There has been a total of zero starting QBs in recent memory who have decided to take less money than the amount that was agreed upon at the time when they signed their contracts. QBs have shuffled their money around to give teams more cap room but they are still getting the amount of money that was offered to them in their contract. And really all that does is kick the can down the road. Joe is not going to going to take a paycut. It's really an unprecedented move.

    What a load of hogwash.

First, restructuring does not necessarily mean a player gets paid less. Converting base salary into bonus money pays the player the exact amount as before, just now some of that money is guaranteed. It's always risky for a team, but it's a common tool to lower a player's cap hit.

Secondly, plenty of QBs have done it. Brady and Big Ben have both done it at least 2 times in the past 5 years if I remember correctly.

If Joe's wife made 40 mill a year like Gizele was maybe he would look at restructuring like Brady.

Signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2011. Fact, Perriman ranked 20th in drop passes in the NFL while that undrafted guy ranked 121 and 7th on the Ravens team. With all these holes opening up maybe the Ravens can rent a offense for the 2017 season? This 2017 season is getting better and better.

Well, you would expect a rookie to drop more passes than a 5th year player.

The difference between the two is about 2-4 yards/catch.

So basically, Perriman can do more damage (and did last season) with less receptions.

    That's called being efficient.

I think you mean effective. Perriman is more effective than efficient Either way his draft reports said he drop a high rate of passes in college and now its starting to show its ugly head in NFL. John H not going to be able to cope with that this year. Jobs are on the line.

No actually he's more efficient also. Getting more yards/catch is being efficient as well.

John's job may be on the line, but Perriman's isn't, and John doesn't have a choice but to cope with the growing pains of a 2nd year WR.

Boldin is effective and efficient. Sign him in July.

29 catches for a 4th target WR. 33 catches for our #1 Pick. Hmmmmmmm

LOL nice try. Aiken was the 5th target, and he's been in the league 5 years, and he's getting outplayed by a rookie... to the tune of almost 4 yards/catch. That's how you end up with 170 yards less... with just four less catches. Yikes... that's bad.

And that's why he signs a one year deal in FA in a bad WR market.

You're gonna have to come up with something better than catches bud. This ain't a PPR fantasy league.

I know. That's why the Ravens need to sigh Boldin......In July

Good choice considering we only have one legit NFL WR on the roster in Mike Wallace. I could accept Perriman's mediocrity if he was a 4th or 5th round pick. Unacceptable for a #1 pick.

You will be having a different attitude about him after this year, give the kid some credit. He was injured his entire rookie year because our team was to stubborn to do his surgery earlier and when he was finally healthy last year and gaining confidence he showed he could be great WR for us. This year will be his breakout season with over 1000 yards and 10 TDs. He is the reason why we wont be drafting a WR in the 1st or 2nd round and be able to draft other needs instead.

I'd like to change my opinion of him but I would not say from what I saw last season that he showed he will become a great WR for us. We still need WR's.

I really like Corey Davis, but one wonders if Drafting two WRs in the 1st Round really wins football games? Especially when O-Line was an obvious weakness and we lost our RT and C in free agency.

It its Corey Davis then yes it is worth it. Have you watched him give tutorials to defenders?

  6. That awkward moment for Aiken when he slowly begins to realize his role may be biggest on the team he chastised for limiting his role the previous year.

Id take him but he is not the answer, id also take Boldin but he is not the answer either. Mike Williams is the answer IMO

Aiken or Boldin would work if you can get them to come back for small money. It will be interesting to see what Aiken will get. Boldin on the other hand will likely sign with a team that will offer him the same deal the Lions did last year. One year 2 million.

Hope we told Boldin that we'd like to have him back this season. Would love to have his toughness and attitude back.......not to mention the 65 catches, great blocking, and 6 TD's.

Keep letting those box scores tell lies to you...

I guess you can't wait for Chris Moore to "Light It Up".

So you admit Boldin is at Chris Moore's level?

I mean you referenced Moore instead of Perriman or Wallace or Pitta. Sounds like an admission to me.

Translated.....We need receivers. Guess you didn't get the humor with the Moore reference.

  8. I am 100% happy with this move I think its a great signing. Who says he actually going to start and yes Claiborne is just too injury prone. We don't need another one going down all the time. I still see them drafting a CB in the 2nd RD. IMO just get rid of Arrington and Watson bring in maybe Mangold and Zach Brown or Kevin Minter (either or is fine again need depth at those positions.) I think were going to see in the draft just pure opinion here but I think we see them have here Mike Williams or Corey Davis fall to them in the first round. They'll finally give Flacco a true blue number one. Then from there I see RD2 CB, RD3 ILB, RD3 (COMP) OL, RD4 Safety, RD5 WR (for more depth) and RD6 CB. they don't need pass rushers yet its too soon to give up or Correa Kafusi and Judon just yet they still need time. Remember this team invested 3 draft picks for the pass rush last year so I'm not really to concerned with that position just yet those guys need to have a shot first before we can just write them off. I'm thinking this is going to be a pretty great year!!!! GO RAVENS!!! INOZZIEWETRUST!!!!

I thought we were finally giving Joe a true blue number one WR when we picked Perriman with our #1 pick in the 2015 Draft. I could accept his mediocrity if he was picked in the 4th or 5th round. I agree with you on Judon as he can become a player. Big concerns about Correa. Getting Jefferson, Woodhead, Carr, and retaining Williams all solid moves.

