  1. Ravens Front Office 20 Years of Success?

Absolutely according to the numbers. Within our 1st 20 years, no team has performed better.

“I will argue that the Ravens philosophies for their player personnel decisions have contributed greatly to the success of this organization.” - from How do Ravens’ First 19 Years Stack Up? - Kirk Stoffel

Some may or may not find front office strategies to be the key to success, but without question franchises that do have formed legacy. Ours has rewritten it in less than 20 years.

nice. Great post made for a great read

  2. I haven't been paying much attention to the NFL lately so I'm probably late, but undervaluing Housler like that was a bad move. Our offensive skill positions are looking bad right now. This doesn't look like a playoff caliber offense to me.I hope Ozzie and company have a plan for a trade or see something in the draft that I'm not seeing.Maybe we're waiting for Gresham to get desperate so we can snatch him up for cheap. He'd be a steal if we could sign him to a 1 year $2 million  deal like Housler and he's able to bounce back to form by mid season.

Look at who signed him the Browns. Look at what they paid him. Nobody else in the league offered Housler anything close to what Cleveland did. There's a reason for that. Bad teams have to overpay for players. Right player right price. If Pitta comes back and stays healthy we have Pitta and Gilmore and that actually a pretty good combo. Now if Pitta isn't back or ready at the start we still have Gilmore and whomever we draft or pick up after June 1 cuts.

  3. Yeahh I agree with you, if you bring in a guy like Crab or Jennings...the teams could absolutely stack the box because our 3 top guys pretty much would be possession type receivers that don't scare them deep, not only stack the box but press at the LOS and we have shown in the past that we struggle when that happens and I don't think it would be any different with this group of WRs...however, you bring Crab in and a cheap deal after May 13 so he doesn't count as a comp pick, and add a deep threat like Devin Smith, Agholor...it doesn't look so bad

I agree with that. I'd wait until after the draft before even thinking about Crabtree. There might be some after draft cuts that may give us some more options.

  4. So apparently we are one of the 3 teams expressing most interest in Crabtree. Last I heard he was looking for something like 4 mil on a one year deal, and I wouldn't definately not give him that...I'd be happy to bring him in on a cheaper deal... Out of all those FA guys we were talking about, Crabtree would be the guy I want mainly bc of his youth and the potential that he DID have...much prefer him to Jennings but again...won't care if we do not sign him either

I don't want Crabtree at all. He could be free and I wouldn't want him. I don't like his attitude and he really lost a step after his injury. He was never the fastest guy to begin with. If you have SSS, Crabtree, and either Marlon brown or Campanaro. Teams are stacking the box because none of our WR's can scare them deep. I'd rather just draft two WR's one more for possession with speed like Strong and the other a pure blazer. I think Marlon brown is a fine WR and he gets better with more reps. I think we need a deep threat to keep teams off balance and give Joe a reason to throw the deep ball.

  5. I'd hardly call Pierce a "contributor on game day" if anything he was a liability. With an Oline as good as ours was last season he was our only back who still struggled, it wasn't a mistake that he was a healthy scratch for one game. Lets go ahead and chalk him up to a lost cause, with the Forsett re-signing he was expendable, its very unlikely he would have made it to the regular season with Forsett, LT, and presumably a rookie, theres no room for him and he would have been cut anyway, him getting a DUI just expedited the process

    True.

  6. I'd like to sign Yanda to allow him to retire a Raven. Osemele will be too expensive IMO. I think that's why we continue to grrom Urshel to take over that LG spot. We'll also draft another interior lineman to keep our O-line stocked. We'll probably get a pretty good compensatory pick for Osemele to help lessen the sting of losing another good player.

  7. i want to see details on the contract.

Better be for vet minimum or close to it.

    How much?

    I like it so far.

If I know Ozzie we got a heck of a deal.

According to Aaron Wilson of Ravens Insider it's a two year deal averaging roughly 2 million a year.

