  1. do people actually watch the full game or only the 4th quarter?

i simply dont understand why people focus on just 1 or 2 drives and totally discard all the other drives in the game.

if both the offense and defense play 10 drives and the defense allows only a FG and TD on the last 2 drives while the offense only managed to score on their last drive , people would still blame the defense for blowing a lead lol.

    makes no sense at all.

its like 2 people working togheter and having 4 hours to finish an assignment.

1 person works hard for the first 3 hours while the other only works hard for the last hour and when they fail to make the deadline the latter is gonna blame the other person for not working hard enough that last hour lol.

You are correct. I've been saying it for ages.

That 2013 season had much more to do with the Offense not being able to convert on 4th and 1 or less than it did the defense..

That bears game...We had a shot late in the 4th to win it, but we couldn't run the ball inside the 4 yard line, so we throw 3 times and kick the FG to get to OT where we lost.

That Packers game..AGAIN..If you remember, Flacco with less than a minute left before halftime got sacked and fumbled, giving the Packers 3 FREE points before halftime..we also got stuffed at the goal line on 4 downs..that's a 10 point swing folks because of offensive blunders. That WOULD have been the difference in that game.

Last season- Anyone remember the last drive of the 1st half of the week 1 Bengals game? Offense had a goal to go, couldn't do anything. .and Flacco ran around as the clock expired and they go zero points.

That is unacceptable. If there's one thing that drives me CRAZY about our offense, it's the mental errors. I love Joe and fully support him. .bit the stupid mental errors. .grrrr..

I'm not going to go back through every game..

They also don't understand that in many cases, the defense is GASSED by the 4th quarter? Why? The offense gets the ball, and turns it over or is 3 and out in a flash.

It's very clear, for the Ravens to succeed , BOTH offense and defense have got to perform. IE:When we manhandled the Steelers in the playoffs.

  2. Backups were bad.

First team offense was crisp, dominated the run game while Forsett was in, Flacco looked good.

First team defense was dominating, Skins couldn't move the ball until most of the starters were on the bench near the end of the half. Even then, they scored on a fluke and had a ton of balls literally bounce in their favor.

    Have no fear.

If this were regular season, we would have probably beaten them by close to 30 points

  3. Flaccos gotta be in with the VERY bad. 2 picks on, what, 5 pass attempts? Can't play much worse in limited action.

    I've gotta disagree with you.

The first pick was actually not a bad pass, Aiken and the DB were making contact, it got tipped up and right to their safety. That happens.

The second was a ball that just sailed.

It's not as if a linebacker read his eyes and jumped a route or if he made the wrong read.

I'd say those 2 picks probably wouldn't have happened in the regular season. Joe can get a little lazy with his mechanics and try to throw into double coverage when the games don't count.

  4. To the over zealous fans that just don't seem to understand that IT WAS PRESEASON, how many years does the same convo have to be had? The Loins were undefeated in the preseason the very same season they went 0-16 in the regular season. It's laughable some of the "analysis" I'm seeing.

It's laughable the way the Eagle fans and even players are reacting to this game. I don't wanna make it sound like excuses because the Ravens were beat bad. But it's pretty common for the Ravens to have a let down in preseason game #2. Call it the end of Camp letdown or what but for the most part this team seems to take their foot off the pedal in game two. There is no gameplan and while you still wanna having a great showing, it doesn't matter the outcome, you just wanna remain healthy.

If you go back and watch the game without emotion, you'll see that the Ravens offense got everything they wanted against the Eagles top D. Of course the ints hurt but the oline, even with backups, performed well. The running game did well and even the WRs were open. Of course Flacco and Schaub was off a bit.

This game wasn't as bad as the score showed, but definitely a lot of teaching points.

    Thank you.

I'd like to add that our front 4 was pretty much having their way with the Eagles Oline before the Suggs hit..no blitzes, Dumervil was beating their RT pretty good..got held a few times or else could have had a sack or two. After that, they were just running quick snaps before the defense could get set.

I also agree that the run game looked good considering who we started vs their 1's. We were just running the outside zone play to Yanda's side. He was mauling guys.

The Picks by Flacco are no cause for concern. Again, one was a deep ball that Aiken could have caught but there was some contact, couldn't get his arm free and it got tipped.

The second was a good route and decision to go to Brown on the deep curl, but it sailed. That's throwing off the back foot, which Joe will do from time to time.

That said, you still don't like to see the penalties and lack of discipline. We all know the Vets weren't thrilled to be marooned in Philly for a week, and they played like they just wanted to get back to their routine.

    Worth noting-

Before the game, Harbaugh and Kelly had quasi agreed to do this again in 2 years. How much would you wager that doesn't happen?

Also, Eagles fans still crying that Bradford got thumped a few times is hilarious.

  5. Considering that you're only wishing to play the sport at the professional level, perhaps it wasn't easy enough. Then again, I'm also not bold enough to compare heading to a normal job with aches and bruises to sprinting and cutting at full speed against elite athletes in a contact sport after spraining one of the four major ligaments in the knee; so we wouldn't agree with either of the two. There's a difference between being hurt and being injured, but that itself wouldn't do justice to the stark contrast between the two scenarios.

