He beat the Steelers cause the safety that was backing up Ryan Clark (he can't play in Denver) blew the coverage. I make fun of Tebow because he's a bad QB. I don't see why he gets a free pass by so many people yet people despite not being very good. I'm not saying you're giving him a free pass but its common. I would never ever pick him over Schaub and I don't like him either.
Oh no id never pick him over Schaub either. Im also not giving him a free pass..I said he's not a great quarterback.
I do think that teams would be more willing to give him the opportunity to develop if the hype machine would die down a little bit. The circus that follows him and all of the attention has got to be a huge distraction.
I think he's safe. Keep in mind the reason Billick was fired was because there was a sense that he had lost the locker room. Harbaugh has made sure that hasn't happened in his case. I do expect a change in the coordinating staff especially offense.
With Billick, it wasn't because there was some sense that the locker room was lost. It was gone completely. Plus there was his refusal to give up hope on Boller.
Also, Billick was hired because of his track record in Minnesota with that monster offense. The exact opposite happened. Then there was the fact that the Ravens not only couldn't make the playoffs two years in a row..there were some really ugly 5-11's and 6-10's in there.
While the Ravens did have a little bit of a letdown season in 2013, they still finished 8-8 and we're playing for a playoff spot in week 17.
This year, they could have never in a million years fathomed that the season would play out like this. Starter after starter dropping like flys, all of the nonsensical calls that have gone against us, the balls that have both literally and figuratively bounced the wrong way..mixed in with some sub par performances from players who we all know are capable of much more.
Still, a few breaks go the other way and the Ravens are close to an even record right now..a few more healthy impact players..and who knows? Maybe they are making a playoff run.
We live in a society where SOMEONE has to be blamed in every instance, I hate it. If it's not the coach, it's the quarterback, if it's not those two
It's one of the coordinators, if not them then it's the GM..on down the line.
People need to relax and realize that no one coach or player caused this. Therefore no one person can be judged for it either.
At the end of the day, this team will have both barrels loaded next season once again, and we'll move forward. No reason for all of the nonsense
He threw pretty well in the preseason. Much more accurate than he was in DEN or NY
I hate that people make fun of Tebow, He's religious....I personally am not, but I don't judge anyone for it, he doesn't get arrested, or KO his wife or anything that some of these guys do.
I watched all of the Eagles pre season games, I'll say this. I thought they should have kept him over Sanchez.
Tebow isn't a great qb, but he is also smart, takes care of the ball and takes what the defense gives him. That's why he beat the Steelers In the playoffs a few years ago.
What even happened to Matt Schaub? It's like he was putting up a ton of numbers, and Houston was a SB favorite at one point in 2012..then he fell apart mid season and never recovered. I've never heard anyone explain it.
smh at the people down playing Joe staying in the game after the injury. Obviously you have never torn anything in any of your joints. It's not just a "pop" with no pain, trust me. Â Many would have remained laying on the field and then been carted off into the locker room.
Dude seriously. I played Hocckey at a high level once. A nasty ACL pretty much is what ended that for me. On the scale of things that I've experienced that hurt...that one is definitely one of the worst.
or maybe tucker misses another field goal, the jags get good field position and march down and kick the feild goal to legitimately get the win. Or maybe he makes the feild goal then they score a touchdown on the kick return? The nfl is a cruel business and it's hard to win games when your team lacks discipline.
I don't believe the team lacks discipline, however they are starting some guys who just aren't good enough normally to be on this team. Lack of talent and experience I believe is the head of that snake. Also, these guys aren't Ravens. They are warm bodies to fill a uniform for the next month or so.
The answer is no.... Still no.
Another losing season then yes. He'll be on the hot seat.
And then he'll immediately get hired elsewhere when fired. Yeah no. I don't see him being fired this year.
Realistically, it will take a few in a row to get him fired. Harbaugh isn't going anywhere.
The small portion of people here questioning him are the few that were for some god awful reason holding out hope that the playoffs were still a miracle away. They are going through that emotional finger pointing phase. ..
Blame Harbaugh...because Justin Tucker's kick got blown by the wind from 50 plus yards...
