  1. Waller is a beast and will make the 53 man roster either at TE or receiver. I can't even imagine keeping Butler, Campanaro or Reynolds over this guy. At 6'6 and with 4.4 speed he is a potential TD machine in the NFL. He may end up being our starting wideout before all is said and done. One thing for sure is that he will get on the field somewhere and cause nightmare mismatches for any defense.
  2. This is a sad situation for the Ravens. Neither Brown of Orr are what we need in a middle linebacker. We will need Correa on the outside to play opposite Z. Smith. I dont see Dumervil or Suggs setting the edge any more and both may be pass rushing specialists. That's if Suggs fully recovers which is doubtful at his age. Right now I don't see how we are going to replace either Daryl Smith or Upshaw with a proven quality player. Letting Smith go was an unnecessary blunder by Ozzie, one of his few. The linebacker group is the weakest positional group on the team this year and clearly the weakest group we have had in 10 years. Fortunately the defensive line and the secondary look to be very good so maybe we can play more of a 4-3 type defense to cover up this deficency. I certainly hope Ozzie has a plan to hit the market once cuts start being made and pick up legitimate replacements for Upshaw and Smith. Correa may need time to develop as will Judon and Kaufusi.
  3. I think all the first, second and third year players in the secondary fro getting to play with Weddle. Unfortunately, even if they improve either Elam or Brooks is gone. I think they keep Weddle, Webb, Lewis and either Brooks or Elam at safety. IMO they will also keep 5-6 corners: Wright, Smith, and Powers are locks. Then the rest depends on how good Canady and Young look.
  4. I agree about the secondary. They should be very good . The DL is also deep and very talented. But I'm worried about the LB group as a whole. Lots of question....Will Suggs recover? Who plays next to Mosely? Can Correa or Smith set the edge and effectively replace Upshaw?? I don't want to see Brown, Orr or McClellan on the field unless they are much improved which is optimistic. Also Davis and Moore need to show big improvement in order to join the rotation up front. Also will Correa and Kaufusi live up to expectations?? Until these questions are answered on the field IMO we really can't be sure how good this defense will be.
  5. I won't be surprised at all. At the end of last year the secondary was playing very well. But the improvement by adding Weddle and Powers is HUGE. Plus Webb should be very effective playing next to Weddle at safety. Wright, Powers and Smith are a really good group of corners. I don't see Elam or Levine making the team since they are gonna keep Brooks for sure. PLEASE....I'm begging here, let the secondary stay healthy this year. If they do we will have a pretty good defense.
  6. you gonna loose a lot of games if that is the 4-3 you are going to run. dumervil and suggs are not 4-3 OLB. both would play DE if we switched. Honestly I see Smith and Correa at OLB with Suggs and Dumervil at DE and Jernigan and Williams in the middle when we play 3-4.This leaves Mosely in the middle and is a pretty strong front seven. The depth is the big concern to me. Guy, Kafusi and Urban can rotate without much of a drop off. Moore, Davis, Brown, Orr and McClellan all have a lot to prove as far as I'm concerned. A welcome addition would be the emergence of Judon as the type of pass rusher he was in college.
  7. I said this in a comment 3-4 weeks ago. We just have a deep defensive line with more quality players while we are kind of thin at linebacker. Correa will switch back and forth. I just don't see McClellan, Brown or Orr getting on the field much but they will probably make the 53 man roster. That leaves Mosely in the middle with Suggs, Dumervil, Smith and Correa on the outside. Maybe Correa can play in the middle but that is just speculation at this point. Judon fits in somewhere I hope but we'll see on that as well. I love our defensive line however. It should be a strength of the team barring injury. Williams, Jernigan and Guy are top drawer and the backups should be able to rotate in without much of a drop off. That being said, it's hopeful that Moore and Davis show a lot of improvement from last year and Urban doesn't get injured again. Kaufusi is a welcome adddition. The front seven doesn't appear as strong as last year but the secondary is vastly improved with the addition of Weddle and Powers. Overall i see this as being a better overall defense. What they really need however is a LEADER on the field. When Lewis retired we lost that and haven't been the same since. Candidates this year would be Suggs or Weddle but someone needs to step up and help the pieces gel so that whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
  8. Yea, this kid unfortunately is too brittle for the NFL. I wonder how he lasted in college?? I would just go ahead and cut him. Roddy White???????? This is good news for Darren Waller who IMO has the potential to be a superstar WR. He should easily make the team now but he was on the bubble before Perriman's injury. That should leave 6 pretty good WRs: Aiken, Wallace, Givens, Moore (hopefully), Waller and Smith. They should think seriously about Roddy White IMO.
