  1. David Reed led the NFL in KR in 2010. It just shows that it isnt something unique to Jacoby. We have a great ST unit, so no it's not silly at all really. Doss was just as capable as a PR, in fact he still leads the NFL in Yards per return.

Jones is absolutely not a reliable or consistent threat at WR, don't be delusional. One game doesn't mean he is now some kind of breakout player. Remember against the Vikings when he let a ball bounce off of him for an INT? He is not a polished WR at all, and after 7 years in the league that is probably not going to change.

So why isn't David Reed still on the Team? For the same reason Doss will be gone after the season.  They both are unreliable as a KR or WR and they have low football IQs. They both failed miserably at key points in games, so their other "good" plays are really irrelevant.

Think what you want, but Jones is a prime example of a "dog learning new tricks" and he will continue to improve as WR. It would seem that's apparent to everyone but you.

  2. He's clearly one of the best returner's in the league, but it's not like he is the best KR or only player in the league capable of making plays in ST. Our blocking has been exceptional and he has taken advantage, just like we have seen form David Reed, Webb, and Doss in the past. There have been over 20 ST returns for TDs this season coming from lots of different return men, so let's not pretend that Jones is the only guy capable.

He's not a consistent threat on offense either, so it just comes down to how much money. There are a lot of players who can equal or surpass his production on offense for much cheaper i.e. a draft pick.

We've had this debate before when you said Doss was just as capable as Jones and I have no desire to rehash that nonsense.(David Reed? really?) And saying that a "draft pick" could just step in and do the same is speculative at best, and to be frank, just silly.

Jones is improving as a WR each week and has become a reliable, consistent threat on offense while developing a chemistry with Joe(did you watch the lions game?). We should do what we can to keep him. I'm not saying we break the bank, but there's a lot to be said for consistency and not just feeding new receivers into the mix year after year.

For some reason you just don't like the guy and that's fine. But don't try to discount what he has accomplished in his short time with this Team.

  3. Thats interesting.

In case anyone has lost track, without Jacoby Jones it would be very easy to make a case that we lose the last 3 games we won.

At Detroit his late Kickoff Return and Clutch catch on the winning Field Goal Drive.  There were earlier great returns as well.

Vs Minnesota, Do the Raven's even get to the last winning series without his Kickoff Return for TD?  Maybe, Maybe not.

vs Pittsburgh, Jacoby's certain T.D. is cheated away from us by Tomlin, but the field goal becomes the difference in the game.

You have to hope our Front Office is tuned into what is making a difference, but considering

their recent record there is no guarantee of that.

Add in the SB and you have production that would be very hard to replace. I just don't get how some think JJs are a dime a dozen.

I'm sure the FO is "tuned in", but they have the difficult job of getting the best value out of the allotted cap dollars.

  4. Don't mess with the love.

Just watched a replay of the big game vs the Lions.  On 3rd and 15 Flacco threw a high bullet that only he can throw.  It was intended for Jacoby Jones, who had made himself open again.  It as high and sailing. It was coming with extreme velocity.  Jones went up and snagged it. It set the Ravens up for the Game winning field goal.  This was after an outstanding Kick Return by Jones as well.

Jacoby returned to the huddle with a determined sneer on his face.  He stalked his way quickly into the huddle. Flacco greeted Jones return with a head to head butt. It was respect, appreciation and love without a single word exchanged.

When this season is over, this front office better not tamper with this chemistry. They better have learned their lesson.

"....it was coming with extreme velocity". Luv it!

  5. Maybe not a popular opinion, but I hope we find a way to keep him. It seems that he and Joe are developing a connection and not just on the long ball. We've got to stop the WR revolving door for a couple of years and gain some stability in the passing game.

Dragonfly is THE X Factor on this squad.

Checking in on this and I see opinion is swaying.

I think JJ will continue on his upswing as a WR, but with that may come interest from others. I just continue to hope we can get him back at a reasonable price.

  6. It seems like everyone is finally coming around to what I've been saying since training camp. Pitta will get multiple years at 4-6 million. It will either be from us or someone else.

I don't think anyone thought differently.  The question in training camp was would he would ever play football again.

Edit;  Well I see there was one person who may have thought differently.

  7. Ihedigbo is coming back. As much as I want to move Elam over, the teams loves Digs. He's a leader. He gets everyone in place back there. I honestly do not see us trying to get anything but a backup FS at all.

I think you're right. At 30, he probably has a good 3 or 4 years left in the tank. He fits well with the Team and shouldn't be overly expensive.

  8. I just watched the Joe Flacco Sound FX from last week and after his TD to Jones, Flacco goes "he actually caught the ball with his hands"...I think i almost fell out of my seat laughing.

Saw the same but didn't break out in laughter, just a smirk. I had the thought that Joe is excited that Jacoby has improved and is on the field with him.

Pretty cool to see a 7th year receiver develop into something most thought he couldn't be, an everyday dependable receiving threat.

  9. We certainly don't need to keep him at his current price tag. You think he will come back for less?

Don't know what the "right price" is or will be, but I hope they find it.  Starting over every year isn't the answer. Before you know it we'll be sitting here in Joe's 14th season saying "if he only had the same group for more than a year or two".

