2007: 4th in yards and 4th in PPG (so not stellar).

2011: 31st in yards, but 15th in points (This was the year that NE and GB both had record breaking offenses, so it forced teams to pretty much pass all game and NE allowed it. They ranked top 10 in fumbles forced and recovered and second in interceptions).

2014: 13th in yards and 8th in PPG.

I mean, yeah, he's not fielding the 2000 Ravens or the 2013 Seahawks, but his defenses are damn well serviceable and definitely above average.

My point is just those teams were offensively carried for the most part. You have to have some of both to make it to the super bowl. But I don't think he relys on his defense only.

I like that Pagano has players that want to play for him and that he is well received and I can't argue too much with him being probably better than some of the guys already taken. for various reasons, but I do think factoring in their ability to make their defense, offense, or special teams better should be a consideration. When you think of some of the best head coaches in the NFL, they always have their unit as a top ranking one. Bruce Arians always has good offenses, John Harbaugh always has good special teams play, Mike Zimmer has great defensive play, Bill Belichick routinely churns out extremely good defenses, Pete Carroll has great defenses, etc.

I won't argue with Irsay being terrible to work with, but ranking inside the top 20 once in terms of yards (2014) and once inside the top 16 in terms of PPG (2013) is disappointing.

I would say look at a guy like Billick. Cutting edge offense for the time. Yet he was enough of a leader to turn a perennial loser franchise that couldn't beat the Jags to world champs against all odds with a pedestrian offense at best.

Harbaugh has has a special teams background but his great leadership is what brought a young offense and diminishing defense to perennial contenders and champions.

Belichicks defenses have been less than stellar in their last three super bowl appearances.

  3. Been a bit busy since my early morning picks. Wasn't expecting a multiple page debate on Brandon Lafell...ok.

So I picked Pagano because he's an aggressive coach which is necessary to win to me. I like him a lot better than some other guys already picked. I don't think the head coach decision should be based of their ability or experience with x offense or y defense. You want a leader at he top and Chuck has shown that despite some pretty poor front office decisions and dealing with the despicable Irsay.

Jeff Heuerman was one I heavily considered with my last pick. Ended up going with the better blocker to come out of Ohio State since he seemed like a safer pick. If Heuerman gets healthy and really starts to live up to his talent then he's going to be great.

Thanks. I also like Vannett and I likely would have taken them both if available. Heuerman likely the better receiver but still  a very good blocker which will be his primary role and he's familiar with the oc I plan to get. Rodgers has never favored the TE in the passing game but the occasional big plays to the which would be what Heuerman is to me.

Brown more or less completes my WR corps. He was very good in the playoffs and showed he's got potential in a big play threat. He's not a particular burner but he's a big play threat who has good speed which bodes well for a guy like Joe. Can play inside or outside. Combine that with Parker's hands, and Crowder's ability to go over the middle and make extremely tough catches, whilst I have a particularly  unproven/Unopposing WR Corp at this current moment, it has the potential to be great in 2-3 years. Combine that with a rock solid oline, and two good running backs, and two very good TEs, I'd say Flacco has a good Corp of weapons.

I also want to give Flacco a little more control of the offense, especially in the passing game. He'll have kubiak's playbook to work with, and with the two TEs I currently have I'm excited for the passing game

I like Brown a lot. He's actually played better in the Nfl than I expected he would. I actually was listening to some pretty interesting analysis on breakout receivers on rotoviz and some of the points for Brown were quite intriguing.

Someone sell me on 24.  Never have watched and don't know anything about it.

I remember 24 when it first came out and it wasa cool fast paced concept.  I believe I watched two more seasons and I remember each getting more far fetched and unbelievable. Fwiw.

Yep.  1 more and then hanging it up.  Not enough viewers.  I get it as it can be a tough show to follow, but man, it's disappointing to those who are keeping up with it.  I was worried about them moving the plot to a new location after only 1 season, but it ended up being a brilliant decision.

Right . I was quite skeptical of where season 2 was going. But it was great. The whole death and resurrection episodes I was also quite skeptical of but they managed to somehow pull that off. When does the new season start.

