  1. It was Juice that missed the blitzing LB. So according to your example, that's not being coached properly and Harbaugh & Trestman should be fired right? Perfect example of players not executing - has ZERO to do with the coaching staff. Great play call, horrible execution. Same with the defense. When you let a slow, white QB scramble for a 12 yard Touchdown, NOT the DC fault. When you let this happen (Look how many Ravens downfield vs. Browns) - NOT the DC's fault: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000554250/Browns-Taylor-Gabriel-makes-56-yard-grab When you miss tackles like this, NOT the Defensive Coordinator's fault: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000554313/Can-t-Miss-Play-Can-t-stop-Crowell You can talk all that jazz about firing Dean Pees, but bottom line, if you cover like that & tackle like that, you will lose no matter if Buddy Ryan, Tom Landry or George Halas was coaching your defense.
  2. Steve Smith's salary is $4.1 million but $1.1 million is guaranteed so that would still count against the salary cap regardless if SSS retires or gets cut. $ 4.1 million - $ 1.1 million = $3 million So, he frees up $ 3 million - Who's not counting right? Right now the Ravens are about $10 million under the salary cap for next year, NOT counting Yanda, KO, Tucker, etc or any UFA the Ravens have. Assuming Flacco reworks his deal to what he's getting paid now ($14.5 million - ranked 12th in NFL), that frees up another $14 million. If, like you say, the Ravens keep Yanda & Tucker and let everyone else walk, those two will add $10 million ($8 million for a top G and $2 million for top K). So that leaves about $14 million left. The draft picks will take up another $5-6 million, leaving $8-9 million WITHOUT adding a single player. Second, this is Alshon's first real contract and he's one of the higher end young WRs. So based off the 1st real contracts of other WRs: Dez $ 14 million, Demarius Thomas $ 14 million, Julio $ 14 million, Maclin $ 11 million, VJax $ 11 million, Cobb $ 10 million, Torrey $ 8 million, I would slot Alshon behind the big 3 but ahead of Maclin. So, basically $12 million per. SSS & Dumervil were late off season cuts when most teams had little cap space left. Boldin was a 30 year old WR that still got $8 million per year back in 2010 - not exactly under market. Monroe was an average LT for 4 years with the Jags (which is why they dealt him), so not exactly a top shelf LT when he hit the FA market. None of those examples really compare to Alshon's FA situation. Especially considering that he is by far the best FA on a really weak WR market next year (the next two guys - Percy Harvin, Michael Crabtree), he is easily in the $10 - 14 million range (I split the difference). Again, Dallas, Atlanta, Detroit all pay top dollar for WR's, guess what they all have in common? They are watching the play-offs from home come January. Guess what teams don't pay top dollar for WR's? Seattle, New England, Baltimore, Green Bay. See the pattern? In fact, I bet if you look at the stats of free agent WRs AFTER they sign a big deal, it will prove even more that paying top $ for a #1 WR is not a good investment. (See Dez 2015, Damarius 2015, Golden Tate 2014, DeSean Jackson 2014, Mike Wallace 2013, Jennings 2013 - all the top WR free agents that year)
  3. He has to clear waivers first....
  4. Suggs would add $8 million of dead money to the cap, an increase of about $1.5 million over what he would cost to the salary cap if he stays. We've all seen this year how bad it is to have so much dead money tied up - you have no salary cap space to sign quality depth.
  5. Best comment on here in a long time! Thanks for your service
  6. Well, now we can spend less time on game-planning and more time on scouting. Also a good time to see what some of our young players can do. KO & Yanda are both free agents, lets get Urschel in there and see if he can lock down a spot. Same thing with Arthur Brown. Daryl Smith is horrible in pass coverage, let's see what Brown can do for you, so we can make the decision to keep or move on. Less reps for Canty, more reps for Davis, Za'Darius, KLM. Arrington is another one who is terrible in zone coverage, let's get the kids in there - Tray Walker, Melvin, Charles James, etc. Let's see if we can move some players for draft picks - Arrington, Daryl Smith, Canty, Dumervil, Monroe all come to mind. Get whatever you can - their play has fallen off a cliff this year and will only get worse a year later, a year older.
