I think he was simply taking up for Harbaugh.  Which I agree with him on.  There's a reason that Payton is on the hotseat.  He's done no better than Harbs as the coach for the Saints.  Their defense is a whole lot worst than ours.  My nephew plays for them; and was set to start at Safety and tore his ACL in the first game. I'm much rather have Harbaugh.

Wow, rough break. I know it happens, but hope he recovers well and is back at it next year.

When year after year other teams keep picking off your top players coming off rookie deals and players getting big pay days, that says other teams still value the talent of the ravens....our GM has built more than one superbowl champion....my question is why the change of offensive and defensive philosophies when what has worked well for so long around here....the talent and scheme is not meshing, the philosophy has changed either we get back to what has worked in the past with Ozzie or we need someone new that can draft talent to fit the new approach we've taken. And with the 2 worse rushing teams in terms of yards and attempts in raven history these last 2 seasons it can't be denied that somewhere the approach changed

Interesting point. So you're basically saying we're drafting "old Ravens" type players and trying to fit them into "new Ravens" scheme. Square peg, round hole thing.  🤔

Harbs time is up. I think clearly the teams has stagnated under him and there are no signs that anything will change. Harbaugh doesn't have the answers we need, this roster has too much talent to waste away under-achieving for another year.

Harbs and Marty need to go. When something is broke you fix it. It is insane to keep the staff on board and expect different results next year. We're in for a repeat of 2016 with them, mark my words. See the writing on the wall and move on when the time is right, not when it's too late.

Ya think? Not trying to be argumentative, but DO we really have the talent or are we just assuming it's there and not being used or developed right? Maybe we have average talent that won't be better than average regardless of coaching.

I think we DO have some young talent (BP, Young, Dixon, Lewis, and a few others), but I can't help but wonder if we just assume others are talented because, well - in Ozzie we trust, right? I'm trying to think of players we "developed," then lost or let go, that went on to be really special somewhere else with "better coaching" and no one is coming to mind.

I'm not saying I disagree with your statement, just considering another perspective.

  4. Agreed. I suppose we don't know for sure that we didn't make any inquires, but if we did, clearly they weren't serious inquiries.

It's really a shame that this team didn't even bother to make any inquiries for a possible OC.  I mean what did he do to show that he could improve this team offensively.

He took over this offense in week 6. Overall there was no difference in play selection or creativity, and productivity.

Another sort of "myth" though. Yes, we are throwing to targets short of the line of scrimmage, but as you saw multiple times in the Bengals game, the expectation there is that the receiver will be able to gain the extra yardage himself. Unfortunately we don't have a very talented group in terms of YAC, especially without large space.

Tom Brady has made a living off YAC. He constantly throws passes to receivers short of the line of gain on 3rd down, and his receivers are put in a position to gain those additional yardage. There is no team that consistently runs 12 yard routes on 3rd and 10, because they realize that the defense is defending that boundary more than defending the player.

I would agree that if we don't have the types of receivers that don't allow for YAC then we either need to get them or stop running these players, but those aren't just third down issues either. The reality is that if all we did was throw 11 yard passes on 3rd and 10, you'd see a sharp increase in incompletions and interceptions.

Exactly.  I can't tell you how tired I am of seeing other teams execute in these situation yet we rarely do. Which to me is not just a player issue, but a coaching issue. Players need to execute better, but why are we continually calling plays that we have seen time and time again, our players can't execute. Either coach better, draft better, or play-call better but what we've been doing doesn't work.

There were some games certainly where I thought the balance was lacking in terms of us having the opportunity to run the ball more and just doing it. The Redskins game notably comes to mind.

But there were plenty of games where fans THOUGHT we abandoned the run, and we simply didn't. I think fans far too often just wait until the game is over, go to the box score, see that its like a 2:1 pass:run ratio, and then say "we didn't run enough".

Cowboys game is a textbook example of why that's untrue. People thought we abandoned the run in that game (mostly 2nd half), yet I challenged people to tell me where we could have run the ball more and nobody came up with anything, because there really weren't any other opportunities.

