  1. Look, I said it last week but it bears repeating. The argument about not having a statue for Ogden or Marchetti or Raymond Berry when talking about Ed Reed doesn't hold water for this reason. Ed Reed is a position-defining player. Ogden is ONE OF the best tackles among a plethora. Marchetti was a dominating Defensive end among Deacon Jones and Youngblood down to Reggie White and now Watt. Raymond Berry one could make an argument for because Unitas and Berry had their timing patterns down to a science while everyone else was still swinging from trees. But the story of free safety-dom cannot be told without Ed Reed. He defines what it means to be a ball-hawk. What it means to truly "play center field." Ravens fans can be faulted for being homers, but I dare-say even if you poll fans from around the country, they'll agree that he was a once-in-a-several-lifetimes type of player. His legacy should not be overshadowed just because he lined up behind #52.
  2. In the few videos I've seen of him he certainly looks the part. Plays with the aggression of a Raven. I wish for long, healthy, happy careers for all these kids.
  3. This is tragic tragic news. Wish the best for the kid and his family and a speedy, full recovery. Hopefully guys like Pitta, KLM and Brent Urban can walk him through it and make sure he keeps his spirits up.
  4. I agree, that is a concern. I'm thinking the organization has had this debate internally as well. If the criteria is simply any guy that's in the HOF then where do you draw the line on guys that only played a few years for us that are in the Hall (i.e. Rod Woodson, Shannon Sharpe, Deion Sanders)? If it's guys that played their entire careers here then why Reed over Ogden? If it's only "iconic" players that definite the story of Baltimore Football then Unitas and Lewis make sense, but why not Reed? He was a big part of establishing Baltimore as a defensive juggernaut along with Lewis. But by this criteria it's impossible for an offensive lineman like Ogden to get a statued, since they aren't playmakers, but definitely game changers. Ultimately it's a nebulous definition.
  5. Anyone interested in a petition to get Ed Reed a statue at the Bank?
  6. Whereas with Ray it was a no brainer to give him a statue I think us fans will have to start a campaign to get Ed one. It's not his fault that his time on the team coincided with the best MLB to ever play the game. Our minds have to be desciplined enough to realize that Ed Reed in his own right is a once-in-a-generation, iconicplayer. And that's not Ravens homers talking. The most true praise is that which your opponents lavish on you, because they have no incentive to respect you. But if your play and effort and impact is so awe-inspiring that EVEN your opponents are forced to respect it, clearly you've earned your place in Valhalla. DO THE RIGHT THING Mr. Bisciotti. Give Eddie and Baltimore his statue next to the General and Johnny U.
  7. If the league goes down the route of game suspension(s) it'd be better to suspend him for playoff games and not regular season games, since that is where they were caught. It'd send a stronger message as well. "You tamper with equipment or bribe staff to tamper with it, your entire season could be flushed down the toilet."
  8. I agree with you there. I'm just gonna dabble is some pscho-analysis here, nothing provable or concrete, just a hunch. I think that Brady, Bellichick and especially Kraft have been desperate to shake off the stink of spygate ever since that scandal broke. Though they'll deny it to their graves, it irks them, Kraft the most, that their previous three Lombardi's come with an asterisk in the mind of many many fans. After spygate, they kept getting close to winning. The almost perfect season ruined. The Giants beat them in another close one. We beat them in the AFC Championship. They had another chance this year to make it and silence all the critics, and what happens? Right on the verge of being vindicated, their hopes get deflated. You could tell all throughout the Super Bowl lead up, even to the point of the presentation of the Lombardi, that Kraft was really ticked off. And you can sense in his words from yesterday that he's incredibly irked that the one Super Bowl that was supposed to finally vidicate them has now been marred by this scandal. But hey, that's the price you pay. Bill may be a great coach, and Tom is a great QB, but fundamentally they have little scoundrels inside their conscience that got fed up with never reaching the mountain top.
  9. Yeah except the league is bigger than just Bellichick, Brady and the Patriots. The argument you're trying to make is like saying people should tune out because one guy used PEDs and wasn't adequately punished or a team like the Seahawks had a few players test positive. There are a host of other players and teams in the league that compete legitimately. It's these few that need to be weeded out and the league does try to weed them out. All we're doing is making sure the league weeds them out.
  10. It's not the first time and won't be the last that someone makes the "we hate them cuz they win" argument. I'd say that just as there are legitimately some people that simply hate the Patriots and Brady and Belichck because they've beaten our team in the past, there are those that equally will embrace a "no criticism of the Pats is legit cuz it's all rooted in resentment" argument. Both are problematic. But in the case of wontonly and repeatedly cheating and pushing the limits of the rulebook, only to have more rules added to an already ridiculously letigous game of American Football - which now looks equal parts judicial procedure as athletic competition - is doing considerable damage to the integrity of the game. Just look at the confusion and drama that unfolded Super Bowl week. Such an embarassment to the NFL. You've got Pete Carroll saying he had private conversations with Blandino saying they've discussed new signals for the refs. Then people react saying it's not fair to change signals and rules on the fly in the middle of a season. And then later that day Blandino publicly starts arguing and correcting the head ref saying there won't be any new signals. It's a mess. We're the majority of owners 'just mad cuz they win' when they chose to ban the ineligible receiver ruse? And on the deflated balls. The previous poster is right, deliberatly rigging the very equipment that the game is played with is at least equally harmful to the integrity of the game and fair competition as players using PEDs.

