  1. The new rule may have a lot of teams second guessing taking certain tackles. The elimination of the chop block from all aspects seems to make the line of zone blocking teams pourous and tenuous. A lot of adjustments will have to be made. In fact I don't know how it will look going forward. Especially this year. Ding & Dunk? Option? being the most most successful? It's going to shake up quite a few boards. Elliot would be best player available but Hargreaves should outweigh him as BPA @ a position of need.
  2. Ramsey is consensus top 5 but I see a potential slide un imagined. He will make to us. This is going to be a strange draft? QB's will be hotly sort after. SD already talking of trading out. They want what the Ravens want picks. Watch.
  3. Spence doesn't seem like a Ravens pick to me. I see reach with him totally. How does he sneak up from the mid second into the top 6. That to means teams didn't know he played. Just not sold on the leap. Period. Nice player wrong spot. I think he could be had in the twenties. Trade back consideration only. JMO Unless you feel he's the steal of the draft. Boom or bust candidate if I ever saw one. I see bust. he's extremely slow to get around the tackle. The speed of the game and o-line technique is by far greater then his tape displays. No unique moves. Squat, nodda, nil.
  4. A backfield of Weddle/Hargreaves/J.smith/S.Wright/Cravens Hybrid-lb(safety)/Webb and those vying from the current roster and practice squad for the final spot would be a nasty proposition. Webb is the wildcard due to injury concern. He should be more durable not less at safety but I'd like an insurance policy.
  5. Exactly. The good hands teams employed routinely and with scheme capabilities. Imagine the chaos and confusion that'd have on the teams that have elite receivers. The focal point would be to claim the box and make it a 50/50 shot at a deep completion. The middle is contested via pass rush effectiveness. Turnovers abate marginal to medium progress and 1st downs. The cerebral players will remain in specific gaps unless a known cue thru tape study of tendencies alters the course. Weddle plays shift commander/reinforced by Webb currently. CJ, commands the middle with a draft pick in tow. We have serviceable stopgaps already on the roster. But do look for Ozzie to get another before or during training camp. Post june cuts have yet to occur. Innovation is always the wave of the future. Soon we may even be trend setters.
  6. Your on to them. They reinstated the scheme with their most recent signing. Just in the form of double bulk. It could conceivably work in the dink and dunk to open up the rest of the field. Those sneaky Pats.
  7. I can agree. High/mid level ride the pines aren't what I'm envisioning either. All I know is we can make some strange selections (Cody, A. Brown) in the draft. Sometimes i'm POed after the draft. The truly test of my smoking cessation is in slightly over 30 days lol. The first three selections need to make sense. And waiting and hoping their guys isn't plucked strategy stinks. I know we won't get them all but waisted draft capital we can't afford. Not looking stupid is also key in this retooling year. I hear rumblings of a Freeney signing maybe in the works. Serviceable which will aid them in not having to settle/reach for lesser. We'll see.
  8. Agreed. Big tree that can easy be cut down at the knees. Now if the new rule causes the chop block to be eliminated then he maybe viable by default. His technique really worries me most. He seems to bend either too early or balance from the angle of attack needs work. Either way it seems to need work. Urban is still a work in progress for us. Adding another in the mix seems ominous. I'd like fluid savvyness or a pure brute style over bang him in the mouth type over what Buckner has shown in the limited film and actual game viewership I've seen. Bucks big but what else does he bring to the table.
  9. Harbaugh type dude with a clean slate. The best thing to me is just about everything. Change of direction to mirror and them hands. Not much not to like. Every DB has a bad game. Even Revis. It's just how often. Vernon @ 6th.
  10. I think in certain situations teams have to have some sort of sub package or scheme design that effectively incorporates double duty players. The hallmark of our defense has been shifting towards hybrids with base being stout run defenders. Maybe the new norm is now Passing league type teams mandate speed, technique and sure tackling. But I see D.Smith release as a effort to shift into the aforementioned direction. Smith could tackle but offered no speed nor pass rush. The only concerns we are rush and backend. In a perfect draft J.Smith would have fit the bill. Multiple positional players on both ends of the ball is a template that I'm advocating. I remember your not as high on Cravens but his pick history and tape has me looking long term. Early predictions had him going to the Steelers. Don't know if it still rings true aka Polamalu type. If he's seemingly of that mold I'm all in. But I do understand your reservations. I recommend reading up on these prospects guys/gals and ATHLON SPORTS is at barnes and nobles currently. Good read.
  11. I gotta agree with you. They can't afford to not explore the position and they have no viable team, Rebuilding with a franchise QB is a no brainer. Core pieces will take much longer then passing on the signal caller of their liking. RG can't currently be thought of as the answer, at least not solely the only option. Multiple plans would be prudent.
  12. Matters but the tape means more. Ozzie eluded to instincts as being key with Watson. I think Ozzie will be less willing to potentially tip his hand in regards to any coveted player as in their own words stated they view this draft as a must nail it type to remain in striking distance. Teams have been interestingly mum on allfronts. Event he projections in the top five remain fluid and far less predictable then previous years. JMoberservation/take on the process.
