  1. There's no way this is solely a Harbaugh move, unless he's completely changed his philosophy of staff hiring. I think it's a little of 'let's work together, but I'm going to get this done with or without your complete support' kind of thing.
  2. Ian Rappaport said this morning that Kubiak didn't choose Cleveland because he wanted a 'pseudo HC' role. That's the only thing that perks my interest on the matter. He just needs to know he's not the HC, and he'll need to know his role concretely. I don't think that should be much of an issue, because I don't think Harbaugh will allow him to be like his equal on the staff. He'll need to know he works under Harbaugh, not on the same level.
  3. That's not the way I heard it, but that's the way I'll take it. There's a saying about too many cooks in the kitchen, but when it comes to football, I don't think there's ever such a thing about too many talented coaches on one staff. Check egos at the door and work together to reach the summit. I like how this has played out.
  4. Kubiak was an OC under Mike Shanahan in Denver. I said his dad probably helped him get jobs, not ones where he worked directly under him, but just in general.
  5. Even if he hasn't had much experience calling plays, I'd rather have Dennison in an OC role over Shanahan. It's unlikely that will be the case, but I think it'd be good. He seems to have the respect that comes from having played in the league himself, gone through the different coaching ranks, etc. Shanahan is a great young mind, but we all know being Mike Shanahan's kid probably helped him get a few jobs.
  6. He took over for Shanahan in Houston. Here is an interesting article. I pasted one of the most interesting parts. "One facet of Dennison’s history that figures to interest the Bears is his background as an offensive line coach. Dennison was the Broncos’ offensive line coach for five seasons. He was a protege of Alex Gibbs, who is credited with developing the zone-blocking scheme that made the Broncos’ running game among the best in football from 1995-2003." http://voices.suntimes.com/sports/inside-the-bears/texans-on-rick-dennison-anybod/
  7. Now see, I think Dennison is thought of more highly than Shanahan around the league. I have nothing to back that claim up. That's just an opinion. He was a bright spot in the crazy world that was the Houston Texans last year. Dennison called plays from the booth last year.
  8. It was my son. He's ruthless sometimes. He will literally bite you if he feels like the necessity is there. He's strong willed and determined to get what he wants. We just can't have any games past 7:30. I just think it's incredible how there is so much secrecy surrounding this hire. Just get it over with, because it's starting to draw itself out way too far for a team that already has an established head coach.
  9. Perhaps, I don't know. I don't follow him that much to make myself aware of all his tendencies. I just want the new OC to succeed greatly, because that means the offense succeeds greatly. No one knows how Shanahan will work out, just like no one knows how Hostler would have worked out. Just because someone was good then doesn't mean they'll be like that now, and vice versa. It's a waiting game until August, September, and people can finally see the product on the field and not just on paper or in practice. That's when it really matters.
  10. I thought he called a little bit in Minnesota.
  11. I'd agree with you, but I think they likely did that yesterday when they already had him in the facility, not on a Sunday night. I actually don't think anything is happening tonight, and it was just a misinformed source.
  12. I don't mind Childress. He's had his issues, but a lot of people have. I don't know why they didn't give him more of a look. Or maybe they did, and he just didn't pan out.
  13. The 11th hour interview could have already been planned. If it wasn't, it could have been a request interview from Ozzie or someone from when they were talking with guys down in Mobile. Or, it could just be a misinformed source. Lots of scenarios.
  14. It's easy. For instance, I can say that I have a close personal friend who said Hostler is getting the job. Even if neither of us have a close personal friend who is giving us information, one of us will be right. He just has a greater chance of being right, because Shanahan is the better choice.
  15. We had a teaching workshop about research material once, and that's when I learned about Wikipedia. It's also why some articles on there have a bias to them, whether positive or negative. It's basically a person with an account writing information about a subject. They try to ensure accuracy as much as possible, but it's difficult with thousands of topics.
  16. I'm sure it's Shanahan, and the majority will be happy. I will be pleased as well, but it doesn't matter what the talk is now. It matters whether or not he can produce a solid offense on the field come August. We can't afford to have an OC search every off-season. Hopefully this one will stick.
  17. When I worked in schools, we always told the kids to find a more credible website than Wikipedia. It's not that it's completely inaccurate, but it's just that anyone with a Wikipedia account can type in information on the site. They do have random times when they clear off the inaccurate information, but they're notorious for having fallacies because it's a public site. If you wanted to say London was the capital of France, it'd probably be left up there until either the workers of Wikipedia removed it or another contributor did. With all that said, if it has to come down between Shanahan and Hostler, I hope Wikipedia is correct.
  18. I wonder if there is any truth to the rumor on Twitter that the Browns are looking at Don Martindale for their DC position. We need to gain coaches, not keep losing them.
  19. I just hope that we aren't all pulling for Shanahan, and he turns out to be the wrong choice. I don't want to have to think of making it a habit to find a quality OC year after year.
  20. That's right. He is young. That's probably the biggest question mark on him. Will he keep his composure with guys old enough to be his father? His counterpart on defense, Dean Pees, is actually older than Mike Shanahan. Age can be a great thing, or it can be the biggest problem. There's a line between listening to the opinions of experience and thinking you know all the answers. In terms of the players side of things, I think they'd enjoy working with a guy their age personally.
  21. It's the weekend. Media's off doing their own personal agendas. Unless something is said before today's end, I think everyone will hear Monday. I'm sure the winner has already been notified.
  22. I just want him to work well with others. If he can do that, I'm happy. It's hard to assume someone will be one way based on past results, but he always seemed like someone who'd be a hot head when someone disagreed with him. Let's hope, if he does get the job, that this was either not the case, or he learned a lesson along the way to correct that. We don't need to be looking for a new OC every offseason.
  23. Youth or familiarity. Surely the 'winner' has been notified now. I wonder when they'll tell the media and fans.
  24. I'm sort of hoping it's Shanahan now, and I hope it works. He's a great young mind, but with that youth could come some arrogance or hot headedness. Let's hope he works well with the staff, through good or bad, and that his trouble in Washington was just because he was working too closely with his father.
  25. Tony Dungy went right from playing to coaching (always in the NFL). He was a DC in Pittsburgh and Minnesota. We all know how his career turned out.
