Hester is a perfect fit if you consider kickoffs are an obsolete part of the game and he will be returning few and far between and mostly be part of a touchback. Also, he didn't have as good a punt return average as the 5 people who collectively returned punts for the Ravens last year. Hester had 34 yds on 8 returns, Camp had 49 yds on 3 attempts. We won't take a chance with Camp because of injuries so we get a guy who has been dealing with injuries. Hester was ranked 52nd in the league in punt returns.

As far as Butler goes, it's a catch-22, you say he didn't make another teams 53 so he must not have been that good, yet the other teams wonder after his performance why didn't he make the Ravens 53 so they put him on a practice squad to see for themselves. Has nothing to do with the talent that we all obviously saw. We cut him to make room for Hester who will amount to nothing, so much so that I will bet that Butler gets activated to the 53 of the Bucs and has more catches for more yards than Hester does. We were told we don't just put a returner on the roster, he has to be a receiver also. Let's see if Hester can produce as a receiver, we know Butler can.

The Ravens are taking chances, trading comp picks for free agents (which we never do), gambling with our starting running back for Matt Elam (of all people), dropping quality players for old has beens. This doesn't sound like the premier front office who thinks long term. I think some jobs are on the line after a 5 - 11 season and it looks to me like some decisions are being made by people who are running scared, and that's never a good thing.

I agree with you on Hester signing. I said on here 2 weeks ago that it would be a good move and got blasted for it. I recall someone saying there was not even 1 good reason for signing him. We really had no choice unless we just let Webb fair catch every punt. This was a pretty good signing and IMO it will pay off big time.

I'm not too worried about Steve Smith and Perriman potentially missing the next pre-season game. We all know what Flacco and SSS can do and how much they are on the same page - and we also all know that Flacco and Perriman cannot possibly be anywhere near the same page yet - so, seeing Flacco over-/underthrow him or the timing slightly off may make it seem like there's a problem which actually isn't there.

What I'll be excited to watch is Flacco's rapport with Wallace and Ben Watson. Both are reported to be quite promising, so it should be fun watching it in real action.

And don't forget about Flacco and Chris Moore. IMO that will be interesting to watch.

Perriman has been rehabbing, so not like he has been sitting on the couch and doing nothing, now it's just getting out there, and getting in sync with Joe. He might see some action this week, since he did practice yesterday. Team is starting to shape up......Pitta looks like he could be a PUP candidate again, the way they make that finger sounds....If Elam is out for a month or so, bring in another CB not another Safety....

Perriman only went through a "light" practice yesterday, I am not sure about today but they did say that they are still going to ease him into it. Getting his timing with Flacco down is going to take some time.

I think Elam is done in Baltimore now. He may have been "coming on" but too little too late with this injury.IMO

Not sure why there's concern about the D when Suggs and Doom weren't out there. That changes everything. I'm ecstatic that we're actually forcing turnovers!

Moore looked legit and I think he'll be making some big plays for us this season; Butler too.

Perriman coming back probably hurts one of these guys. That's a shame both have looked decent so far and it would seem that with more reps, they would get only better. Some of those reps go away now.

The statement that "Johnson has looked better in practices"... and he definitely looked better in the games... Isn't that how you judge who makes the team? I would think that OVERALL... that's how you judge. While some make the statement that Mallett played more live games, and did so well last season, keep in mind our W/L record last year. JMO

People also need to keep in mind the success / lack of, that Johnson has had on his previous 7 teams. Oops. I mean 9 teams.

With the effort that Ray Rice is putting forward to come back.... if Ozzie, Biscotti, & Harbaugh dont bring him back I'll never look at this organization the same. People make mistakes, but the biggest mistake you make is not forgiving a man for what he did after he has apologized. @Ozzie and the crew, be a man and give Rice another shot. You owe him that, and he owes it to us.

Never gonna happen and it shouldn't.

The awkward thing with all the above posts is that Monroe had serious interest from at least five to six teams and we know for certain that the 49ers, Seahawks, and Giants wanted him.

If he truly was only about the money, he'd have signed with the Seahawks for a good amount to play LT.

Maybe it just wasn't the money that he wanted or thought he should get? What I don't understand is knocking a guy on injuries. We really have no idea if he was concussed or not. Maybe it was not about injuries at all and just the plain old fact that he was asking for a certain amount that no other team wanted to pay based on his recent participation in games the last 2 years.

