2012/2013  some AFC team name the Ravens won it ALL!

    2013/2014  Ravens DNC

2014/2015  Ravens went in as a 6 and lost to the Deflategate Pats in the Divisional round and the NEP beat Indy in the deflate gate game and went to beat Seattle.  It should also be noted it was the first time the Ravens beat the Steelers in the playoffs.a

Now the dark ages begin no playoffs for two years, we could be Bills fans 17 yrs, Browns 14 yrs Rams 12 yrs yes it sucks, really sucks to miss the playoffs it could be a lot worse.

    Sorry about your loss.

I was in another state in 2006 and we knocked the Steelers out of the 4pm national spot the last 5 weeks. I got to see every game at the end of the season....

2006 loved that defense. If McNair had some arm strength left and health left in the playoffs would have been an amazing season capped by a Superbowl win. 10years later that season still stings! McCalister & shomari Rolle shutting down both sides....Giving Ed Reed complete Freedom. Remember...Ed Reed switched to free safety 2006!
