  1. This is unlink Ozzie, to be in a position to have to plug so many holes via trade and losing draft picks in the process. This is indicative of some poor drafts over the last several years, and the Zuttah signing is the most glaring case in point. We are replacing a very poor center who was drafted too high for a merely below-average center, and have to lose a pick in the process. Hope some folks are being held accountable in the scouting department for getting the team in this predicament.

I agree we have had our fair share of let downs the past 3 years from guys drafted in the top 3 rounds but Ozzie has found some real gems in the later rounds to make up for it. You have to remember just because they go in a high round they can't all be stars. I think we have more success in the draft than most.

  2. The guy can change the game every time he touches the ball. Possible YAC, deep ball, punt/kick returns. He is a game changer. You can't expect him to do it every game. That is not a fair assessment but if he can help us win games you cant ask anything more than that. He is the only Ravens returner that actually gets my complete attention on kick offs. Not many guys in the entire league can do that. Great signing that I didn't see coming.

  3. Wilson: Ravens and Daryl Smith still have disconnect on asking price, according to sources.

Doesn't sound good, but we've learned from the Monroe affair that this doesn't mean Smith is all but lost. Graham is off to visit Redskins ... another Raven that looks like he may be a challenge to retain.

In this game, patience is absolutely a virtue. There is time to see how things will play out.

So a week ago the media was saying that Monroe would probably be leaving and Daryl and Cory were going to stay. Sounds about right

  4. I know this is off-topic, but I'd say they Broncos are looking more like they're trying to buy a super bowl now. They're going to implode soon under those contracts, especially since Manning only has a few years left.

Unfortunately, I see the Pats being in better shape. Their system is very QB friendly, so even Brady is gone, they should be relatively ok (I don't see them getting in cap hell or turning into a cellar-dweller).

I agree. The Bronco's are in panic mode now. Elway can see the writing on the wall with Manning and is scrambling to sign high priced players to compete now. If they couldn't do it last year after the season they had I don't see it happening. The Pats are being as steadfast as always. They are patient like us and will not mortgage their future for short term gains. Their issue will be finding a replacement for Brady. A player of his caliber is likely a once in a generation type player for NE.

  5. all this talk over a lineman this is good news but we still can't compete with the broncos or patriots. it was fun being one of the top teams in the AFC while it lasted but it looks like everyones gonna have to sit back an watch the broncos and pats battle it out every year to see who gets to the Super Bowl :(

That's funny because those are the 2 teams I see fading away into darkness for a few years. Last year NE had a very mediocre team and was completely carried by Tom Brady. It was actually very impressive on his part. He has 1-3 years left tops and I believe his productivity peaked last year. The Broncos on the other hand have built a very good team around Manning. I think losing in such dramatic fashion in last years superbowl will show in their broken confidence next season. They don't look unbeatable anymore. Manning has even less time left than Brady and I imagine his departure will coinside with cap issues from the rest of that team. So unless they both have 2-14 seasons and pull an Indy in finding a Luck type QB they are both in trouble.

  6. Typical Ravens offseason. We dont usually go out and pursue the hot names. We wait patiently for all the dust to settle and then sort through the scraps. Sometimes they find a diamond like Daryl Smith and sometimes they find a Huff. Same rule goes for coaches. I was really excited last year about our coaching staff. Then they failed to show up. The only real progression I saw was in our secondary but of course he is gone now.
