1. On Joe: It’s time to start thinking about the Ravens future QB. Joe is not accurate, he does not read defense very well, and he is turning over the football. He needs everything around him to be in place in order for him to be successful (A good O-line, a good run game, a good OC, good receivers, vets to provide emotional spark, and a great defense to minimize the impact of his mistakes).
The issue is his salary prevents the front office from having all of that in place at the same time. Either through draft or free agency, bring someone in to push him and look to the future.
9 years, 5 OCs, 0 excuses left.
2. On Coaching: I think Marty play called his way out of being the OC for next season. When your coach goes in front of the press and says ‘worst call ever’, then you are going to lose your job. I don’t give John credit for taking responsibility because he threw Marty under the bus while doing it.
He talked about vetoing the play call. His staff should be smart, aware of the situation, and in sync with the game plan.
3. Defense: Eagles front man-handled the Ravens defense in the run game. That’s our strength and they shredded us on the ground.
Williams, Guy, Jernigan did not make a case for breaking the bank to keep them after that butt whipping. It had nothing to do with play calling. Eagle’s offensive line just pushed them around. They need to turn it around.
Teams that break the bank on DT do not do well (JJ Watt- Texans, Haynesworth-Skins, Suh-Dolphins). None of them managed to be a perennial playoff team or win a Superbowl.
I hope we keep at least Williams, but Front office is already overpaying too many guys.
4. Front office: Too many 1st and 2nd round guys not making an impact on this team. OZ always rely on vets to keep team competitive to cover-up the poor drafts by him and DeCosta.
First it was injuries, then lacking playmakers. This season makes me believe it has been the coaching all along. If the Ravens miss the playoffs, what will they say?
5. Ravens vs Steelers doesn’t get any better with playoffs on the line. Better coaching and QB play would have prevented this situation, but it is what it is.
Pretty much agree. There are too many players in key positions getting "too long in the tooth" for football and the drafting has been a weak point for some years. There must be at least a partial rebuilding and the sooner the better. Just don't know if the current FO is also getting "too long in the tooth" to pull that one off. If they don't make the playoffs this year one could expect some big changes up and down the team chart although Harbaugh should be one of the few that should be safe.
If Jimmy Smith does not play against steelers or CIncy, we have no chance
IMO your are way over rating the performance of Jimmy Smith and I would offer to you the PFF ratings on him as my rational. He is no better than a league average performer and on most game days he does not even reach average grades for CB's ....
He's still better then our alternatives don't you think?
Without a doubt!
The Ravens will find a way to squander it away and lose at least 2 of the last 3 games and blow the playoff chances again. Harbaugh is going to be canned after the Bengals game. Mark it down in sharpie. If Ozzie was smart, he would find a way to get rid of Flacco in the offseason and get a competent QB in here to play some actual football. 85% of his passes and under 5 yards. That is a clueless quarterback who cannot read of bait a defense into any successful play.
and who would you suggest be our new head coach and new QB?
Probably Jeff Fisher & Case Keenum :)
Think the Ravens should give Floyd a look see? Whoever takes a flyer on him has got to get him into an AA program, pronto. Nowadays his problem is looked upon as a disease but he has to be the one to "grab the Bull by the horns", if you will. The clock is ticking on him and he'll be lucky to get another chance. What a shame such a gifted athlete could throw away a career that 99.5% of the worlds population can only dream about. This poster wishes him all the best in fighting this disease but, once again, only he can make the commitment to control it.
Why not bring up Reynolds..
Why not indeed.
The one thing that concerns me is if the weather is not good and we have to rely on the run. Do we have enough power to win that way? I'm not sure where the Pats stand against the run. Anyone help me?
They rank #10 but in the last three games they were third.
Pitta is by far the best TE on the team. Good to see Perriman show why he was drafted no.1. Go Ravens.
BINGO!!
It was a hybrid type "no huddle", more like an approach audible and some under center play action. Here we see how this offense will operate at its strongest. Flacco played Elite and he was more than good enough today! Beautiful. Defense nice job mixing it up, used some of the young guys and rotated well. One critique, Powers you need to stay on your toes, don't get caught flat footed and let the receiver get behind you with room. Its happened more than once this year!
Good observation! Powers is a weakness. When they see him in they attack! But this can be a good thing because Webb should now know what to do always help over the top on Powers side? Never leave him one on one! wright is the same way! Now my little gem Young! Beasty Boy! I was scared when I saw him go down?
Webb has been clueless for years now. And good corners are as hard to find as good quarter backs. Kinda like in base ball everyone needs starting pitching and in the NFL everyone needs starting corners. Very few teams have them. Hot commodity, better nail one in the first round or just get plain out lucky.
Webb didn't look clueless on that INT.. Wright is the clueless one.
I think Wright is the best 3rd corner we've had for a while. He's way better than Ivy or Brown.
Powers is better than Wright.
You don't say.
As the late great Ralph Kramden(Jackie Gleason) so aptly put it..."How sweet it is"
The dynamic duo. Let's turn it up fellas and the Ravens can have their own version of Batman & Robin.