Blame Harbaugh.... He lost control of the team..because ray made a speech so obviously it was a desperate bid to gain control.
Blame Harbaugh..his training camps are too tough so that's why Joe is hurt.
Blah blah blah.
I really only come here for a good laugh, because these posts and post-ers just keep getting more ridiculous.
He's not really a X/O's guy, isn't really a Defensive or offensive coach like a BB type coach, after the the infamous Mutiny idk if he likes having "too many" in the locker room. The fact that Ray coming back was the only way to gain control of the team couldn't have been a good feeling for the HC.
Where do you get your information that he's not an X's and O's guy? Because he wasn't a coordinator before being a coach?
He wouldn't have been hired if he didn't know the game in and out. Also the statement about having Ray come back to gain control of the team is a bit off base.
A team that has quit doesn't have a chance to win EVERY single game that they've played. Even with all of the missing starters, they play every game tough and compete down to the wire. T
They are losing those close games because they have a HUGE deficiency in talent right now.
If anything, Give Harbaugh some credit for having this team still playing to win,
To answer the OP's Original question.
No.
This is a season that not only has been just decimated by injuries from the start, but some terrible luck has also played part in it too.
Every one of our games had been within 1 score..that is historic. It also tells me that even with all of these players in and out of the lineup, the team has been able to have an opportunity to win every game they've played. If we we had all hands on deck, we are probably all but guaranteed a playoff spot by now.
Let's hope for some good things in the draft, and also hope Ozzie can find some quality FA talent to fill the gaps.
The core of this team is strong...I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an 11-5 turnaround like after the 07 debacle.
In a glass half full sense, now they are truly going to be able to evaluate some guys..those that are worth keeping will have that much more experience going into next season. They will also be able to make some decisions on who needs to go (Monroe. .cough cough. .)
I was laughing yesterday because some idiot "reporter" yesterday tweeted something hilarious that came up in my BR stream.
He said "Ravens may be a candidate now to trade for Kaepernick..Harbaugh connection"
WOW really? Never in a million years.
Moving forward, they are going to have to have a contingency plan of Joe isn't ready to start the season. If that's Schaub or someone else..I don't care. But they will need SOMEONE who can actually start for the first few weeks..and just hope the NFL doesn't lay down the gauntlet for us On the schedule.
Here's what I want to see.
I want to see Schaub play well enough to earn an invitation back this summer. We will need some sort of quality QB as a contingency plan if Flacco isn't ready to start next season.
Yeah, this win sucks. I feel no glory in it. I am not talking about a stinking draft pick either.
It came at far too high of a price. Flacco AND Forsette. SMH.
Flacco haters I am just gonna quote Tom Keifer from Cinderella,
"Don't know what you got, till it's gone "
As far as Shaub and the rest of the season is concerned, I still hope we win out. I still wanna see our players play their rear ends off. I still want to beat Pitts-burgh. ( am going to that one )
I am sure Joe will be fine. He is just THAT kid of guy. He will work hard, he will follow the doctors advise.
Joe will be back and he will be just fine.
No doubt.Joe is a fighter and he'll come back just fine.
Jeeze, look at Carson Palmer how many blown out knees has he had? They say that the repaired ACL should actually be stronger than it was pre injury so long as you let it heal.
Challenge accepted. I will shotgun a beer for a pick 6I dare the fan base to start taking shots for every Schaub pick...
When will he be able to practice again and stuff
If it's definitely torn he'll need surgery. He may start the season on PUP.
Heartbreaking. Heartbreaking for Forsett too. I'm going to puke when I see Schaub take his first snap.
Why did someone cover the beautiful Original pine floors in my house with 1/4 inch plywood and funky paint splatter pattern asbestos tile....whyyyyyy.
Getting this stuff up has aged me 10 years I'm convinced
I did this show with some blues band one time.
The guitarist had a Marshall amp that looked like it was used as a boat anchor.
This thing looked like it was beat up 1,000 years ago tossed into Baltimore's inner harbour.
But it sounded,,,, it sounded,,,,, completely amazing. So warm, smooth and sweet.
