  1. Perhaps out of game context but in the single win thus far Joe passed 33 times. In three losses he threw 126 times. In wins they ran 39 times this year. In losses they totaled 66 rushes.
  2. If u have a franchise qb whom the head coach believes in and calls him elite then this situation never should have happened. U keep going to the well it's gonna be dry. I see the expression on Joe and it says - where's my A.Brown? AJ Greene?
  3. The Ravens need help from their own staff. Of expected starters this season on the Bengals 19 of 22 were draft picks. Now it's true that they had higher picks and it's also true some of the big players are getting wear on their tires but even among them most are no earlier than '09. But the process of a franchise winning record and success in the playoffs includes the downside. Once you're on top it's harder to maintain the same level of success. In the Ravens case some have mentioned they let go of guys because of the cap. Those are decisions made for business purposes and beyond the scope of what a fan has to say. Nevertheless there are teams that have had continued success. Right now I see the Ravens on the cusp of success based on close losses despite glaring deficiencies. Nobody ever said rebuilding would be easy. It's extremely hard to find the players u want to plug and play and expect championship results. Patience.
  4. Givens was picked in the '12 draft two spots before Gino Gradkowski. In the third round of the same draft the Ravens picked up Bernard Pierce. Indianapolis picked up T.Y. Hilton eight spots later. Who knows? Maybe Givens will thrive in Baltimore having been the target of only one ball this season. Of course the Rams traded Philly for Foles in a trade where both teams felt things couldn't get worse but they did. Drafting players has more to do with a franchises direction than BPA ever could. Of course u could say no one saw the value of Hilton except a team with Luck.
  5. I think Joe will need to connect for two TD's. I hope he throws both into the EZ from the red zone just so I can see his bullet arm slice and dice the Steelers. The RBs will score one TD. Justin two three pointers. Anyway 27-24.Good luck.
  6. About those PFF grades: Jimmy Smith grades out as the number 8 corner? Amari Cooper and AJ didn't get the memo. Jimmy is also the number four most targeted corner with a minus 1.5 coverage. Too bad they didn't give Ronald Darby a look or reconsider Marcus Peters. Both had positive grades while being even more highly targeted. Needless to say the team effort and the opponent play a role in the overall grade. Then there's Pernell McPhee on the PFF at number seven among edge defenders, Boldin number 7 among WRs. Fortunately Ben ranks second and we'll miss him. https://www.profootballfocus.com/
  7. Ravens r more than a little lucky to go up against Vick instead of Rothlisberger. But more impressive than the Steeler offense are the young players on defense. While the Ravens have outstanding Brandon Williams and high expectations for Jerrnigan and Davis the Steelers quietly amassed a ton, literally perhaps of defenders including Shazier (15 tackles etc against 49rs) who will miss the Thursday night game, Tuitt, Dupree and old man, Hayward, all of twenty six. It's impressive how they've reloaded instead of going after short term aging players. If Joe is able to find his receivers and hopefully the OL can reopen those hitherto closed seams in the defense Justin can have a good day. I hope Joe doesn't feel the pressure of having to show his "leadership chops" as Garrett described it the other day. The video wasn't really impressive. Just keep the ball in purple jersey control Joe and forget the heroics.
  8. Four Ravens received best player by position performance in week three from PFF: Brandon, Marshall, Steve and Elvis. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/09/28/best-players-at-every-position-for-week-3/
  9. Opposing DC: stuff the run, double down on number 89. And their QB coach: don't panic under pressure and throw it into the flat for a pick six. Throw it away to live another day.
  10. For all the Cincy play makers and the obvious holes in the Ravens lineup they almost pulled off a win. Whether they're a play maker away from a win, in need of a faster more sure handed receiver, a shiftier back, a more agile and stout lineman or a cagey corner or safety is immaterial. The only thing they can control now is how they play as a unit.
  11. I wonder how the Steelers are able to get Bryant (4th round), A. Brown (6th round), Bell (rd 2). Cincy fifth round M. Jones, Bernard and Hill second round. Both teams went after some linemen like Zeitler, Pouncey, DeCastro and linebackers like Shazier and Jones who are starting to pay dividends. Off hand the Ravens got CJ, Gilmore and a slowly deteriorating Wagner and KO. I don't know. Sure these observations are not a hundred percent right but it's the perception of the changing of the guard.
  12. PFF says passer rating against Will Hill is second lowest in the NFL. Jimmy is ranked based on tackles around the middle right now. But I'm just guessing there's no faith in the remainder of the secondary to play up close and personal. You saw how Cooper carried guys after contact. That man is a different specimen of player.
  13. The running game reminds me of a few years back when they ran their ever predictable run play. They're doing it again when they run Justin to the right side with no hole. One of the NFL media shows on ESPN showed his successful run for a first down when it was third and fifteen. He ran left. Those are better plays because they're pulling the line right and Justin can get through a hole and make someone miss. As for Joe it's difficult to say but without protection he becomes just another QB when under pressure. Obviously not every time but the INT in the Broncos game was also highlighted in the same show. He's practically going down and looks right and spots his man and chucks one into Talib's arms. Manning has that rep too. Of course watching a few seconds of the Brady Show and he's throwing to Gronk and there is no one near either Brady or Gronk. Just saying there's something going on in the NFL that I don't trust.
