I do not believe that going all defense in free agency and the draft(except for a couple late round O lineman) and is not consistent with how the rules of the game have changed and how other successful teams are handling free agency and the draft. However, I will say basically that it seems Bisciotti is happy with mediocrity. He will say pretty much he doesn't know much about the football stuff and he leaves it to those who know, however, I would hope he is smart enough to realize his offense was 24th in the league and has done virtually nothing in free agency, when quality players were out there and the draft is suspect this year regardless of the high grades we received. Let remember, after drafting Elam and Brown we got an A+ grade from most of the pundits and how did that turn out. Draft grades mean nothing for three years and everyone will tell you that. Hopefully I am wrong but I don't think I am but I will be silent and spew no more negativity till we see how some of these guys turn out. Later folks.

Different teams have different players - you can't compare. What you could see last year is that Flacco and the "mediocre" offense had final minute game winning drives against Oakland (twice), the Giants & the Squealers only to see the defense give it away. If that doesn't happen, we are 11-5 without adding a "playmaker" on offense (If Perriman gets the foot down against the Skins that's a 12-4 record). Same with the play-off game in 2014 - 2 x 14 point leads against the Pansies. I bet Stevie B is tired of watching the defense give games away.

All last year, everyone cried that we had no secondary and no pass rush. Ozzie adds studs AND depth at both and now everyone is crying about a WR & RT. It's not Madden, can't fill every hole in one off-season. The maturation of Perriman & Moore should easily make up the difference of losing a declining SSS. Orr's loss hurts but Peanut is more than capable of filling in. Lewis, Nembot, Wesley are capable of handling the RT spot. Maybe not at the level of Wagner, but come on - that's the ONLY spot where we got "worse". Defense got significantly better and will be for the next 4 years. In one of the worst draft classes for WR & OL, why would you take a gamble on those positions? Next year's draft class for WR is the best since 2014 - same goes for OT.

It's chess not checkers - at least 5 moves ahead.

  2. Hey so, been thinking about it, but wouldn't Humphrey's yards per completion stat be inflated because of his prowess in the short game? If guy A lets everything be caught and then tackles the guy while guy B only lets things be caught down the field, then guy A has the move favorable yards per completion average, but isn't necessarily a better cornerback.

Or maybe he's just trash? I dunno.

I think it has more to do with Saban's system. Saban's CB are typically on an island with no help over the top. If Jimmy Smith lined up against Antonio Brown with no help from the Safeties during the game, his yards per completion and "giving up the long ball" would be hugely inflated.

  3. Mink,

A DE in a 2 gap 3-4 defense is not a "pass rush" position. His primary responsibility is defending both gaps against the run and tying up O-linemen. Asking if he will be a force rushing the passer is like asking if Mike Wallace will increase his rushing TDs on End Arounds. Very few players can excel at both. Given the choice, most coaches would rather have a player that's great at shutting down both gaps against the run. Any pass rush is a bonus. It's why Jernigan never succeeded at DE and was traded (not good against the run).

Yes wide receiver is a real concern BUT I do not believe that we have the O-Line solved yet. Yes we drafted 2 pieces but they were not top of the draft picks so it's questionable if either will be able to come close to starting and neither is a center. I do not think that either Urschel or Jensen can handle the starting center roll ..... Help Needed!

Nico Siragusa is starter material...Dude is a beast, who played every game that he was eligible in college. Look at his stats(or game film), he is not only a piledriver, but extremely durable to boot. I could easily see him starting at LG, and moving Alex Lewis to RT.(remember, Lewis played tackle in college, so not such a big transition for him.) As far as center, I wonder that Mangold and the Raven's don't have a handshake deal that he signs after June 1st. We'll have to wait and see...

Hope you are right but I do not have much confidence in him to start. Here is the NFL weakness report on him, pay particular attention to the comment pertainng to his reach ability on Middle LBR's...

"Labors coming out of stance. Tends to pop upright and is delayed in his lateral movements.

Reach blocks and cut-off blocks on middle linebackers are mission impossible.

