  1. I don't know if this has been said already, but for those that want to see Ravens ranked well in a top 100 list, go to profootballfocus.com and check out their rankings from their grading system. There are some Ravens on there that flat out won't be on the NFLs list. I just checked it out (they have only done 100-41 so far). Here are the Ravens, their rank, and a comment made Brandon Williams - 100 (best NT against the run) Will Hill - 73 (6th best safety play last season) Kelechi Osemele - 68 (4th highest graded run blocking guard) Elivs Dumervil - 63 (third best pass rush grade from left side of all OLBs) Pernell McPhee - 52 (4th best pass rusher of all edge rushers Terrell Suggs - 48 (only OLB that received a 10+ grade against the run and rushing the passer) You have to figure Forsett, Yanda, Wagner and Smith Sr make the list somewhere. So if you're looking to see Ravens represented on a top 100 list, here's the list for you.
  2. Who are the 6 WRs ahead of him? Even if you could Perriman and every WR from the roster last season, that's only 5 (Perriman, Smith Sr, Brown, Camp, Aiken). Unless you're calling out people for expecting a 6th rounder to take than #6 spot while you assume that spot will go to an undrafted player
  3. It's more than likely true as he didn't seem to even be on the field during redzone and goal to go situations. I recall yelling at my tv screen constantly when Joe would throw to 5'9 Smith Sr from 5 yards out while the 6'5 Brown was on the bench. It was mind boggling
  4. Baltimore on the 5 yard line with a 1st and goal. They line up 4 wide with Waller and Perriman on the right (Perriman inside), Brown and Williams on the left (Williams inside). Forsett the lone back to block and/or be a check down. The defense panics as they all realize they won't stop this TD. This is what I look forward to this season
  5. That's the thing, if their main value is return man, then there's definitely no way 2 roster spots go to return men only. I'm saying this because I seriously doubt they both contribute much on offense so one of them just won't make it imo. Especially when Webb and Jackson can both return punts as far as the coaches are concerned. But as you said, we shall see
  6. One, that was specifically about Welker. Two, come on, don't play that game. Amendola had a whopping 200 on the season as was fortune enough to get to beat on a depleted Ravens secondary in the post season. In the 2 non Baltimore games, he had 56 combined yards. That's not a credit to your argument Three, who else did New England have to put at WR over Edelman? Josh Boyce? Aaron Dobson? Fourth, I watched the the Pats plays us and the Seahawks. Admittedly didn't pay hard attention to the Superbowl and just plain didn't watch the Championship game. That said, neither Amendola nor Edelman did any damage to us as "shifty slot" receivers. They took turns abusing Melvin on the outside left, hence Melvin giving up 200+ yards alone. Edelman did damage on the right side against the Seahawks if I recall. Either way, the Ravens game hurts your argument about the need for "shifty slot" receivers since NE didn't use them like that to beat us. This is why the shifty slot receiver is overrated to me
  7. Honestly, I think the shifty slot receiver concept is an overrated one to me. For all the hype Welker got over the years, New England won it all without him and he certainly wasn't the catalyst for Denver being good. I do believe Campanero, or Carter, makes the team though. Just one of them. But unless Brown, Aiken, Waller, Worthy, and Butler all look like trash during OTAs and preseason, I don't see Campanero or Carter getting all that much playing time in this offense.
  8. I guess I disagree with a lot of people. First, I don't see how they keep 7 WRs. After all the injuries in the secondary, there's no way they don't go into the season with as many as possible, just in case. Second, Carter and Campanero will not both make the team. Let's be honest, there's no way they both see the field. Maybe one of them becomes the return man but at the same time, it could be Asa or some other player we haven't signed yet. 3rd, how are people big on Aiken and down on Brown? Aiken was hot to start the season, Marlon was injured. Marlon was hot to finish the season, Aiken was healthy. Both finished with very similar numbers minus the TDs, but the guy that finishes strong (Marlon) almost always has the advantage going into the next season. He'd have to flop completely. Don't be surpised if he starts bye week 3.
