He was a first round draft pick, and just coming off essentially his rookie season. He needs at least this next season to develop. Either he will evolve or he won't, but it's not gonna happen overnight.
It would truly be great if Perriman developed, became the #1 receiver we've all been looking for and then weaning the team of the WR handicap we've had for the longest time.

With Pitta, Joe became complacent just assuming as long as he didn't peel his eyes from Pitta and threw him a dart, it would be a completion. It didn't quite work out well for Flacco who threw plenty of INTs while focused on Pitta and making it obvious to even the not smart defensive players where Flacco was going. Without Pitta, Flacco will improve because he'll learn to see the whole field before making gut wrenching and bone headed decisions in throwing INTs on the goal line with the game on the line! We'll also save some cap space and give Maxx Williams to develop into that TE who was drafted in the 2nd round.
So.....in order to improve him, you cut the receiver from the team he has the most chemistry with, over the course of several years? Instead of just telling him not to throw to him all the time.
After reading this, I kinda get the logic in keeping Marty around and my one hope was that he can use these next 7 months to drum up a better playbook since he's got the time now. The fact that other players like him, according to the article, is also helpful.
That being said I REALLY hope Harbaugh doesn't come to regret this.

And who to replace Joe? Lots of people wanna cut Joe but hardly any have a realistic replacement for him. More importantly, that's a lot of dead money if we do so....not a smart idea.

Don't forget his tenure as a head coach for the Lions, where he won a grand total of 5 games over the course of 2 seasons.
3-2 with Trestman
5-6 with Mornhinweg
Writing that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

Good, because something actually has to happen first.

I'd even take Lane Kiffin at this point. Did I really say that, Yikes.
Marty's last head coach tenure was 2001-2002 with the Detroit Lions, he was 5-27 in that time period. Before he came here, he spent 2013-2014 with the Jets, and before that he was with the Eagles from 2003-2012, as an assistant and then OC later on.
Dean Pees was never a head coach in the NFL. His last head coaching job was with Kent State from 1998-2003 and then he spent the next 6 years as a defensive coach to the Pats.

With that being said, we need more than just continuity in the coaching ranks, which, I assume is why they took the first step in keeping Mornhinweg. More than that, we need players on the OL who can stay healthy, we need quality depth at certain positions, we need to upgrade at WR in-particular, and we need Joe to have a fully healthy off-season. We had some decent players this year, but as I saw all year, we really need some play makers on the outside who can earn Joe's trust. As much as I want Perriman to succeed, he really needs to improve his hands and route running, or else he will flame-out in short order.
Funny you mention that, because I did like a lot of what I saw from Perriman this year. I like that he actually can produce good catches, has speed and notched a couple of TDs finally, as a 1st round pick should do. At the same time, he needs a lot more consistency because some days he was doing great and others he wasn't, dropping passes that hit him right in the numbers. Though I guess this could be chalked up to him still playing his rookie season and is learning as the game goes on. Oh well, 2017's a whole new year so I'm praying that he emerges into that big WR that the Ravens desperately needed and maybe even get this monkey off our back when it comes to drafting wideouts.
I'm hoping that someone is grilling Mornhinweg about using a playbook that's actually good next year. Since now he's got 7 months to work on it.

It is apparent to the entire football viewing world that Harbaugh is only going to hire his good buddies as coaches, and hope that they will somehow pull a rabbit out of their butt and all of a sudden become good coordinators. Anyone that watches Raven games can see the problem for what it is. The offensive line is one of the weakest in the NFL, and not only do they not pass protect, but they are unable to create holes for the RB's. Flacco has about as much leadership ability as Elmer Fudd. He does nothing to inspire his team mates, and just does not have that fire in the belly that all great Quarterbacks possess. Defensively, there is not a team in the NFL that fears playing them. If the little sisters of the poor had a football team with a QB that could deliver deliver passes, they would salivate over the chance to play against this secondary. Pass rush, what pass rush? And Harbaughs answer is to keep his buddies employed, give me a break. Good luck Raven fans, I'm done.
And yet you claim you're a longtime Ravens fan.

That's 'cause Brees and co. have a pretty good offense and OC as a whole and they don't throw nearly as many checkdowns, and their whole offense has been in the top 5 ranking almost every year.
14 minutes ago, whobilly said:I'm a Flacco Supporter but it feels like he got 4,000 yards on 1,000 passes.
You're kinda right, he had the 2nd most pass attempts in the league, right behind Drew Brees. And both QBs are sitting at home for the playoffs once again.
I guess I'm "pleased" with the offense in the sense that Flacco eclipsed 4000 passing yards for the first time. Other than that, not a lot to write home about.
My one hope is that Mornhinweg torches this year's playbook and makes a whole new, improved better one. One that plays to Flacco's strengths.

I can only hope they get rid of this year's playbook and they actually make a new, better one than this year. That's my only hope.
Seems like we'll be keeping Mornhinweg next year
With the exception of Webb, none of those potential cap-casualties would bother me too much if they went elsewhere. Shareece Wright can go and Matt Elam......yeah.
I just want this team to finally rid itself of the WR handicap that's plagued it basically the whole franchise.

Soon to be 5 in a row. It's almost like a rivalry now.
Amazing how 2017 will be the 5th year in a row we've played the Dolphins and the 4th year in a row we play the Jaguars.
13 minutes ago, ellicottraven said:The question really is how well were they doing with the Ravens?
Under Pagano as our DC which was 2011, the Ravens were 3rd in the league in total defense, ranked as 2nd in run defense and 4th in passing defense. We ended up going 12-4, won the division, had a home playoff game and were a Lee Evans-dropped pass away from going to the Super Bowl.
Rex Ryan's story with us as DC should be obvious to everyone.
Guess we'll be drafting another WR since Steve Smith says his last game will be Sunday.
Let's all not forget that the Steelers put up a whopping 10 points for the first 3 quarters of the game. Then come 4th quarter they went down for TDs on 3 drives and we did nothing to stop them.

He was a good 1st round pick, with good production and I can only imagine next year when he plays a full 16-game season.