I'm so disappointed that The Leftovers is only getting one more season.  I thought they really hit their stride in season 2.

Really?  I didn't hear that was decided. And I know I agree.  Great characters all around.

    @Tru11 is up.

I'll admit that I did do some research into Bryant and another troubled WR a day or so ago, but that was more just due diligence than serious consideration. Maybe if we got later into the continuation, but I expected them to be gone by then. The suspensions are scary to deal with and I already have a troublemaker to deal with in Junior Galette.

Yeah he never was in consideration for me as he falls against my number one rule of this game just trying to get players I like. I don't think Bryant will necessarily fall into the category of a couple guys who are likely gone from the sport. He could turn things around for sure but it's troublesome

I'm aware and have been looking for a picture since before this post. A small reminder, I'd prefer to do without the PM notifications. The post notifications are more than enough. I appreciate the effort, but all it does is force me to check off the PMs as read every time.

Looks like the picture hunt was well worth it. I'm a fan of any photo involving a Michigan player getting blown up. Haha. Calhoun is a guy I want to see how he can translate this year and what kind of impact he will have.

I had also considered Agholor but it sounds like he's been doing awful.  Not a bad idea to take a shot on the potential, though.

I don't think I'd buy too much into these Ota reports. However combined with his less than expected rookie year there is concern. Still I'd take a shot on his potential here also.

How often an animal like that comes around?? Once every 10 yrs if that?? Coleman is actually fairly  close considering his length as well. Sux Cleveland got him. I hate that septic tank of a city!! Actually Jensen is one of the more physically dominant guards around the league. By playoff time I'm betting he will be playing as good as yanda. KO and Jensen on the left side would be so awesome. Theres a complete difference in finding a guard that plays good  and then there is that lineman that gives defensive lineman something else to think about that distracts him from trying to make plays. Thus springing your offense. And that is what i look for along the oline. Thats reason im pulling for Stanley to tack on some muscle and not just play well. But dominate and frustrate the edge rusher and take his confidence. When the oline dominates and he has legit weapons Joe cool is as good as Brees Brady Rodgers. A dominant oline will spring the ravens to a top shelf potent offense that can punch a dominant defense back in their mouth even harder!! Broncos defense will not do that to ravens offense in the superbowl behind a dominant oline. Through Jensen and Urschel the oline can recreate kos dominance. It falls on Stanley  getting stronger and not just stalemating but playing physical like yanda Jensen Urschel and wagner. And not fear any defense.

This is a great post. Particularly the stance on Cleveland.  I really hope these young guys like Jensen and Stanley can step up to the plate and return the Oline to the most dominant part of the team it was in 14. We also need to go ahead and resign Wagner and keep this line together and not take any more steps backwards.  My statement again Is this team has done quite well in drafting but have failed to retain the right key players for two years in a row which is something they have rarely gotten wrong in the past.

Big thanks to @rmw10 for getting my picks in the last few rounds. My choices changed several times but am happy with who I got the last few picks. Getting Buck Allen paired with Gio will provide a stable behind Jameis to take off pressure and utilize a very solid OL. Adding Sylvester Williams and Trent Murphy helps my front 7. sly seemed to drop further than I expected and Trent Murphy is a great backup edge guy for me behind Clay Matthews and Anthony Barr.

I initially planned my D being a 43under/over as it would take advantage of my D studs in Barr and Sheldon Richardson but am not sure if at this point it would be a better fit as a 34 type. Either way should be able to operate in multiple looks and 43 under/over is essentially a 34 personnel. Maybe when we can draft DC it will be more clear

Very nice choices. I was looking at Allen myself. Nice receiving backs there. I think the more versatile the D the better.

Bethel has played decently well in limited action. The Cardinals have always talked him up as a CB and now he's in line to start. At worst he's a phenomenal special teams player. Clayborn is a good rotational pass rusher who can play end or tackle. When you don't have top end talent across the defensive line, it seems to work best with a rotation and that's what I have with my 6 DL.

I like the Bethel pick. He's been a primary backup and he'll start this year it looks like. I like him better than the former Cardinal that was already picked I believe.
