Looks like the old record bid might get topped three times in this period alone.
Suddenly KO isn't looking so expensive.

If the forum mock is anything to go by I'd say they made the right call.

And that's why you don't have more stars.

Sounds like an Adam Schefter tweet. ![]()

Other thing I want to mention is that while stalling with multiple bids right before the deadline is an obvious potential issue, betting big from the start could fix this. That and a maximum number of bids per player could be a viable course of action if stalling becomes an issue.
I'm actually not 100% convinced this would be a problem to the point of unworkability. If you take this OL period for example, people want to know how much space they have once the DB period rolls around, or edge players after that, and if you drag your feet over an OL player that also limits your ability to be active later on. Though as you say, a maximum number of bids would sort out any timewasters pretty quickly.
6 minutes ago, rmw10 said:I'll take mine and @52520Andrew's idea public since this FA process seems to be a point of contention every year. I was hoping to present it this year but some timing issues prevented it from happening so the old system remained.
So here's a very basic, general view of our idea:
Instead of these incremental bids that simply raise the price 0.5 stars at a time until the end where it's all about timing, we wanted to come up with a system where you bid your max, or at least close to it, right off the bat.
To do this, there is no official "deadline" per se. You put in your max bid. If you're bid sticks after 12 hours (or another time period TBD), you win the player and there's no bid off process or any timing unless people want to play the villain at place a bid 11 hours and 59 minutes into your bid.
You can either play the incremental game and bid up slowly, and maybe it comes to a close, you lose, and there are no other players available. Or, you can come out guns hot with your top bid. If it goes beyond what you want to pay, you just move on to another player.
Any thoughts on the potential idea? We know there are still parts of the process that need to be worked out, but as a baseline, would this be preferred? I'd hope people would play this fairly and simply bid what they want instead of trying to play around with people.
Assuming this gets a couple of dry runs to iron out anything that needs to be adjusted (and there are people happy to monitor the system) I'd prefer to see this used. I think people wanting to have the cap space for future FA spells means not many people would screw around with bids so it wouldn't get drawn out beyond usability. But the main feature is that it rewards the highest bid instead of good micro-management.

Would it be possible to implement this starting tomorrow (or whenever the next FA period is)? It's hardly a radical shake-up so it shouldn't mess with anyone's plans, and it means the pre-five leader can still throw a whacking great bid on a player since they've got the bid-off rights guaranteed.
Just now, rmw10 said:@52520Andrew and I have an idea but it was too late to implement this year. Once things die down I can explain it in the CoCo thread, and maybe we can run a test for like final, final free agency or something.
You were telling me about that system last year and honestly I think it sounds a lot better. It's more about letting players actually go to the highest bidder (which is obviously the point of FA) than a high-stakes game of quick reflexes.
Just now, arnie_uk said:Essentially then 4 teams could be in a bid off. Be a bit hectic.
The idea is they'd only be expanded if Player B has the bidding rights at both ends of the final five so you'd still only have the two (three including the previous owner). Your idea sounds simpler though. More in line with the purpose of the final five too.

That's not a bad idea either. My idea was essentially if Player A puts 10 stars on Bismo Funyuns and Player B puts 10.5 stars on him seconds before the final five (thus getting the rights) and ends the final five with the highest bid then the bid-off rights can be expanded to include Player A (instead of cutting out the process altogether).
Just now, T3hRaven said:I've always found the lucky snipe before the final five and then outbidding on the person you had final five rights to during the final five particularly detestable.
I proposed a tweak a couple of years ago where there was always the chance for a bid-off (essentially letting someone else join the bid-off if only one person had the rights), but I don't think that went anywhere.

That trade was an absolute blockbuster.
Just now, JoeyFlex5 said:so how do we represent the stars in that column? dead cap? cap hit? base salary? cap gained?
It's the cap hit on the player's Spotrac page minus the dead cap. 1 star is $1 million, so if you cut Hingle McCingleberry with a $10 million cap hit and $2 million dead cap, you'd save 8 stars.
Just now, JoeyFlex5 said:working on the SoF and i noticed an error in my draft selections, it had me with pick 7.21 by default but that pick was traded to NE and instead i have pick 6.32 from them.
also, do we treat traded players as cuts in the SoF?
There's a group of cells starting at V27 for players lost in trades, if that helps. If you lose a pick in a trade you just wipe it from your list of draft selections and adjust your total players accordingly.