  9. This is a really deep team and a lot of guys that played last year will not be on the roster this year: Juice, Elam, Taliaferro, Boyle, Butler, either Lewis or Levine and Campanaro to name a few. Richardson and Reynolds won't make the team either. IMO here;s why: Flacco, Mallett, Tucker, Cox and Koch Monroe, Stanley, Yanda, Wagner, Hurst, Jensen, Urschel and Zuttah. Williams, Watson, Gilmore and Pitta Smith, Wallace, Perriman, Aiken, Moore, Givens and Waller Dixon, Forsett and Allen..................27 on offense/special teams Williams, Jernigan, Guy, Kaufusi, Davis, Henry, Urban, Judon and Moore Suggs, Dumervil, Smith, Mosely, Brown, Correa, Orr and McClellan Smith, Powers, Wright, Young and Arrington Weddle, Webb, Brooks and either Lewis/Levine.........26 on defense. When you cut 7 guys that played for you last year it's because there has been a serious upgrade in talent and depth. I know it's very early but on paper this looks like a real deep team that could go a long way.
  10. Gilmore is a beast. Williams should make a lot of improvement in his second season and Watson is a proven pro. If Pitta comes back healthy they will keep all 4 and have the best TE group in the NFL. Given the speed and quality of the WR group, these TEs should be eating LBs for lunch every Sunday. We have never started the season with a group of receivers this talented. IMO they will keep 10 receivers, 6 WRs and 4 TEs. The 4 TEs I mentioned above as well as Smith, Perriman, Wallace, Aiken, Moore and a wild card....IMO it will be Waller. He is just too big and fast to give up on. This offense has the potential to be really good, maybe the best ever in Raven history. It's hard not to be optimistic but we'll see how they look when the season starts. Fingers crossed.
  11. The Ravens better hope Correa is ready to play this year. He and Kaufusi. We are really thin at OLB. I don't know what we should expect from Suggs coming off the injury. I don't know what Dumervil has left in the tank. I'm not sold on McClellan on the outside at all. That leaves Z. Smith and Correa to do the bulk of the work on the outside. The whole situation scares me to be honest. Same at ILB......we have Mosely but is Arthur Brown ready up?? I am not sold on Orr either. Given the strength and depth of our defensive line group I have to think we will be playing a lot of 4-3 this season. This will give Kaufusi and Henry the chance to step in and contribute in rotation with Williams, Jernigan, Guy, Davis, Urban and KLM. Davis, Urban and KLM still have a lot to prove IMO. Adding Weddle and Powers should really give us a solid secondary. I just see us being weak in pass coverage underneath given the inexperience of our OLBs. This is the first time in a long while that the linebacker group appears to be the weakest on the team. Ozzie would do well to trade for a veteran. Letting Daryl Smith go seems like a huge blunder IMO.
  12. The wide receiver group is loaded with talent. There is a great mix of youth, experience, pure speed guys and possession receivers. IMO we keep six: Smith, Aiken, Wallace, Perriman, Moore and the wild card will be Waller (he's too big and fast to give up on yet). But the overall passing game will benefit greatly by a really good TE group. Watson, Gilmore, Williams (and Pitta if healthy) would be amazing. Keeping 6 WRs will allow them to keep 4 TEs. All of this is predicated on these guys being healthy. Smith, Pitta and Perriman need to prove they are healthy. I also like this kid Dixon to complement the passing game out of the backfield. He was special in college and looks like he'll find a way to get on the field judging from his performance in OTAs. Since we seem to have a pretty good offensive line, my guess is Flacco has a record setting season. I just hope Trestman knows how to get the most out what appears to be a really talented offense. There is every reason to be cautiously optimistic right now about our chances this season. I think the front office has made the right moves to put us in a position to have a very good season.
