I'm calling for our first two picks to be offense (WR and TE). I really don't see tons of defensive talent that makes me jump out of my chair where we pick. Scratch that, I wouldn't mind Kyle Fuller at all.
Still really pulling for Chris Clemons, even if it is just one year.
Flacco = Our only 1st round draft pick still playing on offense.
The market is oddly silent about Clemons. He's a solid player. Maybe I'm not the only one, who kept mistaking him for the Seahawks DE.
I'm still torn on whether I'd want Zach Martin or a receiver in the first round. I think if we drafted Zach Martin, he'd be better suited to play left guard for us, which would be fine because of Kelechi's back.
I can't deny, that drafting a WR would be tempting (I bellyached over this for a long time), since there is so much great talent at this position in this draft, but I think great OL play is much more important for a QB, than great WRs. Give Joe time in the pocket and he'll manage with what he have right now.
Also, our offense needs high draft picks far more than our defense. Just my opinion.
Do you want Elam to thrive or to be just average? I know he can play FS, but that is not where we can get the most out of him. We all know digs can't play FS so that automatically puts Elam back there at FS.
I think, I care less about Elam's development than Flacco's protection. Getting the safety position out of the way in FA would give the Ravens the ability to invest heavily into the OL. I'd rather take Zack Martin, who will improve our OL than Clinton-Dix, who will make our top 10 defense (well almost top 10) slightly better.
Thank god we got him back. He can really lay the boom and knock guys out
I'm negging this post in memory of Jacoby Jones. R.I.P. #12
I honestly think we won't address RT. I think the team likes its options there. I see KO or Wagner starting at RT unless we draft one and I feel it's more likely we draft a LG than a RT.
Do we know anything about KO's health? Because, we don't have that much depth at either positions behind KO and it wouldn't be surprising if we adress both in the draft.
That Zack Martin pick starts to make more and more sense, the more you think about it. He is really good at playing both positions.
Aaron Wilson tweeted that we offered a contract to Dickson
Somehow I doubt it's anywhere close to the size of Pitta's contract. He might be tempted to go to JAX and get a fresh start with a new team.
I hope someone films the first moment of Steve Smith and Joe Flacco meeting each other in person and shacking hands. I'm a bit corny I guess, but I love those kind of moments.
I'm not a fan of the Clark rumors. At this point of his carreer, the only thing he brings to the team is experience. However, atleast the FO is looking into the FS position. Our best bet is to rebuild our OL through the draft and Oz probably will have to invest all of our high draft picks to do so, because those players have to work for us immediately. That OL last season was one the worst in the league, we still have not changed anthing in any way and turning them into a good unit will be a tall order.
Football games are won in the trenches and as of right now, I am concerned with both our lines. We have Monroe back and he is completely healthy. Yanda should be healthy but with KO, who knows? What do we know? Was he a flash in the pan at guard or is he better suited at tackle? Gino is a back up at best, how will we visit Center after striking out at that position in the draft and UDFA several times? Can Rick wagner be our RT?
I totally agree with this. I think the current situation of the OL is the most concerning part of our offense. Everyone breaths a sigh of relief after we got Monroe back, but there are many holes in that OL and many uncertainties. We should be more active in FA, just for the sake of creating more depth.
We paid Flacco Tom-Brady-type-money, we probably should give him a Tom-Brady-type-OL.
I understand what you're saying but we haven't seen enough of either to know what we actually have. We don't even know how KLM is progressing in his rehab, if he even looks explosive. A cheap stop-gap like wilfork that has something to prove would be a great addition on the D-line and someone that those two can learn from, especially Brandon.

was not complaining, your taking it the wrong way. fyi. just trying to get the point across that Flacco has now been given the weapons, and is the leader of this offense, take charge and get those workouts in.
I really hope the Ravens focus on offense in this years draft and I already don't like how we still need a FS. If I would have to give anybody most of the blame for that 8-8 season, it probably would be Ozzie. We spend too many draft picks on defense last year. Our first 4 were all defensive players, 3 of them barely seen the field and only one of them was made a starter, after Huff forced the team to by stinking it up.
We already invested so much into the defense in FA and the offense paid for it via the Boldin trade, I just couldn't believe we didn't go for a WR in that draft (clearly we lacked the depth at that position we thought we had).
I know, I've been writting this all over the forum and the Ravens have shown no interest in the guy, but Chris Clemons would be a great signing for us. Any draft pick that doesn't help the offense this season is pretty much a wasted pick, imho.
In short, I don't think Flacco has that many weapons still.
Maybe we can draft Ha Ha Clinton Dix for Courtney Upshaw to play on the same team with, some analysts say
I really hope we don't. I don't want a rookie FS to play next to a first year starter at SS. Chris Clemons brings in experience and we already know he's a solid player.
The first 3 rounds of this years draft should be all about offense. Making the OL better and getting more depth in our WR corps (Torrey will be a FA next season and who knows how long Steve Smith can play for us).
in terms of preparing so that this offense will be the best it can possibly be.
Sure, but I don't get what you're complaining about. We heard the news that Joe wants to have a private workout with his receivers about a week ago. Did you expect Flacco to run drills already? Kubiak still was working on the new playbook, clearly it wouldn't make any sense for the Ravens receivers to prepare for routes, that they won't have to run under the new system.
I don't even get where that "Flacco has no work-ethic"-myth comes from. Joe spend extra time with his brand new receivers last season for example and those are not the first instances of Flacco putting in extra work that I can recall.