  10. Not sure how some can't see the improvement in Jacoby's game and determination. He's obviously worked very hard at improving his skills and it's starting to pay off. If not now, by season's end it will be plainly apparent that we need to keep him. But as is always the case, there's a chance someone else pays him more than we are willing to. I hope that doesn't happen because it seems that he's developing a special connection with Flacco.

  11. Quote

He had a bad game. It happens. If you haven't seen his contributions to this team as both a PR and WR you are a blind hater.

Not a blind hater, just a frustrated supporter. I had hoped he had turned the corner, but it's not just one bad game, he's dropped numerous passes and is a fumble concern every time he touches the ball. He makes bad decisions and just doesn't have good "football sense". There are reasons he went unsigned for almost two months after we released him. Tandon was resigned because we were in a bind and he has contributed as an emergency fill in. But just like David Reed he can't be trusted and I doubt that he is on next year's roster.

  12. We don't go empty very often so fourth wide receiver isn't that big of a deal.  I don't think he's wrong in saying that.  I just wouldn't trust Doss on third down, at least right now.

Tandon is only here as a band aid. We cut him and "surprisingly" he was still available when we were down to 3 healthy receivers. It was looking like maybe he had an epiphany after his vacation, but unfortunately it's looking more like he is who we thought he was.

  13. There's no more upside with Jones. He turns 30 next year; we've already seen his ceiling. He's good for plays like we saw against the Jets but he's no more than a situational deep threat.

Regarding Doss, he certainly makes boneheaded plays but he's an effective returner and is better on short and intermediate routes than Jones. With Pitta likely back next year, Marlon hopefully taking a step in his development and the running game improving, Torrey will be allowed to go deep more often, lessening the need for a strict deep threat like Jacoby. Personally, I'd rather see a younger players with long-term upside battle to be the third and fourth receiving options.

Well, I seem to disagree with you here on both counts. Jacoby had an opportunity this year to step up and be an everyday receiver and worked hard to improve. That effort was kind of short circuited by Trawick. He's definitely now being used in more short and intermediate routes and has been effective. He does still have some issues, but I think he still has more than what we have seen. No need to expound on his kick return abilities, he's one of the best. I hear you concerning keeping younger players, but 29 is hardly over the hill.

Doss is another player(think David Reed) that has tons of ability, but lacks good football instincts. He's an accident waiting to happen. We didn't cut him for nothing(in his 3rd season?) and he's only on this Team because of injuries.

I could be completely wrong about both, I don't know.  It did happen once 6 or 7 years ago.  :P

  14. Letting Jones go wouldn't create much of a revolving door situation. Assuming Pitta is re-signed, Joe will have him, Torrey, Brown and Doss back next season. I'd rather see that group along with an early-round WR draft pick continue to grow with Joe over the long-term.

Had Pitta not gone, we wouldn't have missed Q's production as much.

Pitta has definitely been a key missing piece. Not having a dependable TE makes it much more difficult for the WR to find space.

JJ has improved and I think his ceiling may be a little higher than most here believe. At the right price, we need to keep him.

Torrey and Marlon will be here, but I'm not so sure about Doss.  While showing some value in the return game, he's proving to be who he was prior to being cut.  To go along with his butta fingers, he just doesn't seem to have good football sense, if you get my meaning.

  15. It put a huge smile on my face when Eric Davis of NFL AM said the following about a possible home for Ed Reed;

"The best new home for Ed Reed would be his former home; the Ravens!  That's the best spot for him!  That's the place where his voice carries.  His voice echoes the most there!  It carries the most weight there!  He has equity there!  And they would still listen to him and he could help that team."

Eric Davis went on to say; "Does anyone on this couch not view Ed Reed as a Raven?  Does anyone not believe that Ed Reed views himself as a Raven?  Going back into that locker room, this is a place that could deal with him.  They know his history!  They've dealt with his injuries.  They know that even if he is not full speed he can perform there!  And, that is why I say he has more equity there...than anywhere in the league!"

Davis is always a breath of fresh air in the stinky room of NFL analysts.

  16. Agree to disagree. Is he first ballot ? In all likelihood. Do I (as in me personally) think he should have the honor JO and Ray do ? No. It is just philosophical. you think they do, I think they dont. We move on.

  17. Yes this is true. It is supply side economics though, the greater the supply the cheaper the product. The less product the more valuable the product.

Not many will retire as Ravens. Nor should they. It is a career long investment and I have seen it among every Ravens fan. Two people we will fight ot the death for is JO and Ray. That is how it should be, they gave us all they had and in turn we make them icons not only on the field but off as well. These men are as giants to us and almost all of us given the choice between spending the day with JO or Ray, or the president it would be a no brainer.

Sure there is only two but those two deserve everything the community has for what they gave us. Ed Reed, Heap, Mason all quit and chased the money. I feel no hesitation in saying to this point there has only been two true to the core Ravens.

Ed was done, and the Ravens FO knew it. I'm sure they had no problem with him getting another pay day that he wasn't getting here.  Reed is a first ballot HOF and there's no questioning that he should retire a Raven.

Todd Heap was going to be released. His family and home are in Arizona. He was not chasing money. Maybe not a Ravens retiree, but most definitely a core Raven.

Mason  played the majority of his career with the titans. I agree that he is not a "core Raven".
