Sounds great! Too bad the board will be long shut before you can have a pic of them two together
Lol
I gave my gf a list of around 10 players before the draft started. I spent months watching tapes ans figuring out what would be the most likely outcome. She doesn't even know much bout football but she nailed it. Way to feel useless ![]()
I'm trying to do the same tonight.
I'll admit there's a few CBs I liked better and who might even be on board at #47, but it's a big truth that Marlon was likely the best fit for what our DC calls.
Also, happy for our secondary and for @BmoreBird22 who had been camping for the guy the entire post-season. The dilemma now is, will you change the avatar in these last days or will you stick with the good ole Jimmy?
Favourite 2nd round picks, in order:
#47: Lawson, Williams, Lamp, Wilson, K.King
I don't think WR is a good value here. I don't see JuJu in the same category of the aforementioned guys and it might be a tad early for Zay and Kupp. Although, I wouldn't mind a great route runner and catcher like the latter one.
5 minutes ago, rossihunter2 said:i just really want a pass rusher at this point - i know that's probably the same for everyone here but i maybe even wouldnt mind double dipping pass rushers in the first 2 days if we get one early and then carl lawson or tim williams or tj watt fall to 47...
Oh I wouldn't mind double dipoing at all. Harris + Lawson? Man.. Seriously? Now that we retained our run stalward Williams and will keep forcing teams to throw the ball, QBs better get that ball out quickly.
However.. Just a wishful thinking. We'll keep drafting players I'm not high on.
I'm getting ready to say goodbye to my boy already.

This is super bold considering we have only 7 picks this year ![]()
2 minutes ago, ravensnation5220 said:Well he wont have to play the run that much in his rookie year. Unless we use him to knife into the gap
Yeah true..let's not forget that even elite pass rushers like Von Miller or Cameron Wake play almost only 2nd and 3rd downs with around 70% of the total team snaps.
22 minutes ago, ravensnation5220 said:Why? Pass rushers are a commodity in the NFL and he has double digit sack potential. A+ character off the feild too
And let's not forget one thing. Harris is one of the few pass rushers who can threaten the edge. He has a goos first step and good acceleration. He even has room to get better with his hands placement and hands fight in general. He's a horrific run defender but his qualities as a pass rusher might offset some of those deficiencies and a team can still manage to maximize what he does best through the play call.
21 minutes ago, RaineV1 said:I think the Cowboys had a bigger impact in that regard. I just don't see him going in the top five because of the needs of those teams, and who else will be available. Though he definitely doesn't make it past the Panthers.
If we look at a wider picture, most of the best team last year had a good run game: Pit, Dal, NE, Atl..
I don't think Fournette should go as high as #4, either but with Jacksonville lacking useful weapons and the kid being a great pass protector as well it must be hard to pass on him.

After numerous balanced drafts, Ravens will draft a record low 2 offensive players.
I´m adding to this: Hooker will fall out of the top 10.
The former Ohio State SS is the only player in the top 16 since Kevin White (#7) with only one year as a full time starter.
The closest guys are Eli Apple (15 and 13 games in his last 2 years) and Arik Armstead (9, 11).
It might mean absolutely nothing but I throw it in there.
Half of my last year´s predictions were correct.. expect at least one of these to keep the trend going ![]()
Matt Miller is the one I end up agreeing more often with. Sure I also find DJ and Mayock pretty reliable but some evaluations leave me puzzled.
So, looking at ravens FO smokescreens: in 2015 Bisciotti "said that the team wants to take a corner in the first, spend an early pick on a pass rusher, and get a tight end and wide receiver in the third or fourth round. He backed Harbaugh’s assessment that the team doesn’t see wide receiver as an urgent need." (infact we were, according to many "sources" very high on Jalen Collins and Byron Jones. We ended up with a WR.
Last year they made clear we needed a playmaker. Which means either an offensive weapon or D turnover machine/leader. We got what looked to be "only" a top 3 LT.
Not saying we will do exactly the opposite of what we´ve been claiming, but it could be it again.
What´s a position we are currently set at? TE? Have to start to watch some Njoku tapes... jeez I´m getting hysterical.

