  1. i understand the dislike of it as the player for the lack of security a long term contract offers. Lets say they play terrible all year to "avoid" injury who is going to pay them the following free agency for a poor season? pretty sure most players are known to perform better on their last year of a contract.  tagging wont make Monroe play worse is all im saying.

    Probably not, but it usually makes the player hold out of training camp. With a whole new offense going in this year, we need our players in camp.

  2. A restructure converts salary to signing bonus so it can be prorated over the remaining years of the contract. It essentially makes subsequent years even worse regarding the cap. That's why it is referred to as "kicking the can down the road". An extension adds years to the contract and thus spreads the cap hit out over more years.
