There's no "big hole" there - Zach Orr could step up and do a decent job today if he needed to. We know of Ozzie's 80/20 rule: if you have a player who offers 80% of another player's performance for 20% of his money, cut the expensive guy and replace him with the cheaper one. That's exactly how Ngata was replaced by Brandon Williams - and that's now Zach Orr may replace Daryl Smith.

But, who knows - Smith may even be back.

Zach Orr is not a star in the waiting,IMO.Daryl Smith gave us 121 tackles,3 sacks,3 passes defensed and 1 int last year. And last year was his "bad" year if you want to call it that.If Orr could give us 80 percent of what Daryl can, then that means you're calling him the next Dannell Ellerbe.

That's a good point you made about him maybe coming back at a lower price.I was so shocked that we cut him that I hadn't considered that.We did the same thing with Canty last year.

The trade value chart is an OK barometer I guess, but its far from accurate. We've seen countless trades done that are way far away from what the draft trade value chart says the trade should be.

I know what you mean.Supply of talent and the demand of a given pick could drive the price up on a pick, but it still gives fans a baseline to work with.

I seriously don't see Bosa going 1st. If the Titans don't take Tunsil, they would be foolish to take any defender other than Ramsey. Ramsey is that good.

That being said, I see the Titans protecting their QB and drafting Tunsil.  And it wouldn't surprise me at all if Cleveland takes Ramsey. I can see the Browns throwing a wrench in everyone's system in the top 10.

There hasn't been a defensive back chosen number one overall in over 60 years.Ramsey is good, but he's not good enough to break that streak. The titans will chose either Tunsil or Bosa and the browns are getting rid of Manziel which means it's QB time in Cleveland.Plus, they'll more than likely be keeping their FS(can't remember his name) who is one of the top safeties in the league when healthy and they have Joe Haden and a CB they just spent a top ten first round pick on two years ago.Unless Cleveland sees something in Goff that makes them think he absolutely has no upside and is a bust, they really have no choice but to shoot for the moon and draft the best QB in the class hoping they'll find a gem.

I admittedly have know idea how to use the draft chart, but I was wondering hypothetically, what it would cost us to move from our spot in the second to lets say 25. I don't think this is a good or even a feasible move , but I just want to know how much we would have to give up.

The 25th pick is pittsburgh so I highly doubt any trading will be going on between our teams. To answer your question though,We'd need to trade our third and swap positions in the 4th round for that trade to even out on the trade chart.

At last someone with an understanding of the trade value chart :D

I don't think Ozzie would give up his third round pick for Ramsey in such a situation - but at least it would be a fair trade offer - we should even get DAL's one current low-round pick (6th round) and we would still be generous :)

Yeah,I  found out about the draft trade value chart a few years ago and I've been calculating imaginary drafts trade scenarios ever since.:D

  6. Assuming the titans take Bosa, the browns take a QB and the chargers take Tunsil,we need to attempt to trade our first and third round pick to the cowboys for Ramsey.I had given up on the idea of him after we landed just out of the top 5,but after his combine performance yesterday,he's worth the 1 or 2 extra picks it would take to get him. There's no way he won't hit the ground running as a rookie and become a pro bowler. He's the second biggest sure thing in this draft.I'd even be ok with us having to go as high as our 1st,3rd and a future 5th if the cowboys really wanted to be stubborn about it.

  7. Bandon Williams is already a beast. Not much else he can do.. maybe get a couple more sacks but he eats up blocks and stops the run. Shoulda been pro bowler this year. Jernigan can get better, he had what 4 sacks? Hes a DT like Suh or Donald.. a pass rush type.. so if he can double his sack total up to 8-10 range for a DT thats pro bowl, all pro numbers.

Side Note... Rams just Cut Chris Long.30yrs old DE(Howie Longs son) 55 sacks.. there could be a option for Ozzie to consider Long has 4-5 good years left. Need pass rush.. possible F/A Option

I'd love that if we could get him for about $4 million a year.

Well, I'm not sure the NFL is gonna start crediting us by bringing an MNF game to altimore after a 5-11 season... If a Super Bowl season wasn't enough for that, a non-playoiff season will hardly make the cut...

Last year, the Browns and Saints got home MNF games after going 7-9,the Falcons got one after going 6-10 and the Redskins got one after going 4-12.In 2014,the Redskins got one after going 3-13.If you would give MNF home games to those teams,I honestly don't see why you wouldnt want to give one to us with the stadium, lively fan base and team we usually field.

  9. Eisenbeeg Premise is both right and wrong. Right, because this is Flaccos team now and he hasnt ever been given the offensive weaponry of a Big Ben,Rodgers,Brees etc to win mainly mainly on his arm an put up MVP type seasons.
Eisenberg is wrong, Defense wins championships. Just look at recent history with LOB and Denver. Secondly Ravens franchise philosophy is Defense first, and balance on offense which lends itself to more "Team" success then individual success.
Last its widely accepted the 2 most important holes to fill in the draft are transcendent Pass Rushers, and Gamechsnging WRs..so you can improve both sides of the ball and not have to be 1 dimensional team

I think a talented CB to go opposite Jimmy is more important than a pass rusher is going into next season.I know Suggs suffered a serious injury and is a year older, but he and Doom played at a crazy high level when they were both on the field together. It's hard to believe that they won't even be good enough playing together next year. Our pass rush looks like it's at the least good enough to win a SB.As is,the secondary doesn't look like a superbowl winning secondary,IMO.

