I'd be curious to see if offensive-minded head coaches actually produce better offenses, and if defensive-minded head coaches actually produce better defenses.
Joe will have an excellent chance to better next year because somebody better than James Hurst will be playing left tackle; and that could be almost anybody.
Not that I don't love having Justin Tucker, but you can't just sign someone to a big, long-term contract without thinking about what other part of the team you could improve with that money. If Tucker ends up wanting $4 million per year more than an average kicker, the Ravens have to ask themselves if that $4 million dollars is *best* spent on keeping Tucker, or if it would help the team more overall to put it to another use (resigning Yanda, picking up a free-agent wide receiver, etc.). I'm not sure that spending premium money on a kicker is the best decision.
Honestly, I wouldn't care if Melvin takes Webb's starting spot. Best man for the job. Put the best 11 on defense on the field to win the game, if that's Melvin, so be it.
BTW, can they come up w/ something more original than Melvin's Island??
I don't think Melvin's progressed to island status: How about Melvin's Isthmus? ![]()

Wouldn't Dexter McCluster be a better choice?