Hands are a little slow with inconsistent placement. Impatient with punch and will get caught lunging. Has to work to keep weight balanced in pass sets. Unable to punch and mirror, allowing active rushers a pathway to his edge."

Consider the source. This is what happens when you just go to NFL website and read the "scouting report". That particular report was written by a 24 year old kid that has never played football.

While I'm not a big proponent of PFF, at least you can tell they actually watched game tape:

    "What he does best:

Siragusa can dominate defenders, particularly in gap scheme runs on the playside of power; earned a positive grade on 22 percent of plays on the playside of power, working very well on double-team blocks taking defensive linemen off the line of scrimmage.
Had third-highest pass-blocking efficiency among FBS guards; excelled in particular against bullrushes from defensive tackles.
Consistently found his targets and neutralized them at the second level and on pull blocks, especially kicking out defenders when pulling on power; Siragusa earned a positive grade on 23 percent of his pull blocks on power.
One of the most efficient run-blockers in college football in 2016, Siragusa was downgraded on only 7 percent of his run blocks last season.

    Biggest concern:

Struggled at times with cutoff blocks on the backside of outside zone.
The level of competition he faced leaves questions for how he will cope with the step up to the NFL level. His worst grade of the season by far (51.6 overall) came in the bowl game against Houston.
Siragusa lost his opportunity to allay some of these fears at the Senior Bowl after suffering an injury on the first day of practice.
Bottom line: Siragusa was one of PFF’s most productive guards in 2016. At his best in a gap scheme Siragusa is powerful at the point of attack and can drive defenders off of the line of scrimmage to disrupt linebackers at the second level just as well as he can drive them out of the play as the pull blocker on power. "

So, yes, he struggles with reach blocks and cut-off blocks but only on outside zone stretch plays. Btw, the Ravens RARELY run those and we are more of a gap - power man blocking scheme.

Flacco is not "making" 6 million this year. Ever hear of a signing bonus? Check out his average salary over the length of his contract to figure that out, since you obviously have no idea how to do so. Saying he makes "only" six million is not even remotely correct.

And when did he get the signing bonus? Not this year. $4 million of his cap number is from the signing bonus from 2013. And the other $13 million signing bonus is from 2016.

Average salary over the contract does not equal what you get paid. Maybe you should do some research on the salary cap.

Flacco's actual salary for 2017 is $ 6 million - that's how much cash he is getting paid this year, period. So I guess you count how much money you made over the last 5 years, average it out and then report that to the IRS as your salary for this year? That's how you do your taxes? SMH

I love how the defense is going to be insane for the coming season, thank you, thank you, thank you Ozzie for picking Tim Williams!

On the other hand, I'd be raging if I was Flacco. Apart from picking up Woodhead we've done nothing to help him do his job to a good enough level.  There's no reason why we couldn't have gone Ardarius Stewart/Chris Godwin & Tim Williams (in any order) in round 3. Perriman best be the crap this season or else we could be in trouble.

flacco needs to make the players around him better like $25 million qb's are paid to do

Flacco is making $6 million this year.

    Would like to get any three of these tonight;
    C Robinson OT (Ala)
    Carl Lawson DE (Aub)
    A Kamara RB (Tenn)
    Zay Jones WR (E Caro)
    R Mccmillian OLB (Ohio st.)
    P Eflien OL (Ohio ST.)
    E Pocic C (LSU)
    DD Westbrook WR (Okla)
    Cooper Kupp WR (E. Wash)
    JuJu Schuster WR (USC)

Heck No on Robinson OT Atleast not at 47. Hes long, athletic but whats the knock on him.. hes always on his backside. You cant draft a guy who is James Hurst 2.0 get Flaccos other knee ripped up.
If Lamp is available at 47, and they feel they cant pass him up.. ok.
Lamp is a Yanda type OG prospect, kick out Lewis to RT and sign Mangold to OC and were set.

