Jarvis Landry is gone. Are there any wideouts for Joe to throw to. How bad does this offense have to get to get some kind of help?
1. Torrey Smith
2. Steve Smith
3. Marlon Brown
4. Jacoby Jones
5. Dennis Pitta
6. Owen Daniels
You don't think those players are good enough? You think a rookie WR is going to play more than those guys? WR & TE are NOT a need for us to compete this year. Sure, it would be great to get a young guy for the future, but drafting for the future is far from drafting a "desperate" need at WR (See Carolina or NY Jets) or TE.
Browns FO deserve an award for their 1st round performance.. Our div is getting tougher and tougher..
I don't think they made solid moves. They passed on Sammy Watkins at 4 - that would have made one heck of a WR duo. They selected Gilbert but could have gotten Dennard at 22 and then traded back up to get Carr/Bridgewater/Manziel
oh please... i just gave you my point and logic, now prove what i said was wrong. show me the logic outside of oh the professionals know better than we do logic .. bc if thats the case theres no reason for us to state our opinions or have such forum. but please explain this move as well as i broke down why is didnt make sense, im sure you can do the same
Let's see. Ozzie said he tried to trade back - no takers. Maybe the "professionals" knew that Pryor is a SS and Dix would be a bust? You say it's a bad pick but you offer no alternative and think we should draft a player by need. Keep in mind that both Sergio Kindle & Terrence Cody were both "need" picks. So if Dix is a bust, Pryor is a SS and Mosley is a top 10 talent on your board, what do YOU do?
If anybody is happy about this pick I don't even know what to say. I am honestly nothing but disappointed with this first-round selection. We are not going to make it to the playoffs with darian nobody at FS. There is a giant void in our backfield that needs to be filled. You can try to justify picking an inside linebacker all you want but it is not a position of need. I understand Baltimores mentality, and I respect it; "pick the best man available." But when you have a legitimate position of need you cannot simply ignore it. Picking the best man available is for teams who do not absolutley need a FS.
If you think a rookie can come in and play FS then you don't know NFL football (Ed Reed had the most dominating defense in the history of the NFL in front of him). Pryor is probably better suited to play SS, that leaves Ha-Ha, who in my opinion is the OVERRATED Alabama player. Yes, Saban's system puts out players but Mosley was the QB of that defense. Who knows, maybe the Ravens have Ward or another safety rated higher than Dix.
Anyway, I'll side with the Ravens FO with a Hall of Fame player and Hall of Fame GM than some guy on the message board (myself included).
Solid pick. Daryl Smith is somewhat a liability against the run and another year older. The Ravens need a tackling machine and now may have two in Mosely & Brown.
@TyGuzzo21 your wrong Rod Woodson was a steeler and accepted in baltimore as a raven
To be fair, that was before the re-alignment when the Titans and Jags (Eddie George vs Ray Lewis) were our biggest rivalry.
Ask yourself this... what kind of contract could we sign Mack to that would make it difficult for the Browns to match?
The next person that comes up with one is the first person to come up with one.
We don't need Mack. We just need an upgrade on Gino. Stop shooting for the moon. Its time to shift your fan focus to something reasonable.
I'd consider Peyton Manning and Alex Mack about equally as likely to be Ravens at this time.
You overpay him and you make most of his guaranteed money in 2015-2016. If the Browns match, then they may not have enough money to sign their FA like Joe Hayden, Phil Taylor, Jordan Cameron & Josh Gordon.
I've been against this move the whole time but now that he's on the team he's I have no choice but to buy in.Hopefully I'm wrong about him trending downward.I'm hoping he proves me wrong because my guy Hakeem Nicks just signed a 1 year $3.5 mil deal which is a complete steal that we could've had.
We just got Steve Smith on basically a 1 year $3.5 deal with an option for more. And quite frankly, we need a slot receiver, Nicks is not that. Plus, Nicks did not want to come to the Ravens - we were not on his list of teams.
Ice Up, Son!
Your right that we have enough to sign Mack, but the problem is the Browns will have a chance to match that offer. Given their cap space, the contract would have to be very front loaded, which would take basically all of our cap space, and the Browns could probably still match.
The Browns have more than enough cap room to match any front loaded deal. The key is not to front load the offer but to make most of the guaranteed money come out next year (and the following year) when the Browns will have to try and resign Joe Haden, Phil Taylor, Jordan Cameron and then Josh Gordon
Well that raps up our free agency and i couldn't be happier. I'm gonna try and contain my temper towards fans talking about signing Mack as much as i can by leaving with these words. Salary Cap!
The Ravens could easily give Mack a deal similar to Monroe's. His SALARY CAP number this year is only $3.2 million.
The Ravens had $15.6 million. I would guess that The Smiths take up about $5 million of that. The Ravens draft picks will take about $3 million. That leaves about $7 million. Easily enough to get a Mack deal done. The Ravens can free up another $1.6 million when they bring in another punter and release Koch. (That probably won't happen til the end of pre-season)
Best part of all this is that the Ravens do not lose any comp draft picks - should still get a 4th for Jones and a 5th for Graham.
If Oz finds a way to scoop up Mack to play center, then that would make the FA period a success IMO...