Never judge a book by its cover eah'?
That's awesome, you just never know! Or else you drop 1500 on a head that you are convinced is going to be killer, and it turns out to be total junk....like I did less than a year ago.
I've been beating this drum for a while. Webb is a perfect fit at FS.
Webb at FS would be a good experiment, that position is pretty much up in the air, there not being a real solid option atm. Probably wouldnt hurt us at FS anymore then he is now
I mean, he was a safety in College. I think he could do welll there. After all of his injuries, I just don't think he can stay with some of these receivers...I mean he's making a ton of money, may as well and if it works out Harbaugh looks like a genius..if it doesn't, it can't be any worse as you said.
I'm all for it.
I thought it was a troll myself lol. The retirement section he has does look a lil legit tho for obvious reasons. But then again I dont persoanlly think any of them will retire, even if one or two should.
I think it's 50/50 that Smithy will retire. He's such a fierce competitor that I doubt he wants to go out like this..so him coming back for one more tryear wouldn't surprise me.
Suggs-Will be back.
Pitta-I'm actually hoping for his own sake that he retires. Blowing your hip out twice before you are 30 isn't good. I understand the competitive fire though.
As far as Webb goes- You are right, nobody is going to take on that contract because he is A)Playing like crap.
Once he finally gets over the last injury and starts balking out he will come up with a hamstring or an ACL or back injury. Dude can't stay healthy....Honestly..I think this summer they should try him out at FS..maybe that sparks something.
I hate when people try to downplay injuries on this team. Like, injuries do happen, but what's the contingency plan? Who steps up and are they actually a worthy player to replace the injured player?
For example, with Suggs...
Last year, the Ravens had a contingency plan because McPhee was one of the most productive pass rushers in the NFL. No, he wasn't getting a ton of sacks, but he had an absurd amount of quarterback hits and pressures. However, this year, the Ravens don't have McPhee just waiting on the bench. So, when Suggs went down, Doom was expected to take on a much larger role (the Ravens are really lucky to have masked his run defense deficiencies), but who was going to take on that Robin role that Doom once played? Is it Upshaw? He's a porous pass rusher with reckless edge defending skills, likely to try to compensate for a lack of pass rush. Is it Z'Darius Smith? He's got fine handwork, but he's still raw in his pass rushing (his sacks have been coverage sacks) and his edge setting is invisible. The Ravens lost one of the best edge defenders, pass rusher and edge setter, in the entire league, but you all want to say it's no big deal? Are Upshaw, Smith, and McClellan really going to play up to that level? If your answer is yes, they should collectively play up to his level, I want what you're smoking. The Ravens had an immense drop off because even if Doom can replace Suggs pass rushing ability, who replaces what Doom did in that batman role? I don't see anyone else getting 17 sacks.
Not to mention that the Ravens are certainly missing Suggs vocal leadership. The Ravens have a lot of leaders, but they aren't the hyped up type that Suggs is.
Kendrick Lewis was nothing short of mediocre in Houston in his final year, which quite honestly, is looking like an anomaly. He's always had questionable tackling and his man coverage skills have always been awful, but last year, he seemed to show good range in single high, unlike the rest of his career when he was slow to react and get over the top. Well, now he's looking like much of the same from early in his career because he's slow to react, can't tackle, can't play the run well, and his man coverage is still about as bad as it gets.
Will Davis was a pleasant surprise, but he obviously tore his ACL and Webb is on the mend, so what did the Ravens do? Signed a player off the streets and played him after four days as a starter. That should just tell you how bad the injuries are, at this very moment. Sharice Wright was here for four days and he's starting, but hey, injuries are no big deal.
And I really hate the hypocrisy of this board.
"Pees is too conservative. He doesn't blitz enough." This year he's blitzing at a clip of about 37%, up 12% from last year (TWELVE!), but people are still going to give him crap. And it's no wonder the Ravens are giving up big plays. They're sending more than five rushers on 37% of their plays with players like Sharice Wright and Kendrick Lewis back in the secondary. Well now Pees is an idiot because he's not giving them the help he needs. But wait, if they play more in coverage to compensate for those piss poor players, it'll be that the three man rush never works and he's an idiot for not sending more pressure.
