Pees gets a bad wrap because of the bend-don't break style he brought over ffrom New England. He's a serious X/O mind and knows how to manage a defense with less talent, allowing the F.O. to invest their money into the offense. Most fans remember the awesome smashmouth Ravens defenses up through 2010. That's a diffenent era and F.O. has actively made the mve from defensive first to offense first because of the NFL rule changes and haivng our first franchise QB in team history.
Fans have to get over the past and stop pining for it. Stop whining ove the missed play-offs of 2013. Rex payed checkers on defense - Pees is playing chess. He might not be Pagano, but if it wasn't for Pees this team may have missed out on the '12 Super Bowl and possibly the other post-seasons too.
The Pats are always contenders. I've been calling for their demise since 2010, but they continue to surprise. Eventually things will change, but as much as I dislike that team (pehaps even for then the Steelers) I'll never coun them out as long as they have Belichick and Brady. Because as long as the league won't take away wins for cheating, New England will find ways to make it happen.
"That's a diffenent era and F.O. has actively made the mve from defensive first to offense first "
I wish. Before this years draft I thought Ozzie forgot you could draft offensive players in the top half of the draft.Plus we let our top young WR go in favor of our top young CB.
Yeah, I don't think Pees is phenomenal by any means, but I don't think he's holding us back. The fact that the SB defense won the SB is pretty convincing testimony. That defensive front was so weak, and he still made it work.

His superbowl defense gave up 170 rushing yards, almost 500 total yards and set a record for most points(32) given up by a superbowl winning team. The defense didn't didn't win the SB if you ask me and I don't think that's a good game to use if you want to defend him.
"That defensive front was so weak, and he still made it work. "
That defensive front wasn't weak.We had Pernell Mcphee,Arthur Jones and Haloti Ngata on that D-line.At LB we had Suggs and Ray and Ellerbe and Kruger were playing out of their minds that year.
Considering that we almost made it to the Super Bowl (convinced we would have beat Indy), Pees is far from a bum considering the secondary mash unit he had to work with almost the entire season.
Pees isn't a bum but he's as average as average gets.I mean really,we have a stud at every position in the front seven and a whole bunch of big money contracts and first round picks in the secondary. How have we not been top 5 atleast ONCE?I wish he had some of the aggressiveness and creativity that Pagano and Rex Ryan brought to our defense.
I look at all teams (FF season starting up soon),but these Ravens are built for a strong SB run. Only weak link we have is Pees..he's a bum. My break out player this year is Arthur Brown, he's foaming out the mouth.
Hopefully Arthur Brown never sees the field this year. Also,we have alot of unproven players on our D-Line and in our passing game so I consider those to be the two weak links.
We play Peyton and his plethora of weapons on the road in week 1 so it won't take us long to see if our secondary is now ready to defend against an elite QB.
This is the player I've been waiting to hear about.Hopefully he still has that athleticism he had when we drafted him.
Can't be talking about Elam.
lol
I don't know why I got so many down votes. If we brought in Welker or Jones and Camp or Brown failed to beat them out for a spot over the summer then so be it.I like both of them but in the end we gotta root for the jersey and not the name on the back.
I think we already got enough players at WR position, Wes Welker man???, his wife claimed Ray lewis was a murderer, i don't want that guy near my ravens.
I forgot about that, but she took her comments back and apologized for it right afterwards. It's not really that serious.Wes Welker will be the one in a ravens jersey, not his wife.We have alot of bodies on our WR depth chart but do you actually believe any of them would add more to our team than one of those vets would?Either Campanero or Brown will probably be the 4th WR on our depth chart and Jones and Welker are definitely better options than both of them.
I think the ravens should check out Wes Welker and James Jones. They're both still better than our 3rd/4th options and if we could get one of them for the right price I think it would pay off.
I don't think any of those teams are better than us, especially the Colts. They have a weak O-line, no run game, and their qb gives the ball away too much. Their defense is mediocre at best. After we outplayed the Patriots and barely lost, with 19 players on IR, the Colts got completely destroyed. Rankings at this point are obviously based on a lot of guessing, and you never know who is going to get injured and how the rookies will adjust to the NFL, but at this point, considering our roster and depth, as long as our early draft picks do what they are expected to do, we will have one of the best run games in the league, one of the most dangerous and explosive passing games in the league, and a great defense. Considering that we almost knocked off the SB champs last year with a mediocre receiving corps, a decimated secondary, and both our starting tackles out, I think there is a good case to be made for us to be ranked #1, not that it means anything.
The colts have Frank Gore at RB now and I doubt anyone will be willing to stack the box against them with Luck at QB and with all those WRs and TEs they have.Their run game will be way better than it was last year. Then on defense they'll be getting Robert Mathis back this year, they just signed Trent Cole and Arthur Jones will probably be healthy this year unlike last year. They're just better than us this year.
While I would typically agree with you... and would definitely admit to being a homer, which isn't a bad thing... Who do you think is better at this point? Looking at where we finished last season; and knowing what we have on our roster this season; I think we are better.
Broncos,Colts,Seahawks,Packers and maybe the Cardinals are all better than us.Also, even though I feel like we would beat the Patriots whether at home or on the road now that Revis and Browner are gone,I think they'll end the season with a better record than us.