  13. Yep..this his time to shine. No more excuses, He should be game ready. I hope the Ravens think he is and that is why they let Smith go. If not then letting Smith go was stupid since we'll have to sign a veteran to play next to Mosely.
  14. I'm not worried that Brown hasn't started for his first few years. He was behind Daryl Smith and C.J. He has now had enough time to build up his strength and experience so that he should be ready to start, if he ever will. If he can't then it was a bust pick. I hope the Ravens felt he was ready which caused them to release Smith. Only time will tell. I don't think Orr or McClellan are the answer to anything. We will have to bring in a veteran and then use a high draft pick next year. I'm also worried about the OLB position. Too many question marks. Will Suggs be recovered and ready to play at his previous level? Given his age it is very questionable, Does Dumervil have another year left in the tank? Maybe. Can Correa play well at this level this year? Who knows? Maybe. Will Z. Smith follow up a pretty good rookie year as a 3 down starter and replace Upshaw in setting the edge? That's a tall order but possible. For the first time in decades our linebacker group could be considered a weakness with more questions than answers. Only time will tell. But the biggest problem facing this defense is who will be the on-the-field leader that can stimulate a performance that is greater than the sum of the parts. This is what we lost when Lewis retired and why we haven't been a dominant defense since. We just lost our swagger.
  15. The offensive line should be a real strength this year. It is really clear to me that some time soon Hurschel will be at center and Stanley will be at L tackle. Lewis will have to beat out Jensen for L guard which will be a winner for the Ravens no matter who starts. They aren't touching Wagner at R tackle or Yanda at L guard. This is a top 5 unit IMO no matter who wins the starting jobs.
  16. This looks like a no-brainer on paper. If people return from IR healthy we will have a very good, deep secondary. May be the writing on the wall for guys like Elam that just haven't performed up to expectations. Should be some great competition which will make us a better team. I wonder if Powers performance before and after his injury was significantly different.?
  17. Our secondary showed a lot of improvement last year. Adding Weddle is HUGE. I think Webb will make a great safety alongside Weddle and Brooks may even beat him out for the second safety spot. Smith and Wright should be fine at the corners. Arrington, Davis or even Yougt will be fine in the slot. This should be a good secondary. Getting Stanley was critical given the loss of Osemele. We should have a top 5 offensive line again. Getting Smith and Perriman back healthy while adding Wallace and Chris Moore should give us a great receiving corp. I think Waller may have a breakout year. His size and speed indicate a huge upside. Getting back Gilmore to go with Watson and Williams gives us a strong TE group. The addition of Correa and Kaufusi will add strength and speed to the LB group. Both will see considerable playing time. We need Arthur Brown to step uo and earn the spot next to Mosely. Hopefully Suggs and Dumervil are healthy and have another year left in the tank. Jernigan, Williams and Guy will form the backbone of a strong D line group. Henry could prove to be a real steal. Changing the field to grass will hopefully cut down on the injuries which have derailed this team the last 2 years. The Ravens have every reason to expect to return to the playoffs. They have improved much more than the Steelers or the Bengals and Cleveland is anybodies guess.
  18. Adding Stanley was a critical move given the loss of Osemele. We will have a top 5 offensive line. Hurst, Urshel, Jensen and probably Lewis will be great backups. I'd like to see Monroe at left guard next to Stanley. This year's draft will prove to be one of the Raven's best. Lots of talent all over the field. Moore and Dixon will be great additions and give us quality depth. Young, Kaufusi, Correa and Henry will all see playing time and will hopefully strengthen a defense that will suffer with the loss of Upshaw and Will Hill. Getting Weddle was a HUGE move that should make everybody better in the secondary This team seems to be really well rounded and has a chance to return to the playoffs. We should be really deep at receiver if Perriman and Smith return healthy. Adding Wallace and Moore should be helpful. Brown, and Waller will be forced to play up to their potential if they want to get on the field. A healthy Gilmore and a more experienced Williams will gave Flacco plenty options. Trestman needs to come up with a better performance than last year. He's got the weapons. Hopefully the change to grass will reduce the ridiculous number of injuries we suffered the last 2 years. Harbaugh has no excuse not to have a really good season. With excellent special teams this team doesn't have any glaring weaknesses.
