That's not the way I heard it, but that's the way I'll take it.
There's a saying about too many cooks in the kitchen, but when it comes to football, I don't think there's ever such a thing about too many talented coaches on one staff. Check egos at the door and work together to reach the summit. I like how this has played out.
Well, he got the start in Houston when Mike wasn't there and helped them into being a top five offense, so I'm not sure there's any merit to the last part.
Kubiak was an OC under Mike Shanahan in Denver. I said his dad probably helped him get jobs, not ones where he worked directly under him, but just in general.
How about we snag Kyle as the offensive coordinator and Rick as the quarterback coach?
Or would it be the other way around?
Even if he hasn't had much experience calling plays, I'd rather have Dennison in an OC role over Shanahan. It's unlikely that will be the case, but I think it'd be good. He seems to have the respect that comes from having played in the league himself, gone through the different coaching ranks, etc. Shanahan is a great young mind, but we all know being Mike Shanahan's kid probably helped him get a few jobs.
I'd agree with you, but I think they likely did that yesterday when they already had him in the facility, not on a Sunday night. I actually don't think anything is happening tonight, and it was just a misinformed source.
I wouldn't go that far yet
Was Dennison particularly successful in Denver or Houston?
He took over for Shanahan in Houston. Here is an interesting article. I pasted one of the most interesting parts.
"One facet of Dennison’s history that figures to interest the Bears is his background as an offensive line coach. Dennison was the Broncos’ offensive line coach for five seasons. He was a protege of Alex Gibbs, who is credited with developing the zone-blocking scheme that made the Broncos’ running game among the best in football from 1995-2003."

@AaronWilson: "Ravens coach John Harbaugh has spoken with former Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison during the past few days, according to source"
@AaronWilson: "Rick Dennison is highly regarded by John Harbaugh and in NFL circles, according to sources"
Shanahan is still the better option, he has more experience as a play caller. I'm not sure Dennison is that far above Hostler on my OC Big Board.
Now see, I think Dennison is thought of more highly than Shanahan around the league. I have nothing to back that claim up. That's just an opinion. He was a bright spot in the crazy world that was the Houston Texans last year. Dennison called plays from the booth last year.
The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Harbaugh had an interview with an unidentified person for the job today. Maybe neither one of them gets the job.
It was my son. He's ruthless sometimes. He will literally bite you if he feels like the necessity is there. He's strong willed and determined to get what he wants. We just can't have any games past 7:30. ![]()
I just think it's incredible how there is so much secrecy surrounding this hire. Just get it over with, because it's starting to draw itself out way too far for a team that already has an established head coach.
I'm not sure about that. They might have been a brain Favre't away from the Super Bowl during his tenure, but overall that's a major negative against him. He doesn't know how to deal with players.
Perhaps, I don't know. I don't follow him that much to make myself aware of all his tendencies. I just want the new OC to succeed greatly, because that means the offense succeeds greatly. No one knows how Shanahan will work out, just like no one knows how Hostler would have worked out. Just because someone was good then doesn't mean they'll be like that now, and vice versa. It's a waiting game until August, September, and people can finally see the product on the field and not just on paper or in practice. That's when it really matters.
He has a prickly personality in a different way than what Shanahan supposedly does. I don't think he's ever called plays, he's always just been Reid's lackey. I think he'd be a terrible hire.
I thought he called a little bit in Minnesota.
The 11th hour interview just finish a final meeting to work out all the details for Shanahan's contract. We don't wanna just announce the hire on Monday, we want Kyle in his office working with scouts on the kinda players he needs for his offense, we need him working with Harbs to bring in assistant coaches. In fact that 11th hour interview is for Shanahan's top choice for QB coach.
I'm sticking to Monday being the day and Shanahan being the guy. Make the announcement and let the guy get to work. No need for a presser or anything. Just announce and work.
I'd agree with you, but I think they likely did that yesterday when they already had him in the facility, not on a Sunday night. I actually don't think anything is happening tonight, and it was just a misinformed source.
Maybe the 11th hour interview is, in fact, Kubiak. I'd prefer Kyle, I think he's a bit more creative as a play caller.
I don't mind Childress. He's had his issues, but a lot of people have. I don't know why they didn't give him more of a look. Or maybe they did, and he just didn't pan out.
I hear the Browns are still accepting applications.
I'm starting to wonder if this will actually be resolved tomorrow. Between the length of time it's already taken and the discovery of an 11th hour interview, this whole process seems like a bit of a mess.
