I would be more apt to believe they were a team of destiny if they had to succeed in the face of real challenges like beating the top seed on the road in zero degree weather instead of having two cakewalk games in spring like temperatures at home. They had the post season handed to them on a platter. The ravens last year were a true team of destiny that ran through the gauntlet to overcome real adversity for the lombardi. Manning is just the sexy choice this season that is a cash cow for the league.
This guy wins mvp for playing with pretty much the same team tim tebow(who's not even in the league anymore) won a playoff game with (actually probably an even better team now).
I hate brady, but he carried his team on his back to a winning record, fighting multiple key injuries. THAT is truly a most valuable player, not the aging future hall of famer hired into a cupcake situation who runs the score up on weak teams to "secure his legacy". Yet he gets snubbed because mannings the golden boy of the moment.
Nothing about the broncos season makes them a team of destiny.
Exactly this. They're not a team of destiny any more than the Miami Heat are. They just managed to stuff a roster for a couple of years. They're a good side and all, but when Manning goes they'll be up to [you know what] again for quite a while.
Apparently the Hawks run a similar scheme to the Jags - who managed to force one of Manning's worst games of the year. The difference is that the Hawks actually have talent on defence. If the legion can hit (and rattle) both Thomases early and often, that'll cut back what Manning has to work with. I know there's still Welker and Erica Decker, but I don't think they can win a game on their own.
It's supposed to be around 40 degrees F. for the Super Bowl. So if anybody complains about this it shows that they have no idea what it means to play football, or what real cold is.
But I do reserve the right to complain about how the Broncos have lucked into warm weather for three straight matches. ![]()
I saw an article on NFL.com talking about how Danny Amendola of the Patriots could possibly be a cap casualty for them this year seeing as how Julian Edelman, who cost way less, produced way more for them and Amendola greatly failed to live up to the expectations his contract set for him as a Wes Welker type of player. I know it sounds stupid to ask this as he had a pretty bad season, but would anybody be up for signing him if he became a casualty? And can anyone explain to me how much money would the team acquiring have to pay of his last contract or would it only be the Patriots paying him the money from the previous contract? He showed some flashes but he is very inconsistent both on the field and health wise. If he can find a way to improve on staying healthy though, he could pay off with a more appropriate contract.
If he got cut (ie, was a cap casualty), my understanding is that the Patriots would live with the guaranteed money/signing bonus on his contract, while he'd have to negotiate a new one with any other team he chose to sign with. Although I do realise you basically need a PHD in accounting and an insane retentive memory to understand the cap, much less master it, so I could well be wrong.
Tbh, I wouldn't be a fan of the signing. I think he'd be too expensive for what he'd offer.
Not a huge fan of former head coaches hired in specialist roles, mainly because it's always a short term bandaid solution.
Ravensfan23 addressed that a couple of pages back. Rick Dennison's probably going to be the next man up when Kubiak gets a HC gig again.
Doubt yous all missed his sarcasm
Mine was sarcastic too.
What is this motioning thing you speak of? How does it work? Is it some type of new formation? Also how does a offensive player work out of different positions? I thought they were supposed to just stay in one spot and wait for the ball to be snapped.
It means we get to run go routes at different distances from the o-line. I'm excited about the possibilities already.
I like how Kubiak emphasized that HARBAUGH is the one who initiated talks and wanted to make everything work. Kubiak must be another one of his BFF
Dear lord, here we go again. ![]()
Jordan Matthews and Allen Robinson are my favourites now. I think they'll fit Kubiak's short game really well.
Anywhere I can watch this, was workings all day and night and missed it
It'll be on the site later today, like how that State of the Ravens video went up.
Holy hell, we are the Baltimore Texans.
We must lure Andre Johnson and Watt over
See if we can get Clowney while we're at it.
Harbs used the word "change" about 15 times!!! That is refreshing to hear!!!
Well, so did Obama.
(though tbf changing a political landscape in just a little bit harder than changing an offensive unit
)
went to bed thinking it was shanahan woke up to kubiak
Same here. I set my alarm to see if the OC had been announced and I was kinda surprised to see it was Kubiak. Won't complain though.
Casual highlights package for the press conference.
Well in to the guy who asked about his relationship with Jacoby.
"Offence starts with Joe"? Can't argue with that.
Kubiak should be a nice fit with Castillo, and Ray Rice will be pleased by this development.
Wonder who our ideal WR2 in this draft pool will be now.
I wonder what they'd do about play calls if Dennison became OC. Might suggest a shift towards giving Joe even more control of the offence than we're expecting.
I saw some one mention that The Ravens wanted to hold off on announcing who the offensive coordinator was going to be due to the Columbia Mall incident.
That's not a bad point. I know John Elway held off his retirement announcement to let the community process the Columbine shooting, so an FO holding off an announcement for a day or two like that wouldn't be a unique decision.
I think that's the way it is, and my guess is Harbaugh wants a guy like Shanahan who likes the ZBS to begin.
Which is exactly why I think the whole "will Castillo stick around at the OC's behest" argument is completely academic. I think we already have an idea of how to rebuild the OL and I think the interview process will factor in how the prospective OC meshes with that, and their own ideas.
Fwiw, and I could be wrong here, it seems Jokerraven's thinking of the State of the Ravens press conference a few weeks back. Like BmoreBird22 said, we'll see what happens when it happens and anything else is just speculation.
Source? Didn't find anything on his twitter
Saw it on NFL Live a few days ago. I agree it's weird he didn't put it on Twitter, but he declared it on TV so you'd still back him.
I can't wait to see this forum if Hostler is the guy.
I'd say that would be up there with the melt we had after the Broncos game in week one.
In my mind, if Hostler was going to be the guy, he'd already be there. I don't recall us fielding outside interviews when Rex, Mattison, or Pagano left.
Exactly. When the team first announced him as a candidate there was talk of him only being a token look at the internal staff (our own Rooney Rule anyone?
), and if that's indeed the case then it shouldn't be a surprise that he was announced as a shortlisted guy.
Then again, this second round of interviews is interesting. Schefter reported that we interviewed Kubiak, but the FO doesn't seem interested for some reason. I wonder what he showed that made him seem like a bad fit - possibly a high chance of getting promoted in a couple of years.
2-points from 50 yards out.....kickers would start getting drafted a tad earlier.
Our cap situation's tight enough as it is, imagine having to pay Tucker as well. O_O
I can see this forum melting over his contract too. ![]()

Forget that show, I'm watching highlights of our Superb Owl last year.