  7. You are forgetting the salary cap. Smith will free up about $3 million, Jeffrey will want $12 million. You still need salary cap space to get deals done with Flacco, Tucker, Yanda, KO, Upshaw, etc. So in order to sign Jeffrey you're are giving up one of those players. Yanda & 3rd Round pick is NOT a good deal...
  8. A little premature. Remember, Torrey was SO BAD his rookie year the Ravens TRADED FOR Lee Evans to upgrade at WR.
  9. The Ravens put him on IR which means his season is done (He cannot come back even if he was healthy). I think an earlier article stated that this was just because the Ravens needed a roster spot. His injury may not have been season ending but the Ravens can't afford to roster Camp, SSS & Perriman while they wait. They would have had to cut a player to roster Givens, instead they IR'ed Camp. Teams only get one IR-designated to return player - the Ravens already used that on Urban.
  10. Dead Horse. The 49ers are 1-2 with Q & Torrey but they are $14 million in the hole at WR and had to let most of their FA sign elsewhere because of it...Ask a 49er fan if he thinks Torrey is worth $40 million....
  11. Not really, but if you have ever seen him in street clothes you know why he is always hurt in the NFL. Some guys are just too small for the NFL.
  12. I agree that the defense played better but keep in mind that Michael Vick was at QB - not exactly Manning, Brady, Luck, Dalton. And I think they got helped by some terrible play calling by the Squealers. Bell was running all over the Ravens, I don't know why they didn't feed him the ball more. Even in obvious run situations against a stacked line, he still got 4-5 yards. I saw some terrible tackling and players quitting on the play (Bell's run on the outside, Zuttah looking around while his man sacked Joe, Brown's punt return, etc).
  13. Vegas line has nothing to do with what team is better, what team should win, etc. A Vegas line has to do with the number of bets, PERIOD. With Ben out, no one is betting on the Squealers as a favorite and most were betting on Baltimore plus the points; therefore, the oddsmakers switched the line to get more people to bet on the Squealers by giving them the points.
  14. Yes because the $13 million in salary for Q and Torrey have helped the 49ers to 1st place especially with a combined total of 19 catches for 243 yards and 2 TDs in 3 games....That's 7 catches and 89 yards better than Aiken & Marlon - definitely WAY BETTER and WAY WORTH the extra $12 million...
  15. You're right, Ozzie should be more like the Cowboys (Dez), the Falcons (Julio/Roddy), the Lions (Megatron/Tate), Bengals (AJ Green), the Bills (Sammy Watkins), the Bucs (Mike Evans/VJax), etc. Those teams have CLEARLY shown that paying or drafting skill positions especially at WR means that they go deep into the play-offs and have HUGE success Winning in January. Oz should definitely listen to GM Jerry Jones and disregard everything he has done in the past.
  16. That's ridiculous. You think a washed up 35 year old DE off the street would help win a game? He had 2 sacks ALL of last year - TWO!!!! That's 1 sack every 8 games..so by my calculation, he won't get a sack until the game against San Diego. That's IF he can even learn the play calls (This has been a problem his ENTIRE career). That's why he's played for 9 different teams in 11 years. I don't think he's as good as Upshaw, Smith or even McClellan at this point. The lack of pass rush has hurt us but Daryl Smith & Kyle Arrignton have been HORRIBLE in zone coverage. And Kendrick Lewis has been atrocious as well. You can call out Dean Pees all you want but when your LB & Nickle Corner can't cover and your FS can't cover or tackle - it's not going to matter what plays you call.