The 11th hour interview could have already been planned. If it wasn't, it could have been a request interview from Ozzie or someone from when they were talking with guys down in Mobile. Or, it could just be a misinformed source. Lots of scenarios. ![]()
Dude, you need to give your source.... Who is your close friend? If your wrong and you put this out there, you will never be trusted again IMO. If your correct then you are one of my new favorite people! Lol,
It's easy. For instance, I can say that I have a close personal friend who said Hostler is getting the job. Even if neither of us have a close personal friend who is giving us information, one of us will be right. He just has a greater chance of being right, because Shanahan is the better choice. ![]()
I had no idea about the wiki I thought it was verified information. thanks for sharing this I use it allot that's good to know.
We had a teaching workshop about research material once, and that's when I learned about Wikipedia. It's also why some articles on there have a bias to them, whether positive or negative. It's basically a person with an account writing information about a subject. They try to ensure accuracy as much as possible, but it's difficult with thousands of topics.
C'mon guys announce it already. Jeez
I'm sure it's Shanahan, and the majority will be happy. I will be pleased as well, but it doesn't matter what the talk is now. It matters whether or not he can produce a solid offense on the field come August. We can't afford to have an OC search every off-season. Hopefully this one will stick.
When I worked in schools, we always told the kids to find a more credible website than Wikipedia. It's not that it's completely inaccurate, but it's just that anyone with a Wikipedia account can type in information on the site. They do have random times when they clear off the inaccurate information, but they're notorious for having fallacies because it's a public site. If you wanted to say London was the capital of France, it'd probably be left up there until either the workers of Wikipedia removed it or another contributor did.
With all that said, if it has to come down between Shanahan and Hostler, I hope Wikipedia is correct. ![]()
I wonder if there is any truth to the rumor on Twitter that the Browns are looking at Don Martindale for their DC position. We need to gain coaches, not keep losing them.
I just hope that we aren't all pulling for Shanahan, and he turns out to be the wrong choice. I don't want to have to think of making it a habit to find a quality OC year after year.
If there were any negatives with Shanahan being a problem we have to remember the guy is very young and he has probably learned and matured since then so I think he will be a great addition to this team. You can not just write somebody because of something the media has said about him everybody make mistakes you just learn from them and move forward. Harbs please hire Shanahan before someone else does.
That's right. He is young. That's probably the biggest question mark on him. Will he keep his composure with guys old enough to be his father? His counterpart on defense, Dean Pees, is actually older than Mike Shanahan. Age can be a great thing, or it can be the biggest problem. There's a line between listening to the opinions of experience and thinking you know all the answers. In terms of the players side of things, I think they'd enjoy working with a guy their age personally.
What's with the hold up harbs , whats making you so hesitant to hire anybody ........
It's the weekend. Media's off doing their own personal agendas. Unless something is said before today's end, I think everyone will hear Monday. I'm sure the winner has already been notified.
If Shanahan gets the job I will welcome him with open arms! He deserves a fresh start. The Redskins have had problems as an organization since Dan Snyder bought the organization. Shanahan is there newest scape goat. I personally think he will fix the run game and would work very well with Flacco.
I just want him to work well with others. If he can do that, I'm happy.
It's hard to assume someone will be one way based on past results, but he always seemed like someone who'd be a hot head when someone disagreed with him. Let's hope, if he does get the job, that this was either not the case, or he learned a lesson along the way to correct that. We don't need to be looking for a new OC every offseason. ![]()
Youth or familiarity. Surely the 'winner' has been notified now. I wonder when they'll tell the media and fans.
I'm sort of hoping it's Shanahan now, and I hope it works. He's a great young mind, but with that youth could come some arrogance or hot headedness. Let's hope he works well with the staff, through good or bad, and that his trouble in Washington was just because he was working too closely with his father.
Can you name some? I literally cannot think of a single big name one, but I really would like to know.
Tony Dungy went right from playing to coaching (always in the NFL). He was a DC in Pittsburgh and Minnesota. We all know how his career turned out.
Out of those three, if those are indeed the only ones left, I'd choose Wilson. He hasn't been an OC, but I'd take experience over age. He's in his 50's, much like the majority of the coaching staff. He seems like he'd fit in, with other pieces of the puzzle put in place around him. Shanahan still seems young for the job. If it was a younger staff around him, I'd say it'd work better. I don't know.

Ian Rappaport said this morning that Kubiak didn't choose Cleveland because he wanted a 'pseudo HC' role. That's the only thing that perks my interest on the matter. He just needs to know he's not the HC, and he'll need to know his role concretely. I don't think that should be much of an issue, because I don't think Harbaugh will allow him to be like his equal on the staff. He'll need to know he works under Harbaugh, not on the same level.
