  1. There seems to be a lot of spoiled fans on this site. Yes, we can play better and yes it can be frustrating at times, but if your not happy then jump ship we don't need you. We've had a great run the past decade. Not too many teams in this league can say that they've made the playoffs as much as we have since Flacco has been here - now its a standard? This is the NFL. There's too much parity in this league to continue success. There's only one team out there that has had better success than us over that time and its the Pats unfortunately.

Enjoy being #1 in the division. We still have a shot at this. Just stop being so damn spoiled!

Ray said this for Joe to hear...

Ray said this to bring attention to Ray!  I loved Lewis as a player and he does great things for the community.  However, he is HORRIBLE as an analyst and just wants to bring attention to himself.  Just because Joe doesn't have his leadership style does not mean he is not a leader.  Ray-Do us all a favor and use your passion to help out the community and leave Flacco alone!  If he (or anyone else for that matter) want to criticize Flacco's play--Fine--He deserves that because we all know Flacco has not played well this year.--But don't question his leadership--That leadership helped bring you a 2nd title!

JOE NEEDS TO HEAR THIS! I highly doubt Ray is doing this for himself, he gets attention anywhere he goes. I think he's trying to light a fire under JOE to get him going. I like it.

No it's not. Dean Blandino (President of NFL Officiating) said it's a foul and should be called. If the contact happens after the whistle whether that's microseconds or not, it's a penalty. Even in the NFL rulebook it states, "If in doubt about a roughness call or potentially dangerous tactics, the covering official(s) should always call unnecessary roughness."

Well, as is the case with just about every rule in the rulebook, it is inherently subjective. Its great to say that even if its late contact microseconds after the whistle is blown that a penalty SHOULD be called, but that's not really practical, because human beings don't have the ability to judge that in microseconds, which is why you see penalties that some people think are "late" non-called on a weekly basis.

In this case, I'm fine with the no-call, particularly when Sherman's contact is largely driven by the officials error in no blowing the play dead in time to avoid the contact. If I'm Sherman, I'm certainly no risking injury to myself to make a split second change in course in order to avoid contact that the officials didn't attempt to stop.

Again, there's the subjective "letter of the law" and then there's the practical enforcement of such rules in real time. Its why I always laugh off these post-game analysis of penalties enforced or not enforced, because they are utterly meaningless.

Which is why the rule states if there is any doubt or controversy, call the penalty. It's specifically written that way to cover "subjective" plays like this that happen in "real time". When in doubt, call the penalty. It's a note at the end of almost all rules in the NFL rule book.

It doesn't matter when the officials blow the play dead - you can't hit the kicker, just like you can't hit a guy out of bounds - whether before, after or during the whistle - the whistle has zero bearing on the penalty. On top of that, Sherman is the one committing the initial foul - he knew he was offsides, whistle or not and proceeded to dive at the kicker. No one is suggesting he try to change his trajectory or "pull up" but that's still no excuse. Regardless of the reasons why, it still happened, and its a penalty. Period. The NFL confirmed it.

Isnt it funny, that the NFL confirms it was a missed call but then you have ppl argue otherwise lol. That is just foolish. There's no point in arguing with those types.

"Actually they can't throw a roughing the kicker penalty on a play they blew dead," That don't make no sense. SO if they blow the play dead before he kicks it than you can take the QB head off before he throws it after the they blow it dead?

They can call unnecessary roughness, not roughing the kicker. They are two different penalties, though they yield the same yardage enforcement.

If you took the QBs head off very late after the play was blown dead, you wouldn't get a roughing the passer penalty... you would get an unnecessary roughness penalty.

Same thing as a late hit out of bounds.

i think most ppl here are just confused on how you can argue that the hit was ok because of a technicality. You said you were ok with the no-call??? Thats just crazy lol. Sometimes its ok to be wrong my friend and just accept it.

  5.  No flacco didn't play a great  game but once again every single time the offense gets some rhythm going a damn penalty stalls out the drive. Had a nice drive going early on where he hit Aiken for a first down in the redzone and either a holding or illegal formation moved them back. Same thing on another drive when we were in  feild goal range. Joe  catches all the flack and he does need to play better but the drive stalling flags have got to stop. Help a brother out.

That illegal formation was Flacco's fault. Re-watch the play and its evident that was on Flacco

  6. 1. Our defense could potentially take us far this year if our offense can put up at least 20 points a game.

    2. Finally we did not give up on the run. It was nice to see that we stuck to it even tho we struggled to make holes throughout the game.

    3. I wouldn't put to much thought into how the offensive line played yesterday. Stanley was getting manhandled by Harrison all day but this is a Rookie who has not played in a month. He was playing at a high level the first 3 weeks, so i expected him to struggle coming off injury. The offensive line as a whole will improve esp with Stanley and Yanda back.

    4. Flacco unfortunately is holding this team back. At first i gave him the benefit of the doubt by blaming the offensive line but even with time he was making bad plays. The illegal shift penalty that waived off Aiken's first down catch was all on Flacco.

    5. What about those ROOKIES!!! Im so happy with this years draft class. Young is slowly becoming a solid CB next to Smith. Judon, Pierce, Stanley, Moore, are all good players in the making. They all have bright futures.

I think you are right on Jacket. The only thing might be spending on Ravens gear and things in stadium, but while in my estimation that would be a non-trivial revenue stream, it would hardly account for the majority of revenue for games.

Plus there is this, 80% of ticket sales are split with other owners, the luxury box ticket sales are kept for the team. This is the high source of profit for the owner and why everyone wants a new stadium with as many luxury box seats as possible so they can maximize their own profit relative to the general seating profit (which gets split out and shared).

