If Judon, Smith, and Correa are "Young Talent" why are we still looking to draft pass rushers. Judon showed flashes, Smith could not get on the field, and Correa made a tackle (I think) on Special Teams as our #2 pick. I always thought the "Young Talent" tag was for players who were actually playing and making plays.

I'm not sure but I think Correa's claim to fame last season was only counted as a half tackle. Ozzie just Has to start getting us some better talent in rounds 1,2 and 3. I love Stanley. Let me make that clear. But we haven't been getting Near the talent level we should be getting from our higher draft choices. Stop thinking too much, Ozzie, getting an extra fourth rounder by moving down the board so many times. Instead, stay put and draft better players. Those early rounds are supposed to be where you get your best prospects and guys that help your team get better. That has not been happening enough. Not Nearly enough. Honestly, just how many people had even heard of Correa and, even, Kaufusi before we drafted them? I can only hope that Kaufusi's lost season due to injury will get behind him and he will prove to have been a good choice. But when your biggest contributors tend to come from the 4th round, or later, it would seem that you are not drafting very well.

I think that's the type of thinking that gets the Ravens into trouble and results in their bad drafting as of late. Take the known BPA at #16. Quality over quantity. Ravens need difference makers. They are more likely to find one at #16 than later.

I think you may be on to something. There are players with first round grades in the top 50; an unusually solid draft particularly on defense. If the Ravens can get 3 picks in the first 50, that might be worth considering.
I just don't think we can afford the time to draft a "developmental" guy too high at edge, OL, or CB/FS. We just don't have the depth there.

Let's stay put with our Draft position picks. Maybe this year we will ACTUALLY draft players at #2 and #3 that can do more than be a fringe Special Teams player. Quick question. If Mel Kiper keeps giving the Ravens an A, A+, or A- in the Draft every year we are we so mediocre?

Coaching. But, in fairness, I must add that Mel Kiper doesn't know half what he thinks he does. For the most part, though, poor coaching.

I am worried about this coming season. We have so many holes to fill. We need another CB, an edge pass rusher, a good linebacker to replace Orr, a #1 WR (Perriman is not there yet), possibly a RT and Nose Tackle and backup QB, and IMHO a better Center. We don't have much cap space and I don't trust our drafting ability anymore. That leaves some plug and play with backups from last season that I was not impressed with. God forbid we have a lot of injuries because we do not have a lot of quality depth. Hopefully, we have players that make giant leaps when they are asked to step up, but I don't have faith in some of our coaching staff to get them there. Hoping Ozzie can work some of his 'Old Magic' and has a great draft, free agency, and maybe another decent trade or two, because IMHO we really need him to!!!!!

I think that this is a good post. I tend to agree with just about everything you said, cobra jet, and that's really a shame. A shame because I used to have SO much faith in Ozzie. But, I just can't say that anymore. And, sorry to also say, that I share your reservations about our coaching staff. And, unfortunately, for me that starts right at the top with our HC. I hope So much that I'm wrong on Both counts. I think that you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who has faith in our coach's ability to develop a wr. But, it's Ozzie on that too. I haven't seen any wrs that I can recall go elsewhere and wind up becoming successful. Mark Clayton just a little bit maybe. So, I see it as a drafting And developing problem. And that's just bringing up One position. It's discouraging to me because I used to be one of Ozzie's biggest supporters. Can't say the same about Harbaugh, as I think his early success was more a result of being fortunate enough to have received his first HC shot on Ray Lewis' team. I think that he deserves more of the credit for that ring than Harbaugh. That, and Joe's incredible playoff run, the best he's played in his entire career. Harbaugh's abilities, or lack thereof, have been exposed since Ray has retired. Unfortunately, I have had to suffer through watching our HC, with his terrible decisions, cost us numerous games. Man, do I hope I'm wrong about every bit of this. I would like nothing more than to eat crow after this season, and will do so happily if we are successful this season.

What i don't understand is why we let Josh Johnson go in preseason,he looked good even though it was preseason. Mallett...ugh...

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I read thought that a bunch of people were jumping on Josh Johnson's band wagon far too early, and much, and I couldn't figure out why. I do remember that he made that one drive and that it resulted in a win in exciting fashion. But, to me, his arm did not look all that strong and I felt much more confident having Mallet as our backup than I would have Johnson. We have yet to see him start anywhere else so, I guess, time will tell if we really did make a mistake, but I seriously doubt it.