"The players play 12 yards off their man (exaggeration, big time), Pees must have no confidence in them." First off, Pees does not assign players how far to play off a player on a single play. That is asinine to think he'd draw up the coverage for every single player for every single player, especially with so many revolving parts in the secondary. No, not going to happen. Secondly, you all saw what it's like when Pees puts a lot of faith in his players when Wright was left 1 v 1 with Torrey Smith. That's simply placing faith in a player and no, Pees is not an idiot for it. Wright is an idiot because literally the only thing he had to do was keep Torrey in front of him and he got absolutely toasted. He bit so hard on the double move that I think his dentist had to do emergency surgery. That's not Pees, that's inexcusable on the part of Wright. But then he's going to shift more players into the secondary because people can't do their jobs and then he's going to blitz less and Pees will have no faith in his players and he's too conservative.
These narratives won't change. Most of you have an agenda against the guy. Personally, I'm tired of his play calling because at times it puts players in really questionable positions (you can see my other posts to know what I'm talking about because there's on glaring example I always use), but Pees has literally done every single thing any of you have asked (except move from the booth), but the players just flat out aren't executing. Seriously, I don't think it's the scheme anymore. When he talked about execution in all of his press conferences, he hit the nail on the head. He has literally tried everything and it is not working because the players are not playing well. It is completely acceptable to hold the players accountable. They do get paid to do their job well, so feel free to criticize them.
And as far as the secondary regressing, keep in mind Webb has the durability of a wet tissue, Jimmy is coming off a Lisfranc injury, and they have had four coaches (Pagano, Austin, Spags, and Hewitt) in five years. They have had the same secondary coach in consecutive years literally once in those five years. Think that makes a difference? I'd say so.
If you want to blame Pees and get mad at him, go for it, but make sure you're actually criticizing him for things he actually controls or for things within reason. Most of this thread is ridiculous.
THANK YOU
Here's the problem. 95 percent of people on this board really know absolutely nothing about football.
I've been saying almost the same thing ad nauseum for 2 years now.
Here's a good example for people to marinate on.
Greg Mattison..had a STACKED defense. He was WAAAY more conservative with play calls than Dean Pees..had a TOP 10...TOP 10 defense both seasons..why? Because he had a talented defense on the field who executed regardless of the play call.
Also you are absolutely 100 percent correct in stating that he has actually been blitzing more this season than last.
I would keep Trestman, imo. The problem I feel is we're not letting him run his own offense, we're trying to keep some of the Kubiak scheme in place. If we take the chains off of Trestman and let him run his own offense fully, he would do a much better job.
To me, this offense looks a lot more like his offense than Gary Kubiak's. I mean they are both based on the West Coast system..so there will be similar things. He HAS gone to more of Kubiak's outside zone runs which is the strength of our running game.
These coaches will also be fired.
Dean Pees and almost the entire defensive coaching staff.
Marc Trestman ( John Harbaugh will take over as OC )
There's no way they fire Marc Trestman. The offense, incase you haven't noticed has somehow managed to be in the middle of the pack despite having a practice squad caliber WR corps, and injuries at other positions such as LT and TE.
I don't like all of his play calls, but if you go to any nfl message board you'll see armchair OC's belly aching over play calls.
Even LESS likely-Harbaugh taking over as OC.
Also, Dean Pees isn't getting fired either. If the defense had all hands on deck this season, and they STILL sucked then yeah, sure.
Our issues on defense stem mostly from injuries, then there's some FA signings that haven't panned out..
Pees has had one hand tied behind his back for two seasons.
IMO is he Dick Lebeau or Rex Ryan or Domain Capers? No. Is he terrible? No.
There have been many many more times this season when he's had the perfect defense called, but they STILL gave up an easy big play. That's a lack of talent issue.
I'm so 50/50 on this game.
The defense did just enough to beat Philip Rivers last time out, so hopefully that's something they can build on this week.
Either way, I see it being anther back and forth game.