  19. Stanley, Correa and Kaufusi will be starters this year. The injuries to Monroe and Suggs last year coupled with the loss of Osemele and Upshaw make these 3 picks nothing less than outstanding. All three are starting quality talent. My guess is that at least 3 more of the rookies will see considerable playing time. This was a great draft for the Ravens. But the truth of the matter is that this team's success will depend on the return of players from IR. If we get most back in shape to perform at their previous levels then it will be a good year. Plus we need Arthur Brown and Terrance Brooks to step up and perform to the level to which they were expected. I would hate to see both of these guys turn into busts and join Matt Elam at McDonalds. If not, we will need to cobble together a team that will need to find a way to win, against the odds, every weekend. Hopefully changing the field to grass instead of turf will prevent us from having 18-20 players on IR as we have had each of the last 2 years. Last year was a startling failure by Harbaugh. His first. The loss to Denver set the tone and then injuries finished the job. I thought Flacco gave away the Denver game and it made me think the game was fixed the way he threw that interception to let them back in the game after our defense had taken control. Losing so many close games we should have won was really hard to swallow and almost seemed predetermined. Then the injuries to every key player was almost surreal. The whole season was completely unbelievable. I can honestly say I have no idea what will happen this year. Letting Osemele and Upshaw go was really stupid. Both wanted to stay and should have been paid. I have no idea what to expect from Davis, Urban and Moore. They could be dominant players or get cut. All we have on defense that we can count on are Williams, Jernigan, Mosely Smith and Waddle. Who knows how Suggs, Dumerville, and Webb will perform. Counting on Wright and Arrington seems almost stupid. Plus, this is the most questionable linebacking group we have had in years. Letting Daryl Smith go was also really stupid. I hope that Ozzie and Harbaugh really do know more than is plainly obvious to a basic fan like myself but it seems like there are way more questions than answers. Offensively, Trestman proved to be a big step down from Kubiak. We have 4 good receivers in Smith, Perriman, Wallace and Aiken but it will be lucky if 2 of them actually play and contribute for an entire season. Marlon and Butler are nothing but questions. Hopefully Williams and Waller are ready to do the damage of which they are capable. The rookie Moore has some upside. Pitta......needs to get busy coaching and stop wasting everyone's time. With Stanley we will have a really good offensive line and with Forsett and Allen we will run the ball well. Hopefully Taliaferro will go on IR in preseason so we can get a third back a lot of reps. Taliaferro would be great to have for a whole season but he is a china doll that will never last a whole NFL season. He is big and tough but not durable. He now knows he can get paid for playing half a season so we should get rid of him and find a guy that wants to play football and not just get paid. In the overall analysis, I am a lot more pessimistic than I was at the beginning of last year. I still think we will finish better than 5-11. But that is not saying much. What we really need is Flacco to step up and carry the team the way he did in the 2012 postseason. He has been far too inconsistent in the last two years with his 4th quarter performance against NE in the playoffs 2 years ago still sticking in my throat. However i still believe he is capable of being an MVP QB that can lead this team all the way. Whether he has the supporting cast to get this done is a huge question at this point in time . As a drop dead Raven fan i hope so and will be rooting for them every play/
  20. Weddle and Hill will be the starters and Webb covering the slot sounds good....I guess Smith and Wright will be our corners but it wouldn't surprise me if they take the best corner available with their first round pick. Forget Mike Wallace although he could really excel with Flacco's big arm. If he doesn't get his catches he brings conflict to the team. He's not a team player and a real liability in the locker room. Unless he's really cheap, I'd pass on this guy. I can't wait for the draft......dreaming of Joey Bosa and Mosely in the middle of our defense. We can get offensive lineman in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds (see Urshel, Wagner, Hurst and Jensen). I could also see Ozzie getting a top tier running back in the first round if available. Should be a big haul for the Ravens this year. Call me crazy but I really think they are very close to returning to the Super Bowl. Can we have just one year with less than 20 players on IR?????? That is the question.