I would like to have Ryan back. Of course, he would almost certainly prefer going somewhere where he, at least, has a shot at a starting job. And, yes, as usual, the Ravens have precious few dollars to spread around. But, I think that we would be far better off with Ryan than with a rookie that we will pick up in the later rounds. And, from what I've been hearing, and reading, there is not a lot of QB talent coming out from the college ranks this year.

Not really, his choice of words were perfectly fine. He never said for people to get over domestic violence, he said the hypocrisy that the team shows when deciding which players to sign based on their history with domestic violence. 

I agree that there, definitely, is hypocrisy occurring in the NFL. And, if the Ravens sign Brandon Marshall, our FO will absolutely be guilty of it. Ray Rice was a model player, and man, who was Extremely active and generous with his time and money to the community of Baltimore. In fact, he still is. I will not deny even for one instant, that he made an inexcusable, alcohol induced, simply Horrible mistake that night in that elevator. In fact, his now wife did as well. But, the hypocrisy came in when he was treated so much differently than so many other players in the NFL have been for DV infractions. And, Please believe me, I am Not even Hinting that DV is not an Extremely serious problem. But, Ray Rice was Condemned for his moment of horribleness, while others have always been just Convicted. There IS a difference. Ray has One offense. Brandon has several. I whole heartedly wish them continued success in their endeavors to never commit another offense of this deplorable kind. I just cannot bring myself to understand why Ray Rice, after One offense, paid the price that he did, which was the inability to ever play football again, while everybody else that I know of, even after Multiple offenses of the same variety have paid with only temporary suspensions. To me, that is most definitely hypocrisy.

I do think that Brandon Marshall could help us, But, the one Huge mistake I can remember Mr. Bisciotti, the best owner in sports, making was his pathetic handling of the Ray Rice situation. And, with that, along with his statements on the subject he has kind of boxed the Ravens into a corner. It would be tough to quantify adding Marshall after his Repeated DV issues. Yes, I believe that he has grown, and reformed, in this area. But so had Ray Rice, and Ray's absolutely Horrible mistake was, in fact, a Singular mistake. He, just like Brandon Marshall has done Recently, dealt with his huge mistake as well as he possibly could, and before that One terrible incident, he had been a model employee and contributed greatly to the Baltimore community. Mr. Bisciotti's handling of that truly unfortunate incident was really a fiasco and very much surprised me. I still believe that he is the best owner in all of sports, but nobody is perfect, and I really think that he messed up big time on that decision he made. If we do sign Marshall, it will be very interesting listening to the FO's, and owner's, explanation of why Marshall's turn around makes him acceptable, but Ray's did not.

We all know the "pick the best on the board rule" Ozzie has. And just how many games have we won the past 4-5 years with those players? Pick for our NEEDS. Select players that can replace the OLD and SLOW players we have been stuck with and that includes QB. Maybe its just time for Ozzie to go?

I don't think that it is, in fact, time for Ozzie to go. I do think, however, that he does need to somewhat abandon his BPA mindset at this point as a direct result of the fact that this team has deteriorated significantly in its talent level and the sheer number of different needs that it has. This team would benefit more, I think, by placing more emphasis on positions of need rather than on strict adherence to that BPA philosophy. I don't believe that Ozzie wanted Elliot over Stanley, as some on here have suggested, when he tried to trade with Dallas in the first round of last year's draft. I think that he was after Ramsey, not Elliot. Of course, both of them were gone when we picked, and the trade wasn't made, so we'll never know, but I am More than pleased with our choice of Stanley. Getting our starting LT on a five year rookie contract is awesome, and quite an accomplishment. But, this year, the draft is loaded with potentially quality CBs so, again, because of our numerous needs, if a very high quality player at a different position of need is there for us, I would like to see Ozzie try to concentrate on filling as many players as he can that play one of the many positions we have a need to upgrade. The last thing I would want is to see him draft a player, who plays a position that we simply don't have a need for, just because he happens to be the BPA at that moment in the draft. If we were only a player or two away from being a serious Super Bowl contender, maybe we might have the luxury of sticking to that BPA line of thinking, but I just do not believe that the Ravens are only a player or two away. We have more needs to address than just a player or two. We need to, more than ever, concentrate on our positions of need. The Only exception to this would be if the BPA happens to Not be a position of need but he is truly leaps and bounds better than the BPA of a needed position. But, I mean a Huge, huge difference of talent between the two players in question. Just one fan's opinion.