  9. so many people hating on our offense, Flacco best passing year as a pro, we had the lead in how many games in the 4th only to have our DEFENSE blow it.
And in how many games, just needing a firstdown or two did Flacco blow it? Too many times. His passing when it counted was just poor!! Running backs couldn't gain 2-3 yards when needed!! How many 3 and outs???
That's why we need DEFENSE, because we can't trust the offense!!!

Flacco best passing year.....just needing a first down or two did Flacco blow it? We had the lead in how many games in the 4th only to have our DEFENSE blow it. I'm confused. Be happy we are improving things with good signings.

For those saying "Its only a 6th round pick" Adalius Thomas #186, Tyrod Taylor #180, these are Ravens picks.  Other players include Colston, Garcon, Antonio Brown, Tom Brady, Greg Hardy. There is value in the 6th, i would rather have an earlier pick in the 6th than a later, plus this way it cleared up more cap than making him a cap casualty.

Tyrod Taylor is a middling starter.
    Tom Brady is overrated.
Greg Hardy isnt in the league anymore because he has trouble keeping his hands to himself.
Pierre Garcon is a career sidekick receiver.

There's not that much value in the 6th. thats why its the 6th.

Tom Brady is over rated? That is the most idiotic statement that has ever been posted on any NFL team site. You should have stopped at the Tyrod comment.

The Raven's failure to be able to draft or sign a long term #1 Wide Receiver have been well known by fans, other GMs and the news media. This is nothing new and Ozzie ignoring it is just par for the course. Don't know why anyone is surprised.

You know how the Government when being investigated hires a special independent investigator and prosecutor. I think the Ravens need a WR independent investigator and decision maker. Clearly we can't do it in any aspect from the draft to retirement with the staff we have in the FO, we have missed horribly.

The Ravens need a special department solely devoted to analysis of college and pro wide receivers so we can actually be successful at doing something, anything in the way of signing a WR. They need to have access to a specified amount of the salary cap and act completely independent in their analysis. Ozzie tells them that we need 2 rookie and one free agent vet and then this department takes it from there and they get what they want.

Bisciotti has to do something at some time because this has gotten ridiculous. No other team is as miserable at signing players than the Ravens are at signing or drafting WRs. Can we get old guys who can fill in, yes, but how about a young, good, WR, that we can keep and will help Flacco to be more successful because they develop a rapport that last longer than 2 years.

the browns have been just as bad when it comes to qb's

Don't care about the Browns as they will always be 5 years away from being 5 years away. WE need to do a better job at selecting WR's.
I'd be ok with Perriman being mediocre if he was drafted in the 4th or 5th round. Can't accept mediocrity from a #1 pick.

I say Ozzie's surprise will be ...................... OJ Howard! Why?
    1. If he's available he is BPA
    2. Pitta and Howard would be big headaches for any defense.
    3. Max is a bust, Gilmore is a blocking tight end!
    4. We will save cap space by cutting Watson
    5. This is the next best thing to having a dominate slot WR which we need. Wallace and Perriman will stretch the field while TE's do damage in the middle.

    We shall see

    1. Not necessarily, and we have so many other needs. It would work better if we could trade one of our existing TE's, maybe for an OL guy.
    3. Gilmore is pretty darn good with the ball in his hands.
    5. I agree. If we have a chain moving TE, do we need a chain moving WR?

i was actually talking with a buddy of mine about the possibility of the front office trading one of the te's for a pick or o-lineman

I don't see any of our TEs having trade value.

True. If we traded a TE we would receive a 7th round pick(maybe)

    -1

  13. I bet Ozzie's gut still clinches when he see the name Anquan Boldin. We did him wrong to say the least, especially after what he did for us. Doubt he would ever come back, but we would love it if he did. He'd fill a huge hole beautifully

AGREE! Great blocker. Makes great contested catches. Would be the best red zone target we have. If he would come here for the same deal he signed for last year all he could do is help. He "Only" had 67 catches and 8 TD's (See Red Zone Comment)

  14. I don't know why but I think we put too many eggs in the B. Williams basket and it is going to hamstring us quite a bit. Didn't we learn anything from the Flacco contract? Don't get me wrong because I did want the Ravens to retain Williams but at a reasonable contract, not giving a nose tackle a pass rusher kind of contract and not giving Tony Jefferson - a safety a top CB type contract. But, here we are and all we can do is hope they outperform their contracts unlike others that have received mega deals.

We learned that we had to sign Flacco after the Super Bowl.

If we can sign "Q" for around the same price the Lions did last season he would likely contribute "Only" 60 catches, move the chains, and provide a tough winning attitude.

Sounds like a weaker version of Dennis Pitta, who we just asked to take a paycut.

    I rest my case.

2 million and a slot receiver. Obviously a different type of player. Low money for a PROVEN WINNER.

Pitta essentially is a slot receiver. What position did you think he played?

In fact, they're not different types of players at all. They were both extremely inefficient catching the football last season. They were essentially the same player, with one having more volume. And no, I don't care about the # of TDs either caught, because that's a proven unsustainable metric with large fluctuations on an annual basis.

Individual football players aren't proven winners, especially at the WR position. He, like every other player on the field, is completely and utterly dependent on other players on the team to make him a winner.

Individual Players aren't proven winners? I get that it's a team game but I believe Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Rodgers, Brady, and a long list of players would fall into the category of proven winners.
