  1. Translated: Our #2 and #3 picks from last year CAN'T PLAY. "The Ravens head into the off season viewing Correa as a limited rusher and Kaufusi needing to build up his lower body". Hope these roster fillers drafted #2 and #3 can run down the field on special teams and make a tackle every now and then. Once again OZ outsmarted the other teams by passing on Spence and Jack.

By passing on Spence and Jack we ended up getting Judon and Moore with the picks we obtained by moving down in the second round. I would wait another year before criticising the FO. We could all be praising them next year.

And how on earth can you say Elam is the only miss?????

Elam-obvious miss, directly cost us a chance at a ring with his inability to tackle
KC- early yes, but a lot of us think he looks like our next Arthur Brown. Or maybe he'll be good enough to play special teams eventually
Maxx Williams was a second rounder we traded up for- ZERO production
    Brooks- ZERO production and cut
    Carl Davis-ZERO production
    Jah Reid- ZERO production
Ed Dickson- caught a couple passes but had awful hands and not much production at all
Perriman- still early but never should've been picked in the first. I got in trouble at woodstocks when they picked him cuz I spit Beer on the TV in disbelief- on accident.
Arthur Brown- Zero production after what, 4 years? think we traded up for him too
Upshaw- you're telling me we spent a high second on someone hoping that all he could do is be a situational run stopper, I dont think so
    Cody- bust
Kindle-bust, albeit through injury I believe, the stair accident I think

How is Elam the only miss on that list?

Elam is the only one as a first rounder. Therefore, there are higher expectations. 2nd rounders have less expectations and 3rd rounders less.

The only ''busts'' I see in your list are Elam (2013 1st rounder), Brown (2013 2nd rounder), Cody (2010 2nd rounder), Kindle (2010 2nd rounder)

Brooks (2015 3rd rounder). The rest it is too early.

2013 was a bad draft class, go look at it. You obviously have not.

2013 wasnt bad, it just sucks that we missed on our two top picks. If you look at that draft overall it was decent. We got one of the best NT in the league in the 3rd. A pro bowl Full back and an above average RT in Wagner. Also i think we gave up on John Simon to early, hes been playing well in Houston and Jenson has been a capable back up. So no it was not a bad draft class. If williams, wagner and juice were are first 3 picks then you would not being saying that.

rmcjacker23 is going off base salary. He doesn't understand that fFacco has huge signing bonuses lol. He can drop his $6M to $1M this year and still make a ton of money.

lol, no, I'm not the one that doesn't understand. You are the one that doesn't understand. Allow me to explain to you how bonuses work...

A signing bonus, by definition, is what it is... its called a SIGNING bonus. Its paid WHEN YOU SIGN. That's why its called a SIGNING bonus.

Joe's SIGNING bonus was last season, and it was $40M. At the time I originally posted this, I assumed that the entire signing bonus was paid at that time, because it normally was (much in the way his $29M signing bonus from his original deal was paid all at once). Since then, through research (which is clearly not something you did), it appears that Joe deferred a portion of his signing bonus to 2017... $15M to be exact.

The below website, of which there are several similar one's, give a breakdown of his CASH earnings compared to his CAP earnings, which for like the 100th time on these boards, are NOT identical.

And what's laughable is that you think its OK for Joe to just slash his salary down to $1M (which I believe would actually be below the veteran minimum, so he couldn't do that anyway) as if the guy is only giving veteran minimum production. That is laughable of course.

In particular, I find it laughable when fans always ask pro athletes to take paycuts that, of course, no fan would ever actually do themselves. I would love to hear when a fan comes and says "hey guys, I slashed my salary by 50% today, so other employees I work with can make more". I'm still waiting on that to happen, but I won't, because it won't happen.

Always fun to listen to people give advice to more valuable people about what they should do with their money. Ain't spending or giving away other people's money great?

    What a joke.