Watching that press conference really put me in my place, and reminded me that Steve Biscotti is a Much smarter man than I am. And, he seems to be able to control his emotions better than I can as well, although I've never seen his reactions while watching our games or immediately thereafter. It, also, reminded me something else I already knew. Mr. Bisciotti is the best owner in sports and we are Very blessed to have him. I say all this because I am not a John Harbaugh fan and admit that I did not want to see him retained. It's nothing personal. It's strictly football and there are simply too many reasons I think this way to go into it here. And, I do believe that next season should decide Harbaugh's fate as our HC going forward. But, Mr. Bisciotti did not become as successful as he has by making quick, and emotional decisions and I am truly glad about that. That's not to say that my opinion of Harbs as a HC is based on quick, emotional reasons. It is not. But, I will, Absolutely, trust Mr. Bisciotti's decisions and will genuinely hope that I am wrong about Harbs and that we have a great season next year. Yep, I wanted Harbaugh, and both his OC and DC gone. But, like I said, Steve Biscotti is Much smarter than I am. Thank you, Mr. Bisciotti, for being the owner of our team and for loving it every bit, if not more, than we do.

Will, and Should Harbaugh be on the Hot Seat next season? I realize that some people might have two different answers to that question. I'm just curious to see what the majority of the Ravens fans think. Should next year determine Harbaugh's fate?

There were many reasons, of course, but #1...John Harbaugh. He has so many deficiencies as a HC that they're too numerous to list. But, I'll just sum it up by saying that his boneheaded decisions cost us several wins this year. That just doesn't happen when you have a good HC. His bad decisions have only continued even After the season as we now know that both our inept OC and DC will be coming back along with John next year. Obviously, what I would have done about it is to fire him and find a better HC. Harbaugh's early success is Not due to his abilities as a HC. He just rode the coattails of Ray Lewis. Now that Ray's gone, Harbs is showing just how lacking his skills as a HC are. Just one fan's opinion.

Well, things are a whole lot different now, since I didn't look at this until After the whole season. I didn't like either the 2nd Or 3rd  pick. Of course, Kafusi gets a pass since he was injured, but not the same for Correa. Let's be honest, how many of us had even heard of both of these guys? I agree with the poster that said your 2nd rounder should play, if not start. Especially a high 2nd rounder, although I do realize that Ozzie traded back yet again. Correa hardly touched the field the whole season. With the extremely unfortunate retiring of Orr, maybe Correa will have a better shot next year, but I don't see him taking that starting job. I'll be surprised if he winds up being even a quality backup. Ozzie just Has to start hitting on our top draft choices. Of course, I do love Stanley. But, the 6th pick, of course we All should.

Was hoping that Tucker and Prater would have a kicking contest during halftime starting at the 50 yardline and moving back after each successful kick, I feel Tucker would have the upper hand and win this contest, Tucker can win a lot of football game just by using his leg if we can get a QB to get the Ravens within 45 yards of the goalpost every series

Yeah, you're right. But only if we have a defense that can stop our opponent's drives.

No doubt about it. Every fan including myself would have lost it had they let Joe walk in 2013. Yes, Houston's FO does look, and actually Was, foolish for signing and paying Osweiler what it did. And, yes, hindsight Is 20/20. But, let's get real here. The situations were much, much different. Joe had an excellent history of getting us to the playoffs, being successful once getting there, and had just completed an historic playoff run capping it off with a Super Bowl win and SB MVP performance. Osweiler had started 8 games, Total, the year before Houston gave him that ridiculous amount of money. Ozzie did the right thing and Joe is taking an awful lot of undeserved criticism of late. Of course, that's just my own opinion, that's all.

I think everyone is a little off base where Joe Flacco is concerned. The problem is with the term "elite". We, as Ravens fans, need to drop the term completely from our vocabulary. He's not elite. Neither are the QB's for most NFL teams. What we need to consider; where Joe ranks in terms of current QB's in the league, compare his career path, and weigh the pros and cons.
-Joe Flacco is the only QB in the AFC to start (and win) in a Superbowl in the
last 14 years that wasn't either Tom Brady, Big Ben or Peyton Manning. Considering Peyton did it with 2 teams, that leaves 11 AFC teams that haven't hoisted the Lombardi trophy in that span. Oddly enough, the last AFC team to do it prior to Brady, Ben and Manning was...the Ravens...in 2001. Get this; you have to go back to 1984 to find an AFC team that won the Superbowl that wasn't the Patriots, Steelers, Broncos, Colts or Ravens. 32 freaking years since the LA Raiders won!!! Joe Flacco has a proven record in the playoffs. He also managed a crucial drive this year, in Pittsburgh, that realistically should have won the game (and possibly division) if the defense had not Crap the bed.
-With Peyton Manning retired, Big Ben considering retirement (and honestly, Flacco is kind of owning Big Ben recently), that leaves Tom Brady as the QB to beat in the AFC. And Joe has beaten Brady twice in the playoffs IN Foxboro. We have owned the Steelers recently (6 of 9 since 2013 with a playoff win in there). With the rag-tag crew of receivers we had this year, he beat Ben once, was within a score of Brady, and lost to Ben by an outstretched arm. To me, you can't put a price tag on composure, which Flacco has against these guys. If Tom Brady were to win this year, and then retire along with Big Ben, who would be the Ravens main competition in the AFC?
-Ravens fans are used to making the playoffs, and we've gotten spoiled. How consistent is Dalton in the Playoffs? The Texans? The Chiefs? Not a whole lot of winning in that group. Flacco has had an inconsistent support system around him, and the carousel of OC's has got to stop for him to develop into the passer he has the potential to be. I think what a lot of fans fail to realize, is that Joe has put our team in the position to win a lot of games, and our defense has let us down. Granted, more consistent play from Joe could potentially negate our less-than-stellar secondary, but if your QB scores a go-ahead TD with less than a couple minutes to play...and you can't stop their team from scoring...that's hardly the QB's fault.