Dede has basically 0 chances of wearing a Ravens uniform. Twice domestic violence. Nough said.
It's sad cause I think he was a borderline 1st rounder.
4 hours ago, BmoreBird22 said:I think the Eagles go corner.
Me too. They have 0 starting material kn the roster atm.
I'd be surprised if they go any other direction, just like Colts should most definitely go OL or RB (unless a player like Allen or Thomas falls but it's highly unlikely).
Since we've entered the smokescreen mode, a few days ago, and we've been linked to prospects like Robinson and Lamp I started to watch 1st round linemens' tapes.
If we ever went that direction I wouldn't be against Lamp at all, now. Very low, strong, square base. Great upper body strenght and doesn't overcommitt to the edge by opening the hips early. It's also the kind of player you want on a 3rd/4rth & 1 situation. He does have some few mental laps where he inexplicably leaves the outside rusher free and rather double teams the DT but nothing I would worry about. I think it's more a problem of communication with the LG.
I definitely prefere him over Cam but I have one doubt concerning the entire 1st round Olinemen crew. They've all played on the left side of the front 5. All: Robinson, Lamp, Ramczyck, Bolles.
I wonder what kind of an impact may switching side may have on their performance?
1 minute ago, DomMcRaven said:I love the reactions lol, The emotions run so high like the Game Day threads. And then a couple of days-week later, you see posters admit they slightly change their opinions after settling down from draft night.
Oh you're absolutely right too, here. People might talk themselves into liking a pick in the hope their judgement was wrong and that their team did the right thing. It's a sort of 'altruistic way of thinking' however. Even if not coherent I find it more sensed than cheering for the sake of cheering.
In the same measure you'll find comments like mine or some other posters' who didn't like the prospect and haven't liked the pick.
Like BOLDn says, forming your own opinion on prospects by watching tapes and discussing them on platforms like this one is a different level of committment, thus a different experience imo. It can be morally extremely rewarding but also very frustrating.
LOL here they come.

LOL This is SO true.
10 hours ago, DomMcRaven said:Don't you just love draft night? From the moment the Goodell steps up to the podium to hearing the chime is all suspense. Heck, that little pause that Goodell does before announcing the player adds to it. I hated when they show the prospect on the phone with HIS future team before the announcement was made.
We all do love draft night but we don´t feel like that "pause before the players announcement" it´s thrilling enough if you have no clue of what that name means. We just don´t want those 90 seconds of shallow Mayock´s compliments. We want to be able to understand if in the box we´re unwrapping there´s something we used to dream of, or that we´ll find useful, or that makes 0 sense. We might make our own mistakes, judging what we see but, coming draft day, with no individual opinion on those prospects it only looks like one weird lottery where everybody celebrates without knowing if they won or not. Not Christmas day.
Sorry if I used the plural
Watching every fan in the audience celebrate for whatever pick their team just did it´s weird. It just doesn´t look natural. I´d rather watch the instant reaction of every poster here in the draft section.

If you're refering to the draft order (1-32) and not the players' positions it's because it is easier when you get in the 20s range to keep track on how many guys you can still add. You really dont want to count them up again and again while posting and eventually editing.

