  1. I have no problem with Gilmore and Williams as our starting TEs. I'm not sure even a healthy Pitta takes snaps from these guys. Boyle will be on the 53 man roster in case Pitta goes down. He would never clear waivers and the Ravens will not risk losing him. The problem with Pitta is he may appear healthy but could go down and out at any time. His situation is just too fragile not to keep 3 other TEs. If Pitta is healthy that means they will keep 6 WRs instead of 7. I like Smith, Perriman, Brown, Aiken, Butler and Waller. Due to his fragility, I could only justify keeping Campanaro as a returner/7th WR. He may not be able to hold up under NFL poundings. We'll also have Jackson and Webb as well as Vaughn that can return kicks. I'd like to see Brooks and his speed as a returner as well. This team is so deep it's amazing. It really doesn't matter much about the 6th receiver or 4th TE. These guys will hardly get on the field.
  2. I would like to think that Joe wants to keep Osemele and Yanda, his health depends on it. That being said, Joe is not a materialistic person and now has more money than he could ever spend. It makes sense that Joe will restructure to give the managers of the team the maximum ability to keep a really good team together.....especially if they have a great year in 2015. We will just have to wait and see. But I'm glad we are dealing with Joe and not some "me first" guy. All the people involved in the negotiations are very smart and well-intentioned. I have great faith that the organization will come out on top as will the players. A win-win is easily possible.
  3. Flacco has so many targets that this offense will be really tough to stop. That's true also because we have a top 3 offensive line. On paper this is as good an offense as the Ravens have ever had. Trestman will be held to a high standard with all this talent. Having a diverse offense that can run and pass equally well will be hardest on defenses. IMO, having one RB catch 100 passes doesn't necessarily sound like a good thing.
  4. This kid has a lot of potential and is really fast. I see him as a back up this year which is good for him...another year of seasoning will help him when (if) he finally starts.
  5. I think Joe restructures so that we can keep Yanda and Osemele. If Joe was smart he would pay them under the table! The reason they are waiting to do anything is first, do we win the SB this year and second how will we restructure Joe. Gaurantee Joe will be very flexible if it's to keep his O line together.
  6. This is looking like a veteran secondary with a lot of talent and a lot of depth. Hill and Lewis will be great safeties. Webb, Melvin, Vaughn and Jackson will compete for the other corner opposite Smith. Arrington will be a good slot corner. If Tray Walker fits in then great. Brooks is going to have to fight for PT when he gets off the PUP list. With a dominant front 7 like we have the secondary should be even that much better. Having a really good offense should help the defense stay fresh. This could be quite a year for the Ravens. A nice blowout of Denver in week one would be a great way to start!!!
  7. I'm really amazed at all the talent this team has all over the field. This looks like the most talent the Ravens have every had. The best part of that is being able to rotate a lot of players. Quality depth often makes the difference in December and January. I cant wait for September.
  8. Smith, Perriman, Aiken, Brown, Butler and Waller. These six are on the team. Campanaro has to stay healthy and win the returner job or he goes to the practice squad. Same with Carter. If Pitta isn't healthy they may keep 7 WRs like they did in 2013. If he is healthy they keep 6 WRs and 4 TEs. Boyle would never clear waivers but Campanaro and Carter probably would. Plus they can't take a chance on losing Boyle in case Pitta gets re-injured. Flacco will be spreading the ball around. Every one of our receivers is starting caliber and I bet that they use a rotation to keep everyone fresh. The idea of a #1 and #2 just won't apply this year. This will be a tough offense to stop.
  9. Marlon Brown and Kamar Aiken are seasoned veterans at this point in time. Both have proven they are more than ready to compete at the NFL level. They will contribute early in the season as Perriman and Waller get up to speed. The future at WR for the Ravens, however, is Perriman, Brown and Waller. These 3 are big and fast and will be a force once Smith retires. Along with Gilmore and Williams as well as Forsett/Allen the Ravens will have a formidable passing game.
  10. I liked Taliaferro a lot but that fumble against Pitt still stings. Truthfully though, any decent RB will excel behind our offensive line. Ask Forsett.
  11. If Hill is making a serious commitment he has the ability to go to the Pro Bowl. If Smith and Hill stay healthy, now that we have added Vaughn, Arrington and Lewis this could be a very good secondary. Having Brooks, Jackson, Webb, Melvin and Elam as backups would give us some pretty good depth as well. With a dominant front seven (actually 12-13!) in front of them the overall defense could be one of the better defenses the Ravens have had. If they stay healthy this team could go a long way.
  12. No wonder Arthur Brown can't get on the field!!
  13. Without a doubt this guy will become a Flacco favorite. Williams and Gilmore will be a whole lot to handle. Pitta may end up as the third TE even if he is healthy. Boyle is good insurance should Pitta go down however.
  14. Joe is money. We are so very lucky to have him as our QB. This year he has a great offensive line and a lot of talent with which to work. Trestman and Joe will make a great team. And the Ravens have a very good defense now that the secondary has been bolstered by FAs and guys getting healthy. On paper they look as good as any team in the AFC. Beating the Ravens will be a tough task for any team they face.