You can argue all you want that Joe makes too much money, that he's not consistent enough, etc. But when it comes down to brass tacks, there's only a handful of consistent QB's in the league, and an even smaller class of QB's that are consistent when it matters...in the playoffs. Given the option, there's only 4 or 5 QB's in the league I'd consider over Flacco. Brady, Rodgers, Brees and (possibly) Derek Carr or Matt Ryan. Other than that, every team is struggling with inconsistency at QB...and have no hardware to show for it. Andrew Luck? Andy Dalton? Ryan Tannehill? Tyrod Taylor? Come on guys, our position is a lot more solid than 80 to 90% of the league. We are a couple key guys away from being back on top while it looks like the Bengals unraveled this year, and it looks like the Steelers are headed that way.

Take a deep breath my friends. The AFC north is ripe for the taking, and we are poised to be that team. Peace.

I think that this is one of the best, and accurate, posts that I've read in a long while. We all love our Ravens and can get upset and emotional at times during games. What we need to remember is that there are NO Perfect QBs in the NFL. I think that we have a pretty good one and I can easily remember what it was like when we didn't, before we drafted Flacco. It sure wasn't fun. Joe really Has directed a lot of late drives that should have produced wins but, unfortunately, all too often our defense could not stop our opponents offense and it frittered those potential wins away. Our team has a lot of problems that need fixed before we will be consistent winners again, but our QB is not one of them. While I do believe that we are a bit more than just a couple key guys away from being back on top, as this poster thinks, I completely agree with him/her ?? that we do Not need a different QB to get there. Joe has already showed us what he is capable of doing when he has the proper pieces surrounding him. Actually, I am far more concerned about our current coaching staff than I am our QB. Joe just does NOT have the team around him right now to repeat what he did in 2012. That is Not his fault.

When exactly were there opportunities for guys like Watson, Boyle, Gillmore and even Maxx to catch the football? One guy spent 10 games suspended, one guy never played a regular season snap due to injury, and the other two spent over half the season injured or on IR. 

How exactly can you trust somebody who's not even available to play?

In the end, you're right, we don't have any idea what a new core of TEs could do without Pitta. And I for one am not interested in finding out at the moment either. They could flourish, or they could completely bottom out. And when they bottom out, the hypocritical fans will come out in droves and shred Ozzie for not addressing the position or upgrading it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of being just a fan. You get all the perks of hindsight with zero of the risks.

I don't think that the players give a hoot about struggling with new teams. The only thing they care anything at all about is the money. Players today just follow the money. No team loyalty. No better chance to win a ring. Just chasing the money.

If Ray does decide to accept a coaching position it should, without a doubt, be with the Ravens. I've read on here countless times that Harbaugh would not want him on his staff, and I actually agree with that line of thinking. Then get rid of Harbaugh. I mean that. Either that, or this would be the one time that Biscotti should go against his normal philosophy of staying "hands off" and letting his coach make all those type decisions. There is nothing wrong with giving your HC an ultimatum. Biscotti owns this team and there would be nothing wrong with him telling Harbs that he wants this guy to work for him, that he wants him on his team, that he wants to hire him. Deal with it Harbs. If Biscotti thinks that Ray would make an excellent coach, as I do, then he should want him working for him. He was right when he wanted Ozzie to move up in the draft for Matt Ryan, but he let Ozzie persuade him that Flacco was our guy. Ozzie HATES to give up draft choices. We all know that. I think that played into his decision to settle for Flacco instead of going after the best QB coming out that year. But, to see Ray coaching for Any other team in the NFL would be awful and, even, painful. I've read on here that Ray would not have enough patience with players that couldn't be as good as he was. Well, I don't think so. Even Ray realizes that there will be very, very, Very few that Ever do, if Any would. Give him his chance here where he should Always belong. Ray is the Ultimate Raven. I do NOT want to see him with Any other team.

