  1. They have to play within their perceived skill level though. For example, in his prime Chris McAlister played close because he knew he could successfully jam the receiver and that he had the recovery speed to catch up if he didn't. Samari Rolle played off because he knew speed wasn't his best friend but his reaction time to shorter routes was top notch. A DC would be stupid to tell a CB to play at a specific distance if that CB isn't comfortable there. Now an argument can be made for the type of coverage being called. It's extremely rare to see a CB close to the line on a cover 1 or cover 0 unless they are extremely confident in themselves. So I can see arguments about Pees not calling enough over the top coverage that will allow CBs to play closer, but not that he's telling them to play x amount of yards off
  2. Because I see this mentioned a lot, do people not realize that the DC doesn't tell corners how far or close to line up?
  3. I'm sure they would, but they may decide to use it on Pitta now. Personally, I'm not one of the people excited about Pitta's return but the coaches seem to be
  4. He's cleared to practice but not cleared for contact as of yet. He'll be doing walk throughs only
  5. So far I've only read that Elam will miss several weeks. Well it's 3 weeks until week 1. I guess it will come down to how many weeks after that he's expected to miss. With a three week cushion, a 6 week injury is manageable
  6. Was it him? I thought it was Correa?
  7. Thank you. I bet everyone was wrong on Perriman. I know I was
  8. What thread was that over/under for injured players on? I wonder how many got some of these right
  9. Webb not playing would explain why I don't remember him getting beat.
  10. I'm curious about this. I remember Jimmy being ahead of Cary and all depth charts before week 1 that I can find show that (although they are hard to find). Cary got the start because Jimmy had a high ankle sprain on the opening kick off and by the time he was healthy again, Williams and Webb were pretty much dominating. He did get abused by Rivers mid-season, but so did everyone sans Webb
  11. Yeah, I don't get the Perriman hate either. People will call him a slow healer and at the same time say Harbaugh lied to everyone or the medical staff misdiagnosed him. They gave him an 8 week recovery window, and now he's running. Maybe, just maybe, the coaches are being cautious. We did all just read how Suggs was ready to go long before John gave the okay, even going as far as to take his conditioning test behind everyone's back, right? The level of hate and doubt Perriman has received is pathetic. Urban and Campanaro received less criticism after missing missing their second years than Perriman gets for missing just one. Well, maybe not Campanaro but I digress
  12. Pitta - After Doom - Before SSS - Way after Perriman - After
  13. Pretty much this. Unless the Lions are in a hurry to get someone in there to practice asap, there's no reason for them not to just wait and save a draft pick. I can't see the Ravens trading any of their TEs anyway. At best Daniel Brown is the only option and he's a complete unknown at the position.
  14. Stuff like this is why I end up defending Pees more than I'd like to. I can't recall a Ravens DC who had a defense as consistently injured as Pees. 2011, 2008, 2006, 2003, and 2000 Ravens defenses all feature a common theme. Relatively good health by the starters
  15. Not a Pees fan, but to be fair, some of those problem defenses you attributed to his play calling on the other thread he wasn't even the DC for. It's really hard for me to blame a guy for a defense when that defense is lacking true talent. Most people loved Rex, but that 07 defense was garbage due to injury and a few players from 06 departing. Pagano was the man in 2011 but his Colts defenses have been behind the Pees led Ravens defense in both scoring and yards every year since he's been there (minus the scoring defense of 2013). Personnel really matters as much, if not more, than the play calling
  16. Basically, "if Forsett doesn't have the best ypc numbers in the league then Ozzie sucks". Mentioning his number as a backup and situational player (meaning defenses don't key in on him) is faulty. Back in 06 when Tomlinson was breaking the NFL record, his backup, Michael Turner, had more than a full yard more per carry. I think he finished the season at 6.4 ypc vs Tomlinson's 5.2 or so. In fact, I think Turner stayed over 5 ypc his entire time as a backup but never once exceeded that as a starter.