Game circumstances change everything. We're down 14 points almost immediately against the Bengals. Is running the ball a lot going to help us get out of that hole?

I read your post where you broke it down, and you were right - not much else we could do there. You're also right about running the ball not getting us out of a hole - but sadly, neither does passing 3 yards when we need 8. The frustration is that we can't seem to find anything that works, other than occasionally no-huddle (until Joe is intercepted in the endzone).

  7. I get keeping MM, but agree with other posts that if things don't turn around in 2017, we're cleaning house. As I see it, MM is a side effect of a bigger mistake - hiring Trestman in the first place. No Trestman, probably no MM. We make a different hire last year and we're talking about beating the Dolphins next week instead of worrying about next year.  Ahh, good ol' hindsight...

  8. What an honor to have him in a Ravens uniform, just wish we could have had him for longer. The man is a Raven, whether he retires as one or not. He was an inspiration to watch - not just because he fired up the rest of the team but because he proved that if you have the heart, you can be a difference maker. Not just in football, but in life. We need more people like him in the world. And with any luck, more like him on our team going forward.

I wish him him and his family all the blessings and happiness life has to offer. Eat the gallon and have fun in Disneyworld in September!

One more thing - I don't know what the "rules" are for being in the ring of honor but imo, he definitely deserves to be up there even though he was only here a few years.

  9. Everyone should blame me. I've had the jersey curse going for a few years now.

I bought a Ray Lewis jersey before the '12 season ---> he retires

I bought a Rice jersey before the '13 season ---> has his worst season yet and...you know

I bought a T. Smith jersey before the '14 season ---> has his worst season since his rookie year and leaves in FA

I bought a Flacco jersey before the '15 season ---> tears his ACL, ends his streak

No more jerseys for me. Ever. EVER.

Lol, yeah - me too. The only jersey I have left for someone who's NOT either gone or on IR is Tucker. Keeping it in the closet for the rest of the season.

  10. None of the stadium lots are fully under cover. Open flame tailgating wouldn't be allowed if they were. Some of the lots have some covered spaces where the roads pass over. Those spaces are prized and go early. If you must have a covered space, then choose a nearby garage and have a cold tailgate.

Thanks. So does that mean hot tailgating is allowed in all the stadium lots? I know it is in G & H, but how about the others?

  11. Taking the kids to their first Ravens game vs Jags. Working on getting a parking pass, but have what may seem like a dumb question...Are all the stadium lots under cover? If not, can someone tell me which ones are and are not? Since we're gonna have the kids, just want to make sure we're under cover for tailgating in case the weather is bad. Thanks! :)

  12. Steve Smith Deserves Better

    - Somewhat unrelated by it needs to be said. This guy is playing his freakin' tail off week in, week out in his final season and his teammates/coaches have let him down so far. If the rest of our team played with half of the fire SSS does we would be 3-0 these games have been so close. We fought so hard to send Ray out on top, SSS deserves the same type of passion and conviction from his teammates. This is his last ride, since he got here Steve's given us his blood, sweat, and tears.. rest of the team needs to wake up and play for this man if nothing else.

I pretty much agree with your whole post, but ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ +1000. SSS may have only been a Raven for a couple years but he's been playing like a Raven his entire career - just in the wrong city. The man is a beast and even if we can replace his production on the field, we'll be hard pressed to find anyone with his heart. Geez, the man puked in a can and then took IV fluids on the field so he could get back in sooner - who DOES that? The man deserves better from his team mates.

  13. Seems like a lot of money for a guy we hope never plays, but the Kubiak experience IS worth something - leaving it to Oz to decide how much.

I do wonder if Joe's 2016 cap hit was a consideration? Meaning, God forbid, he won't restructure and we lose him, we could more easily resign Shaub as a stop gap or someone as to teach a new QB the system? I dunno, as I type this, it sounds crazier than it did in my head, but who knows.