Yes, Baltman and Raven !
Much, much better, :)
The dynamic duo. Let's turn it up fellas and the Ravens can have their own version of Batman & Robin.
The main difference between the 2000 crew and today's is the front of yesteryear had 4 legit. D lineman, with the two beefcakes in the middle and McCary & Burnett on the ends as pass rushers. Of course having a Ray Lewis patrolling from sideline to sideline behind them didn't hurt as well. This week will be The big test for our D.
How 'bout dem Ravens Hons. Alright, it's only the Browns but they're all pros and on any given....
No one should be shocked if the Ravens lose tomorrow. Its going to be this week or Steeler next week the Browns win a game. Also, Should start calling Flacco. Check down Joe
We should definitely put all the blame on Joe - especially when receivers can't get open or better yet when they drop passes.
Flacco looks to be in decline. He throws more off target passes now than completions.
AND, to the wrong players- even when he is not that hurried
QB in the draft should be a high priority. However, that's only the beginning and the start of a rebuilding process is a must!
On the bright side... the Steelers lost, so IF the Ravens can right the ship after the bye then there is hope :) GO RAVENS! CB 25
We are lucky to have the perfect Captain steering the ship in John Harbaugh. We just need patience!
He can only do so much with what's been provided him. Even the great ones have to have the horses and the FO has failed to deliver in that dept.
Harbaugh: In the beginning he was winning with Billick's draft class and veterans, as well as was handed Flacco (Only piece Billick was missing) and Ray Rice and went on to win the bowl. Once Harbaugh cleared out Billick's guys and got rid of the other hard nose players, we only drafted "safe players" and had a history of being very unsatisfied with the coordinators. The common factor is that 85-90% of the things we don't like is a direct product of Harbaugh's team direction. It's time we go in a new direction because every single game is exactly the same, we barely win, we barely lose. It's becoming very insane to expect anything different from a Harbaugh lead team.
The draft in the last few years has been a weak spot for the R's. Add to that most of the so called impact players are now in their 30's and well on the way to retirement. A Coach can only go with what's given to him by the FO which try's to keep plugging holes with older, named players who have seen their better days. They may shortly have to come to the realization that a rebuilding project is in the immediate future and that would be better accomplished by a change in the FO.
So you think during the draft and before hand that Harbaugh is in never never land making no decisions on which players he wants to coach out of the gathered talent the FO presents to him.... If that's the case that's another reason he should be gone, he can't be counted on to help bring the right players in. But that's not the case, these weak draft classes are people he signed off on.
No he's not in never, never land but one can be assured he's not the final say whom gets drafted and the top priority thereof. He's just one cog in the final determination and his job description is to coach the team and not be the final determinative factor at all. That's the job of the FO and while they may seek his advice he'll be overruled in a heartbeat if the FO is enamored with someone. Also, once again, the holes they're filling with over the hill players lies squarely with the FO, period. He's even stated on more than one occasion that he's given the players to work with and his job is to try and make the best out of it. When you have a 37 yr old WR who is obviously hurt and at the end of his playing days and 30 something LB's who either can't pressure the QB or can't even get on the field, as is with case of Elvis, that falls on the FO. Now Satnley's hurt: that BYU fella is out for the year; Perriman is not living up to all the hype; and the lack of depth is, once again this year, all too apparent. That is not the fault of the coach but the FO. He may take the hit for this but he'll be hired by someone else in a football minute. It's highly doubtful any replacement will do any better unless there's a change in philosophy.

Very, very nice indeed. That certainly does put things in the proper perspective Coach!
Hope everyone is happy now. Anyone else you want fired? I am being sarcastic of course. Something had to give and unfortunately it was Trestman. Let's get on the stick and win some games.
They'll be happy when we win the games we are supposed to win. Firing Trestman was the responsibility of the coaches, not the fans. And it wasn't a matter of whether we wanted him fired or not. He HAD to be fired.
One can be reasonably assured that decision came right from the very top. The last time an O coordinator was fired was also after a loss to the Redskins and the Ravens went on to win the SB. We should be so lucky this time!
The lack of pass rush stood out glaringly and Carr had all day to throw. The blame can't be solely blamed on the DB's. One thing is becoming clearer by the week...Elvis & Terrell are showing their ages and the backups aren't stepping up to the fore. With that BYU fella out for the year and Stanley now hurt it might have been advisable to go D with that # 4 pick.
Follow the leader. Looks like Mr. Weddle will have a career in coaching after his playing days are over. That, of course, is unless the broadcast booth beckons instead.
What a pickup the Tuckman was. That kick would have been good from 60+.

Absolutely should have scored. It was a total melt down of our D which happened all too often in the second half of the season. The D in critical spots is getting too old and things have to change going forward. No more trying to plug in holes with 30 something's. They should draft with the goal of a rebuilding job on D and my personal take is to jettison the 3-4 and go back to the 4-3, with 4 legit. D lineman. LB's posing a D lineman trying to push around players who are 50 lbs. heavier is not and will not get the job done of sacking the QB!
