  1. I'd assume most DIY's will already have most or all of those things...but it doesn't amount to much money if needed

Painting isn't rocket science; if you can read a paint can label, wash and tape off a car, adjust a spray gun and run a DA sander, you can paint a car with decent results (assuming you're not painting your car in your driveway), especially if you spray a single stage. First timers should just buy a little extra paint to correct flaws and lay down a couple extra coats, since I'd expect they will get familiar with color sanding real fast lol

Id like to see one of these paint jobs you're pulling off. lol. The point is there's a lot more to it.. Practice ! It can be done, but acting like very one can do a quality job is just wrong. Maybe you're born to do it...

  2. I paint my cars all the time. Not expensive at all if you do it yourself...about $300 for 2 QTS of basecoat and 2 QTS of clear. Another $50 on sandpaper, compounds and polishes.

If you dont have a spray gun or air compressor, can rent one for Home Depot for I think $100 for a full day...

So you can have a quality paint job with great paint for under $500...

I wouldn't say it would be quality job. Might look good enough, but with limited experience you're not getting a great product. If someone wanted to start trying though... hit up crazy rays for some practice parts. BTW.. you also need reducer, hardener , DA pads, masking tape , scotch-brite pads, tack rags, Flex agent depending on the surface.... there's really a lot to it if you want to do it right. Not to mention, the environment needs to be sterile or close to it. Also... if you don't want to get high as a kite... a respirator or mask at a minimum.

  3. Anyone tackle refinishing alloy wheels before? And I mean a full refinish with sanding pitting and curb rash, then wet sanding smooth, polish etc.

Yup! Sure have! what do you want to know? A fine rat tail file, a dremel, assortment of sandpaper, Jewelrs rouge , compound , sandable primer (self-etching works) . Also, a mother power ball with high speed drill makes things easier.

  4. While most of what you said here is true, you're not gonna see the money back. Not to mention I was more speaking on the painting of a car. To do a paint job properly (and I don't mean a $500 Maaco job) it'll cost thousands and definitely not worth it on a Cobalt.

Ohhh heck no! The paint is a waste of time, I agree. If it doesn't need body work, and you need it painted, Maaco might not be bad... but the normal crap respray they do is garbage . It also depends where you go. Some are good... Some are horrendous.

  5. No sir...you will not see that money back and if you plan on selling soon it would be a massive waste of money for items that expensive. To properly paint a car and change things like manual locks/windows to power is no small task. It would be thousands!

Not entirely true. It depends on the car really. Most of the time , in late model cars... the wiring harnesses/fuse panels.. etc are actually the same, when the ground work of the is laid out, they generally don't know what options the car will have. Granted, he'd have to add the switch/lock assembly. However, a lot of times the wiring is in place. A good place to start is a FSM (factory service manual).

  6. yeah that Anquan move is looking great now, isn't it?

Ozzie is the best GM in the league I won't deny that, but this was a mistake.

Now Jameel has to get healthy. Also if we don't resign Ed Reed I'm gonna lose it.

I hope Boldin bombs his physical on purpose so the trade is null in void, but it won't happen the man has too much integrity. We are really going to miss the veteran leadership we've lost.

You're ASSUMING it will be a mistake...