  13. Russsell was one of those I liked when watching the games for two seasons. Seems to have viable skills to be coached up. The one knock on him after reading about his skill set (Athlon Sports) is instincts. For some the lightbulb clicks on through reps and film study. For some not so much or at all. But I'd definitely take a long look at him. Round ? because I'm not quite sure. He'd also need to bulk up a little more and frame/length suggest he could handle more for physicality purposes. Your statement in the last paragraph last sentence shows you like to gamble by nature. (Not that you do). I like that mindset. I think sure things can easily become sure misses as well. It's what you do with the coaching and talent(s) you possess. Hargreaves at minimum gets to shutdown the slot and speedy receiver. Weddle plays spoiler and mop up duty. I'm looking for post draft cuts of those at redundant positions. They will be jettisoned for the sake cap space for the immediate and distant futures.
  14. Hargreaves looked great thus far during the drills today. Espn is televising Florida's pro day.
  15. I think you maybe right about the position and the player. The addition of Weddle probably offsets any concerns about size for Hargreaves as Weddle would probably cheat towards Hargreaves in obvious mismatches. Pick progress in the making. Two great hands DB in the same vicinity seems ideal. I don't by the Alexander pick cause he has none. As someone mentioned they noted numerous wobbly ducks were the penchant from QB's that threw his way most often. I watching the drills now and Hargreaves is representing his skill set as elite in movements. If the challenge is to coach him up to not get beat then I think he would fair well as he is extremely smart and Weddle and company can help until he make the transition. I see honey badger potential all day and all night with Vernon. He's the only pick at six for me currently. There Linebackers that have pick capabilities in the second round. I would like to see a great/good hands team being fielded in conjunction with sure tackling, ergo safety/linebacker (Sua Creavens). I know many may say No. But have players that play the ball and not just the man seemly would produce turnovers.
  16. I remember J.Clowney as being touted as the best player in the draft ! By far he's been anything but ! Sometimes the tape and stats tells LIES. There's only one prospect that looks sure fire and it's Tunsil. Everyone else looks like hit or miss in the top five projections. Just as much praise was heaped upon Clowney with disastrous results for the unfortunate team that selected him. Remember we really have to hit this draft. Money to me says we trade back a few.
  17. I think your correct if we truly go best player available. Is he a need no but to me he does represent BPA as an aside to Hargreaves. He'd be our answer to Bell. We do need to get consistent play out of the backfield. He's thought to represent such. I don't know if greater value could had by bypassing him for BP of need.
  18. I am of the impression that there is top notch quality and scheme specific ones for us in rounds 2 thru 4. There is still a lot of age on this roster that will have have to be filtered out in the foreseeable future. Suggs, Dumerville, immediately come to mind. The Salary cap situation maybe even more daunting next year as players salaries have been pushed back and added to. Not saying I know all the facts about it. But I see adding multiple pieces of the same position being viable to get an early assessment and allowing the draft prospect and earlier introduction into the NFL's speed of the game. Every position needs intense competition during OTA's. May the best man win that would be cost effective. Camp and Arrington to name a couple need to be put on notice and now. If you don't shine then you need to go. Time and money is not on your side but drafting at suspect positions. By keeping head scratching Brown leads to believe Ozzie wants to send a strong message that may the best man win and they are willing to draft same position players and let the heard/ flock thin itself out thru OTA's due to injury, lack of consistency, low football IQ, trade bait, cost effectiveness, poor technique, etc. To me the logical thing to do is gather more picks and pick the first four rounds as thin as possible. And I don't see most positions on the current roster as being set in stone. I mean many. Yanda, Tucker, And Koch are locks.
  19. I think there is no question that we trade back. I really don't see a single player that would be I just got to have him @ six. Even if Tunsils there I think if the right combo of picks is there, he'd take it. He could do so much damage in the pick order. You already see the Patriots bracing for such a move by their most recent moves. Ozzie could pick this draft dry. He'd have a mid 1st plus 2 seconds, 2 thirds, 4 forths, and the possibility of reentering the fifth via a future trade. I don't think Ozzie would even miss getting a first next year. Actually I'm pulling for them to trade back. A impactful player will still be in the mix no matter where they land in the first. Flexibility is key for this draft.
  20. Nice draft.
  21. Nice find with Grant. I'd definitely take a long look @ him. He's on somebody's radar.
  22. It's interesting that the media isn't paying much attention to this story and hasn't truly addressed it but cast it as Breaking News. If it had been Brady or Favre it would be talked about at nauseum. I truly hope it's there way of respecting the families privacy. Also the idea of Patriots player alleged involvement is curiously media muted. Baltimore can't get it's proper due even in tragedy.
  23. Me either.
  24. I'm on the fence with the first statement. Well actually I'm not. Camp needs to be dealt for a draft pick lol. He hasn't shown me squat. Bust Bum notta nil nilch see yeah let the door knob hit yeah where the good lord slit yeah. Brown and he need to be jettisoned. Why waste the resources ! We won't get a draft pick but we can at least get his uniform number back @ best
  25. I'd take a late flyer. He wasn't that special (Upshaw). But if (Sua Cravens) is there in the middlings I'm on it. So to reaffirm your statement, your absolutely correct. Dudes a pick magnet/machine. Not that your advocating for Cravens. I am.