2 hours ago, LosT_in_TranSlatioN said:1. Zachary Orr was far and away the most overrated defensive player on the team last year.
2. There is no way in hell we would have gotten anything less than a fourth rounder from Jernigan comp pick wise. Even with his inconsistencies, a player with his talent would easily command $6.5 million on the open market. Which btw, given that our cap situation is significantly better next season, we could have easily afforded to keep him. That obviously wasn't in our plans(which is foolish and I'll explain why in the next point), but the return absolutely SUCKED. If we had traded him outright for that Eagles third rounder and not given up our own pick, you would hear 0 complaints from me and I'm a huge Jernigan fan. In my eyes, that'd be a solid trade.
3. Sorry. But we picked the wrong guy. Timmy Jernigan was an inconsistent pass rusher, but was a consistently excellent run defender who fit the defense well and was young. I'd rather have a guy who is very inconsistent as a pass rusher like Jernigan, but when he's hot he turns it on, then a guy who only plays 80% of the snaps. Given that the nfl has evolved into more of a passing league, Jernigan's ability to play three downs makes him, at least in my eyes, a more valuable commodity. I know he flat out dissapeared at times, but it's not like he was getting any help either. If we had more of a pass rush, I think we would have seen more pressures and sacks from the man. He's not an all pro, he's not even a pro bowler. But finding a defensive lineman who can rush the passer at a decent level is harder than most people think. And we just traded away our proven/best guy. For pennies on the dollar.
4. Finally, the returns are idiotic. Timmy Jernigan playing next to two very good pass rusher is probably gonna have a season where he gets 6-8, possibly 10 sacks. The Eagles would probably be inclined to sign him again afterwards, for a sizeable contract but one that'd be well deserved, and they suddenly have one of the better defensive tackle tandems in the league, and they basically gave up nothing to get him.
I respectfully disagree on.. basically every point ![]()
1. I don´t think people here think Orr was an all-Pro worthy ILB but rather an overachiever, which of course made of him a fans´ favourite.
2. After the suspension of Ngata (and later on his departure) he should´ve taken over the DT spot but didn´t do well enough despite his snaps count increased from 28, to 50, to 60%. Way too inconsistent to be worth 6M/y in a team like ours (where that´s the money you can pay for a very solid DB, look at Weddle with 3.5M or Jeff with 5.5M).
Sure, someone else with an insane cap space would pay him that and even more but with the cap increasing and the 3rd round comps netting something above 10M/y I´d rather say there´s "no way in hell we would have gotten anything MORE than a fourth rounder from Jernigan".
You can make a case for us re-signing him next year but as I wrote in the specific Timmy thread we underestimate the amount of informations we fans aren´t given about our own players. He failed one drug test prior the combine, had some injuries (albeit not too manies) throughout these years. FO has a better take on the probabilities of him getting hurt or suspended soon. Only 2017 season will tell about this point.
3. When making such a statement make sure your point is backed up by the stats. Both Timmy and Brandon played exactly 60% of the defensive snaps. At this point the question is: do you play the inconsistent pass-rusher or the main reason the Ravens have been a top 5 run stopping D in the last years?
We all know how tough it was for our passing game. Letting Williams go would´ve meant putting question marks on what we used to excel, too. To me, the choice is a no brainer. BTW the best pass-rushers on each roster barely played more than 80% of the team snaps (you even have Wake, Sheards and others sitting on the 50-55% mark).
4. I had the same feeling about the return, at first. However, look at what players will possibly slide to the early 3rd this year. It´s basically like having a 2nd last year (depth wise). Sure, having one more pick is a better value but the Eagles are getting a player who´s hitting the last year of his rookie contract. It´s like they´re taking a gamble on a 1-year prove it deal. If he underachieves or something happens they just let him walk in 2018. They didn´t pay much because Jernigan, at this point of his career especially, is by no mean a guarantee.
We´ll again have to wait for the end of 2018 to tell whether our future #74 is worth the deal.
16.Carl Lawson/Derek Barnett
47.Kevin King
74.Cooper Kupp
78.Ahkello Witherspoon/Rasul Douglas
With so much talent at CB it would be great to double dip in day 2 in order to have a great starter and some quality insurance.
I don't think Kupp and Witherspoon will be there when we pick but it's not a crazy unrealistic scenario.
With apparently no ILB2 on the roster taking over for Orr who would play some great zone defense on passing downs I fear a TE like Howard and Njoku will give us troubles through the middle.
Other than this I would certainly hate my favourite guys going to our rivals.
The next DROY will be a day 2 CB.
After numerous balanced drafts, Ravens will draft a record low 2 offensive players.