  17. Yeah, at one point I thought Forsett was a potential cut but as of now, I see him as a Raven throughout 2016. He'll be cut next season if Allen, West, or Dixon show enough promise this year. As stated, there's really nothing to gain from cutting Justin this year as the team doesn't really need the money
  18. I never like to defend Pees, but for the bold sections. 2007 - His defense held a superbowl caliber team/offense to 17 points. 17 points that only happened off the strength of a miracle helmet catch and a CB (Asante I think) letting an INT literally go through his hands. 2010 - Yeah, we gave up a nice second half lead to the Steelers in that divisional game.......but the DC was Mattison, not Pees Pees was LB coach and idk how much blame he can take for a secondary not covering. 2011 - The decent unit that lost it had Pagano calling the shots. I'm not a fan of Pees either, but you must really dislike him to blame him for games he wasn't the DC of lol
  19. 1. Not a huge price tag, but is it something Baltimore would be willing to do where the question comes in. One team being willing to overpay a 2 down player doesn't mean the Ravens will 2. It does when they also have to resign their RT and get a contract for a player like Aiken. SSS is done after this season, Wallace is likely a 1 year stop gap unless he balls out, and Perriman is still an unknown. Aiken is, sadly, the most reliable WR on the team right now and you definitely retain your QBs weapons and protection over a run stopper 3. It's not like we haven't seen Davis and Jernigan both play the nose position just last season. That and we don't really run the 3-4 100% of the time anyway. I'm a huge fan of Brandon Williams and would love to see him stay. Minus any carry over, we're looking to go into the next off season with about 5M in cap space (before any moves are made). There are so many other players I could see that money going to before him. Wagner, Aiken, another FA WR, possibly another CB, will Webb work out or will we need another safety, etc. I see Williams hitting the free agent market......unless he's willing to take 6-7M per year.
  20. I don't think the Ravens are worried about having to overpay him for a few reasons. 1. He's shown no real pass rush skills. Pass rushers get the big money in the front 7, run stoppers don't. 2. As a run stopper, he's unfortunately on a team that's consistently stopped the run since 96. There's been no better run defending team in that time. Baltimore won't struggle to find another run stopping DT. 3. Willie Henry and Carl Davis. The former is supposed to be a pretty good interior pass rusher, the latter isn't bad at stopping the run at all. Both are backups right now. Honestly, I already expect one of them to replace B.Will on obvious passing situations as it is, so it won't be surprising to see one in his place next year. At this point, I'm pretty sure they aren't even thinking about paying Williams this season. If he plays out his mind then it'll be a positive for the team during the season and they let him walk (after giving an offer he will bypass for top dollar somewhere else). If he has a down season then the team will still survive it during the year and the front office can retain him for cheaper. Personally, I think he walks next year
  21. What QB puts up 4500 yards, 40 TDs, and less than 14 INTs and gets faulted for playoff collapses unless said QB is part of the collapse? Dalton's playoff totals are 55% completions, 1 TD, 6 INTs. You can definitely put all the blame on him as he's been a complete liability to his team at the most important position. Comparatively, Sanchez in the post season is sitting at 60%, 9 TDs, and 3 INTs. Sanchez has HELPED his team in January, regardless of how bad he's been in the months prior. Some QBs step up when it matters, some don't Fantast football QBs aren't always good playoff QBs. Bad fantasy QBs can still be good QBs in the post season
  22. i think all the talk about contracts supposedly equaling talent is and always has been a reach. There's simply an NFL market per positon. Matt Ryan has a higher contract than Brady and Brees, does that imply he's better? I live in Atlanta and even the natives don't think that. If you do want to compare, since the 2010 season, Joe's playoff performance is top 3 on that list and in the NFL. The only players in his realm are Rodgers and Brees (Brees is the playoff performance messiah). Add in that Joe's done it with constantly changing players around him at skill positions and not one big superstar among them. No Nelson, Brown, or Gronk. That's probably a huge reason the front office has no issues paying him. I don't honestly think Joe's top 5, but he's definitely top 10. People focus on the superbowl run, but Joe's done a lot more than just that. He was carried to post season victories in 2008 and 2009, but he's been a big factor since. That's more than just one playoff run
  23. Oh, so this year is David Carr speaking negatively on Joe? Okay, check 2016 off. Any early predictions on who it will be in 2017?
  24. I remember that as just being a game tying play, not so much a game winner. And it was also the divisional round. The Jets were good that year, knocking off both the Peyton led Colts and the Brady led Pats then giving Ben his worst game of the year so there's no guarantee we beat them in the AFC championship. On topic, my favorite is a tie between Reed, Heap, and Suggs. Reed was dangerous at all times. Heap was a true Raven, doing what he was told and doing it well. And Suggs is probably the most entertaining player to every wear a Ravens jersey, from a personality standpoint
  25. I wonder if this opens up a door for Waller at WR again. Because I can't see him making the team at TE. Also, interesting to see people already saying we won't make the playoffs now because of no Perriman......after spending all last year calling Perriman a bust anyway. It's really obvious who just likes to complain. Meanwhile, I'll still pretend we have Mike Wallace, Chris Moore, and another 2+ months to fill in any needed gaps because, well, we do.