Otherwise wait til 3rd round and Moton or Dawkins should be still on the board grab 1,

But I really want Wr, and Pass Rusher addressed next 2 picks
Zay Jones, Smith Schuster, Samuel, Kupp

Tim Williams, Willis, Rivers, Bashem, Lawson DE/OLBr

Sleeper picks, i wouldnt be shocked if Malik McDowell slides to 47, Ozzie grabs him. Top 15 talent, questions bout his motor,

What tape are you watching? Cam manhandled every pass rusher in this draft. He even shut down Myles Garrett except for 1 play. He's KO 2.0

    ^^^ THIS!!!!

doesn't take a genius to know the ravens have slipped in recent drafts. let's not be a homer in the face of evidence

What evidence? You name a player the Ravens drafted that hasn't worked out and I'll name 5 players drafted ahead of him that are bigger busts.

50% of ALL 1st Round Picks are Busts! 85% of ALL players drafted never become starters.

    1

  9. Perfect day 2 scenario.. that would make up for Yesterdays garbage pick.

Rnd 2 47 Zay Jones, Smith Schuster WRs, or Williams, Lawson, Rivers, Bowser Pass Rushers
Rnd 3 picks 74&78 Moton, or Dawkins for 1 pk, either WR or Pass rush whatever you dont get in rnd 2..

Humphrey punked JuJu in their match-up - looked like Revis playing against a high school WR - absolutely dominated him. If Humphrey is garbage, then you definitely don't want JuJu - if a WR can't beat a garbage CB, he doesn't belong in the NFL, right?

    4

  10. Things that I don't understand about everyone's comments:

    1) Did everyone just forget that Jimmy has injury issues and that Carr is pretty old? I don't get the hate

    2) So is everyone just really low on Judon and Zadarius? Everyone is freaking out about pass like we have nobody on the roster. Yes, we need to draft someone high. Yes, the Ravens missed out on a few guys just 3 spots ahead of us and tried to trade up. But it's not like we don't have people, like we haven't spent draft capitol on the position. I think Judon has a HUGE year. .

    3) Only 2 of the top linemen went in the first round, both several picks after us. Everyone suggesting we should have reached at 16 to get a lineman is out of their mind. To everyone saying we should have traded back, we tried and failed, and that's just fine. Top 3 Centers, top guard, and another top tackle still on the board. Chill out.

    4) WRs still available: Zay Jones, JuJu S-S, DeDe Westbrook, Kooper Cupp. If we took Howard we would have HAD to move him to TE

THE DRAFT ISN'T OVER YET. THERE IS STILL 6 ROUNDS. Jeez man. It's like people think there are only 32 players available to improve your team.

Agree 100% especially on Judon. His game tape and college stats are better than any of the pass rushers in this draft (including Barnett). Only knock on Judon was he played against D2 competition. But he showed last year that those skills will play in the NFL.

    Foster is Rolando McClain 2.0.

And Howard may be great, but at the end of the day, he's a Freakin TE. How many play-off games have the Bengals won with Eifert? How about the Skins with Jordan Reed? Howard could only dream he's as good as those guys.

  11. We gotta get Derek rivers he is the perfect pick can't afford to wait till 3rd round

    Derek Rivers, DE/OLB, Youngstown State
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 248. Arm: 32.75.
    40 Time: 4.61.
    Projected Round (2017): 2-4.
4/26/17: Rivers ran fast at the combine and showed some athleticism. As a senior, he totaled 58 tackles with 19.5 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, one forced fumble and one pass batted. Rivers showed his pass-rush skills with eight sacks as a junior and 13 as a sophomore. He could end up being a second-day pick.

Just stop. This is what happens when you just read scouting reports put together by some guy in a cubicle.

Rivers has some pass rush skills. But he has short arms & small hands, is horrible against the run and has only played against basically Div 2 O-lineman. He's a project at best. Not exactly the guy you want to gamble on in the 2nd or 3rd Round in this deep draft.

He got Torched in College. With an epic Front 7 in front of him? Please explain how that translates to stopping Ben and Brady, not to mention being the 16th pick

No, he didn't get torched in College.

My educated guess is that you watched him play Clemson (one single game), where he didn't play well (and was playing against top flight WRs in college) and thus applied that to him as a player overall.

    Very lazy.

Exactly. Watch the USC game where he dominated JuJu (1 catch for 9 yards). This kid is a stud.