  15. We kept 7 WRs in 2013. This will depend on Pitta being healthy and keeping a roster spot. Boyle wouldn't clear waivers so they will keep 4 TEs if Pitta is healthy and that means 6 WRs. They won't take a chance on losing Boyle in case Pitta goes down again. So it looks like Carter and Camp will be fighting with Butler for a 6th WR spot. Plus they will keep one of them as a returner to go along with Jackson. Due to injuries they might keep Camp on the practice squad as he will clear waivers. This will be a tough call but it is a good problem to have. Joe has a lot of big, fast targets. Much better than last year. Perriman changes everything.
  16. Why all the fuss over Elam? I hope for our sake he is not on the field this year. Signing Lewis was his death knell, cut or not. He is useful now only for depth and hopefully he never sees the field. I just don't see a miraculous transformation where he could beat out Lewis or Hill. He just isn't athletic enough and doesn't have the "smarts" to be a good NFL safety. He missed too many tackles as well.
  17. In short yardage I expect Taliaferro to be on the field. When Forsett needs a blow both Allen and Taliaferro will willing and able. Pitta is just an unknown. No use even speculating as it is exactly 50/50, yes or no. So I look for Gilmore and Williams to get the TE snaps. If Pitta can contribute then fine and if not then that is fine also. You can bank on Perriman and Smith to be #1 and #2 and not in that order necessarily but what does that matter. Perriman, just by his presence, changes what a defense can do. Hard to put 8 in the box with him on the field. In 3 and 4 WR sets I expect Brown and Waller to see the majority of snaps. Waller will exceed everyone's expectations. Trestman and Flacco can make this guy a star. There just are not too many guys that are 6'6, 240 lbs that can run a 4.4 40. He is athletic and contests very ball. Predraft comments stated he could be a "TD machine in the NFL" and "...back shoulder throws were nearly indefensible". Sounds a lot like Anquan Boldin when he was paired with Flacco. Flacco gets extra out of all his receivers due to his arm strength. He did this with Marlon in his rookie year. He didn't need Marlon much last year and probably won't this year either. But the guy is a very good receiver. We are just loaded at WR now. By signing Lewis, Ozzie was basically throwing in the towel on Elam. Lewis was not signed for depth. If Elam blossoms great. My guess is that this is his last year as a Raven if he makes the team. Kick returner is a good question. They won't take a chance on Webb if he is healthy and playing back to his old form at corner. If he's still weak at corner they might as well let him return. Jackson, Carter and Campanaro will all get solid looks as return men. Should be a good competition. They will keep 9-10 O linemen. The rookie they drafted plus the 7 that played last year makes 8. This may be the year that Reid and/or Jensen gets cut. They had some nice UDFA's in camp. On paper this is the best Ravens team as far as talent and depth is concerned. They will be a tough test for any team they face.
  18. This is the most talent the Ravens have ever had on offense...at every position. They will be a nightmare to defend. The receivers are particularly talented, big and fast. When Flacco has time he is a beast and behind this O line he will have all day. I fully expect Trestman to have a lot of fun with these guys. They will do everything well. Expect a well balanced offense that capitalizes on a defense's weakness. This should be an offense that just doesn't get stopped very often.
  19. If Pitta returns healthy then "Juice" could be in trouble. They are keeping Williams, Gilmore and Boyle as none would clear waivers. If Carter outplays Campanaro as a returner then Camp's spot could be on the practice squad. NO WAY Waller clears waivers and goes to the practice squad. They will keep Smith, Perriman, Brown, Aiken, Waller and Butler. Yanda will cost them but it will cost a lot more to lose him. They have to pay Yanda and Osemele too. These guys are critical to the entire team's success as we found out in 2013. They need 7 good offensive lineman. Urshel and Hurst proved they are good backups and will be good starters in another couple years....just not now. If they feel Arthur Brown is ready then this will be Daryl Smith's last year as a Raven. If not then he may end up getting cut. He should be up to speed by now. These are all good problems to have and show the high quality depth the ravens have at every position.
  20. Use that money to extend Osemele, Yanda and Tucker.
  21. Bring back the drop kick!!!
  22. SIGN TUCKER NOW....no joke. Quit playing around. Kicker money is only going to go up, particularly after this season. Give the kid 3 mill a year for 4 years, he's worth it. DO IT NOW OZZIE!!!!
  23. This rule change can only help the Ravens. But here is a question....We line up at the 2 yard line supposedly going to run the ball but then, after a failed run and lateral backwards, use the "drop kick" to make the 1 pt. extra point. Is that legal?
  24. One of the reasons we let Ngata go is we saw how effective Williams,Jernigan and Canty/Tyson were in stopping the run. Williams is an unmovable force in the middle and Jernigan is cat-quick with great instincts. Getting Davis in the draft and Urban and Moore back from IR gives us a strong 6 man rotation up front. Lawrence guy was effective as well. Ngata money could and was spent more wisely extending Jimmy Smith and signing Cedric Lewis. This was a no-brainer as Ngata, although still excellent, is in the twilight of his career. I hated to see him go but I feel ok with it as we desperately needed help in the secondary. The decimated secondary probably cost us a trip to the Super Bowl last year. That should not be the case this year.
