Similar to the Ravens offense, the Falcons offense was off the field for like 1 hour and 20 minutes+ before they got back on the field after halftime.

That's a major blow to any momentum right there.

This in no way was like the power outage, but I was thinking going into the half that they had not been on the field for a long time and wondered how it would affect them coming out in the second half. It took them a while to get going at the start of the game and now they had to start all over again.

With the quick three and out it looked like the lay off might have hurt the Falcons offense, but after their D forced a quick three and out they had a great scoring drive out picking up right where they left off in the first half. At that point they still had the momentum on their side and we're looking like winners. So it seems obvious that the extended time off the field isn't what caused the collapse.

They ran 5 times after the half, and had yet another nice run from Freeman in there.  Not every run is going to get you yards of course, but they had been running the ball real well up until that point.  The larger point here is the untimeliness of their choices not to run.  2nd and 1 when trying to run the clock and get at least a FG to try to put the game out of reach.

I thought they ran it 5 times after scoring their last TD? No matter. I'm not disagreeing at all that they should have gone run in a couple of instances, but overall the ratio wasn't bad. In the end poor execution for pretty much all of the second half is what got them. The missed face mask that would have off set the holding call that took them out of FG range didn't help either. But after the TD it was just just a total collapse on both offense and defense.

  3. While the Falcons defensive collapse is hard to fathom, their offense really did nothing in the second half to help them. Other than the one TD drive Ryan and Co. stunk it up bad and gave their D no rest time whatsoever. While circumstances may not have been perfect, I would have expected much more from the guy selected as the league's MVP and that stable of weapons. Even just a little bit of production in the 4th quarter could have put the game out of reach and saved the day for them.

I'd rather him take a sack than throw it away. It keeps the clock running and at that juncture in the game, you need to keep the clock running.

I think you are in shock or something. lol.  At that juncture you need to avoid the sack and score at least a FG and ice the game. You know that.

Ryan made some incredible throws (that throw to Jones over Rowe was gorgeous). That offensive line just crapped itself on third downs. Have to believe Mack's meds wore off late in the game because he looked like a totally different blocker.

I wish we had a Julio for 4 or 5 years, such a great talent.

Yeah, there was definitely more pressure in the second half, but hey, it was the SB. Couldn't expect NE to just lay down. Players gotta make plays when the chips are on the line and Ryan just didn't do it.

He is, but people are solely blaming him. He didn't blow a 25 point lead.

No way you could put the blame solely on him, but a little bit of clutch play from Ryan late in the 4th pretty much puts the game out of reach.

There is something really fishy.  The refs were laxed on falcons DB the whole first 2 quarters.  Then somehow out of nowhere they start calling penalties on them left and right every 2minutes.

    It's Flacco's fault.

Baltimore had the Maryland region for baseball for decades since the Senators moved from DC....which is odd that the team would be called that since DC actually has no Congressmen or Senators because DC is actually not part of the United States. DC stands for District of Columbia. Do we find it odd that our Nation's capital does not actually exist on land that is part of the United States? Washington, DC is NOT a US state. But, I digress.

Had to correct this bit of misinformation. Washington. D.C. certainly is a part of the US.    lol.   It was formed as a federal district that falls underneath the jurisdiction of Congress. And to state the obvious, every senator spends a large portion of their time living in Washington.  The name Senators made perfect sense.

I don't get this line of thinking.  The 2012 defense was average at best all year.  The 49ers are tied for the NFL record for most points scored in a superbowl loss.  Did Ray not inspire the players that played next to him?  And will we also ignore that players have come out and said Ray's words don't do much for them?  I know Flacco himself has said it and he was the MVP of that superbowl run easily.  Defenders have said it also, like McAlister years ago for example.

Harbaugh's team won that superbowl regardless.  Only 5 members were part of Billick's regime (Yanda, Suggs, Ray, Ed, and Koch).  And we're apparently going to ignore the injured teams since Ray's departure that were a game short of being in the playoffs (2013), barely lost the divisional round to the eventual champs (2014), and heavily injured (2015).  Let's also act like the Ravens never missed the playoffs 3 of 4 years when Ray was rah rah'ing it up all game long and in his prime (2002-2005).

Yeah, I think the preaching and such may have helped the young guys for a bit when they first came on board, but after a while thinking it just became a nod of the head and jumping around, but not really listening. I remember Joe saying once that he didn't even know what Ray was talking about half the time.

Ray Lewis was a great football player, but his motivational effects on the team were greatly exaggerated, not just by him but by others as well.