The reason why the Mannings and Bradys of this world look so good and Joe Flacco looked so awful last season is the OL. The Raven offensive line was horrible. Not saying that Joe was on fire last season, but he was the 4th most sacked QB and he had the worst running game in the league. The Pats and Broncos might be "throw first teams" (not really considering the way NE played the playoffs), but they still have A running game (what did we have? 1 yard with every rushing attempt).
Getting Monroe was a good begining, but we still have an 8-8 OL standing in front of Joe, you know; the one, that crippled him by the end of the season. If the Ravens can't get anyone solid in FA, they HAVE TO invest HEAVILY in the OL in the draft...and no Cyrus Kouandjio.
Flacco better be organizing more than 1-2 workouts with his WR's thats for sure. precision takes time and effort to put in that kind of time. if Joe can do that with his WR's there really is no limits to what he can do..... i mean ( and i know its Manning BUT) Peyton Manning and how quickly he got IN Sync with his WR's? he took the necessary time to develop that relationship . Flacco needs to put in that kind of work with his WR's to really get on the same page. Im not saying BE manning but GET on the same page as your other guys. your only as good as those guys can catch.
I hope Flacco never will be Manning. I want him to win SBs.

Good and now we only need to draft a big physical WR/TE (maybe both) for the endzone.
I'm not too keen on it myself, but what other options do we have at this point? None of the top remaining guys on the market fit the description by Oz.
Only Clinton-Dix would fit the description of a tall (relatively) free safety. Both Ward and Pryor are shorter than Clemons actually (Dix is about as tall as Clemons). Ugh, I do think that Clinton-Dix looks like a solid player (nothing special though), but I really don't want yet another underperforming Bama guy. That stupid Alabama connection is Ozzie's one big weakness.
Clemons is clearly the best remaining option out there, but it doesn't sounds like we're interested. He doesn't fit that rangy playmaker that Ozzie described at season's end. I'd be more than alright with a solid coverage guy that doesn't make mistakes, but judging by Ozzie's comment and the lack of interest in really all FS's that were on the market, I'd venture a guess that HHCD, Pryor, or Ward will be manning the spot next to Elam come August.
A rookie safety, next to a safety with one season of experience. I don't like that at all.
Steve Smith and Brandon Stokely are not even comparable. Steve Smith is still quite productive. Stokely was a desperation acquisition and was way beyond his best years. Smith can still ball
Sure. That's why called him "more dependable".
They are risky to Ozzie because his scouts and himself don't do a good job of evaluating the Receivers. and always when in doubt Ozzie picks a defensive player. Notice when he picked guys like Courtney Upshaw (Alshon Jeffries was available), Sergio Kindle (he moved down from 25, Dez bryant was picked 24 (via trade with N.E.) and Demaryius Thomas went 22 (via trade with N.E.). Man am I pissed Ozie couldn't move up two freaking spots for one of those guys? And we end up with Sergio Kindle who broke his crown like humpty-dumpty.
Granted Hind-sight is 20-20, and as I recall I was thinking we had Dez in our grasp and then....Wait there is a trade, Dallas has moved up....!@#$%^&**
We couldn't convert 3rd downs or score TDs. Maybe, Steve Smith can give Flacco a weapon on third downs, but he is no red zone target. I don't see how resigning Jacoby and getting Steve Smith solves anything in the passing game. We basically got a more dependable Stokley.
I'm afraid Ozzie needs to get over himself in the draft.
Also, seriously Chris Clemons is still on the market. That's a solid FS. Why are we still not talking to him?
The Redskins cut C Will Montgomery. He's a middle of the pack C that graded out positively last year by PFF standards. It wouldn't be flashy, but he could be a good, solid pickup.
Good point. I can understand why the FO is salivating over Mack, though. What great addition that would be.
we better off getting a wr in draft..
We won't, though. Atleast I'll be very surprised. Ozzie already voiced his opinion about how risky WR draft picks are and this team will always be more concerned about getting the defense and running game right rather than improving the passing offense.
Signing an over the hill Vet and counting on late round picks and UDFAs for WRs is right up our alley.
Yes, but in his defense he has a better understanding of zone coverage than our entire receiving corps, sans Pitta, combined. It's a question of price for me, and a worry about them ignoring receiver early in the draft.
I'm not complaining about a potential Steve Smith signing, but I do share your worries. Then again, it's not the Ravens MO to draft a WR early anyway. FS and LB seem to be needs and the Ravens aren't pursuing the FS position in FA already. I see Oz setting himself up for Clinton-Dix or Pryor. Maybe Mosley, if Daryl Smith doesn't sign.
I kind of write my posts knowing that, in all likelihood, we won't draft a WR until the 3rd round, maybe.
Car didn't have any other receivers on their roster, he was doubled all day like Torrey was . He also missed a game. Besides we aren't bringing him in to be our #1 , he will be a cheap vet #3 and if he gives us 700yrds I will be ecstatic.
And that's why getting Steve Smith doesn't mean WR isn't a huge need in the draft, that might actually warrant a 1st round draft pick (in spite of what some might believe).
Our receiving corps still isn't very good adding Jacoby and Steve Smith. It's the same one from last year(one of the worst in the league) with the addition of a 35-year old chain mover. Smith is okay, but he's only getting worse and doesn't make our offense that much more dynamic IMO.
Steve Smith is coming off an awful season also. He wasn't that much better than Marlon and Jacoby to be honest.
