  1. Thank God we're putting our players on natural grass for home games going forward. You can't prevent foot and ankle injuries, but you can certainly reduce the likelihood of them happening. Grass goes a long way in that regard.
  2. Now that Cleveland's drought is over, the next drought city on the list (+2 major sports teams) is Cincinnati (would be Milwaukee but we'll give 'em the Packers). Twenty-six years since they've brought a championship home. All eyes are on you, Bungals.
  3. At the time that we signed Monroe, Ozzie's only other option would have been to give a big contract to Michael Oher who had been pretty terrible up to that point (countless false starts aside) and he then went on to be terrible for the Titans. There aren't that many options in free agency at left tackle and there's always a risk given the amount the position pays. That's why you really have to take your shot and get a top-talent in the draft whenever you're in a position to. Ronnie Stanley has the brain, talent and maturity that it takes to be successful at that position. Despite the talent of Laremy Tunsil, I wouldn't be nearly as confident in his ability to handle the pressure of being that high first round draft pick and starting week 1. You need the complete package when getting a guy at left tackle. Yanda and Juan Castillo are going to get him ready. He'll make a few mistakes, but clearly the coaching staff thinks he's a quick enough learner to improve on those game to game or they wouldn't have cut Monroe. I always trust Ozzie on this sort of thing.
  4. Vastly different production history from those two guys. We dumped Q right after he took Joe and company to the promise land. Monroe hasn't done anything even close to that. The only thing we're going to regret is extending him his contract in the first place.
  5. The future starts now. Clearly the front office believes Ronnie is motivated enough to maximize his own potential without any clear competition.
  6. If it's not already there, please move his locker over next to Webb's for moral support.
  7. I wouldn't count on it. That's both ankles. Last I recall, we have another defensive player that tore both ACLs and has never been able to regain form (and he's 30). The other elephant in the room is losing Upshaw and thinking that we can somehow keep these two veterans fresh enough to terrorize QBs on third down. Maybe if we get Myles Jack, but that's highly doubtful. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we're trading back...
  8. He's plan A. You don't pay that much money for anything but a clear starter. Other than having Ed Reed's top-end speed (though he's still pretty fast), Weddle has everything that we miss about the days of having #20 roaming the back of our defense. He's one of those guys that becomes an offensive player the moment he picks the ball off and I love that he brings it back the other way no matter where he is on the field - even if in the endzone. The guy is supremely confident in his abilities which is what you have to have as a free safety. He sees it and then turns it loose without hesitation. Him and Will Hill are going to be nasty together.
  9. Looks like someone is having a little bit of fun on Dean Pees' Wikipedia page. "On October 12th 2015 the Ravens fired him due to the inability to call 1 successful play in the 4th quarter vs the 1-3 Browns, like really Dean."
  10. Let us all now watch the Packers sack the heck out of Russell Wilson and take solace in having the same record as the team that was one Marshawn Lynch carry away from being the defending super bowl champions this year. The Ravens need to find themselves this week and absolutely destroy the Bengals at home or we'll be in danger of losing the season before it's barely even got off the ground.
  11. Even if he's healthy enough to go this week, I don't think Breshad will suit up simply because we should want to get him off to a good confident start in the NFL which is much more likely to happen within the comfortable confines of M&T. We need to ground and pound the Raiders. Their d-line is one of the worst in the league so if we can't do that then we have much bigger problems than wide receiver.
  12. In my opinion, Webb has lost the starting job. He just simply can't stay healthy which has rendered his play inconsistent. He'll look great breaking up passes but then on the next play will just get burned down the sideline or completely miss a tackle. Can't win the super bowl on pass rush alone. I hope Melvin just continues to improve throughout the season so that he and Jimmy can get in a groove because you don't want to split reps at corner or really any DB position. Those guys need to build chemistry and non-vocal communication.
  13. People can freak out all they want about Perriman, but he was going to be a long-term project anyway. In the short-term, we have enough pieces to get it done downfield. Oh, and people seem to forget that we're a run first offense and we have a coordinator that knows how to use what's at his disposal to get first downs. RBs are going to be getting the ball in space more than we'll be throwing deep downfield until Perriman returns which could very well be the Denver game. That's been a formula of success for plenty SB-winning teams before. Everyone needs to just chill about Breshad. We aren't rushing our future back to the field because we have depth at receiver. That's why depth is so important and Ozzie never overlooks it. We'll be fine.
  14. Nothing but respect for this man. Just head to toe solid. We simply can't lose him next offseason. Way too much of a leader on the line which is integral to AFC North ball.
  15. "The Ravens are going to have a tough time sneaking up on anyone this season." A tough time? What does that even mean? Teams may sneak up on fans, but never on other teams. Come on, John... Name one week's opponent that the Ravens didn't put in 100% effort preparing for in the past 20 years due to media rankings? Parody in the NFL ensures that teams take every opponent seriously, no matter who the coaching staff is. All these guys know each other from their college days and talent is scattered everywhere. Being an underdog by the media doesn't give you the benefit of your opponent marking a 'W' on their calendar and just resting the week leading up to game time. That doesn't happen anywhere ever in the NFL where the entire field is ultra-competitive. The bottom line is that rankings can't IMPACT the outcome of the game. Let's not start thinking in a vacuum here. It's sports. The objective is to win. Everybody has the film. Nobody is sneaking up on anyone.
  16. As compared to the other organization just down I-95...
  17. You can win a Lombardi with a good offense, a good defense and mediocre return game. DO NOT PUT WEBBY OR JIMMY BACK THERE. So not worth the risk. Webb has one punt returned for a touchdown in his career. He isn't all of a sudden going to turn into Jacoby Jones for us. LOOK ELSEWHERE.
  18. Usually by over-training your hamstring. Quad can't fire as quickly to keep up with that jacked up hammy and you tear it running full speed.
  19. We'll know much more about Elam when the pads come on. He needs to show significant improvement wrapping guys up in the open field and getting receivers out of bounds. It's definitely a confidence thing. When you look at how confidently CJ Mosley moves in when he's made up his mind to take someone down, he does not miss. We need Elam to be the same way this year, or he can't be trusted in the playoffs again.
  20. The Forsett deal was easily the best value move we've made in recent memory. Eight years spent honing his craft while not wearing his body out or getting injured, and now we get to throw two young backs into the mix to learn from his technique and work ethic. Forsett's shiftiness and elusiveness are sorely underrated. Trestman has got to be pleased with the three guys he has to work with. Oh, and let's not forget about Juice. I see some seriously good chemistry brewing between the three young guys and the elder statesman that's just now hitting his prime. As it stands right now, our entire team looks so well-rounded. Primed to take the entire AFC. Another pass rusher would be nice, but I'm expecting Upshaw to turn into a freak this year. Now just get Yanda and Tucker extended!
  21. Not a big deal. He'll be back for training camp. Other teams have been bit much worse already. Just today, Broncos all-pro left tackle Ryan Clady tore his ACL and is out for the season. Count your blessings and knock on wood. So far, so good.
  22. Mad Maxx gets the most votes? People, we're wittier than that. This isn't Pittsburgh.
  23. What was great about extra points being automatic? NOBODY missed those kicks, like ever. 2-point conversions are still up at the 2 yard line. I don't see how anyone who doesn't like being bored would oppose this. They could have just taken away extra points altogether. This makes having a good kicker that much more important. It makes the game more challenging. It's a good thing.
  24. Maxx Williams reminds me of the "Gingers have souls!" kid, just older and way more athletic.
  25. I'm fine with all the sacks going to the guys under contract. I really don't want us losing Courtney to free agency a year from now. That guy plays like a Raven. Roll tide!