  9. Pretty much what Sami said. Not enough footage on him for teams to risk higher draft picks. He'd have likely been highly sought after if he went undrafted. Hopefully their loss is our gain I can't speak for coaches but a 6'6, 4.4 speed WR weighing 240 that can actually catch is all I need to know to take out a flyer. If he never becomes a good route runner, you still have a #3 to send deep (see Steelers and Bryant) and an endzone jump ball threat. That alone is worthy of a 5th rounder imo and we got him in the 6th
  10. It's clearly not a red flag since they actually discussed it all with him prior to drafting him. And, this is the team that was likely going to draft Marcus Peters if he was available. The Ravens give players chances if they seem redeemable (see J.Smith). That said, he was suspended for violating teams rules and that honestly could be anything. It could be not staying out past a team given curfew, not drinking, or not wearing a tie to a meeting when he was told to. Either way, it's something nobody in Baltimore was really worried about before they drafted him.
  11. In week 1, we only kept six last year (Smith, Smith Sr, Jones, Brown, Aiken, Campanero) and 5 the previous year (Smith, Brown, Jones, Thompson, and Melette. Thompson had a foot injury so we actually went into week 1 with 4 WRs).
  12. Yeah I meant to just include Tucker about the All Pro part and ended up putting him on the probowl list in error
  13. Yeah, we could have signed Simon to our practice squad but there was just no place for him in 2014 and we would have had to cut someone else for him to be active on the 53. Who do you cut from the 2014 roster that was already struggling with players and injuries (see the CBs)? I'm fairly confident he would have been used in McPhee's place this season which would have saved us a draft pick. I get what you're saying though. In the end, I just don't think Waller goes anywhere but the 53 man roster
  14. Always hated the probowlers argument. J.Smith L.Webb T.Smith P.McPhee T.Jernigan B.Williams D.Pitta C.Upshaw K.Osemele K.Juszczyk R.Wagner J.Urschel P.Kruger A.Jones J.Tucker Not a probowler in the bunch but most of them are extremely good at what they do when healthy. A few can easily be considered top 5 at their position when healthy. Probowls will always be a horrible argument on whether or not a player is good. Not making the all pro team means they weren't considered top 3 or 4 at their position. So if they are considered 5th best that means it was a bad draft pick since they missed the all pro selection? Tucker is only the most accurate kicker in NFL history at the moment and his missed the 2014 all pro team. He must not be that good, right?
  15. I also don't think we keep 7. 6 is the magic number. Perriman replaces Torrey from last year. Waller replaces Jones. That's it. If anybody else makes the roster it'll likely be over Aiken as I think he's more expendable than many believe. He was used heavily to start the season and then Brown got all that attention to finish the season. Perriman Smith Sr. Campanero Waller Brown Aiken/someone else This isn't my order, just the WRs I think we keep on the 53
  16. Waller has too many thinks going in his favor already over players like Brown (who I have loved since preseason week 3 of his rookie year), Aiken, and Carter. Baltimore may be the place where undrafted players get a chance, but how many surpass a drafted player in their first season? That removes Carter. Baltimore is always more loyal to it's on draft picks than to a free agent. Aiken came from another team and has a skill set that, quite honestly, Brown and many others could duplicate. The rookie drill videos show Waller looking good out there AND getting attention from coaches. You better believe that they want him on the team. They want that size and speed. Engram specifically wanted him. Trestman loves those big guys. Waller would simply have to bomb the offseason in impressive fashion to end up losing a spot to Carter (who at best would just be a kick returner), Robinson, and Aiken. Oh and let's not forget, the coaches recently learned that you can't put guys you like on the practice squad and hope they stay there. Remember how good 4th round pick John Simon looked in preseason? Of course he wasn't a special teamer so they tried to practice squad him until McPhee left. And then boom, snatched up from the practice squad and gone. You better believe they were hoping to use his pass rushing ability once Pernell cashed out of Baltimore, and you better believe they won't make that mistake again. Waller makes the 53 man roster unless he flops hard in the next 3 months
  17. The most recent article said Engram spent a lot of time working with Waller so far in rookie mini camps. I feel like I read somewhere that Engram really wanted Waller to be drafted by us so this might be a good sign. Could be that Bobby sees the potential and is determined to make sure Waller makes the 53 man roster. Either way, Engram's been great for the team so far so I'm excited about this
