IDK what "competitive offer means.... I would love to hear some numbers but I guess it is simply a little bit of a waiting game. I think we could keep MW- BW -RW, Ducasse and KJ and still clear cap space by letting go of: Webb, Arrington, Guy, (Z Orrs contract and SSS contract need to be factored in) . Letting Pitta walk, letting Kamar, letting Elam go and KLewis and maybe even Dumervill, and Sharece Wright. (and possibly Zuttah, JPowers and JHurst)
It doesn't matter what teams offer their UFA's. They will go to whatever team offers them the most money. Real simple.
i would hope they'd bring in another MINNESOTA player in QB SAM BRADFORD,if they decide not to keep him.
Bradford? How about Ryan Fitzpatrick, EJ Manuel, or some other loser.
Easy fix, get rid of flacco, save all that cap money and buy a bunch of players, don't need a half a-- qb, remember 2000, aka dilfer?
This Ravens D would be laughed off the field by the 2000 D.

It would be an easier fix if fans(?) posting comments had an understanding of how contracts/cap space work.
Considering Wallace is the ONLY NFL WR we have on the roster I hope they keep him.
Elam......A BUST that was BUSTED. Bye bye NFL.

Oh, they actually cover politics?
Lets keep it to football.
One rule I'd like to see when posting comments is for the people posting to realize when you write a short story we stop reading them after the first paragraph.
The Pass Interference penalty has to be changed to the college rule of 15 yards. There is no way a team should be able to gain 60 yards on a PI call. Half of the plays defended by the D Backs in college would be pass interference calls in the NFL.
A BUST BUSTED!
NOTHING left in the tank so I'm guessing the Ravens feel he would be a good fit. Pick him up after he is released at best.
Why not move Waller back to WR? He's got Alshon Jeffery red-zone size, and they only moved him out to TE last year to get around the logjam at WR. He'd have less blocking responsibility, it gives us more roster flexibility, and maybe even takes some pressure off the Ravens to find a "complementary" receiver in free agency.... It's a move that might make sense to consider, IMO.
Marlon Brown had size too, along with the WR we picked up from Seattle(Matthews) who had a great Super Bowl for them against the Pats. Waller is a JAG (Just another guy) We already have to many roster fillers on the team.
Title of the reality show....."Who Gets Injured First"
as amazing as it was to see Pitta return from 2 major hip injuries, he is not a long term solution for TE. we all appreciate what he was able to contribute over the years, but its time to find a new answer. currently there are just a bunch of clowns and over the hill guys in the TE meeting room. Ozzie can stock the roster up with as many choir boy, good solid character types all he wants. but its time to reload with some football players with attitude. no team in the league fears the ravens any longer, no one.
The Truth. OUCH!
So what were are other options at QB when the confetti was dropping down on the field in New Orleans?
Trade up in the 1st round of the 2013 NFL draft for... EJ Manuel
Or sit at 32 and pick... Geno Smith
Legends like Tim Tebow, Matt Casell, Kevin Kolb, Matt Moore, and Ryan Fitzpatrick were veteran free agents at that time
Or trade a whole bunch of capital for a QB that a team was willing to part with and let Flacco walk for a 3rd-round compensatory pick.
Or, sign Flacco to a long-term deal he earned.
Thank you.
Just to beat a dead horse as I am on record for saying there is no way in this world Flacco should have the highest cap hit in the NFL, here is a guy who has finished in the bottom third of qbs in the league for several years in a row. Bisciotti and Ozzie totally blew that contract by giving him an extension and pumping it up even more. The guy is stealing. He is robbing the ravens blind by taking that money. We are talking about almost a million dollars a touchdown that he threw last year. Ozzie needs to sit him down and let him know that he is destroying this teams ability to sign quality players by holding on to that money he doesn't deserve. He knows he isn't that guy and he knows he should be giving some of it back. The Ravens need to let him know that if he chooses not to take a salary cut that they will draft or sign a free agent qb and get him ready to take Joes spot in two years when they can finally afford to cut him. By then he won't be worth much and no one will go out of their way to sign Flacco. When I think of how Ozzie missed on Elam, Arthur Brown, Max Williams, Terrence Cody, etc... I think his biggest mistake as GM by far was the Flacco contract.
Gonna bookmark this paragraph and wait until you see how much Tony Romo and Jay Cutler get paid in FA this season, as proof to validate what Joe's value would be worth (plus inflation) 2 years from now when that happens.
Should give me a good chuckle. You can not seriously suggest that Romo or Cutler will get paid 24+ mil?!
You know what, how about a wager? If Romo or Cutler get paid in the same ballpark as Flacco (23-24,5 mil cap hit(!) for 2017) under their new contracts, then I shut up for the rest of eternity regarding Flacco's salary and admit that below average QBs are worth 24mil. But if Romo and Cutler both get paid less than 23 mil (cap hit) for 2017, then you publicly admit that Flacco is vastly overpaid for a mind numbingly below average QB that he is and stop defending his contract.
How's that, sound fair?