  21. He definitely was less effective last year and can't be expected to improve in pass coverage. It's time to see if Arthur Brown can carry the mail alongside C.J. Both McClellan and Orr should give us quality snaps as well. This frees up money for K.O. and Upshaw, both of which we should do everything possible to keep. The defensive line should be solid and really the defense should be a lot better this year if guys like Brooks and Urban start to produce. I think they will take a starting quality corner with the first round pick. Fitting him in with Smith, Hill, and Webb would potentially give us a pretty strong secondary
  22. The secondary looked much better. But I think Vick helped break that streak as well. LOL. We better pick up 2 more veteran receivers. I'm thinking Wayne and Welker. I like Waller and Aiken but Brown is fizzling out and Perriman may well be a bust. Ab glaring problem no one is mentioning is Flacco. He better stop turning the ball over or the Ravens will be lucky to finish 8-8. He is making 1-2 unforced errors a game and putting us behind the 8 ball every time. I hope we play a lot of teams with weak offensive lines and defensive front sevens like the Steelers. To lose to them would have been a justifiable end to the season. They won't even finish 8-8 this year. We should get to 3-3 with SF and Cleveland coming up and then need to go 7-3 at least the rest of the way out. If we can't do that then we don't deserve to even be in the playoffs.
  23. Smith will be out 6-8 weeks with broken ribs. They have to heal completely or they will break again very easily. He could also suffer a punctured lung if they aren't completely healed. Campanaro is done. Givens is a start but adding Reggie Wayne and Wes Welker would be great. I'd like to get SF to trade us so we could get back Torrey and/or Anquan. they don't need them, their team ius in total rebuild mode.
  24. Nice to see a couple new guys make some big plays for us. Loved the back to back sacks by Z. Smith and all around solid play by Will Davis. These guys could be a big help going forward. Also glad to see Aiken and Waller stepping up. I think Campanaro is done for good and Smith may be a while getting back to 100%. It is really time for Ozzie to make a move for some veteran WR's starting with Reggie Wayne. Perriman and Brown are busts, neither will help us this year. Heck, I'd even bring Butler back. The offensive line was finally dominant but remember this is the Steelers who, despite all the hype, have a weak defensive front seven and a weaker secondary. They will be lucky to finish 8-8. At least we won the game. Same goes for the defense who finally made the plays needed to give us a chance to win the game. The Steeler offense is on life support after losing Ben, Pouncey, Suisham and Bryant. They have a weak offensive line as well. I'm really concerned with Flacco and his turnovers. He has been very inconsistent and his turnovers have been game changers all season long. Unless he starts taking care of the ball this will be a long year for the Ravens. We have a good chance to get back to 3-3 with Cleveland and SF coming up. Both are mandatory wins. Having 10 days off will help us get more healthy. Going 7-3 in the last 10 may be enough for a playoff spot. If we can't do that then we don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
  25. If the Ravens make a comeback this season it will be the defense that makes it possible. I'm still kind of disappointed that we let Bell get 100 yards, first time in over 2 years. But the 4th quarter defense was outstanding. Glad Vick was in there instead of Ben. Glad Scobee was in there instead of Suisham. Real glad we have Tucker...he's money, despite his misses against Cincy and Denver. Ozzie better get busy........................starting with Reggie Wayne. Call SF and see if we can get Torrey and Anquan back. Give them Arthur Brown, Marlon Brown, Dennis Pitta and a couple draft choices. I thought Aiken proved he is a solid #3 receiver. Smith is a great #1/#2. But now Campanaro is hurt and Brown needs to be cut. Waller made a great catch with the game on the line so maybe he can build on that. I love his potential. Flacco needs to step up. He almost cost us the game. Two turnovers is usually enough to lose most games the way the Ravens play. He better get his act together. Despite the bad outcome I loved the fake field goal attempt. They got lucky to stop that play, it looked good for a 20-30 yard gain. That was great coaching, going all out to gain an edge and take control of the game in hostile territory. Harbaugh has balls and shows great faith in his players. Hope this turns our season around. Beating Cleveland and SF will get us to 3-3 and then we can set our sights higher.