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/joe-flacco-4000/cash-earnings/

I don't know if it would be that outlandish to expect a particular employee making 15-20% of the total salary allocation to take a pay cut so the other 52 employees can share some of the money that guy eating up 15-20% of that entire pie gives up some. obviously it is a stupid analogy because a 50K guy needs 60K for survival, but a 20M guy doesn't need 20M for survival...

But, importantly we cannot expect anybody that's negotiated a contracted salary to take a pay cut because they haven't performed commensurate with their remuneration. That should've been thought of prior to the contract. Having said all that, if Joe really wants the Ravens to put together a strong team around him, it wouldn't be ridiculous if he did offer to be accomodating with his salary structure or even giving up some money to hire a veteran guard or Center.

But, if truth be told, even if Joe wanted to do it, Linta will not allow it.

This is all i was trying to say and then some people catch feelings on this thread and go on a rant. I just used saving $5M as an example lol.

    rmcjacket23 for GM 2018 folks!!!

Lets clear a few things up...

    1. His contract would actually be quite easy to trade, and MANY teams would love to trade for him. A team trading for him would have to pay him the following:

    2017: $6M
    2018: $12M
    2019: $18.5M
    2020: $20.25M
    2021: $24.25M

Needless to say, a TON of teams would die to get him locked into a deal like this for that period of time. IF the Ravens somehow decided to trade him, the issue wouldn't be lack of suitors or the contract. It would be finding quality compensation for us to get back, in the form of multiple top draft picks, which would be the barrier to such a trade.

    2. The obvious reasons why he WON'T be traded is because we have no interest in trading him due to it being incredibly hard to find somebody equal or better for several years, and the fact that trading him would increase his cap hit for 2017 up to $47.3M, which is more than 25% of the overall salary cap. So you'll be punting 2017 entirely, regardless of what you get back for him. Will need to cut many, many other players just to get under the salary cap at that point.

    Per the Sunpapers... cap hit of 24.55 M in '17, 24.75 M in '18, 26.5 M in '19.  Check your facts please.

rmcjacker23 is going off base salary. He doesn't understand that fFacco has huge signing bonuses lol. He can drop his $6M to $1M this year and still make a ton of money.

If Flacco cares to win again he will help the team by restructuring. He has made enough money over the years and he is one of the main reasons our team is struggling. If he can't see this then we really need to look at QBs in the draft. Light a fire under him.

Doom and Webb must go just for the money.

Flacco is due to make just $6M next season. So you want him to restructure for less than that?

Of course i do when he has a signing bonus of $13,800,000 and another option bonus of $4,750,000.

Just because his base is $6M it doesn't mean he cant restructure. He could hypothetically drop the base to $1M and save us $5M this year.

  6. Much respect to Harbaugh for sticking to his guns and not listening to all the internet GMs. At the end of the day like the article states even if he were to change coordinators he knew it was a make or break year. Why not stick to someone you know? Why not stick to something that has proven to work in the later half of the year? If it wasnt for our defense who gave up leads and big plays to the giants, Jets, Patriots and Steelers, then this season would have been totally different. If it wasnt for the Oline who couldnt give Joe time or make holes for the running back then the season would have been different.

Alot of ppl are blaming the OC for joes check downs. But in reality thats on Joe himself. He doesnt move in the pocket or roll out of the pocket. Its frustrating to watch some of these QBs in the league make plays with their feet and then you watch joe get flustered and throw for a 2 yeard check down. If the Oline gives Joe time this coming season we will see a drastic change. The weapons are there, all we need is for Joe to have time so our weapons have time to get separation.

AND PLEASE RUN TEH DAMN BALL!!!

  7. 1. Doom needs to be released - because of his cap space and age
    2. Webb must restructure or released
    3. I dont think we can retain Brandon Williams. I would not throw a lot of money at him. He takes up space really well but when was the last time you saw him rush the passer effectively. We have Pierce to fill his role.
    4. Pitta should be asked to restructure after all the loyalty this team showed him through his injuries. If he refuses then i think we keep him at the salary he is at. But i would ask anyways!
    5. Watson should be released unfortunately and Wright needs to go after june 1st since the dead money is cut in half by then.