So what were are other options at QB when the confetti was dropping down on the field in New Orleans?
I'd say maybe keep Webb but only if you can restructure. All of the other above mentioned to expand our cap space.......bye bye. We have to start over evaluating our players. Have to do something different otherwise we are looking at 8-8 at best for the upcoming season.
If the Browns give up a first round pick for a backup QB, it will indicate that nothing has changed with regard to how their organization does things. Puts things in perspective when I complain about the Ravens. Sheesh...glad I'm not a Browns fan.
5 years away from being 5 years away
Cap space won't get better until we lose the huge contract we are overpaying our QB. We are a ton of pieces short not to take into consideration the players who will be injured as well and need replaced before the season is over. I have said it before, other great qbs have cut their salary so they can put pieces around them. Flacco has had two huge contracts now and has enough money to keep 10 generations of Flaccos in the moolah. It is time he starts being a team player from putting in the hours, to giving back some money so we can be competitive. If he doesn't then clearly he isn't interested in being a team player and in two years when we can afford to get rid of him, we need to do it.
Yes, when we are winning, then he deserves the money, but we havent had a winning season in 3 years so no way should he be paid the money he is paid, especially since he ranks in the bottom third of the league. Ozzie needs to sit him down and make him understand the score. You need to understand that he already redid his contract once. He doesn't need to take less. Get over it please. There are other ways to save money and that's not it.
So true. I wish people actually had an understanding of how contracts work prior to going on a worthless rant that makes them look stupid.
Bring back "Q" for a year. He'll "Only" catch 65 balls, move the chains, and bring that winning nasty attitude this team SO desperately needs. Really, if they are considering Cruz and other non factor WR's why not take a look at Boldin if the price is right?
To all of the above mentioned to give us all the extra cap space....Bye Bye. If we stay put with the minimal amount of space we have now get ready for another 8-8 season at best.
we've also seen some terrible damage he's done in the end of the first, and the second and third for years now. Those are the ones that matter the most. It's killin us and there's no denying that. Maybe it's time to give up some of those picks to move up in the first and get a serious playmaker. Like Sizzle, Ngata, Ray, and Ed. And maybe an offensive one for once. If we moved up in this draft, which I doubt we will, there are some serious playmakers that won't make it to 16, but will also be outside the top 5. Jamal Adams was born a Raven. Solomon Thomas would be interesting, and could slip to us. Fournette and Mike Williams look awesome. Those are just to name a few. Not saying we should 100% move up, but we definitely need to add some serious play making leaders. Sizzle is our last legend and will be gone after this year, if he does play. An excuse for not moving up for years now has been " Oh but there's so much depth in this draft". While we've made some good late picks that have barely kept us treading water, we've also made some killer(bad) picks with those "depth" picks and trade downs. Gotta nail the first and second round pick this year, otherwise we'll be right where we've been, for many more years imo
If we don't have those 4th and 5th rounders in 2016 then our draft class has one quality player. You could say nailing the top pick is most important and Ozzie has whiffed a lot lately, but if you're finding starters in the 4th and 5th almost every year then stick with it. Law of averages says you'll nail a first or second rounder eventually with a superstar and until then you keep your roster stocked by hitting home runs on late rounders.
Selling the house is so risky, you can never guarantee the guy you move up for pans out or stays healthy, and more often than not the traded picks put teams in a hole of mediocrity for years before they see success in the win column. Look how bad the falcons records were basically every year between julios rookie year and this year, hell the redskins could be doing quite well right now had they not sold the farm for rg3. There's just so much that goes wrong nearly every time a team makes a big leap up in the draft
Agree with you to some extent but if we keep tying to nail the 4th and 5th round picks for starters and miss on most of the #2 and #3 picks it eventually catches up to you. That's one of the main reasons we are a middle of the pack team heading towards another 8-8 season. Gotta shake it up on Draft Day and try something different.
I've got another great idea. How about we draft somebody with our #2 and #3 picks who can actually play.
We would like to have kept a lot of people the past 5 years. CAP SPACE is the name of the game and we have nothing left after paying "old 3 and out Flacco" the mother load. So we will just have to be happy with 8 and 8 seasons until Flacco and about 3 other OLD GUYS are gone. Maybe 2020 could be a playoff year.
In addition to the QB comment I made the other big piece of the pie is the Draft. Since 2009 we have whiffed on a number of high round picks and selected lots of roster fillers with the others. That has eventually caught up with us.

UFA's go to the team that offers them the most money.