  14. There's another game and a win at home and a victory in Pitt and suddenly they're in the pack. I don't predict a win against a hot Bengals team, but I do know Harbaugh will have his team running on nitrous and a supercharger this weekend. He'll sit down with his OC and DC and get things hammered out. John doesn't like losing and he's not averse to changing up his coaching staff on the fly if he has to.
  15. It seems for the last few years at least Joe has been hamstrung by the one thing everyone agrees he excels at: his canon arm. I recall great sideline over the shoulder passes even before the SB MVP. Most of those have disappeared despite Marlon's proven ability to grab them. I don't expect the Ravens to dream up plays that allow him to throw across his body on the run the way Aaron Rodgers does. Rodgers also has some superlative receivers to make him look good. But the whole game plan for the Ravens seems to center on Joe's long bomb. Similarly Ben's game plan allows him to scramble. The point is Trestman needs to expand the possibilities for Joe to become the guy who can carry his team on Sunday under adverse game conditions. You can be a believer in defenses win championships, running games open the aerial attack and also expand Joe's role.
  16. It looked like Del Rio was engaged in the game. He looked like a leader. Harbs looked like the proverbial "hair on fire" guy. Leadership flows from the top down. You hear about their record under Harbs. I hear about Suggs, Ed and Ray. Haloti is gone. Those days are gone. Now we'll see how it is to coach. There's certainly enough talent but maybe the FO has missed out on replenishing positions before it's too late. A home win against the Bengals as far out as that seems can change the season. Redemption time.
  17. Just saw Rodgers fling ball on the run 30 yards into the EZ. Joe on the other hand tries these low percentage passes that are supposed to be catchable only by his man, but as we have seen they are not always on target and too often easily defensed. Carr threw his winning pass into the EZ on a bee line. As for the dump offs? I'd almost rather see a better play drawn up that didn't work out and Joe just has to chuck it out of bounds. I don't think the defense failed to live up to their rep on account of the loss of Suggs.
  18. They have enough arrows in their quiver to win. Perriman is not the be all and end all for Joe or the Ravens. It's too early to be thinking upgrades, but that Ole Miss DE Robert Nkemdiche is someone to keep an eye on. Three hundred pounds and he moves like Mosley.
  19. I see them going on a winning streak and by the time the 49rs game is here Breshad will be at practice and soon on the field.
  20. According to BaltimoreBeatdown Lorenzo suffered a minor knee sprain or MCL. According to various orthopedic sites including http://www.rushortho.com/answer_md.cfm?quid=59a mild sprain doesn't require surgery and recovery is 2-4 weeks. Not nearly as serious as a torn PCL which Breshad suffered.
  21. My question is I've seen Rodgers rifle the ball to Nelson, but Joe rarely has that play in his book. Marlon is good on the over the shoulder sideline pass. Why not more of those? Which brings up the level of success of the EZ attempts. When I see highlights of Bryant in the EZ it's usually one on one. Not three on one. And Smith had the unenviable position of being a few feet below the line of sight with a hand in his face. Highly predictable outcomes. Where's the play with a move that throws the safety or corner in the wrong direction? I'll take Wagner and Yanda anytime. Not so sure about KO and Monroe against the best. Blame the injuries but they're not at the same level.
  22. Got to start seeing the positive and introducing the future.
  23. Part of Sugg's job was to contain the QB's blocker and force him into the QB's space so a guy like CJ could get the sack. It's a team drill.
  24. So the Ravens waited until Torrey's contract was up and brought in a speed merchant whose future will have to generate returns because without him the Ravens apparently have no backup plan. Listened coincidentally to the same story line being discussed by Doc on 980 only about the loss of Jackson yesterday. Another sports announcer suggested Pierre Garcon can "run like the wind".Why didn't they try him? No rebuttals were in order. Anyway to not even try SSS or anyone else beyond 25 yards while your franchise QB is under siege makes no sense. Beating up on the lower tier teams last year is not available this year. It occurs to me that the problem lies not with their stars (literally the players) but with the coaches including everyone.
  25. The secodary was outstanding. Sure they got help up front but every secondary does. But why did they wait until the second half to adjust? Why weren't they playing up close on the line against Broncos receivers to begin with? Is this some sort of coaching chess match? The coaches have the brunt of the blame because the team looked good for the most part. From a fans perspective I thought a lot of the blame was on Joe. Listening to the post game wrap up the announcer gave me the impression that the last play of the third quarter which Talib ran back for a pick six was on Joe. It's not the first time Joe has done this but he's not alone. Jimmy's interception was because Jimmy was spot on.But Joe's was a hasty judgement. Just sayin' it all isn't on Steve. Though Gronk would have had that one and perhaps the one Crockett couldn't handle. Overall the team looked better than expected and they will improve.