We need to make a splash in free agency for either a top CB or top Pass rusher.

We have a solid group of guys. We are a CB, Pass rusher and OL player away from making the leap back into the playoffs. And even if we get the pieces, this team wont succeed unless the coaches change up their philosophy.

New England did the same thing the Bengals do when they play the Ravens, but they do it better. They played zone all night. It just amazes me that as long as Flacco's been in the league he still doesn't know the weakness in zone coverage's. He has options at the line and doesn't use them. What he said in his press conference after the game, "they thought the Patriots were going to run more man to man," let's me know all I needed to know about him. He never made any adjustments at the line, he just threw it to his check down all night long. Watching the Ravens offense was like watching paint dry. If you don't have Ed Reed or Ray Lewis on the other side protecting you, you can't rely on that defense to bail you out, especially against Tom Brady. I don't really care too much for Flacco but I'm really disappointed in his play and preparations for that game.

What option at the line was he supposed to use, exactly?  Since you seem to think you know more about running an offense than Flacco does, or than our offensive coaches do, I'm legitimately curious to hear your answer.  They were dropping 8 back into coverage all game, while we've got 3 or 4 guys running routes, and we don't even know which 8 guys are dropping back into coverage, because they were disguising that until after the snap, sending a random 3 guys to rush the passer each snap.  Wasn't Flacco doing the right thing by taking the checkdown when nobody else was open?  But our checkdown guys weren't doing very much with the football after they got it in their hands.  I also think people keep forgetting that this is a simplified offensive because there are so many inexperienced pieces and team chemistry is low due to so many new players who aren't familiar with the team/system (heh, as if you could call it that when we're on the 5th OC in 5 years, and the 2nd one this year), players who missed a lot of the off-season due to injuries (Perriman, SSR, Flacco), offensive line shuffles due to injuries, rookies, etc.  Even with simplified snap counts and minimal adjustments at the line, we still screw up the blocking scheme a lot where we get two guys blocking the same guy and nobody blocking the free pass rusher, and we get among the highest number of pre-snap penalties in the NFL.  The team isn't cohesive enough, coaching hasn't been consistent enough, and the number of inexperienced players and lack of team chemistry all lead to a dumbed down offense that's mistake prone.  I want to know what adjustment he was supposed to take to go against a weakness in their zone coverage.  Where/what was the weakness, specifically?

Maybe run the ball with a delayed hand off or some screen plays. Throwing the ball two yards behind the line of scrimmage wont get you anywhere. Also how could you blame the players for not making plays once they got the ball? They were literally surrounded after they caught the ball.

The Ravens lost to a good team again. I'm not jumping ship here like some fans but lets face it this team isn't great but they can hang with the big boys of the NFL this year. They will beat the Eagles who are a bad team and set themselves up for a street fight against the Steelers. We all know that anything can happen when the Ravens and Steelers get together. The season isn't over!

I don't get you people and your blind optimism. We were a horrible team last year, and to be honest we would have still been a bad team even with out the injuries. Furthermore, we are a bad team again this year. I wouldn't even want to go to the playoffs with this trash team. We'll only once again embarrass ourselves on National Television.

You should stop rooting for this team and jump ship lol If you honestly think our team is trash like the browns, bears or jags then you have lost your mind my friend.

  10. The squeelers looked good yesterday, but dont forget that they played the Bills. Also the horrible weather helped them since the fed Bell the ball. Bell would never have that success on us so im not worried. All we have to do is control what we can and that is winning 4 straight. This year will come down to the Christmas game which i feel confident about. LETS GO RAVENS!

Ravens Defense is solid, but am not sure if they can stop Brady and the Pats. Dallas, and Oakland were good examples. Hopefully we go there and bring back the W. GO RAVENS.

true but i believe if jimmy played in the dallas game we would have won.

Also we beat ourselves with penalties that game. And if you look at the oak game, if the coaches run the ball once or twice in the last 4 possessions, Tucker could have won that game for us.

I trust out Defense will keep us in this game against the pats. It will be on Joe and the Oline to perform like they did the past week.