  10. I think Eisenberg is wrong. Defenses win Super Bowls. Sure Flacco had a great SB run but lets not forget the Defense stopped Manning and got the ball back for us and also stymied Brady.
Flacco hasn't had a 4000 yd season yet nor threw for over 25 tds in a season. He hasn't got the job done in "crunch time" consistently like an elite QB should, but hes good enough to win if our defense turns rabid like they used to be.

"He hasn't got the job done in "crunch time" consistently"

What???Flacco definitely does get the job done in the clutch the majority of the time.I could name countless clutch crunch time plays/performances of his throughout his career, but I won't because it would turn this comment into a novel.Last year was just a blip in his career. No QB in NFL history has gotten the job done in crunch time 100 percent of the time.

"Flacco hasn't had a 4000 yd season yet nor threw for over 25 tds in a season."

What does that have to do with anything?Yards are just a product of a high number of attempts. You(I don't mean you in particular but ravens fans in general) can't cry about us moving away from a team that dedicates everything to defense and a run game and then hold it against Flacco when his stats reflect the way the team around him was built. Also,he threw for 27 TD's in 2014.

"hes good enough to win if our defense turns rabid like they used to be."

I don't see how you could think the only way we've won with Flacco in the past and/or can win with Flacco in the future is with a rabid defense.Especially not after the 2012/13 SB year. We've only had what I would call a rabid defense twice since he's been here.If we can manage to find Flacco just one Elite weapon and surround that player with guys who are respectable and dependable, that would do more for this team than you could imagine.

  11. Drafting a LT when we have Monroe would not be a wise choice.A wise choice would be drafting Treadwell since Steve Smith is retiring next year and we have no idea what we have in Perriman. And even if Perriman does work out we will still need someone on the other side of him.You don't use such a precious draft pick on the off chance that you might want to cut a player a year later when you have another player that you know will be gone for sure.

Got us nowhere? We had the eventual SB Champions down by 14 twice ON THE ROAD with Jimmy Smith sidelined, Webb running on fumes from injuries, a practice squad player starting at corner, half our team on IR, and all this taking place a week before the Patriots got caught cheating at the exact same venue that we played them in. Melvin cost us the game as he was targeted over and over by Brady and then gave up an absurd trick play that sealed the deal. The circumstances surrounding that game were nothing short of ridiculous.

To me that doesn't prove that an elite pass rush is inconsequential, the rush could never get there because Melvin couldn't even cover for a few seconds against the quick breaking routes. If Jimmy Smith plays that's an entirely different game, we would see that rush get home and I have no doubt we win with how the offense was putting up points. The secondary play as well as the rest of defense as a whole is very important, no one's saying it's not. But there's no way you can brush off the importance of an elite pass rush under those circumstances.

How did this get upvotes or hearts or whatever we're calling them now?Our pass rush isn't the reason we had those two 14 point leads. It's part of the reason we lost those 14 point leads. When you look at the numbers Ben and Brady put up against us in 2014 it really did get us no where against them.I'm not brushing off the importance of a good pass rush, but without good pass coverage the best pass rushes are useless against the better QB's in the league. You basically proved the point I was making with all the talk about Webb,Melvin and Jimmy. An elite secondary > an elite pass rush.Just look at what Seattle has been doing for the past few years.Instead of a thread about Denvers elite pass rush,we should have a thread about their elite secondary.Their pass rush is not better than what we brought with McPhee,Ngata,Timmy,Suggs and Doom. The difference between Denver and us is their pass coverage and playcalling as I said in my original post.

Both the Carolina Tackles got beat like a drum all night, I get that VM and Ware are top flight pass rushers but that was a pathetic. Nice reminder that games are won and lost in the trenches first and foremost. We all want a sexy pick like a WR or CB but I could definitely see us taking Stanley and I would be very happy with it.

If we drafted Stanley,he wouldn't play for the next 2-3 years. The large majority of his rookie contract would be spent with him filling in sparingly if/when Monroe gets injured and with us wondering he if could play guard if we lose KO and fail to replace him.

  14. Hopefully Suggs returning and moving Webb to safety fixes our defense.I'm tired of hearing about other teams playing games. It feels like it's been forever since we've had a meaningful football game.I'm ready to see the ravens rag doll the NFC East and AFC East on our way to a bye week and a SB.We need to go atleast 6-2 versus those divisions and at 4-2 in our own.If we're good enough to do that then we could go 12-4 because even though I think the raiders and jaguars will be better,I don't think they'll be good enough to beat the elite teams(which is what we still are at full strength.

  15. The Ravens drafting a LT with Eugene Monroe already under contract and performing well is way more unlikely than them drafting a WR in consecutive years. The front office already stated in the presser that they were pleased with the way Eugene Monroe played when he was on the field. If Ramsey reaches Dalls,we'll probably makes a trade for him.If they ask for too much then we'll probably either draft Treadwell or trade back.