I am SO thankful to the Lord for watching over Zachary Orr all the years he has played football. As he said, he saw, for himself, what could have happened to him when he saw his high school teammate be paralyzed on the field. I'm glad that Zach realizes just how blessed he's been. Thank you So much, Jesus! I really hope that the Ravens organization offers him some kind of an opportunity in another capacity. This former UFA, who worked so hard to be all that he could be, certainly deserves that. I wish you the very best life possible, Zach. And, once again, Praise the Lord that his condition was discovered when it was.

How can you not respect the man?

With the way we are playing on offense and defending a rare lead near end of games, coupled with unimaginative coaching and drafting, we are staring at Mr. Doom (not Elvis, the other one)! I think we need 'TALENT' on this team.

Talent on the coaching staff with young, creative minds coordinating both our offense and defense and a HC that is also an Xs and Os kind of coach. Motivation can only take a team so far. Belichick is a classic example of a grumpy man who doesn't care about overt motivation (like John does) but focuses instead on the opponents' weaknesses and puts together a game plan (exploiting even limited talent he may have) to defeat the opponent. That is the kind of coaching temperament we need. Harbaugh doesn't bring it for no fault of his. He's simply not that type of coach.

As for player talent, we're severely lacking in that department as well. Okay, so the Patriots may not be talented across the roster as well you may say. But, then they have a cerebral, angry and motivated QB who'll whip them into shape or else... we don't because Flacco seems to believe that all his fellow offensive players are old enough to understand because they're professionals and paid like him too (very logical thinking but...). It's not going to cut it in this uber competitive NFL. So things must change in that we need to amass playing talent at every level of the offense for us to even think of challenging to be SB champions year in and year out.

Finally, the front office is stuck in the rut of mediocrity for too long. I cannot fathom the reasons for this slide. But my guess is the answer lies in these 3 scenarios. A) Ozzie has lost his magic as has Eric DeCosta and Horitz (unlikely).
B) Harbaugh is too involved like is rumored (insists on taking players with high moral character and special teams participation over pure talent and ability - very likely cause). C) We have lost too much scouting talent to poaching by other NFL teams (likely). Or it could be some combination of all three. Unless we figure out which of these reason is the cause for our mediocre to less than mediocre drafts lately, we are facing Mr. Doom all over again.

This year they went 14 - 2. 5 - 1 in their division and 9 - 1 against non divisional opponents. Patriots usually win 13 to 14 games year in year out, so that should put that argument to rest.

I have to tell you that I never root for the patriots. I will root for any other team playing the patriots any day and twice on Sundays, but you have to agree that they are the most focused, most serious, most over achieving team in recent memory. What worries me with your line of thinking is, it's that same line of thinking that makes excuses for Flacco, and Ozzie. My dad would say to me when I brought a bad grade home "that kid that excelled in the test does not have 2 brains"
It sounds like we are giving the Ravens an excuse for not being as great as the Patriots. You can see that winning just seems to mean a little more to Brady than Flacco, or Belichick than Harbaugh or their front office than ours. We won't come out and say that, but what we put in, be it the QB, or the coach who gets out-slicked by their coach. Just how many times have you seen our team try a flee - flicker? Or our QB quicken the snap count to catch that defender before he runs out if the field, or before the entire defense is set? I mean there are multiple examples of one team using every thing within their power to win, while the other doesn't.

You make some very good points that seem hard, in my opinion, to disagree with. The Cheatriots overall record each year really does dispel the idea that the fact that they play in a weak division is the reason they make the playoffs Every year. And the greater desire to win on the part of Brady vs Flacco, and Belicheater vs Harbaugh is, sadly, valid, legitimate, and unfortunate for us loyal Ravens fans. I think that we deserve better. I have seen way too much smiling, laughing, and acceptance after bad plays, mistakes, and losses from certain Ravens players. I have NEVER seen those kinds of reactions from Any Cheatriot players. All I know is that when I played ball I hated losing even more than I loved winning, so I guarantee you that you would Never have seen me act like that after a bad play, mistake, or worse, a loss. And I think that is a good indication of just how important winning is to players.