I've played contact sports at a high level not professional, but I was a step away when I was a youngster. Trust me, those guys have it made in the shade. There are plenty of professions out there that make Football..a kids game, pale in comparison.

  6. There really no game planing involved in preseason games whats really the point to have all this fast tempo stuff if all this game is about is to evaluate players.. Yeah some of the plays may have been predictable but what if Marc Trestman wanted to see how well our offensive line could run block or other things. You want to see all this flashy type play calling in a preseason game ? That's just not what The Ravens are going to do and they been doing this for quite awhile...

You say Dean Pees system is failing just like in the playoff game last year against The Patriots. Hmm the last time I checked The Patriots is the same team that had to use tricks plays and ineligible receiver trick play(it's banned now) against The Ravens to help them win the game. You don't do that type of stuff if the defensive system is failing... i really don't see why Dean Pees have to step up his playcalling or make his scheme more complex in a preseason game especially the second preseason game.

I'm not really concerned about the secondary honestly and you can't have elite players at every position.. You really think The Ravens are going to be able to find a starting number 2 cornerback at this present time? and what team is really going to be willing to give up a cornerback like that in a trade? Not many in my opinion. The only cornerbacks available with starting experience out their in free agency is Chris Cooks and Alfonzo Dennard

Lol people @ the panic over a PS game!

You are right. There was no game planning at all. I'm sure the Eagles probably did to an exten though. The Defense was just running base stuff. No disguised coverages ect... On offense, they were just running the ball mostly. Yeah joe threw 2 picks, but who cares? Aikens arm was hooked on the first and he just got too much air on the second. I think he saw a LB breaking over that way and put it high, just a little too much juice on it. It happens.

    Actually,

The D line was pushing the eagles around pretty bad until Suggs kept getting flagged. Dumervil could have had 2 sacks on the first drive, but got held big time. Williams broke through and laid a big hit. Suggs beat Peters and got to Bradford too.

After that, the effort wasn't there.

On offense, the running game looked good. Forsett had a few nice gains.

Remember this is without KO, and Wagner on the O line.

Score means nothing in Pre Season week 2.

The Ravens literally just go out and play.

    Also worth noting.

Harbaugh said that their communications were not working. They couldn't get calls relayed from the booth to the players..which is why you saw the defense out of sorts on the no huddle stuff, they weren't getting any calls at all.

  7. And that explains a lot of what we tried tonight. Sure, I was not happy about the interceptions, but this is the time for Flacco to figure out how fast his receivers run during a game when adrenaline is flowing.

The first was a good pass, Aiken it should have been a PI. You could see the Eagles DB hook his left arm clearly on replay.

The second was just over thrown. It happens.

It's not as if he misread the defense and threw right to anyone.

  8. Good to see Hank come through with one last night.

This team is proving to be resilient if nothing else.

They've fallen to the brink of being out of the race a few times then they get right back into it.

I'm maintaining that even if they moss the wildcard, they competed despite having a bunch of 4A players taking up 1/3 of the lineup for most of the season.

Hopefully we can re sign Parra and Davis. I'm OK with letting Weiters walk IF we can keep those two and Chen.

  9. Right. It really wasn't a drop, but Evans didn't wrap the ball after the catch like every kid whoever caught a ball in Pop Warner is taught to do. Worst play in the history of the team, no question.

I have to side with you on this one.

Catching the football is his JOB. This includes situations where a defender is trying to knock the ball out.

He had his hands on it, it was a PERFECT pass..and he allowed it to be knocked out.

Also the gravity of the situation comes into play.

Let's play some revisionist history here..

That throw to Evans would have gone down as one of the greatest throws in playoff history. The Ravens would have smashed the Giants in the SB.

Couple that with what Joe did the next year, now sharing the 11th 0int record with Montana, the Mile high Miracle pass, SB MVP....

Joe Flacco would most definitely be a hall of fame quarterback. Jeez, what if he had won TWO SB MVP's consecutively?

Worst play in Ravens history? Yes..by far.

Edit..now that I'm thinking here. .Joe is a few plays in his career from 4 Super Bowl appearances. Wow.

  10. Why is everyone so up in arms over a backup CB? IF Smith and Webb stay upright, he's 4th behind Arrington.

He performed about as well as you could expect him to in the circumstances.

Yeah he had a bad game...against TOM BRADY. .Melvin isn't the first young CB that Brady has done that to in his career.

You can chalk that up to him just being overmatched.

The good news is that he's got some quality experience now, considering the history of Webb and Smith, he'll probably get at least a start or two this year.

Actually getting a whole off season and TC of reps with the starting D hopefully will help him improve as well.

At the end of the day. .we've had worse 4th Corners...waaay worse.

  11. Just read an article on BR. Here's a blast from the past. Adam Loewen. Apparently, he was playing winter ball, realized that his elbow didn't hurt while putching, and went back to being a pitcher.

He's been in the Phillies system, pitching well in the minors, and just got called up.

For a short time he was going to be the O's ace-in the making. Until he decided to go to Toronto to be an OF.