10 reasons our WR corps also have potential to really rank much higher. Especially when you throw the TE's into the consideration.

    1. The addition of Perriman, Wallace and Chris Moore will give us a lot of speed. A luxury we simply didn't have last season.

    2. SSS... wants to go out with a bang. That is why he even returned.

    3. The development of our TE corps. The addition of Ben Watson.. the return of Pitta, and the development of Gilmore and Maxx leave our TE corps dangerous additions in the passing game and will take some pressure off of the WRs

    4. The running game should be improved with a year under Trestman and the return of Forsett and the addition of Dixon and Trent Richardson... we should be able to run the ball make us more unpredictable and taking a lot of pressure off of joe.

    5. We will be better at protecting Joe. Stanley over Hurst off of the edge makes us light years better.

    6. The emergence of slot WRs... (SSS in the slot, Camp healthy, Renyolds, Kamar)

    7. The development of Juice. and the other RBs who can catch the ball out of the backfield.

    8. Finally some familiarity with the OC...

    9. Joe will be back and healthy

    10. We have some very large Red zone targets now (Perriman, Moore, Watson, Gilmore, Maxx, etc.). Short yardage, redzone and chain movers - this is something we have not had much of in the past.

All of these factors should greatly contribute to a very dangerous WR corps. I know that some are indirectly related but the will all play a role in us having maybe the best WR corps we have ever had in BMORE!

I agree with most of your post except that In my opinion, Trent Richardson doesn't make the 52.

A HUGE LOT of "football stuff" around this time of the year is worth less than the virtual paper they were written on... That's when, year in - year out the complete football journalist crop fails to think ahead and stash away actually interesting and relevant stuff from the days when a lot of things happen - the season - to the leaner times - the summer...

Instead of all this early "Ranking" stuff I think I would actually rather read a thread from Mcjacket  explaining why I am wrong (and right) on a lot of topics! LOL

He's in a risk-free spot to be honest. He gets at least one year, maybe two years, of elite pay for his position under the franchise tag, and if he sticks to his promise, he can easily to go the open market and get top dollar from many teams next season or the year after if he maintains his performance.

Really actually quite a brilliant decision by Tucker to be honest.

The only way it's "Brilliant" is if he has a good year while playing under the tag. Yes he will get paid but if he has another down year, he will have a very hard time finding a team that wants to pay him as the top kicker in the league.

  11. I don't see Tucker signing a new deal now. Since the agent said what he said, the Ravens are in a spot here. They can in no way seem like they cave to his demands. They do that, then that opens up the whole can of worms for others when it is their turn. I think the Ravens may have signed him at the 11th hour before the agent spoke, but now I think he just cost his client some money and a good side of the Front Office. Everyone knows that we are 1 of the teams that you just do not give ultimatums. What was he thinking.

We should trade for Andy Dalton, he'd look the same in our system with our players because QB stats are individual stats not influenced whatsoever by surrounding circumstances like wins are.....

I hope that is a joke. Dalton is a choke artist in playoffs. He can't win the big game let alone put together a string of wins like Flacco did, which included a Super Bowl win. Dalton can boast about wins in regular season but that's about it, another Romo--they have won nothing.

  14. If we want to get back to winning games against rivals in the AFCN, we still have a few things to do. We have some money now and I guess we will wait to get some bargains on players that are going to be cut from around the league, but still have something to offer us. I do agree that we need to add depth to our offensive line and then we need to shore up our pass rush and back end. The defensive additions are a must in my opinion if we want to beat the Bengals and Steelers. It seems that the speedy receivers (Cincy) have beaten us on multiple occasions. We have gotten better back there, but I think there is some additions needed.

This whole time I was thinking that Ronnie Stanley was Osemele's replacement. Now I'm learning that there is no replacement for Osemele, these guys we have running this team really expect one of the backups we've had to step in and protect Flacco to the same caliber as Osemele????? Fire Coach Harbaugh ASAP

At least make some kind of sense if you are joining a forum. Most members are really knowledgeable of the Ravens Organization and how it works, so when you start typing the stuff you do, I am sure they do not find it amusing. Know of what you speak, before you do. It doesn't have to be right or wrong, it just has to make some sort of logical sense.