Correct. Merchandise sales in-stadium would be the only major profit differential, and my guess (could be wrong) is that most Ravens fans would purchase merchandise online or find a much cheaper avenue than buying in-stadium, which is probably the costliest way to purchase merchandise.

I could actually see that concession sales may actually increase when more road fans are in the stadium, depending on the travel length. Perhaps not for a Redskins or Eagles game, but a WC team coming east with a lot of visiting fans means they are likely staying in hotels in the area. That means likely no driving/commuting a long distance, thus possibly increasing the likelihood of excessive alcohol purchases.

You're arguments are usually valid but this one is just wrong. As a Raven fan who attends games all the time from Toronto i always end up buying items from the stadium. You have to consider all the Raven fans that are coming from other states or countries as well that are eager to get official Raven gear.

As to your second point, im sure it goes both ways. Even Raven fans that live in the city usually don't drive to the game. Ive witnessed MANY fans walking or taking the train to the game.

Just look at it this way. Say there's 50,000 Raven fans in attendance on a good day. lets just say out of the 50,000 that 2% of those people buy merchandise at the stadium. Also lets just say they spend roughly $150 a person. That's $150,000 in sales right there. That might not be a lot compared to the revenue of ticket sales, but its def something.

Sad to say but it would make more sense to let Williams go than to handicap ourselves again. We have Jernigan who has been arguably been better than Williams this year. Also the emergence of pierce could make this decision easier. If we see Peirce get more playing time down the stretch that would lead me to believe that Williams will be gone.

We need a lot more piece in the defense than just a NT. At the same time if Williams isnt as money hungry as the past FA i would love to keep him. I see us unloading several of our Vets this summer like Webb and Doom to make an effort to keep Williams. But there will always be other teams that have deep pockets, which sucks

    Already talking free agency..

Why wouldn't we be talking about free agency?? Teams around the league are already trading players away. Its that time of year my friend.

  10. The division winner will be the only team making the playoffs this year from the AFC North. Do you think this Ravens team is capable of winning 10 games?
    I see 8-8 at best.

9 games could win the division this year. esp if we can win our division games. There's a long road ahead of us but it is possible. We have 4 of the next 5 games at home, for us to have any chance we need to go 4-1 in the next 5 games. i still have hope unfortunately lol

The Ravens need to beat the Jets, Dolphins, and Browns to get to 6 wins. After that, in our conference every game is going to be a struggle since we play the Bengals and Steelers twice. I don't see us coming within 21 points of the Patriots. The Cowboys' running game will provide a challenge. At the beginning of the season, I thought that we would end up at 8 and 8, but 6 or 7 wins is a more realistic goal seeing how we can't stop anyone in the 4th quarter.  I don't think that the Ravens will ever play for a high draft pick.

Hmmm, the Bungles are in total confusion & chaos, Burfect seems to have gone completely crazy and word is that Marvin Lewis is losing his lockeroom. The Squeelers are without Big Ben (and have a pretty porus defense that scares no one), not to mention that we were terrible last year and swept them. We have ALWAYS played the Pats close and are one of the few teams that Belicheck & Brady actually sweats over. Dallas has NEVER beaten us, even when they've fielded good teams and we've put out scrub players, not to mention that we have the #1 run defense in the NFL, so I hope they would try to run at us...

Yet all I seem to hear from local and national media, plus supposed fan's, is that this schedule is just to brutal and that the Raven's may as well start tanking to try to get a higher draft pick...and I laugh at every single one of you and only ask that when this team doesn't give up and keeps on fighting to win games that you please stay off our bandwagon and go root for some team like the Eagles or Deadskins, they'd be happy to accept wanna-be doom-saying cry-babies...

i totally agree. There seems to be a lot of bandwagon fans lately. This team is very capable of winning every game on the schedule. We just need to win this game and get healthy. Two division games at home after the bye will be key. I haven't given up, there's still 10 games left in the season folks!

I don't see why so many people think we will lose to the raiders at home.I don't see that as a game we should lose at all.

Totally agree with you. We should have beaten them last year until the refs stole the game from us. OAK doesnt have a great track record playing games in the east at 1PM either.

Also im going to this game so they cant lose! lol

  13. I don't understand the need for someone like Devin Hester. Seriously tho, the league is trying to phase out kick returns and CAMP is a more than capable punt returner. If we sign Hester that means we have to drop another player off our 53 man roster. I would leave a spot for Peirce because we know that Brandon Williams will be a free agent next year and maybe we found a diamond in the rough in pierce. I like what i see from him.

  14. My one take away from this preseason. We reached on Correa and he seems to be struggling. i watched him last night miss tackles, get lost in coverage and he disappears when he rushes the passer. I really hope he pans out, but if he doesn't it will suck to know that Myles Jack and other good CBs were still available in the second round. Im rooting for him but it seems like he may take some time to develop.

  15. For those complaining about our secondary, please consider it was the first preseason game! We didnt have any of our starting DL playing that first series. With Williams, Jernigan, Suggs and Doom im sure there would have been more pressure on Cam and Tolbert would have not ran up the middle so easily for those first downs. SO JUST CALM DOWN FOLKS.

It was a good game. A couple players that stuck out last night to me. Young seemed to always be around the ball on special teams. Butler made some nice grabs to move the chains, he just needs to learn to catch with his hands and not his body. Im sooo excited for our front 7 this year, we have power, speed and just nastiness all over the line. I think we will cause some havoc to opposing QBs all year if we can stay healthy.