This guy got absolutely torched down the field, IN COLLEGE, with one of the best Front 7's of all time in front of him................
You're telling me you want that going up against Brady and Ben? When It matters. Especially this year? We'll see.
In any case, I agree, let's kick butt day 2. It IS make or break time

What happened when your "better version of Boldin" WR JuJu lined up against him? 1 catch for 9 yards. Humphrey dominated him. So, if Humphrey is a bum CB, then JuJu must be a horrible WR that can't play against press coverage.

In Saban's defense, CB are put on an island with no safety help. Yes he got burned in a few games but he dominated in a few games as well. Kid is big, fast, physical, has elite closing speed and is only 20 years old! He needs to work on some technique issues - but that's it. Will be a stud CB in this league.

BS. Foster is Rolando McClain 2.0 (McClain was much more talented). Too many off-field issues - drug use, nightclub shooting, combine, failed drug test. It doesn't take a genius to figure out where that train is headed. And you think another TE is going to make that much difference? Did you not see Joe lead the team to game winning TDs against Oak, NYG & PIT only to see the defense give it away???

Quit reading media analyst regurgitated scouting reports and actually watch some game tape. Humphrey is big, fast and physical. Outside of Lattimore, by far the the 2nd best CB in the draft. Same guy that cries that our CBs play 8 yards off the line is now the guy saying that a fast top notch press corner is a bad pick...SMH

    Maybe I'm completely wrong.

    100%

Foster has too many off field issues - drug use, nightclub shootings, failed drug test, combine, etc. He's more Rolando McClain than CJ Mosely.

Allen is a DE in a 4-3. Why would the Ravens draft a pass rushing DE and then put him in our system where DE are asked to cover 2 gaps to stuff the run and not rush the passer?

    Round 2: OLB Carl Lawson

    Round 3: RT Roderick Johnson
    Round 4: RB Kareem Hunt
    Round 5: C Tyler Orlosky
    Round 6: QB Brady Gustafson

What I think the Ravens will do:

Round 1: OLB Takkarist McKinley (or RT Cam Robinson on trade back)
    Round 2: CB Kevin King
    Round 3: DE Tanoh Kpassagnon
    Round 3: C Ethan Pocic
    Round 4: RB Brian Hill
    Round 5: RT Darrell Williams
    Round 6: WR Deangelo Yancey

I like the top one. your ideal draft. Those top 4 picks would be perfect, except I would prioritize getting Eflein in there for our Center for the next 10 years.
    We need to draft Teez.
If Davis isn't there at 16, I would trade down to get that extra pick for Eflein, and make sure I draft Ju Ju.
Here's my ideal draft with a trade down out of 16-

    Forrest Lamp
    Ju Ju
    Carl Lawson
    Teez
    Eflein
    Roderick Johnson

Then if it were still possible to get Perine, that would be amazing. I haven't really studied Hunt yet at all

That would be an INSANE draft class for us

Teez and Lawson are top 15 talents imo. Crazy to me how much their stock has fallen over the past month

I think JuJu & Lawson go in the top half of Round 2 so I can't see getting both even with a trade back (probably a 3rd in return).

And I don't really care which of the 3 Centers we get - they all have talent IMO. I think we have a handshake deal with Nick Mangold and he will sign after the May comp pick deadline.

It's going to be interesting to see who falls during the draft - 1 of the S could fall - how far does Peppers fall (2nd Round possibly) - which CB falls. IMO, any of the Top 25 players could be selected anywhere from picks #2-#32. Davis, Williams, Foster, Barnett could all easily be gone before we pick or they could all easily be there when we pick.

Drew Brees makes everyone on his team better. He does not have top WR talent and still puts up 5000k yards a year. Flacco does not.

Well he had a first round pick in Brandin Cooks, now has a top tier WR like Michael Thomas to throw to, and also played with Jimmy Graham who put up quality numbers with Seattle.

As is normally the case, the real answer is in the middle. There's not a single QB in NFL history who has produced without quality talent around them. That includes Brees, Brady, and any other QB the ignorant fans think just make receivers look good.