  17. Alshon will be a free agent next year, giving up top draft picks to rent a guy for a season (where you started 0-3) is just not very smart no matter how desperate you are at WR. I think the Ravens would be smart to target a couple of talented WRs that have falling out of favor or expendable with their current team. Cordarrelle Patterson, Dontre Moncrief, Michael Floyd, DeVante Adams, Reuben Randle all come to mind. Given that the Ravens will probably get a 3rd Round Comp pick for Tyrod Taylor (and a 4th for Torrey), it seems like it would be easy to swing one of these guys without having to give up a top pick. IMO, Cordarrelle could easily be had for a 4th Rounder - he gives you size & speed at WR AND a legit Punt/Kick Returner. Adams & Moncrief would probably cost you more but those teams have sick WR depth. But I agree with you, we need to make a move at WR.
  18. Forsett looks like the 30 year old journeyman RB he always was. Taliaferro looks like a 3 yard, "smash into walls" RB and Buck Allen still has the fumbling issues that he's always had. Montee Ball???
  19. The play on the field is definitely lacking but I have to give the blame to the coaching staff on the last 2 losses. You have 6'6" Gilmore, 6'6" Darren Waller & 6'5" Marlon Brown but you throw the ball in the flat to 5' Campanaro? Last week, same thing - you throw to 5'8" Steve Smith. C'mon man! Dump off passes to Juice are not going to win games. On the D side, AJ Green has literally beat you at the end of the game for the past 3 years. How is this guy NOT double covered?
  20. But the Steelers can't buy an O-lineman, Pass Rusher or Cornerback despite using 1st & 2nd Round picks on in almost every draft. Ravens make their money on knowing O-line & Defense - which, as Bio said, makes a better overall team that wins in January.
  21. Returners are still overrated. With over 50% of kickoffs resulting in touchbacks (and creeping closer to 60%), the traditional role of returner is going the way of the Fullback. On top of that, look at the teams with the most AVG Kickoff Return Yards last year (Oakland, Carolina, Tennesee, etc) and you'll not see many play-off teams. Also, Baltimore was 24th in Punt return average last year when we had a so called "legit punt returner". I could be the Ravens punt returner and we would only fall 8 spots. Play-off and SB heroics aside, if you look at the numbers, Jacoby has been considered one of the best returners in the game. But in 3 years and 44 regular season games with the Ravens, he's only scored a total of 4 TDs on Punt AND KO returns COMBINED. His punt return has averaged less than 10 yards (3 steps forward). Sure, specials teams is important, but I would rather have a guy that catches and never fumbles, than have a guy like Jones, Asa, Carter, etc that may take it to the house once or twice a season.
  22. Proven....lol. You actually have to at least start 1 Game in the NFL to be "proven". You're right, Oz and the Ravens have no clue what they are doing, they should definitely listen to you and maybe they might actually have a winning season and finally make it to the play-offs....
  23. Brown was an undrafted free agent. As far as "wasting" a pick, I don't agree. Using a 4th or 6th Round pick on 1st or 2nd round talent has as good a chance to pan out as drafting a player. Yes, Urban & KLM haven't worked out, but neither has draft picks John Simon, Robert Myers, etc. Assuming a late round draft pick will help this team is a bit faulty. Same as assuming injured college players are injured NFL players. James Hurst has been a solid pick-up despite a serious injury in college (keeping him from being drafted). Same goes for Frank Gore, Aaron Colvin, Travis Kelce, etc, etc. It really depends on the individual. Plenty of players have come back from torn ACLs - Tom Brady, Jamal Charles, AP, Yanda, Gronk, Von Miller, Revis, etc. The NFL is a violent sport where injuries happen to every player. If you've ever seen Campanaro in person, you know exactly why he is always getting hurt. Don't get me wrong, love the guy, but sometimes players just aren't built for the rigors of the NFL. At the end of the day, the draft is a crap shoot - 50% of ALL players drafted in the 4th round or later never make it to the end of their rookie contract.