  12. The Pats are just such a slimy organization. No one needs to guess at their attitude towards these gray area matters and their propensity towards 'pushing the envelope' on the rules. They can deny deflategate all they want, but the entire world witnessed their shenanigans against us. Is that football? Is that the kind of football us fans want played? Clearly not considering the owners stomped out that BS the first chance they got. This is the lasting legacy of the Bellichick/Brady era. More rules in reaction to the equivalent of an annoying smart-aleck dork of an organiztion whose desparation to win leads to their golden boy QB kicking Ed Reed in the mistas so he can take his most feared opponent off the field.
  13. End of an era. He's the Greatest Safety of All Time, and it's not even close. This here is just one example of his 64 picks. Bait the QB. Jump the route. Untouchable headed in the other direction. Ignite the crowd. Leave the enemy bewildered... Ed Reed. https://youtu.be/IkVkQ_jNZtg
  14. Cleveland really has some obnoxious reporters.
  15. He's excited!? We're all excited! Have you seen this depth chart!?
  16. Brandon Carr, Leon Hall, Jerraud Powers etc. There were quite a few potential June 1 cut candidates even before we entered the draft. Not to mention, we lost to Brady by 4 points with a decimated secondary. If we won we'd have gone to the Superbowl given the goose egg the Colts laid. We'll be fine even if we don't add vets.
  17. Uh, Tray's a Walker, not a Jackson.
  18. Jimmy Graham 6'6" 260, 40yd time: 4.56; 20yd split: 2.66; 10yd split: 1.58 ; verticle 38.5; 20yd shuttle 4.45; 3 cone 6.90 Darren Waller 6'6" 240, 40yd time: 4.46; 20yd split: 2.62; 10yd split: 1.57; verticle 37; 20yd shuttle 4.25; 3 cone 7.07 If used in the right contexts, we've essentially got a lighter, little quicker and more agile version of Jimmy Graham.
  19. Honestly though if any one of us were being interviewed by the Browns, wouldn't we want to sound as aloof and disinterested as possible? I mean who wants to work in the Factory of Sadness? Cmon.
  20. Well if it ticks him off than it should be the sworn duty of every member of Ravens Nation to tweet him 3 simple words -- #WhoAreYou? Especially before Steelers games.
  21. http://dawgpounddaily.com/2015/04/08/te-maxx-williams-attitude-problem-nfl-draft-fall/ Either a couple of teams pulled the stunt the Cowboys tried to pull with Shane Ray and scare people off so they could take him themselves, or two, he was a jerk and given his choice of words in his sitdown with Garrett, his parents intervened and slapped Maxx upside the head.
  22. Honestly it shouldn't be a secret why this franchise continues to endure. Look at those behind-the-scene videos and how sharply focused and dialed in everyone looks. It's like Steve and Harbs andOz tell every position coach and scout and strength trainer that April and May is their contribution towards earning a Lombardi. Every second of tape, every phone call, every interview should be approached as if you're on the field in the 4th quarter down 4 in the AFC Championship against New England. Nail your assignment. Do your job. Make the play and we'll all walk out of here champions.
  23. That's not rain, it's a fair concern. A few people were talking about this. The noticable difference between Streeter (who, mind you, clocked a 4.37 40 at the combine) and Waller is that inspite of weighing in at 219, he was lanky. Waller is 238 and he looks like a thick and imposing box-you-out type of receiver - who also can run 4.4. The reason we waited til round 6 on him is cuz it's inaccurate to judge his capabilities given the system he was stuck in. It's clearly a risk. The few plays he made make one wonder whether he just suffered from an option, run heavy offense.
  24. You forgot to mention a guy that's on our roster as a TE/C/LS. That's Morgan Cox. He's only on a 1 year deal with us and long snappers aren't just long snappers, they also gun down the field after the fog clears to man their lanes in coverage against punt returns. Cox is coming off of an ACL tear so we'll need to have a TE/LS/gunner hybrid athlete in place in case the knee hasn't healed to the point that he can still be effective. Boyle has that long snapping background. We essentially just filled 2 second string positions on FGs and punts, 1 possible starting position on the kickoff team, and added depth at the TE position for 1 5th round rookie contract. Seen in that light it's an incredibly smart move.
  25. There aren't many teams that concretely expect their 4th round picks to make the team and at least play a rotational role on their side of the ball while starting on special teams. We're one of those teams that do expect our 4th rounders to contribute. I mention this because Tray Walker is a Free Safety that converted to a CB. So he can be a gunner/jammer immediately on special teams. Compare the combines of 3 players to see where he falls. Jimmy Smith, Cary Williams, and Tray Walker. Jimmy had about 30 pounds on Cary and Tray coming out of school. but his 40, shuttle and 3-cone times are quite similar to the other 2 guys. There's no doubt that Walker is a project (for starters he'll need to bulk up a little without compromising his speed) but he has the potential to be a versatile guy for us.