  18. So he's Elam but a better tackler? I'd take that actually. Keep in mind the history of the Ravens defense. Players just look better here than with other teams. We see them leave all the time and either look worse immediately or in their second year of being gone. Scott, Thomas, Kruger, Landry, even Reed, etc. Even in this system, Elam looks worse than Cyprien
  19. I disagree with the bold. His rookie year, to me, wasn't promising. All I recall was talk about him having to play out of his natural position as a reason why he looked so bad and was beaten left and right. Then he got moved to SS and managed to actually get worse. How does a player actually get moved to his natural position and get worse??? Some people compare it to Jimmy and say "well, J.Smith didn't look as promising until his 3rd season also" but there's a huge difference to me. Outside of battling injuries and that Chargers game in 2011, Jimmy actually looked promising. He was never flat out beat or out of position, he just had one huge flaw in his game which was turning his head to locate the ball. His coverage was always very good and that's what you ask of a CB to start. Elam's tackling was his only saving grace in 2013 and he managed to get immensely worse in that aspect in 2014. I will admit bias as I never liked the Elam pick from day one. I wanted Jonathan Cyprien although I haven't followed him at all to see if he's been better but I can't imagine he hasn't been. Until proven otherwise, Elam is a bust to me
  20. Faulker (are you on the mudncleats message boards also?), I disagree with this assessment of weapons. Boldin, Mason, Houshmanzadeh. All the same WR, just different heights, just possession guys. Considering Cam ran an Air Coryell offense, not having a deep receiver actually hurt Joe. A strong armed, aggressive QB regulated to waiting forever for old, slow, receivers to run deep while also having a bad o-line. Stallworth - used for more end arounds than actual deep plays. When he did run a route, 50% were short routes. Cam was out thinking himself. Dickson/Pitta - had a combined 38 targets all season This is definitely the best weapons Joe's ever had, if for no other reason than Trestman will actually use his players properly and will actually send his speed guy(s) deep as opposed to mainly using them for gimmick end arounds while sending the slow guys 30+ yards downfield
  21. KLM has been on the team 2 years, not 3, but I agree with your feelings on him. I've been excited for him to play also but he's just too injury prone. It's not even small injuries, all serious leg injuries. If he doesn't play this year he's done as a Raven. Haven't heard anything on Wagner. It would hurt to not have him but at least Hurst should be better than he was last year. Or they could kick Yanda out again and put Urschel inside until Rick returns
  22. Oh don't get me wrong, I don't think it's all that important at all, to be honest. It was just being heavily talked about for some reason. As you said, big receivers don't usually have quickness. V.Jax, Megatron, Marshall, A.Johnson, Floyd, etc/ All established, some faster than others, none all that quick. For me, Waller has speed, very good hands, size, ability to high point a pass, and the willingness to fight for a pass. There is honestly no reason we shouldn't at minimum use him like Pittsburgh used Bryant. No matter how poor of a route runner he may or may not be, running a straight line and catch a pass shouldn't be hard and with his measurables, it would be very hard to stop. He can improve his routes as he gains experience
  23. Nah, Peters was on the board. I think it was Ozzie who said Peters, Dupree, and Perriman were the last players on their board that were 1st round quality and that they got nervous after Peters and Dupree were picked. To answer the question, I wouldn't be surprised if Perriman was ranked higher than Dupree due to his position being a bigger need. I'd bet though that Peters would have been drafted had all three fell to Baltimore
  24. I agree with this. Torrey made his living off speed alone as his hands were always questionable and his route running always bad, yet he was good for us. Waller has speed (although less "quickness), much better hands, and he's huge. If he gets just 2-4 deep attempts a game I think he'll do damage until he can improve his overall game. Only thing is, he's a 6th rounder. If he was 1st, 2nd, or 3rd you'd know for a fact he'd get chances. He'll get a chance as a later round guy but he'll also be given up on quicker if it comes to that
  25. In terms of the Bengals, the Ravens record against them is telling Before Joe got a deep threat in 2011, he was 3-3 against them. After joe got a deep threat in 2011, he has been 4-3 against them with 2 of those losses being last season in those last minute defensive collapses. Even with the turnovers, with Joe actually having a deep threat on the team, the Ravens have faired better. Keep in mind week 1 last season was the first time in a new offense, with new players, and a new o-line that hadn't gotten into sync at all (which we later saw). Cincy is a good team but I just have no reason to believe we can't beat them. Disclaimer: the 2012 regular season finally wasn't counted since Joe threw 8 passes on 1 or 2 drives before being pulled
