I had Butler making the team, but it's not the end of the world. During the regular season, your top 4 WRs play. If your a 6th or 7th WR, you aren't playing on offense, just ST. So it's no big loss. He signed with Tampa over us because he has a better chance of playing. I had 2 problems with the cuts, first is Ochi. He looked good, especially coming from a small school. Imagine if he had more time to develop. I don't know why they kept Carter over him. Carter had his moments, but Ochi has more upside. Second is Brooks. Why would you keep Lewis over Brooks? Lewis is old, grades out as one of the worst Safeties, can't play ST, and would save you money if you cut him. Brooks is better, and he's younger, with an extra year of control. I don't mind losing Forsette, cause Dixion and West looked so good, but with Dixion hurt we are thin at RB. Bring back Ochi and Brooks and get rid of Lewis and Carter.

While I'm not a big fan of Lewis at all either, Cutting Brooks surprised me at first but I understand the move. They guy has all the physical traits to get the job done. But for whatever reason he just doesn't make plays. He also likes to go for the big hit over wrapping up-maybe he learned from Elam. I think that non-interception in that Lions? game-preseason, could've been the writing on the wall. I know it was just preseason, but you have to make plays. Especially if they are handed to you. All of that said, I'm still surprised we cut him. I would've cut ELAM before all of our cuts, esp Brooks. Lewis is a veteran back up, but he doesn't seem to make plays either. Ozzie is really testing my patience holding onto Elam though. The man cost us a shot at a superbowl imo.

Elam is on the bottom of my list too. I would have kept Butler on the PS but the Jets picked him up on waivers for their PS.

Extremely disappointed we let Terrence Brooks go...

You won't get far in the NFL as a safety if your covering skills are poor.

You also need safeties that can come down hill to support the run. Keep in mind Ravens won a Superbowl facing Luck, Brady, and Manning, with Pollard who was not a great cover safety. He intimidated guys coming across the middle. His hit on Ridley turned the tide, he put Gronk on the shelf on a couple of occassions. Safeties also MUST be physical. A young , physical safety like Brooks should have been retained over excessive depth at LB with Chris Carter or 7 CBs. Two ingredients that the Ravens had with each Superbowl team was a physical blocking FB and a knock out safety.

Our pass defense was not very good the year we won the SB. Pollard did have some impact plays in the postseason, but as the league uses more and more spread, pass happy offenses, I don't think Ozzie wants safeties on the field that can't cover. On a side note, I would say Pollard's hit on Ridley pretty much finished the Pats off, but it didn't turn the tide. We were already dominating the second half of that game.

Ravens were dominating the Patriots 2 years ago with 2 14-point leads and lost the game. Why? Patriots running free in the secondary and no one was making tackles. TJ Ward, Ryan Clark, Bernard Pollard, John Lynch all have rings and none were considered great cover safeties. They simply intimidated receivers coming across the middle and were sure tacklers. Brooks is not in the above mentioned players category, but he was the best tackler in the secondary. Weddle, Levine, and Webb will struggle to bring guys down in the open field.
I think the Ravens have a strong roster now, but teams will test our small safeties ability to tackle.

The Rules changed and brutality is no longer allowed (Refs own the game more than guys like Pollard and Reed). That twice blown 14 point lead game should be banned from Utube. That game also demonstrated how Bellichick and crew were at the top of their game. Pees should take blame for that debacle IMO

If Joe has a horrible outing vs Detroit, do you think Harbs will play him the last pre-season game?

IMO If Joe can't reach or overthrows his targets towards the end of his start, then I would believe Harbaugh would not play him in the last game due to his value and the PS player opponents spirit.  Injury is a word not wanted here  The O line is the center piece of this issue and I have a keen interest in their performance relating to Joe's effectiveness in game 3. For the last game I see Josh Johnson playing significant time. Its NOLA and that team wants a home win prior to their first season game

And who's the odd man out at rb? I just can't see it. Much more reasonable to keep 4 rbs than 7 wrs...esp since 1 of the 6 can return kicks anyway.IMO cutting buck, forsett, dixon or west is just not an option..they are all far too valuable. I feel for butler but he really doesn't bring anything to the table that Aiken , sss or camp does. All possession receivers with reliable hands to move the chains. He's just not needed. Would actually make more sense if we did keep 7 for it to be Mathews- a tall redzone threat. It really does suck though BC believe me I like butler a lot. He will find a job somewhere.

I hope he is not a cut victim

Yeah I don't like the idea of him getting his first action in PS week 4. That is the most dangerous time of any NFL season. That game is 99% bubble guys who are trying desperately to make a name for themselves and possibly keep their NFL dreams alive for one more year even if it means getting on a practice squad. Id rather him start week 1 than play in PS week 4 lol. But the best option would be getting him out there with 1s and 2s who are gonna treat it as a dress rehearsal rather than a last ditch effort, he needs to get a taste of it before facing the likes of Ronald Darby in week 1.

Isn't Darby with NE   Buffalo wings are in town

Look at our Ravens fan base they are compared to the Redskins fan base. Its very tough to get a ticket to watch the Ravens,Redskins,Cowboys,Packers or even the Steelers. Also Both Ravens and Redskins fans travel to other teams stadiums and help sellout their stadium like they did down in Miami last year.

That Miami game sucked.  We gave them 15 points and lost 15-13.  Besides that, it was sweltering humid

This kid seemed so delighted to be playing football. All the naysayers out there respect his attitude and hard work and please don't focus on the past. Let's all just get behind this guy and help him excel by doing our part - be uplifting and optimistic instead of cruel and defeatist.

Your attitude is pure sanity  Miracles can happen!!!!!

Yes but you typically at least confirm this in training camp/preseason. If nothing else, you assume he's a starter until he's beaten out by somebody else.

But Perriman hasn't had basically any opportunities to show that he can even have a good preseason or training camp, because he isn't available.

In my opinion, you can't risk taking Aiken or Wallace off the field frequently just to verify that Perriman can play. Again, that verification, although obviously not definitive in the summer, generally comes with practice/preseason.

I mean, we can't even really know if he's better than Chris Moore at this point. The only assumption that can be made there is solely based on draft position, which matters, but is far from the definitive hierarchy on the depth chart.

When you then factor in the idea of how frequently we've "missed" some of our early draft picks in recent years, I wouldn't be so sure that the FO or coaching staff is really willing to start giving Perriman playing time without somehow earning it in some form or fashion. I think the additions of Wallace and even Chris Moore in some ways are a good indication of this.

A perfect world for me is having Perriman start on PUP, Wallace not being overly effective through the first 10-12 games, and have Perriman show enough in practice to overtake some or a lot his snaps by late in the season. Granted, if that happens, it could mean that our offense isn't being overly productive and we may not have a good record.

How many years do we have to keep him on the pup?

I like all you said but disagree with your perception of Wallace. Wallace will execute as he has a team to owe and SSS to play along with

8/18/16    O's hit the skid for a spell......This last series with Boston @home has been a disappointment for the team and the fans.  We can't produce runs and the pitching has faltered. th Orioles 6.jpg