My point overall with to dismiss this notion that teams that have highly paid QBs don't need to use quality draft picks on receiving targets around them. The Saints have a very highly paid QB, and they've used a 1st (one they traded up to get) and a 2nd on receivers in recent years.

The top 3 receivers on Green Bay... all 2nd round picks. That's called making a high investment in the position.

What makes you think Cooks,Thomas and Graham would be "stars" with Flacco at QB? OK, so Pitta had a ton of receptions but no yardage. There are QB's like Brady, Rodgers, Brees and even Carr... and then are are QB's like Flacco, Dalton and Tannehill. People need to get real at the Ravens probably can't wait to get out from underneath Flacco's SB contract.

So, you think the Raiders should let Carr walk instead of paying him $150 million? Or keep Carr and let Amari Cooper walk? How about Matt Ryan - you paying him $150 million or letting him walk? Then what about Julio? How about Matt Stafford - you paying him $150 million or letting him walk?

$100 million was the going rate for a good QB, 5 years ago. $150 million is now the going rate.

And Brady, Rodgers & Brees are Hall of Fame QBs. CJ Mosley will get paid more than Ray Lewis ever did - I guess you expect him to be way better than Ray, right???

    Rnd 4-Dawkins OL
    Rnd 5- Jalen Myrick CB
    Rnd 6- Zach Banner OL

It's gonna stay a dream. Barnett is possible, and its possible to end up with a cpl of the guys you mention, but.....

Foster isnt dropping much if at all, and especially not to the 2nd round. Even if he did (he wont) Hue Jackson wouldnt let him get past 33. And theres probably 13 other teams that wouldnt either.

JuJu might be around 3rd and i bet Tankersley will, but Juju could be gone 2nd and Tank sucks.

Dawkins is going 2nd round. We might not even have a shot at 47. Though id be very happy with him there.

Myrick and Banner might be ok.

So, choose one of Barnett/Foster.... though my guess is we'll be lucky to have even 1 of them fall to us. Both might be long gone.

And you prob have to pick one of JuJu or Dawkins. Though there is an outside chance JuJu falls to the 3rd so its prob ok to project that in a dream scenario.

And if Tank's your dream in the 3rd - get a new dream. Prob would say the same for Myrick and Banner - but to each their own.

I really like Myrick. I think he is very under rated bc he player CB in the big 10 but watch some of the tape on him.... the kid is the real deal.

Tankersly has the athletic ability but he does seem to have a little more trouble tracking the ball and transitioning. He seems like more of a project then Myrick to me

If Banner is there in the 6th he is a steal. In the 5th he is worth a chance and has more ability then Hurst.... but I don't think he is worth a 4th round pick (unless we really feel that he has the raw potential for Greg Roman to turn him into a gem)

Banner is horrible. He's not an NFL O-lineman.

Watch the game tpe here and watch how many times he 1) gets beat 2) misses a block or 3) the guy he's blocking makes the tackle.

I hope we take extra care of Achilles it seems to be the popular injury lately especially our secondary

When the average person hears about injuries, especially Achilles, most would assume that it's because of lack of strength and conditioning. But there are other several factors that could be at play. Popular antibiotics such as Cipro & Levaquin have show a direct relation to ruptured tendons (so much so, the FDA advises against them). Taking Corticosteroids like Cortisone, Hydrocortisone & Prednisone has also shown to increase Achilles tendonitis & ruptures.

A player could have bronchitis or a sinus infection and be taking Cipro as an antibiotic with a Symbicort breathing treatment and he's just increased his chances of an Achilles tear or rupture exponentially.

With staph infections rampant in the NFL the last few years (JJ Watt almost lost his leg last year), I can imagine the use of Cipro & Z-Pak has been huge - thus the significant increase in Achilles injuries.

Antonio Brown & Brandon Marshall agree with you, the Ravens should definitely trade up in the 1st Round for the highest rated WR and stud play-maker. Just imagine how they would look if they did that to take WR Kevin White, DGB, LaQuan Treadwell & Justin Hunter - the size and speed - WOW. That would be like 18 Super Bowls in a row! With that WR core, Flacco would throw at least 80 TDs and 10,000 yards in a season......