I think us being number one in the MMQB rankings is a joke based on what Harbaugh said.I can be a homer at times and even I wouldn't put us that high.I'd say we were a 9-7 - 11-5 team depending on health and the rookie seasons of Perriman and Williams.
ok then
give Ben Boldin and Mason .
we have Wallace and Santonio.
What does your heart tell you?
I got a better one for you.Give Flacco Brown,Bell,Bryant,Wheaton and Miller and give Roethlisberger Smitty,Perriman,Brown,Forsett and Williams.Which guy is your heart telling you would have the better year?
I bet the same people who believe Joe isn't better than Roethlisberger are the same people who would give you a million down votes during the free agency period if you suggested trading for or signing a big name elite pass catcher. They're the same people who will cheer when we decide not to resign a WR like Torrey Smith for a measly 8 million a year. They're also probably the same people who were hoping we went cornerback in the first round of the draft.Yet they'll be the first to tell you who Flacco's not better than when he doesn't break 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Boldin is better than mike wallace and holmes ever were. Heck one is about to be out of the league and the other already is.
Boldin and Mason were a class above sanders, holmes and wallace.
I've only read page 5 so far so I don't fully understand the entire context of the conversation but I'm guessing you're saying the 30 year old Boldin we had and the 34 year old Mason we had were better than those three. If that's the case you're dead wrong.Emanuel Sanders played like he-man last year,Holmes was turning into a star before he was forced to play with Sanchez in the back half of his career and Wallace is basically a better version of Torrey. As far as class goes, all of those guys are on the same second tier level. At their best their all really good number 2's IMO but I gotta give Wallace and Sanders the nod because their in their primes.
I like this new change. It puts teams with bad kickers at a disadvantage and we just so happen to have the best kicker in the AFC and one of the top 3 guys in the league.
It would be great if we could get him signed long term before he prices himself out of baltimore.
Even steelers fans hate those ugly bumble bee striped uniforms. That article smells like click bait to me.
I wasn't a huge Maxx Williams fan neither but for some reason I still got excited when I heard his name called lol.I'm hoping the experts know something about him that I don't know.I just don't see the freakish athleticism everyone says he has. He's about the same height and weight as Pitta but he doesn't seem to be as quick or fast.Pitta was extremely quick twitch. He juked defensive backs both in college and in the NFL.Just look at the play at the 8 second mark in his video.Heap had the abiIity to make people miss too as seen in his second video.I'm still trying to figure out what Maxx's "thing" is.Gronk has size and athleticism.Graham has size and freakish athleticism.Vernon Davis has track speed.Tony G had basketball skills and was really good at using his body to box defenders out. What's that trait that's going to make Maxx special?
When we first drafted Upshaw my hope was that he would become our version of Lamar Woodley. He does good job in run defense and dropping in coverage but I'm not impressed with what he has become because he doesn't have pass rush skills. When you use what was basically a first rounder you expect a well rounded player.I don't really want to call him a bust but he kind of was.
I started to make a thread about this last season.I check out other teams forums every once in a while and everytime I go to theirs around the time that we play them theres usually a couple fans thinking they're our rival and hating on Flacco,Harbaugh,Suggs and Ray Lewis. One guy on this one titans forum even has an anti-ravens avatar lol.At first I didn't think of them as a rival because I was too young to remember those days, but ever since I found out how much they hate us I smile a little more when we kick their butts or when I think about those two divisional games.
Oh yeah I forgot to add that Javarius Allens highlight video on youtube is INSANE!
If we can't keep both gaurds then I think Osemele should be a priority over Yanda based on youth. Both are great players and both can and have played both gaurd and tackle for us but keeping Kelechi around will make us better for longer. It's the same decision the colts made at QB.They could've had Peyton for four more years or Luck for the next 15-20.Well we could extend Yanda(who has been difficult to negotiate with which is within his rights to do but still...) for four more years or we can hold on to Osemele and have a top level guard for the next ten years. It's an easy decision if you ask me.
If by top tier you mean super bowl caliber, then no,but we do have the potential to be one.If by some miracle we hit on both Perriman and Williams and they're both contributors straight out of the gate then we're tops in the AFC.If atleast one of them aren't CJ Mosley-esque right out the gate then we're going to struggle on offense.I'm not as happy go lucky about our pass catchers as everyone else on here seems to be.I'm happy focused on offense in the first two rounds, but neither of those two were high on my wish list before the draft.I don't trust Aiken,Brown or Camp to be able to fill Owen and Torrey's production either. If any of them reached atleast 50 catches and 700 yards with atleast 4 or 5 TD's on their own I'd be floored.I also would like to wait and see what Trestmans offense looks like.He could be another Caldwell,he could be another Kubiak or he could be anywhere in-between.We have alot of uncertainty on offense. We need to wait and see how it starts to pan out before anyone can truly say where we rank with out any bias.By the third week of preseason I'll know exactly what to expect out of this team.

I kind of agree with you.I don't think it's as much of a no brainer as you make it seem because of Jimmy's injury history and they're pretty much on the same level talent wise when they are both fully healthy. The only reason I would maybe opt to sign Jimmy over Torrey is because finding talented and consistent CB's has become harder to do.Other than that they are pretty much on the same level at their positions.