Extending Suggs, Resigning Pitta & Monroe already makes this offseason a success.
Very important to get Monroe back in the fold. Still a lot of work to do but it's a very positive start. Just wondering how many comp picks they have and where there sloted. The loss of Oher and others will get some more picks but assuming that's for next year's draft?
This year the Ravens will probably get 2 x 4th Round picks (Kruger & Ellerbe) and 2 x 5th Round picks (Cary Williams & Reed). Easy to see why they were willing to give up a 4th & 5th for Monroe.
Any Free Agents lost this year will get us picks in next years draft (Assuming we don't sign more free agents than we lose). Based on his contract, Art Jones will probably get us a 4th Round pick next year - that can go up or down a round based on his performance.
To all the Harbaugh/Ozzie naysayers.......say your sorry!
Really like this hire and I think Dennison will be groomed to take over once Kubiak leaves for a HC job.
Ball so hard!
Rick Dennison would be a good choice. You've seen what his offense did with Arian Foster the past few years. Outside of last year when Schaub completely fell apart, the Texans were one of the top teams in the league.
Dennison or Shanahan - I'm good with either of those guys.
Reports that Cam Cameron might be the Browns new OC
I know im not qualified to run an NFL team but, howcome we didnt interview Kubiak?
Norv Turner & Kubiak want to be Head Coaches again. That will probably happen next year. Why waste all the time & effort of bringing them in, having the offense learn a new system, seeing them leave after next year and doing this all over again?
Or maybe they just declined.
Kubiak was too busy interviewing for the Bucs and the Lions Head Coaching position.
That was the final after the last game of the season when Pitts beat Cleveland 20-7. Still look at all the IR's (17) New England had all year and yet they made it to the AFC title game! AMAZING.
Not counting the stashed guys in pre-season or the guys during the play-offs, the Pats only had 5 guys go on IR during the regular season.
Interesting info The Ravens was tied for first for having the least amount of injuries this year with the Eagles at 8 personnel.Ravens were lucky and they still could not get into the playoffs. Check out New England....What does that say?.......http://stats.cleveland.com/fb/recentinj.asp
That's misleading....check the dates. Most teams stash guys on the IR before the season starts.
The way I remember the Billick firing is such. Not long before Being let go, he had been given a vote of confidence by none other than Steve Bisciotti, even though there had been a "locker room mutiny" that Ray Lewis had been able to overcome for the team. This may have even been the Super Bowl year. If not, it was the year just prior to his firing. After the season, and having received Bisciotti's endorsement, numerous players spoke to the owner making him realize that Billick had "lost" the locker room. It was at that point Billick's contract was terminated. That's the way I remember it. If I misunderstood the reports I read, I apologize. But, that Is the way I remember it. So, my point is, sometimes it's not only about wins and losses. Harbaugh's job is no different than Billick's was, or any other head coaching job is. A lot of factors come into play; not just their record.
That's not exactly how it happened. 4 out of the last 6 years of Billick being head coach, the Ravens failed to make the play-offs including 3 years with losing records.
Ravens record under Billick
1999 8-8
2000 12-4 Super Bowl
2001 10-6 Lost division round of play-offs
2002 7-9
2003 10-6 Lost wildcard game
2004 9-7
2005 6-10
2006 13-3 Lost division round of play-offs
2007 5-11
Billick was fired because he invested in Kyle Boller. The one year the Ravens went 13-3, we had McNair. What did Billick do the next year, go back to Boller - which is what caused all the strife in the locker room. As a fan, I couldn't take any more of Boller so I can only imagine with how frustrating it was to the other guys on the team.
Looks like another Har Boo Boo is about to happen. We never even talked to Norv Turner. Mistake! We never even talked to Kubiak. Maybe a mistake. Kyle Shanahan is the best candidate left standing at this point. But who appears to be the front runner for the job? Hostler! Another mistake! When are you going to stop it, Harbaugh? Answer, probably never.
Both Turner & Kubiak want Head Coaching jobs. Why waste time talking to them, bringing them in for 1 season and then seeing them leave after next year? That makes no sense.
And I don't understand why everyone wants Norv but doesn't want Hostetler. Hostetler played QB in Norv Turner's system. Norv recruited Hostetler to help him when he was in Frisco. I would say if there was anyone in the NFL that knows Turner's system, it would be Hostetler. Big deal, the 49ers were terrible and had NOBODY on offense the one year when Hostetler was the coordinator. It was a lame duck job and year - everyone knew Hoss would only be there for a year as the 49ers were looking to make wholesale changes after Norv left.
And when did being loyal to friends and an organization become a bad thing? I don't care if Harbaugh hires his dog-walker's dentist as long as he keeps winning. The Ravens have NOT had a LOSING season under Harbaugh. 5 Straight years in the play-off, 3 AFC championship games and a Super Bowl win. C'mon give me a break. Harbaugh is money. So is Ozzie and so is Stevie B. I'll trust their judgement on what this team needs over anybody posting on this site.
The moment that the Ravens start listening to their fans to make organizational decisions is the moment when we become the Dallas Cowboys.

Except they passed on Sammy Watkins and now Josh Gordon is gone for the year.....