  8. Again, I know very little about this dude but I hope he strengthens our back end.

The last thing we used to ever worry about was someone throwing the ball deep on us. These last two years every time I saw a QB throw the ball deep it was always completed for a big gain or touch down. I just want the occasional pass break up now. No more deep completions from our back end. I hope Hill and Lewis are the answer back there.

  9. I made a thread about Jimmy Smith after his second year. I was wrong on him. I'm not going to make that same assumption for Elam. I'll give him a third season to see where he falls. If he has a bad 3rd season or regresses then I believe he's a bust. If he gets cut in training camp that'll also answer the question.

  10. Am I the only one who thinks Browner is overrated?

He is overrated. However he does a good job at pressing so he doesn't get beat deep alot He does get PI's but is a solid tackler. If he came at a decent price I'd be all for it. If he wants to get paid I'd pass. Jimmy, Webb, and Browner would be a nice three with Asa on dime and doing return work.

  11. I'm not sure you're saying this but I need to comment on this. It's been bothering me. Just because something happened in the past doesn't make it right!!! Just because you were treated a certain way doesn't mean you continue the cycle! If your parents disciplined you this way it's YOUR choice to continue it. With education and awareness as heavily prevalent as it is today, there's frankly no excuse for it. My dad did drugs and still does! I've never once touched them nor even smoked and very rarely drink!

This whole bogus stuff about people being products of their environment is partially incorrect. It's their choice to do these things! These people know better exec if their examples are poor. We learn from so many outlets now that the excuse of "it's in my past and my culture" is just an excuse.

You know right from wrong, especially someone like Ray Rice, Peterson, Hardy, McDonald, etc. There's no excuse. I'm not saying you are saying this. You post just reminded me of it.

I get what your saying and i agree with you. all I'm saying is if all you see is wrong as a child but are told that it's right. When you grow up you will think it's right. How many parents tell their kids their own politics, rhetoric about certain races or classes of people, certain ways to do things. When that child grows up he more likely than not does what his parents told him. It's rare to see a republican father with democratic children. I'm just saying you do what your taught doing for the most part. In some cases when you have a smart individual such as yourself and you are able to recognize right from wrong. You grow up and change your childrens life by not completing the cycle. i have many friends who have been whipped and don't spank their children. I have others who were and do but modified it to be more appropriate in their eyes. I don't have any children yet but i was spanked as a child nowhere near the level AP did. My younger brother though has yet to receive a spanking in his life. We both turned out fine so I know there are other ways to discipline a child from what I received.

i wasn't trying to defend him I was just stating how it may have become engrained in his head.

  12. Maybe I am not in the norm.  But my parents raised three boys and never laid a finger on us.  My dad respected my mom and never laid a finger on her.  I've seen some say that physical punishment is needed to help create respect.  Me and my brothers respect my parents greatly and others because they showed us by living example.

I was a mischievous kid too.  But they used other non-physical means to punish me when necessary.  Why does physicality always seem like the answer?

If AP had your parents he would've learned that way of disciplining. He then would've used this way of disciplining. He learned the brutal way of switches and belts. He used the way he was taught. I think he needs to talk with a professional and get other disciplining ideas in his head. He's probably a lot stronger than his parents were so he inflicts more damage than they did. It's horrible to have your own child afraid of you. It should never be that way. He has to learn a new way so that his children get to have their dad in their lives and not fear him. It's possible that he doesn't know or think what he did was wrong as he wasn't doing it out of malice but out of what he thought was the correct discipline. You can't defend the childs injuries as he just went too far. i don't think his intent was to cause an open wound or bruising. He has to learn a new way and hopefully get help in learning how to discipline his own child achieveing the goal he wants without injuring his child.

  13. Greg Hardy is expected to be place on the same exempt list as Peterson was.

Out of all the stories of these guys he's the one who should've been the first to be suspended or placed on this list. He is actually convicted of the crime. Now I did hear that in Carolina when you appeal the crime it marks you as innocent until the case is heard again. McDonald of the 49ers is next to be placed on this. Irsay of the Colts should be on this list as well until his case is finalized.
